Trouble finding my MSL - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't seem to find my MSL; whenever I type the connectbot command listed here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898628) it simply displays nothing. Is there another way to find it without calling sprint?
for reference, I'm running ACS Bamboozle

Nevermind, looks like it was case sensitive

Terminal command to switch 3g on and off?

While waiting for cyanogenmod and the toggle 2g app to land from the heavens, I had this idea. So is there a command to switch the 3g to 2g and backwards?
Using this command with locale and the terminal plug-in could be handy. I just don't have the linux knowledge, so that's why I'm asking here

Could it be as simple as echo-ing a value to something in /sys or /proc? I poked around for a minute in those dirs but didn't see anything obvious.
just use switcherpro widget great app and can turn on/off 3g
I thought it would be easy, since it's just probably one value to change somewhere, but as said I'm pretty much lost with this one
All of the widgets are just shortcuts to the settings. And that's exactly why I asked if anyone knows if this is possible, I don't like it that I have to click 5 times to switch the network (have to open the lockscreen also). I just want it to be automatic, so that it would switch to 2g at nights and when I'm at home where I use my computer to surf net. Also did you really think I wasn't aware of the widgets? If not, that wasn't that much of a contribution.
If it really is as easy as just echoing a value like so many other things are, you could do a listing of all files in the suspect dirs, then make the change manually, and then compare what files have changed. That might narrow down the search. There's probably some nifty grep or other linux command to make that easy, but I'm not real sharp at that.
I tried running logcat on the phone while switching network settings and while the log reflected my actions somewhat, it wasn't helpful in identifying what really happened.
TheMasterBaron just posted a non-signed version of the toggle 2g/3g app here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530&page=15 I tried to sign it with the "auto-sign" folder, but it won't install. (For the record, I have signed apps from update.zips succesfully before with it). Anybody know how to make it compatible, since he (TMB) says it's down to the signign http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8073786&postcount=149

[Q] Transitioning from Palm Pre to Evo 4G

Posted in androidcentral and went no where this seems to be a better site for this sort of thing. Transitioning from the Palm Pre Sprint to the Evo. Saw some Pre to / Evo4G threads but none have the info I need. Couple of questions hopefully someone can answer. I already rooted the EVO with the AC rom also nandroid with cm6 (the Pre basically comes already rooted just enter konami code and reboot). Hopefully these answers can help others later on too.
It allows to to make/end calls, send sms, open apps, reboot, change wallpaper, turn GPS on and off, get phone coordinates, turn leds/vibrator on. In short basically every function the phone does can be triggered remotely via ssh.
Nothing that will let you mess with people on command line if your phone is lost or stolen but lookout and prey are good apps for locating your phone.
OpenSSH server?
There is an app in the market but the lack of libraries, optware and physicial keyboard really make this a bad phone to use the command line in. Tunneling in or out is also a lost cause a vpn would be the best bet for this.
DDNS?
There is an app which is pretty nice but haven't found a good http server like the Pre so there is really no need for it.
Http server? My pre had a webserver with php. When I went to a page the Pre called its location and displayed a google maps page. I would prefer if theres no app so if I lose my phone theres nothing that can be easily uninstalled or turned off. Also good for hosting files locally.
Haven't found a replacement for this.
You can do Ubuntu chroot on the Evo but with no xserver it lags and is not a good experience.
Is there a third party app for homebrew mods like preware or cydia? Android market is more open than apple or palms so every app you can find there no alternative needed. Although sometimes you can find apks in threads for apps that are not in the market yet just put them in your sd card and browse with a file manager to install these.
Is there a way to download your sms database file like the iphone or pre ? Haven't found out where they are saved but plenty of apps to backup texts to either sd or gmail so no need to go searching for them.
I do have the script that installs optware on the Pre I tried doing the commands manually but failed. Haven't given up yet just havent had time since after midterms it will be on top of the list. Is there anyone with alot of experience with android that might also want to try this. It is a shell (.sh) script but I changed the extension to txt so I could upload it.

Help ~ efs / nv items

Ok... I'm ready to ask for help... I'm new enough to this that I'm willing to say please go easy on me.
So Im working with a rooted Epic 4G Touch. It's the EL29 root that seems highly recommended, nothing special, no special considerations there.
So moving along..
I accessed the efs with qpst to pull 0 and 1943. Locked, but visible.
Continued with the open sesame door instruction, rebooted, and tried to re-access the efs through the same manner (qpst efs explorer). Nothing. EFS explorer can't see, won't find it, nothing. Completely hidden. Including the open sesame door folder. It (the efs) hasn't been deleted. The phone still accesses all the normal information (Phone reports a normal imei, bluetooth mac, wireless mac, etc). But to save my life, I personally cannot access this directory to even see, let alone pull these two files for any type of modification. Nothing. I tried root file managers including Root Explorer as well in following other guides, nothing. DFS can access part of the hidden efs that I cant see with EFS explorer, (basically anything that wasn't locked before the directory became completely hidden - including the created open sesame door folder, [deleting it does not fix the issue], but nothing that was locked - such as the 0 and 1943 files I was seeking in the first place - is visible to DFS), however, DFS can access the information through NV Read range and the information is good, (that is, its accurate from the information I have for the device) (but its just the demo so it can't be edited directly, but it does tell me I suppose that the information is there and valid still?).
Anyway, so this is basically what's going on. I'm just trying to put this phone on metro, it seemed fairly straightforward.
I suppose the core questions are
1.) WHAT THE $&#@ happened to the efs, and is there something I can do to.. I guess normalize this? Any answers as to what, why, or recourse are humbly appreciated.
2.) Is there another route to accomplishing what I'm trying to do? I was contemplating reading the information from DFS (read range 0-1 and 1943-1944 which spit out item 0 and item 1943 respectively) saving these and editing them manually with a hex editor and then importing them back in the same way through DFS, since you can save them, but I don't know if the import is going to work, or even if that particular procedure will work. Is there another another method someone is willing to point out? I feel like Im drastically overcomplicating this...
I've been at this for awhile now... Any and all help is most graciously appreciated.
2.) Is there a simpler route to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Like shouldn't I be able to use CDMA workshop
Other questions that may be asked...
Do I have an efs backup... A proper backup? I'm going to say no. Not with all the content that I know is in there, though I have been able to pull what I can see (which is everything that dfs can see minus the locked items dfs won't show me -- which is more than what root explorer can see... if that makes any sense at all...)
You cannot try the open sesame door method on this phone. I think it is only used on htc phones. What you are trying to accomplish is not something that can be talked about due to it not being legal in some cases. The best way to do it is having the epic touch's esn added to metro then flash for data and mms.. There is a easy method to do it you just have to search

Some cases unless I'm mistaken being the operative phrase. If I've honestly broken a rule already I will withdraw completely with my apologies. But if not, I am very much perplexed. Yes, I did eventually figure out that the open sesame method was not appropriate for this device. The metroflash method you speak of is ending/ended. This is no longer an option in most cases.
Ok well for informational purposes ---
The aforementioned importing of the two nv ranges was successful. For the life of me I can't figure out why the efs was invisible for so long and through so much effort and despite many attempts to read it, but after the procedure, it is visible again.
Any explanations for educational purposes are welcome.
I don't think you've broken a rule so don't worry. It is sometimes hard to talk about it. Most people use the terms donor phone or esn repair. The metroflash is ending or ended it is still not known. I live here in Dallas and stores are still flashing phones to metro. It is still possible you just need to look around to find the resources available. I forgot to mention that i have my e4gt to metro. Just pm me and ill direct you to the places you need.

Chivas thank you ~ I was attempting to keep the post free from such terms. I did actually get the phone up on metro using the aforementioned process using the proposed method I had outlined, (I was actually surprised the demo was able to do this because NOTHING could read those items once they disappeared on me, and then as soon as I finally did successfully edit them everything, including EFS explorer could read them again. I was very confused as to what had happened and am still interest if anyone has a proposed explanation). I appreciate your consideration. If perhaps you can direct me to a decent mms guide you can confirm working I would appreciate it because I dont think I've been able to send and even receiving seems highly dodgy at best. I would ask you if you could recommend a prl as there seems to be some contention on this subject as well, but as you're in Dallas I would assume I need to play with them to find the best one. I'm working on the GPS as well, but believe I've found the correct method as outlined here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750366.
What would also be nice some additional information with regard to the following:
The device is connected to metro with a metro prl however, when in service going to about phone - status - mobile network shows "Sprint"
And similar with the drop down notification drawer (IM using the new senzation rom at time of writing fyi though unless I am attempting to flash), it also reads either "not in service" if searching for signal, or "Sprint". more information
Thank you again, all consideration is appreciated
@ChemicalM How did you get to open EFS and NV items folder?
Wow... we're goin back pretty far here but if I remember correctly, DFS was successfully able to read the two NV ranges and after new ones were successfully imported the folders simply appeared, I don't believe I ever truly figured out why, but by that point the work was done so I didn't necessarily need it anymore.

Last Ditch Help Request

Been trying to work with this Kindle Fire for a while now. I have the 1st Gen model and seem to have gotten somewhere although I don't know where.
I've searched numerous sites and looked at numerous threads on this site but still can't get any more progress.
I'm using a Mac which seems to make things a little more difficult in terms of finding a fix. I've tried BreakDroid and a few other ways but still can't get anything to come together.
When I turn it on I have the option of choosing the boot menu with the blue lettering. Doesn't matter what I choose, it's booting normal or it will reboot a few times until it boots normal.
When I'm working with terminal I can't get the device to be recognized.
I type "adb devices" and nothing shows up at all as being connected.
Pretty much close to just calling it quits so hoping someone can give me some help.
Thanks.

I`m not a Mac person so not familiar with working on this with your OS but you could mail it to me and I would be happy to fix it.
