Radio issue? VERY slow network speeds - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

I got my S6 Edge about a week and a half ago. Right away I noticed ABYSMAL LTE speeds. Like, less than 500k. After tinkering around a bit, I finally decided to try a hard/factory reset. That *seemed* to have alleviated the issue, but only for a few days. Now Im back down to terrible speeds. At my house I took my wife's S5 and my phone side by side, made sure both phones were using the same server (using Ookla's speedtest app), and ran 5 tests. Every single one her phone got 4-6Mbs, mine got <100k, in some cases .02Mbs. Here at work, with every phone Ive had (3 I think) Ive consistently gotten 8-20Mbs downloads, depending on the day. Today, .23/.18/.28/.09. This is with full bars and LTE. Uploads are great...5-8Mbs.
Phone is stock, not rooted, 5.0.2.
Any ideas?

My speeds are great, they could be having network issues in your area.

They arent. Another TMo phone is getting 8-15 here. Its the phone. And network issues in 3 different areas for 10 days is unlikely.

I know what your going through. My best advise is do a clean restore and if that doesn't help then wait for the new update as it updates the modem as well. I have complain about this before.

Theres a guy in the forums who got the update and provided screen shots. There you can see the base being updated. I'm trying to get my hands on 5.1.1. Been trying around to poke and see if I can get the OTA on a clean device and dump it. Will provide update tomorrow. I have 3 T-Mobile S6 Edge devices. So one hopefully can get it.

3g speeds super low.

I've updated my PRL and profile several times. My old phone was slow too. Could something be wrong with my account?

It could be your area. Try testing in different locations. If it's still slow, then it may be your account.
Sometimes if you use a lot of data, there is some evidence to suggest sprint may throttle you.
The other thing could be your phone. If you have a lot of processes going, even ones that don't use data, it can still affect the phones ability to work properly.
I would try ruling those out and then call Sprint.

Yeah my wifes phone gets about 500k compared to my 50 ish. 4g works good tho..

There is a thread for this already, a lot of people are having this same problem, including me. It started around November, when before, I would constantly get at least 1500kbps down and up, as both my home and work are less than a block from a tower.
After one day for some reason, I can NEVER get anything above 100kpbs, and it usually doesnt work at all. I have done everything, and sprint, stupidly, thinks that its a hardware problem every time, and since November, they have given me 5 brand new evo's. ALL have the exact same problem. I'm no expert, but 5 brand new phones dont all have the same problem. I have called CS MANY MANY times, and they refuse to check their end, saying every time that "our network is fine".
Whats weird, every friend I have on sprint, their phones are fine, even 3 year old phones. Whats even weirder, my friend with an evo, and the evo's in the sprint store all are fine. But with this thread on here, and a long thread on AF, there seems to be an isolated issue with a lot of people.

Well you can count me in as an isolated issue. My 3G has been fine for like 2 years now, and all of the sudden, I'd say the past month or more, total crap. It's taking me about 5 minutes or more to download a 2mb app update on the market. 4G is still good. I really wish I knew what was going on. I do the same Profile and PRL updates like the OP daily.
Well its definitely not my 3g being "slow". I am just not connecting to it. Qik errors and says I am not connected to 3g. My data status says 1x RTT for my connection. I need to call sprint.

I'm new to Sprint and just thought that 3G was that slow, but I cannot get speedtest to even complete 60% of the time.
Things to check if you haven't.
Update radios to latest versions (Can be found in development section)
Be sure you updated your PROFILE and/or PRL (though I dont think PRL will fix anything unless you are roaming).
How long has this been going on? Is it possible that Sprint is having network difficulties?
network
Ur internet shouldn't be that slow,,,,, but what area do u live in ,,, please leave a zip and the reason is that sprint is changing networks up a putting I den,3g,4g in one cell site and it will give a range of signal from 800mhz to 4.3ghz from one sit and they have 80,000
Cell sites
yestrue do check the updates or do a ##72786#,,,,, enter msl,,,,tap menu,,,,,select reset
this is not a factory reset. It is a scrtn ( service code return to new) and it erases the programming and does the hands free
I'm on 680 PRL. and everything is up to date on the phone according to all the update buttons(firmware/prl/htc)
this is a brand new phone and I have tested it in 5 different locations around northwest Houston and it is always crawling. when I switch 4G on I'm good to go, but 3G takes forever to get google.com to load even on full bars.

exactly as reddragon said, everything is the latest as far as rom, radios, prl, even the latest hboot, which i know has nothing to do with it, but as soon as everything is updated i try to keep up with it.
the 4g is awesome when i'm on the 11th floor in midtown manhattan full blast i get close to fiber optic speed when i tether... but maybe it's just the area i work in but it has severely diminished since i got the phone. ongoing i want to say it's been about 3 weeks now that my 3G has been this bad.
I will try that reset and see if it gets better and post the results. Thanks for the contributions!
Ok, so here's the update:
I did ##72786#
Entered MSL
Pressed Menu
Reset...
and it went to .10Mbps d/l and .02Mbps u/l
tried retesting my speed when I got home and got 0.03 d/l and 0.02 u/l with a 990ms ping.
When I had did the 3G boost hack before the update, things were fine, it wasn't all that great but it was at least the speed of dial up.

Got my first LOS today. I've had the phone for about a month. Yesterday i rooted using the autoroot method so i didn't mess with the Kernel or anything so i'm not sure if it's coincidence or what. Just letting you guys know.

I've had my phone for about a month and a half or so... I just got my first "official" LOS (the little "no" sign) on Thursday last week. I rooted with the Autoroot about 2 weeks ago so I don't think there is any connection.
I've had "ghost" LOS a few times, though, where the phone wouldn't send or receive text or make a call. I still showed "bars" however...
Now that I've had an LOS, I think I'll try a ROM or two while wating for ICS or CM7/9.

For the record, I had a LOS two days ago, haven't had one since. Im also drinking a Monster Rehab, good stuff man.
had tons of LoS when i was rooted(for about a month) unrooted yesterday and have had full bars ever since then, may on drop 1 bar every now and then but besides that i've had no problems
Had my second one today. Trying send a message it went from 3g with full bars, to no 3g, to the bars going down slowly, to the no symbol. Had to reboot, and it seemed to happen after uploading 20 pics to Facebook.

great...another los thread
This phone has some great hardware but I've experienced LOS even before my phone was rooted. It happens about once per week for me, on average.
Just got my first I after I rooted. Sucks balls.

I rooted using the non-ODIN method as soon as I got home from Sprint with my Epic Touch. Stock kernel, stock ROM, I just wanted to be able to run Adfree and a couple other root only apps.
I've only had one LOS, that was yesterday, about a week after getting my phone.
What I noticed about my LOS was that I was in my basement, I had NO bars then all the sudden I lost signal because it legitimately wasn't there. My HTC EVO 4G does this in the basement from time to time too and couldn't roam either.
Anyway, I went upstairs and left to run to the store but the phone never got signal back until I did a full reboot as where my EVO would/does.
No big deal. Nothing that has warranted me installing viperboys LoS mod yet or anything.
So far this phones been pretty trouble free.
This thread is fun, it's like a special ed Twitter, only much much slower.

[q] verizon 4g lte drops connection

I have a nexus on verizon and occasionally drops my mobile connection (voice and data) when I have 4g enabled. Everything works and stays up when I only have it set for 3g. I'm using the latest radio and bootloader with BB jellybean.
Has anybody had this issue before and was able to fix it with a software update or does it usually end up with having to exchange the phone? I'm really hesitant on swapping phones because everything else works great except for this issue. I was wondering if I could fix it with re-flashing everything.

I have same problem. I purchased my phone from eBay a couple days ago and I installed BB JellyBean after activated it. I didn't really care about 4g at the time. But, now with JellyBean, I can't use 4g (full-coverage) because it drops 4g/voice within a couple of seconds and I do not have any connection. However, with 3g only, everything works great.
I don't know if I purchased faulty device or not. But, everything works fine except 4g. I read many complaints about 4g connection on Nexus. so, I may just deal with it because I can live with JellyBean and 3g data with unlimited plan.
does it happen on ICS? JB hasnt been officially released for the vzw nexus.
return to stock and see if it happens.

I'm going thru something similar...I think the radios on the vzw gnex are not the best. I've been tweeting @vzwsupport ..they told me to remove sim card wait for 30 secs put back in and check but connection still sucks. Granted, I just want 3g...no 4g in my area. Just be hearing back from them in a few.

Incredibly slow 3G data; is Sprint throttling me?

So, for the majority of last month I recall having absolute **** speeds on 3G ranging from 20 to 70 Kbps occasionally reaching to something like 120Kbps. This is in my normal coverage area where I can often get from 1100 to 1800 Kbps. I had thought that I might be getting throttled since I used a total of like 14GB of 3G last month. The new billing cycle started today and I'm still getting the same horrid speeds. What gives? I've already reflashed my ROM and modem without any benefit. Anyone else know what could be going on?

Sprint is the problem. LOL I'm not sure have you tried contacting Sprint? I'm jelly that you can even achieve 1200kbps.

Hahahahahahaha I remember those days. Man that's how bad sprints service is. That's why I left them and went with Verizon.

Seriously? Who would stay with a carrier that would take 5 minutes just to load a picture? I'll be sure to call them later. For some reason that never crossed my mind.

I tried Sprint briefly years ago, sounds like they haven't improved much since then.
if not for the LTE in my area (san antonio) sprint would be unusable.
It sounds like 1X data speeds and not 3G, some of the stock roms display a 3G icon even when connected to 1X data. If you use the speedtest app
it will show a graph of the results, if the speed graph looks like it hits a ceiling around 100k,.it is probably connected to 1X data.
If you see multiple spikes in the graph well above 100k, it is probably a crappy connection/signal.
Same here. I'm on Virgin Mobile, but it's apart of Sprint too. It's been crappy for the past week.

I'm on Sprint. Get about 500 to 1000kbits on 3G in my area. I understand they're not great in all areas, but the price is good.

So. Uh. If that isn't the best speed test you've ever seen? I think Jellybro has the 1x indicator fix and the normal upload speeds seem to indicate I'm on 3G. Sprint dude just said to take it to a store. I guess I'll do that. Unless going back to complete stock might fox something. I'll try that next.
