Hi, I've been having issues with my 3G speeds since the 4.24 update.
I'm on the stock rooted rom ...

I'm new to Sprint and just thought that 3G was that slow, but I cannot get speedtest to even complete 60% of the time.
Things to check if you haven't.
Update radios to latest versions (Can be found in development section)
Be sure you updated your PROFILE and/or PRL (though I dont think PRL will fix anything unless you are roaming).
How long has this been going on? Is it possible that Sprint is having network difficulties?
network
Ur internet shouldn't be that slow,,,,, but what area do u live in ,,, please leave a zip and the reason is that sprint is changing networks up a putting I den,3g,4g in one cell site and it will give a range of signal from 800mhz to 4.3ghz from one sit and they have 80,000
Cell sites
yestrue do check the updates or do a ##72786#,,,,, enter msl,,,,tap menu,,,,,select reset
this is not a factory reset. It is a scrtn ( service code return to new) and it erases the programming and does the hands free
I'm on 680 PRL. and everything is up to date on the phone according to all the update buttons(firmware/prl/htc)
this is a brand new phone and I have tested it in 5 different locations around northwest Houston and it is always crawling. when I switch 4G on I'm good to go, but 3G takes forever to get google.com to load even on full bars.

exactly as reddragon said, everything is the latest as far as rom, radios, prl, even the latest hboot, which i know has nothing to do with it, but as soon as everything is updated i try to keep up with it.
the 4g is awesome when i'm on the 11th floor in midtown manhattan full blast i get close to fiber optic speed when i tether... but maybe it's just the area i work in but it has severely diminished since i got the phone. ongoing i want to say it's been about 3 weeks now that my 3G has been this bad.
I will try that reset and see if it gets better and post the results. Thanks for the contributions!
Ok, so here's the update:
I did ##72786#
Entered MSL
Pressed Menu
Reset...
and it went to .10Mbps d/l and .02Mbps u/l
tried retesting my speed when I got home and got 0.03 d/l and 0.02 u/l with a 990ms ping.
When I had did the 3G boost hack before the update, things were fine, it wasn't all that great but it was at least the speed of dial up.

I currently cant connect to 4g at my house, sprint and clear show im in a good spot for 4g but I cant seem to connect. About 3 weeks ago when I got the phone I wasn't in a covered area but it appears they just added a new tower and now I am. I didn't try to connect again before I flashed a new ROM however. Ive also tried standing outside on my deck to no avail.
Specs are attached as well as my coverage map. If we can get this fixed I'll paypal you a beer.

The coverage map for my city is completely wrong. Using Sensorly to map for a couple weeks showed what I have already observed, massive holes in the coverage here despite Sprint showing solid coverage.
That doesn't mean that's the case where you are at. Find someone else who gets 4g and try yours in the same area.
Agreed, I believe that most coverage maps are for the most part utter BS. Try going back to stock to rule out rom issues. Were you ever able to connect to 4g in a known 4g area?

if you've installed the latest OTA and wimax and you have your phone rooted, this might be the problem.

we know the upgrade plans, but how long will it take for your area is the question.
If it's this bad half way through next year I'll be very unhappy.
Sent from my Galaxy S2 Epic 4g Touch.
I'm sure I'll reap the benefits of this (if it happens...) very quickly, as I live in one of the first areas to get anything from any carrier.
....and that also means I'll be able to get decent home internet speeds, finally(via tether).
Well hurry up and fix the Oxnard Ca sites, evenings and weekends my download speeds are less then 70kbps. From 3am to 9am during the week I can get 1.5 Mbps down.
Thank god for my ipad sim in a mifi.

How do I do this? Also what is the difference in speed? I'm getting like 40 something k during some parts of the day and it's very frustrating.

You should be able to get over 1mbps if Verizon has 3G in your area
Thanks. Where don't they have 3g network? lol.
Anybody ever do any side by side speed tests with other devices? I ran a test with three E4GTs, an EVO 4G and an EVO 3D. Both EVO's cleared over a meg d/l while all three E4GTs (including mine) barely broke 200 kb/s. Sprint needs to get their network up to snuff no doubt but I think there is also something going on with the hardware/firmware of our phones too. I spent an hour on the phone with Sprint and Samsung today about it (of course they weren't able to help and played dumb).
For a while I was pulling my hair out, and updating prls, having Sprint reset my account and reprovisioning my phones.
E4GT, Optima S, Evo 4G and hacked Droid Incredible all scored the same pathetic sub 100Kbs in my area. I ran again at 5am and all of them managed above 1Mbps. Just over loaded towers in my area. Its worse since the Iphone.
I guess Anaheim Hills, CA is unaffected. My speeds have been great.
The Evo3d received a network service update a couple days ago and a lot of people who received it said they are getting better 3g speeds all of a sudden. Just check the second link I posted up on this thread. So comparing an Evo3d to anything might not be fair at the moment. All depending on your area that is. I received a network service update on my girl's Evo3d and it still gets the same 3g speeds as my ET4g. Just average speeds in my area. Here's the link explaining network changes in the Bay area.

Maybe they gave in and just gave it the ENG radio. When I had my E3D and I flashed the leaked eng radio (I forget the version number) my speeds were anywhere from 30-60% faster. It might have affected battery life, but, who knows...battery life sucked on that thing regardless.
I always found it strange that every radio update just seemed to make it go slower and slower...I think Sprint was up to something...
So the first LTE Tower in Louisiana (New Orleans Metro Area) went active a couple days ago. My coworker with an iPhone5 drove past it yesterday morning and his phone switched from 3G to LTE almost immediately when he came within range of it. So on my way in, I took the same route yet my Samsung SIII did not make the switch at all. On my way home, I decided to go down the service road that the tower is located on and park right next to the tower. It literally took 5 minutes of sitting there before my phone finally switched from saying 3G to 4G. So I ran a few speed tests and it was blazing fast (see screen cap below).
The route to get back to the interstate from the service road would take me back out of range of the tower and then back into range when I got back on the interstate. My phone switched back to 3G immediately upon getting out of range but once back on the interstate and back in range, again it never switched back into 4G. I pulled over on the shoulder almost directly across the interstate from the tower and sat there for 3-4 minutes before it finally switched to 4G.
I'm just wondering if this is typical of the Galaxy S3's or if I'm having an issue? I find it odd that my coworker's iPhone switches almost immediately.
I'm rooted and running PhantomHacker's Blazer Rom version 2.0. No other mods done to the phone. And yes, I ensured that I have the "Preferred Network Mode" in Mobile Network Settings set to LTE/CDMA.

Also, here's a screencap of the area coverage for the new tower. The red dot in the darkest purple shaded area is where the Tower is located and the yellow dot across the interstate is where I parked on the shoulder after I left from the tower.
Not sure about that rom. But on stock I think the lte scan time is 5 minutes.
By comparison the evo lte was 30 and I think HTC finally tweaked that to 5 minutes as well with their most recent update.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Just coincidence. The S3 on Sprint currently has a 30 minute LTE scan timer (unless custom ROMs override this.) So when you went into a 4G area, 4G LTE was scanned approx. 4 minutes after. If you want to force an LTE signal, you can always cycle airplane mode.
Thanks for contributing it to Sensorly.
EDIT: Well, I heard the S3 had a 30 minute scan timer, maybe Sprint's LJ7 update reduced it to 5 minutes.
I am using 3g data connection on my Xperia Play from the past 2 months, i used to get a downloading speed around 700KBps. But since yesterday my 3G data speed has gone extremely low in the range of 20-50KBps(sometimes stuck at 0KBps).
At 1st i thought it is my network problem, but when i asked my one friend, who lives nearby me and uses the same 3G network, he said that the speed is just fine, no changes in speed, so i restarted my phone removed and reinserted my sim card. changed from 3G to 2G back to 3G again, but still the same speed.
Now when i put my sim card in my older phone, samsung galaxy 3, it is giving me back my 3g speed and i get very good download speeds.
but upon reinserting the sim in Xperia Play i again get low speed as stated earlier,
What has gone wrong? i have installed tweaks from this thread , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1456777 a very long time ago.
i have rooted and supercharged my Xperia play and i am using stock 2.3.4 rom.
Might not help but what Network are you on? ;p
i am using India network,
also i removed the tweaks by editing build.prop, installed and applied 3g speed optimizer, still no effect.
Ask your provider. This is a network problem not the device itself.

ok i will try it.
but when i use my sim in my samsung galaxy 3 i get full speed, but the same sim gives me **** speed in my Play and this started happening from yesterday, earlier my speed was very good.
Could it be your network mode is on: GSM only?
Instead of UMTS > GSM?
(Not sure if they even use the GSM network in India, it is just an idea.)
(Iam pretty sure having it on GSM only will give you very bad speeds on 3G, atleast it did for me.)
Kind regards, Stefan.
Could have been throttled. Not sure if that's a problem with your carrier but I used to run into it all the time on mine
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
well after 10hrs of network blackout i got my 3g speed back, that too full throttle.
btw is 700KBps the max speed we can get on Xplay or is more achievable???

Your speed depends on where you live, carrier coverage map, towers, obstruction inside of buildings such as cement walls. Etc numerous things becomes a factor towards your speed.
I got my S6 Edge about a week and a half ago. Right away I noticed ABYSMAL LTE speeds. Like, less than 500k. After tinkering around a bit, I finally decided to try a hard/factory reset. That *seemed* to have alleviated the issue, but only for a few days. Now Im back down to terrible speeds. At my house I took my wife's S5 and my phone side by side, made sure both phones were using the same server (using Ookla's speedtest app), and ran 5 tests. Every single one her phone got 4-6Mbs, mine got <100k, in some cases .02Mbs. Here at work, with every phone Ive had (3 I think) Ive consistently gotten 8-20Mbs downloads, depending on the day. Today, .23/.18/.28/.09. This is with full bars and LTE. Uploads are great...5-8Mbs.
Phone is stock, not rooted, 5.0.2.
Any ideas?

They arent. Another TMo phone is getting 8-15 here. Its the phone. And network issues in 3 different areas for 10 days is unlikely.

I know what your going through. My best advise is do a clean restore and if that doesn't help then wait for the new update as it updates the modem as well. I have complain about this before.

Theres a guy in the forums who got the update and provided screen shots. There you can see the base being updated. I'm trying to get my hands on 5.1.1. Been trying around to poke and see if I can get the OTA on a clean device and dump it. Will provide update tomorrow. I have 3 T-Mobile S6 Edge devices. So one hopefully can get it.
