I've noticed in a few forums here that some people are able to downgrade the HBoot. I was wondering if anyone is currently in development of doing that for the MyTouch 3G Slide. If so then I would be more then happy to lend a helping hand as a tester. Currently AlphaRev and unrevoked have developed a 'Revolutionary' AlphaRevX that does not support our device. I have received serveral replacement devices and they all come loaded with the 1.02 HBoot , I miss my S-Off. Thanks for any input in advance.

I was reading about this for the Thunderbolt from one of the guys on here, though I can't find it. Would this work on the CDMA desire also?

Been there, tried that, but Unrevoked still doesn't work with a S-On CDMA Desire on USCC with 2.2 on it and hboot 1.06. We have been waiting for unrevoked to find a fix, but I thought maybe this route may work since unrevoked will not yet.

I have looked all over XDA, as well as Google, but I've been unable to find and answer. From my research, I've found that with my HBOOT version - 1.06 - my phone is unrootable. What I haven't seen is anyone trying to downgrade the HBOOT to .9x. My phone was rooted with this version, but for some reason unrEVOked 3.32 didn't turn the security off. Now I'm stuck with the sh*tty stock HTC Sense rom. I have tried installing a Alltel (I have US Cellular) 2.1 recovery rom, to no avail. Is it possible to downgrade the HBOOT, with rooting? I understand that the unEVOked team is working on a fix, but I'm getting impatient. (I don't blame them, they are doing this out of the goodness of heart in their spare time. Anything they do - and have done - is greatly appreciated.) I want to install an aftermarket rom so I can underclock the CPU and save battery, as well as free up some space for apps.
im having the same issue with my new desire =[
No. You can't downgrade, you can't use another carrier (that's what CDMA is all about), you can't do anything. You have to wait for a fix.
Damn. i cant wait for Unrevoked to find a way...
/sigh
If only I lived in Europe, where the GSM carriers don't suck @ss. I've noticed the GSM Desire owners have a lot more activity then their CDMA cousins. I should have known better then to use an official HTC roms to upgrade. I made the same mistake with jailbreaking my iPod Touch, a few times.

i have just been reading this guide to rooting my htc desire (original) and im not sure on this;
***This method only works for users with hboot 0.93 and lower. Sorry 1.06 users, but until unrevoked updates, your stuck on stock htc***
my desire is running on hboot 0.93.0001, does this mean i cant use this method.
You can use this method with your Desire.
0.93 hboot refers to your version actually.
many thanks mate, may have a go later after the IO

Hey guys,
Sorry for the uneducated n00b question, but I am unfamiliar with HTC devices. I have a friend who managed to root his Evo 4g using revolutionary and just informed me that he accepted the most recent OTA update while still rooted, and no longer has root. I myself own the Epic 4g Touch and have never messed around with an Evo, so terms like s-off and bootloader don't make a lot of sense to me. If anybody can point me in the right direction on what i should do in order to restore my bud's root access, I would be ever so grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Joe
Not enough information given so far, however; if your friend still has the Revolutionary watermarked Hboot (bootloader), which he might, then he can follow the same advice given in this post.

First of all, please accept my apologies if this has been in some way answered before. I did a search as far back as early 2011 but could not find a satisfactory response hence my posting here.
I have a PVT1 Desire with HBOOT 0.80.0000, 5.14.05.17 Radio and S-ON. The phone is rooted with Amon-RA recovery and currently happily running JB. All is working well and I am conscious of the fact that should I decide to update the HBOOT and Radio to the latest version, I would have to start from scratch in terms of rooting etc. but as the phone is currently working just fine, I would appreciate people's opinion if there are any real benefits in upgrading.
Many thanks in advance.

I really don't know or understand what you're waiting for. Why not s-off? It's so simple using revolutionary.
If you have a s-off, "rooting" is just flashing superuser from recovery. Not a complicated process at all.

except his hboot is 0.80
revolutionary needs 0.93.001 or 1.02.0001 to work
Sent from my HTC Desire
Then his only option is to use unrevoked?

Just to clarify, I have no issues with upgrading and then rooting from scratch but, as my understanding is, that would involve going back to the official GB rom (to upgrade the HBOOT) and then doing all else, I was just wondering if it worth the hassle i.e. whether upgrading HBOOT and the Radio files brings any tangible benefits.
Many thanks for your responses.

alot of roms these days do recommend the latest radio and the advantage of s-off is that u can change hboots for more space. if u click the all things root guide in my sig i think ul get pretty much all the info u need there.
Sent from my HTC Desire
Many thanks for all the suggestions.
I have now updated to the latest Radio but still not sure about HBOOT and S-OFF. Since I am using JB which requires stock HBOOT, there is little advantage to S-OFF for me? Also, is there a quick way to upgrade just the HBOOT without having to install the offiicial HTC GB rom?
i wouldnt recommend upgrading RADIO ! had so many issues with different roms the last year after upgrading to the latest radio. Now I am back to the latest official radio that was delivered in Europe (5.11.05.27) and having no issues since then with ICS or any other roms.
I have the impression that some issues revolve from the newer 5.17.xx.xx radios being incompatible with some roms.

Why just not to install latest RUU - it automatically flashes new HBOOT and Radio.
About efforts - it's just allows to use modern ROMs.
May be a little improves quality, stability and battery time.
PS I haven't any issues with 5.17.05.27 radio
