Today I received my replacement Epic and they sent with a new battery and a new SDcard...
Should I keep my old one branded Samsung or the one that just came in... seems brand new to me but there is no brand on it...
Is there a difference due to age??
Keep both sdcards and battries, the package says not to return those. I now have two batteries and sdcards

It doesn't say anywhere not to return.. They just don't mention anything about it, so I just figure it's necessary... confused now
you only need to return the phone. the sd card, battery and even the battery cover are yours to keep.

Now, should I store one of the batteries to use in the future or does it go bad? Do I need to use both of them regularly to keep them in good health?

I keep both charged when I can, and use the new one primarily. But if it dies when I'm not home, I've got my second battery with me to last me till I get home.

I have the Samsung Epic 4G for Sprint. I've had it for a month and a half, maybe 2 months now? Lets say I run into a problem or something one of these days and my phones LEGIT bricks. No download, recovery, charging, anything. I remember with T-Mobile and HTC when I had my G1, I had a one-year warranty. one time my phone bricked and they replaced it for me free of charge. Do I have that with Sprint and Samsung for my Epic 4G? Just want to make sure. Thanks.
as long as you have insurence you should have no problem i am going on my 4th phone.

also you can go online to samsung.com and register there i did will all of my phones, tv and mp3 player and the spare battery charger sorry about the first post of mine being way off ur topic well i guess not way off. but still not the answer you wanted. after it is register you can submit a repair for the phone.
I may be wrong here but I believe you could add TEP and once it has been 30 days then you would be able to get your phone replaced if you haven't already reported your problem to Sprint. I think TEP has to be on your plan for 30 days before they will let you use it. Its not like you are just trying to get a different phone because yours won't allow 1.4 overclocking. It sounds like you are having legitimate issues....so don't flame me Sprint employees about working the system

My Evo has been having issues with text messages and all sorts of things. I am quite tired of it all and I am considering taking it in for maintenance. Back in the day I had an HTC Touch Pro (Raphael), one of the most buggy phones ever released, and I had to take it back twice. The second time, Sprint told me I could trade it for any phone that my plan accepted. I traded up to a Touch Pro2 (Rhodium) which was probably my favorite phone ever. After a year and a half with that phone, I bought an EVO on an upgrade just 3 days before the 3D was announced to the public (my life sucks lol). I still used the EVO when it arrived even though I had 30 days to return it. However I am having multiple issues with the EVO Running out of space for no reason and it not loading simple Apps or even making calls sometimes. I've tried rooting it and using different ROMs but it seems to be an internal issue of some kind. This phone is in amazing condition, Otterbox and Zagg Skins have been on it since unboxing and it has been dropped in the Otterbox maybe one time. If I take it in, what should/can I switch to? I'd love a new EVO 3D lol but I would take an EvoShift if I had to so I could have the battery life and the keyboard as well as Sense 2.1. I am just wondering if anyone else has run into my issue and would be willing to share what their best option ended up being. Thanks to all who reply with helpful input.
I am also curious about this. I absolutely loved this phone but a few issues have me wanting to throw this thing into a wall. I have been having reception issues lately (getting terrible/no signal in an area i know i have good coverage), and a bug that popped up randomly a few months ago that causes extremely high display usage on any sense rom (causing horrible battery life), it does not happen with aosp and I'm not switching to aosp because it has too many bugs.
Basically, i want to know if i take my phone in for an insurance claim (ill crack the screen or something), if i can get a nexus s 4g. I don't see why not since they stopped making the evo and may not even have any in stock, and the nexus is of the same value if not cheaper. Can anyone chime in on this?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I am with you. The Nexus S looks way better to me right now. Or even the Shift. It got the update to Sense 2.1. It seems as though we have been left behind with our Evo's. I just unrooted and I am going to go to the store and see what they'll offer me as a trade. As far as them being out of stock, I highly doubt it. Just because they've stopped production doesn't mean they don't have a warehouse full of refurbished EVO's somewhere. I am ready to abandon this device and move on to something more powerful.
The nexus s 4G has no notification light or micro SD slot. Keep that in mind.

True... What about the Shift? I know there is no front camera but I don't use the one on my Evo anyway.
I say go with the Zack Morris Shoe Phone lol
I take it nobody likes the Photon?
lol nice. The Photon is alright, but I doubt Sprint would let me exchange my EVO for the Photon on a TEP claim.

Read the OP. I am rooted. Let me clear things up.. I am taking my Evo in to have it replaced because it is "faulty." In the past Sprint has let me exchange my phone (whatever it was) for one that was of equal or lesser value. I am wondering what my best choice would be. I am locked in contract until 2013 so buying a new phone is just about out of the question. I am thinking of trading my Evo for either a Nexus S or an EvoShift. I'd like to exchange it for a newer phone if I can.
Me and the Wife just upgraded to Galaxy S3's we both had Incredibles. Are the old phones worth anything? They are both rooted and I cleaned, wiped and installed the Touch of Blue V2.2 rom to them. I have pulled the microsd cards out of them and used them in the S3s.

Check e-bay. Probably @$50-80. Maybe less w/no sd.

Just like rushead said, they usually bring $80-100 on ebay, just make sure you present them well and give plenty of information. Also you may want to give the buyer the option for you to unroot for them or just do it before you list them. A lot of times rooted phones bring less because a majority of people don't root. Their loss
I looked on Ebay and then Craigslist to get an idea of value. I talked to a local company that said they would give me a minimum of $60 per phone and more depending on what accessories I had. I think I will do that no headaches. The guy was cool with the fact that were rooted. Now if someone or Verizon would unlock the S3 bootloader I can root them. I know I can run roms on it but I am a old fart and tend to take the path of least resistence.
Wow, $60-80 ain't all that bad. I thought they were basically free if you re-sign your contract.

I think these are for people that lose or break their phones and don't have insurance and still have some time on their contracts.
They are a good way to save on your battery on your new phone at home or anywhere wifi is available. Or as a music player. Might be worth saving one of them. They are a great device even today.

Think we will be getting.an update soon for.the multitasking ability like the international version?:fingers-crossed:
5 Main Issues with Sprint's SGN2
I posted this up on Sprint's Forum to show that they are handicapping their new phone; thought I would post here as well.
No multiwindow capability
No Apps to SD capability
No simultaneous voice and data capability
No wireless charging capability
No GSM sim card swapability
I'll probably still get the SGN2 and will be happier when an update comes later to provide for the multiwindow capability because it is one of the things I really wanted this phone for; besides the huge screen and quad core processor.
And not being able to move apps to the sd card is a step backwards when we are moving forward with Android. What is up with that? This could become a problem for me as I usually like to load up my cell with apps.
Okay, we also lost the ability to talk on the phone while also using an app on the phone. From what I understand, it is becuase of hardware configuration wouldn't allow this.
Then the wireless charging would have been nice, but Sprint removed the contacts so we can't purchase the replacement back cover that would have given us wireless charging.
Finally, while I don't plan on traveling to other countries in the near future, you never really know, so I would have liked to have a true world phone where I can utilize SIM cards from other countries for cheaper price than what Sprint charges for international roaming. As it is, Sprint permanently hardwired their own sim into the phone. Still it does have GSM capability = $$$$
Started out really excited about the Note 2, just not as excited now. Still need to upgrade from my Epic and this seems the best choice.
You read my mind...in all points. Thank you.

yeah I'm really hoping we can at least get the multitasking update which was one of the main resins fir me purchasing this bad boy...saying a prayer!
Are these not the wireless charging contacts?
Those should be the NFC contacts.
i'm hoping jellybomb ports it from the other roms. very jealous the other versions have it already...
I'm sure (or atleast hope) that we will get in a update. I was excited about the feature as many others are, but if not, I'm sure devs will later port (as another member said) it over.
If I'm not mistaken, the other variants did not come out the box with the feature and received in a update some weeks later? I don't see why this would not apply to us as well. Not surprised one bit ours didn't come out the box with the feature. The international version came out, got the update before our variant even came out. I would suspect that our devices were already in route (being too late) to apply that feature?
Either way, both my wife and I are extremely happy with the device. We knew/know what could happen going into purchasing the device.
Just my first thoughts on it.

Perhaps you've not been following the post. The Sprint version is missing the phone-side internal contacts for any wireless induction charging, so the phone, no matter what mod, cannot do it.
There *are* directions on how to mod the international and I believe some of the other US carried models to use the Palm Pre touchstone charger induction coils and bases, however, sprint fully removed this, and the SPH-L900 doesn't include these pins.

Wrong. The contacts are on the board. Get a replacement rear housing and back plate, problem solved.

If you really want inductive phone charging it wouldn't matter if there were contacts (hidden or not). Other phones that never had it as an option have been modded to work with inductive charging.

BTW, there is a thread showing the internals of the Sprint phone and it looks like the inductive charging leads are just under the back plastic piece. They just need to be tested with a multimeter when the battery is in place to confirm.

I knew about the last three but not the first two nor wallet or screen record. WTF? I don't understand the reasoning behind removing functionality that are determining factors to have this phone in the first place. Split screen was a huge selling point for me. Bad enough I gave up my keyboard. On screen typing just sucks, even if I can do it efficiently. Split screen was supposed to be a great way to reference from one while typing into another.
Sprint hasn't done one thing that is customer friendly ever since the iphone came to town. Policies and perks all tightened and done away with. Now phones are all gimped out with embedded batteries, embedded gsm sims and removed features. Did they take a Verizon 101 class last year?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Disappointed for sure. Especially with the no voice and data, wtf... Cant even take a picture while on a phone call. Thats just ridiculous.
Called sprint seeing what they coukd do for me since I had an evo3d with failing digitizer and not eligible for an upgrade until May 1st...
They offered me the buy up program for 65 $ to move my upgrade date to that day. Which was November 1st. Had to sell them my 3d back (which was becoming unusable with phantom screen touches) and got 53 $ for it. Went ahead and handed over my MINT OG evo as well for 38 $ ...
First night was rough getting used to size and touchwiz. But after a full day yesterday its becoming easier to accept. And now I find out all this **** is missing that originally drew me to this in the first place.
Now im really leaning towards taking it back for the sg3. Being able to do other things while on the phone such as even just take a pic is important, or sending a text while on phone. Or a number of the listed things missinf in our sprint version for that matter.
can anyone inform me about the gs3 being able to do voice + data?

Basically I have eagle vision and I took a super close look at the 32GB they gave me and there's no scratches, marks, sign of any wear whatsoever. Just a missing screw.
Also I noticed a HUGE change in battery usage from the 16GB to 32GB. I also have a 32GB SD Card and after I took out the memory card, it felt like it used less battery but it will never be as good as my 16GB was.
16GB used like 3%-5% overnight with no use and now this 32GB uses like 10-15% overnight and the battery is fresh aswell.
Also I know a bit about battery cycles and the best time to charge (e.g not lower than 50% and not more than 97%)
So yeah I kinda wish I had better battery life now

From my friends I would say atleast 60% of them have claimed insurance on their phones.
It's very tempting to do and it's also frighteningly easy to make a successful claim by lying. Infact I can recall a friend who managed to claim on the same phone with 2 different insurance companies and got 2 phones lol.
I DO NOT CONDONE this though.
