Turn off the phone, press VOLDOWN and then POWER for about 5 sec and then drop the POWER button, you will see an android, press the bottom right part of the screen and a recovery menu will open, Wipe and try again.
If this doesn't work just try to flash a original SBF using RSDLite and using the same method as above but pressing VOLUP.
regards.
Like the guy above me said, take out the battery so your phone is off, put it back in, hold the power button and volume up at the same time and you should get a special boot menu, plug your phone into your computer while in the boot menu, follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853674 to flash a sbf, download any of those firmwares, preferablly 2.34 because you dont have to make a motoblur account, and hopefully u made a backup of your system before, so reroot your new flash, install the system recovery, and restore to your backup, and it should be just like it was before
ok i will try it
i can't see my device in RSD lite
there is a way to use update.zip with a boot file?
Your phone might not be identified correctly in bootloader. If it does not show up at all make sure you have the latest version of RSD Lite...4.9 I believe.
i have the latest version
i try to install frozenEclairDefy with scard:update.zip but i have this message:
Install from scard
..Finding update package
..Opening update package
..Verifying update package
..E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
how can i fix it?
Sounds like you are trying to do this using the stock recovery? Cannot be done this way.
is there another way to activate RSD lite 4.9 because it don't see my device??
What version of Windows are you running? If it's Windows 7 you may need to run the program as admin.
i succeed to fix my Defy with McGyver Dead Battery Fix ^^!! my battery was dead and I use bootloader (VOL UP Button) which is differente from recovery(VOL DOWN Button) what i used before.
Thank's rbeier1221
Nice. Glad that worked!

Hi, the reason for your problem with rsdlite (can't find the device) could be a missing USB-driver, which you can download from the original motorola-site.
I hope it helped
PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME
Last week I purchased Moto DEFY without blur in India. I tried to upgrade to Froyo 2.2 using the upgrade instruction in XDA forum.
1. Rooted using the defy_recovery-1218-0326-signed.apk tool.
2. Took Nandriod backup.
3. Updated the andriod version from 2.1 update 1 to 2.2 Froyo.
4. Updated the Firmware to BOOY_ONLY.SBF (defy_2.2_boot_only) file. using the RDS Lite 4.9 tool
After, finishing the upgrade, rebooted and started the phone.
Issue started with Camera, other apps, hence i tried to update the ROM to JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1_BLUR_P3_SIGN_A011_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf to fix the issue, but this still worsens the issue.
To over come this issue, i updated the firmware to JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_117-002_BLUR_SIGN_P003_A002_HWp3_Service1FF version.
After this, i am not able to see the main menu or any other menu in phone.
I have my Nandriod Backup in my SD card.
Even I tried to go to recovery mode, by using the key combination of VOLDOWN + POWER button and touching the search softkey, but no use as i do not get the option.
Could any body help in resolving this issue, and helping me to go back to Eclire 2.1 on 2.51.0 Firmware
Below is the firmware, i would like to go back.
System version: Moto_Version.2.51.0.MB525.Retail.en
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: EPU93ST2_U_03.0A.01
Build Version: JRDNEM_U3_2.51.0
I would recommend this tutorial :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853674
However the problem is that you need to find the spf file specific to you which like the tutorial states can be found here

Hope this reference helps you
Goodluck! because i had the same problem just fixed it an hour ago = ]
Quick quesiton you said you wanted to go from 2.51 to 2.1?
Yet your last update was to 3.2 which i believe is non-downgradable?
Shed some light on this and prehaps someone more intelligent on this forum will be able to help you out im still very much a noob lol`
All you have to do is flag 2.51 central european deblur and and then restore your android backup.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
thanks for the reply....
Will try it out...

Which verison of ROM you used to recover? Can you please elobrate the recovery method.
I could not get in to recovery mode, even on retarting the DEFY with VOL down + power on button, as i do not see the recovery option, instead, i see adriod with exclamation icon on the screen, and would allow anyhting else to do. SO i am not able to recover from my nandriod backup.
Help me please

if you're on 2.2. I recently found out that you have to hold down both the VOL up+down button to get to the recovery options. So boot with PWR+VOLDOWN and when you see the triangle android logo thing, hold down both of the vol buttons for like 1 sec
I was trying hard to go back to original 2.1 (2.51.0) as well. But now I'm totally loving the orange 2.2 rom.

Also, i have kept the sbf from this post...every time i screw my defy this lands me back safely....i then use recovery to recover my stock nandroid.......

I'm trying to return to Froyo by RDS Lite and original Sbf file but when the process reach 100% and say "PLEASE START PHONE MANUALY" the phone continue (more then 20 minutes) to have write ANDROID in cyano.
Tried three times to repeat the process but.... :-(
Help! (India) RSD Lite recognizes it, but no display
I have the indian motorola defy. I was actually trying to install cm7.
I ended up in a blank screen. I tried to load many sbfs to get my phone back, but I couldn't. It just shows the white led, and rsd lite recognizes it, and even shows "Result: Pass". I don't know what the problem is.
Please help me.
Was originally on 2.2.2 India SBF

did you wipe data/catch with stock recovory before flashing the sbf?
ok guys so i just picked up a brand new defy. got it home tried to run z4root and it just would not work. so i decided to just use super one click. did that no problem.
i then went ahead and used the 2nd init. still no issues. then when i was ready to flash i got stuck. cant load into bootloader or anything. im afraid the battery may be close to dead but im unsure.
currently all i can do is see the m logo. thats it. cant seem to get into recovery.
i also tried rsdlite but i cant sem to find the right files cause they all have the wrong extensions.
please help. i have no problem with buying someone a beer!!!
1. Boot the phone into stock recovery by holding power and volume down at the same time, press both volume buttons when it boots and go to factory reset/cache, run that.
2. Reboot into bootloader, by pressing power and volume up, plug into your PC.
3. Download the latest version of RSD Lite, and download a 2.2.1 SBF of your choice. You'll need to unzip the sbf file from the .gz using a .zip program, I use WinRAR.
4. Open RSD Lite, choose the sbf file, make sure the phone is connected in BOOTLOADER mode (step 2)
5. Run RSD Lite, wait until is says "PASS" In the dialogue box.
6. Enjoy!
ok so i got it back to the bootloader that you mention. however its flashing battery low cannot flash. or something like that. now what...
1st of all you if the blue led does not lit then you should try to go to stock recovery (start your phone using vol down + power, then press the lower right corner of the screen when the android appears with an exclamation mark - on Eclair- / press both Vol Up+ Vol Down -on Froyo -). Then you can start your phone into bootloader and flash the SBF again.
PS: older 2nd init versions get stuck on boot if the USB debugging is ON and the battery must be taken out to restart your phone.
EDIT: wow...how many replays have you received while I was typing mine Good luck and keep us posted!
If it says battery low, cannot flash, simply charge the battery for a bit, and then retry
how can i charge the battery? i have no lights blue or white...
I'm not 100% positive about this, but if the phone is off, and not bootable, I think plugging it in still charges it. Anyone know?
ok i just went to radioshack and bought a stand alone universal battery charger. im guessing if i give to 30-45 min that should be enough to try this process. any other tips/tricks in the meantime? im wondering where i went wrong. also what is the best file (link if possible) to use? lastly what will it take to get back to usa tmobile rom and i guess start over?
Since you are in the US use this sbf http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umt...1028.0R_JORDANTMO_P022_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz with RSD lite. Use this version of RSD lite 5.3.1 and Motorola drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=609901&d=1306603535.
ALWAYS go into recovery and wipe first before entering bootloader and flashing sbf
The sbf I linked above is the stock eclair 3.6.360 for the US
Good luck if you need help just ask we are all here to help! You can PM me as well

I might ruined my defy+
When I bought it, it was in German, i changed it to dutch and had android 2.3.6
Flashed it with the all-in-one Defy beginners guide
Had a working android version afterwards, only calling/sms/2g and 3g didn't work. Didn't try to fix it because i wanted to flash the latest cm7.2.
Don't know what i did after that (afterwards we went to carnaval, so i drank to much). I know I installed a uk rom 2.3.6 version and here it went wrong. It went into a bootloop. Got the M logo and spinning white thing around. Tried installing differnt roms, none worked. And now my phone doesnt do anything, wont start or go in to bootloader. RDS light find it but white led wont go on.

"Common Problems/Questions
Black Screens when booting up: (!) Tried to install a version of Android with a lower CG Version than the one currently on the phone.
Weird behavior after installing a Fixed SBF: Install a matching Nandroid backup with your SBF, and remember to clear Cache/Dalvik Cache using Recovery.
Installed full Gingerbread SBF and can’t go back to another rom: (!) aha! How to fix it:
Download this SBF and Flash it
Root your Phone
Download 2nd Init 1.4.2 and Install ClockworkMod Recovery
Download and install this Nandroid Backupwent wrong here, multiupload is gone so couldnt continue
Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
After wiping, turn off your phone
Turn it on and get immediately into Bootloader mode
Flash this Fixed SBF
Delete Data/Cache again and reboot"
Anyone got a answer for this? I am searching this forum for over 6 hours in the last days.
Mate, when you say it doesn't start... Nothing happens when you hold the power button? Not even the M logo (bootscreen) shows up?
Can you access stock recovery? When your phone is off, press and hold Volume UP button and power button. Does anything happen?
When you enter the bootloader, what does it say? Please write everything down.
I'm 99% sure that your phone isn't dead, you've just flashed some wrong stuff. First of all, CM7.2 is not compatible with 2.3.6. There is a CM7.2 DEFY+ version, but it works with 2.3.4 only. If you used a normal defy CM7.2, it's for Froyo only. Anyway, whatever version you used, it's not strange that it wasn't successful.
P.S I've done the same thing first time I've tried to update to some custom ROM
One more thing. After CM7.2 flashing resulted in a frozen bootscreen (M logo), please write down all the steps you did? It's kinda hard to figure out from that guide you've posted..!

Not really, buddy :-/
You should have answered my questions, that way I could have written you a step-by-step guide
What you should do:
0. Phone's off
1. Enter stock recovery
2. Wipe data and wipe cache
3. Turn off phone
4. Enter bootloader
5. Flash full stock 2.3.4 sbf - http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/1HLS00W4/
6. Your phone should boot up normally after the process is done
If you can not enter stock recovery, then just enter bootloader and flash the sbf. The thing is, those fixed sbf's don't have all the codegroups, so some stuff from CM7.2 has probably remained in your system. Full sbf should do a much better job. But, it would be great if you can enter stock recovery. That way the flashing must be successful.
Note, I haven't tried that 2.3.4 sbf! But it's the only one I could find. I need it too and I will test it tomorrow morning, so if you want, you can wait for me to test it first. (I need it cause my defy+ is on Froyo now, and Froyo and defy+ don't really like each other ) I have tested one 2.3.5 sbf, I can point it to it if you wish so. (It doesn't matter which android version it is, as they all have version 6 signed codegroups, so you can switch between them without worrying! Only some latest 2.3.6 ROM's are signed as version 7, but it's highly unlikely that you have flashed your phone with one such)
I Agree with niksy+, can't help, I have a Green Lens Defy, so all i have to say is good luck, and a step-by-step would have been nice
Thank you for the effort, my defy+ is braindead. When i connect it to my pc the white top led goes on. And that is it, nothing on RSD, wont boot, wont go in the bootloader
There's a trick for that i think i remeber it's:
Plug phone it with rsd ready (the phone should be dead with white led)
Pull battery out and press vol up + down
Put battery back in
It might not be exactly that but i can assure you i read somewhere what to do with your issue

That process is called "force bootloader method" and it can be done on any and every Motorola, as far as I know..! (I've done it on my previous E398, ROKR E1 and ROKR E8 phones (yeah, I've killed all my phones dozens of times )) and, yes, sometimes it does get you into the bootloader when the normal way doesn't!
So, as crakeron said:
1. Battery out
2. Wait couple of seconds (to make sure the phone goes completely out of power > completely off)
3. Start up RSDlite (v5.3.1 minimum!)
4. Connect your phone to the usb (yes, without the battery)
5. Now, you need to press and hold a combination of buttons and insert the battery WHILE holding the buttons pressed and keep them pressed for couple of seconds.
*I'm not sure what the combination of keys is it, but I would try:
a) Volume UP and Volume Down
b) Volume UP and Power Button
c) Volume Down and Power Button
d) Volume UP and Volume Down and Power Button (this one is the least likely, I think)
6. Your phone should show up in RSDlite and you can flash it then. The bootloader maybe won't show up on the phone screen, but if it shows up in RSDlite - it's all that you need!
This forcebootloader thing isn't quite easy and it may take couple of tries to hit the exact needed timing, so try all combinations a couple of times. Let us know if you pull this off!
i have the popcorn out for this one - fun thread! will the defy be rescued??? tune in next time, same bat board, same bat sub board!

If the UK 2.3.6 ROM you installed was this one then you will not be able to downgrade to any other 2.3.6 ROM (except I think this one), let alone 2.3.5, 2.3.4 or Froyo (it does say that in the thread you linked).
You should still be able to flash either of those 2.3.6 ROMs with RSD Lite. But no other ROM - until some more with CG 7 or above become available - and it's currently not rootable either. So no chance of CM7 or other such like goodies. At least you should be able to get a working phone that you can sell on eBay if you desperately don't want to be stuck with the T-Mobile 2.3.6 ROM.
Morals of the story:
1) Read before you flash
2) Keep a written record of what you did (I know, boring)
Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I asked you already on tweakers.net, but I'll ask the same questions here:
What's the status of your battery? (Full, empty, half-full?) What version of RSD-lite did you use? What version of drivers are installed on your computer? How many times did you try the different key combinations after pulling out battery, connecting to your computer? What did you see at each step?

Been away for a few days. Back and ready to repair, I appreciate all your help.
no sim and sd-card
win7 64-bit
Battery is Full
RSD Lite version 5.6
motorola 5.4.0 usb drivers 64-bit
Tried all combinations at least 10 times. First I disconnect usb -> take out bat -> make combination and count to ten -> put in bat -> holds for minimum of 10seconds -> click on "show device" on RSD -> Nothing show
Nothing ever shows.
You really should give us more... What happens when you try to power it on? I think you only get black so, does power+vol(+) give you something or do you get a white led when you plug it in the pc?
If yes, it should be recognizable. I don't think you can get into bootloader mode when power-on gives nothing. Maybe by putting the battery back while holding the volume(+) I think and the power button. (like stated earlier) But I thought the white led was enough.
If you don't get the white LED and you only get black screen, maybe try to borrow a battery from someone...
If you get the white LED but RSD doesn't find it: try a few ports, maybe other PC, ....
I also think a Win7 window should pop up first with something like: 'Motorola diag... device found' (or maybe something completely different)
Then I think the easiest = warranty. I'm from Belgium. Had to send it to a repair center in the Netherlands (for a totally different reason) and it took them a while to fix it (it needed to be send elsewhere, .. ).
Just tell them you tried to update your rom and it wend wrong. Anyway, it takes about a month I think...

Thank you for helping me, I just tried RSD Lite 5.7 and also nothing.
Sorry a bit late. You didn't lie
I should be recognizable. Especially with a full battery. If not, you might have had a bad install and they might have to replace the botherboard.
If you don't mind waiting a couple of days longer, bring it to the place you bought it. Then the delivery costs are free. But could take 1-2 weeks longer.
IF they do conclude it is your fault then you have to pay an amount of money to deliver it back or you can pay for repairing it (for motherboard could be 80-100 or more, actually don't know). Again when you went trough shop this takes a week or so. (motorola => shop => 3 days nothing => you => 3 days nothing => motorola).
They are not that picky at motorola except for water damage maybe (check for a red sticker below the battery. If it is still white => no prob)
Thank you all. I've sent my phone to the store where i bought it, on friday and the next friday i got it back. With a fresh stock rom.
Hi there,
I have a problem with my Sony Xperia Z1 Compact (D5503, KitKat 4.4.4, 14.4.A.0.157). I recently decided to install CyanogenMod 11 on my mobile phone (which has bootloader unlocked, is rooted and has the TWRP installed) and therefor followed a guide (I will provide all the links I used in the end). I made sure my phone is charged over 90% and started the process. I didn't skip any guide steps but unfortunately that bricked it so I can't start it at all.
I made a Nandroid backup previously so I would be able to get back to my current system but my problem is, that I can't get to the TWRP recovery. When I press the power button my phone makes a short vibration repeated about every second (doesn't blink). It blinks in red though when plugged into the power supply or the computer. My computer doesn't recognize it at all (my phone can't boot :/).
I tried following things already:
1) - holding the [power button] => vibrates repeatedly until released (described above already )
2) - holding the [power button] + [volume up] => no vibration, seems to have no effect
3) - holding the [power button] + [volume down] => same reaction as 1)
4) - holding the (tiny red button near the sim card slot thingy also called) ["the reset button"] (?) => same reaction as 2)
5) - going crazy and holding everything at the very same time [power button] + [volume down] + ["reset button"] ^.^ => same reaction as 1)
I hope somebody can help me. I'm lost at this point
I hope I'm in the right forum for this ^.^
Thank you in advance!
Jenny
I can provide additional information (but unfortunately the spam protection thingy doesn't let me post links yet ^.^):
- Tutorial I followed
- ROM I downloaded (found in the guide)
- Gapps I downloaded (found int he guide)
So nobody? :/
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

Ya, it definitely did! Thank you very much
After reading that thread you gave me, some questions appeared . I will ask them in the end ^.^
So the situation is the following now:
I can access my phone through the Flash Tool thingy and it even seems to flash. So now I can start it and it gets to the "Sony" screen, then it gets stuck. From here I can get to the flashmode though by holding [power button] + [volume up], then as soon as it turns black, I hold [volume down]. In the Flash Tool I flashed the 14.4.A.0.108 firmware but this process really confuzzled me...
In Flash Tool I can "Exclude" the "KERNEL" only, there are no other options (at least for that firmware I have here :/) => Don't I need things like "BOOT" and such too?
Also this firmware isn't a stock one . This one I used to get root access (I can't find a stock firmware (of which I think it should contain more than the "KERNEL" only? ))
Previously Flash Tool recognized my phone correctly, now it says this:
"20/023/2015 21:23:01 - INFO - Current device : Unknown: Feb 21 2014/16:15:25 - CB5A1Y6YT6 - Unknown: Feb 21 2014/16:15:25 - 1275-9486_14.4.A.0.108 - Unknown: Feb 21 2014/16:15:25" (The "Unknown" thingy is new and I don't really like it ^.^') => I think I need the stock rom thingy, don't I?
After reading that thread you linked me I'm confused about my battery... Should I charge it or make it die?
Mister, I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU! *______* x3333 *happy*
I could unbrick my phone and reinstall the stock rom thingy (I found one!). Thank you for helping me and kicking my brain into the right direction x3. You're great!
I still have my Nandroid thingy, so I just need to install that one <3 *closes the tab with all the new z3 Compacts she was thinking about to buy*
I'd really appreciate if myou could answer my questions though, if that's not too much :/ And if you're not yet tired of me, maybe you know a good ROM I could try? (I'm afraid of trying the cyagen 11 now v.v')
You're the best <3
Glad you sorted it.
If I were you I would relock your bootloader, restore DRM keys (you did back them up?), flash stock .108 firmware and re-root.

What does relocking the bootloader give you, sir?
I don't think I have read anything about DRM keys yet so I think I don't have them anymore ^.^
And ya, I flashed .108, rooted and flashed .157 again <3
I actually figured out how all that process works and I got really fast with it without using any guides anymore, everything works just fine! There's one exception though :/ I tried to install the Paranoid Android thingy just to see if I can mactually get it to work... I couldn't, I got the very same problem again after flashing it in the TWRP recovery thingy it didn't want to start anymore (repetitive vibrations when holding the [power button], no display). So I just backed up to my nandroid backup I made before.
I wish I could get any ROM to work, but it doesn't seem like it, I think I'm too blonde for that :/
But it makes me so happy my phone is working again ^__^
