I am using 3g data connection on my Xperia Play from the past 2 months, i used to get a downloading speed around 700KBps. But since yesterday my 3G data speed has gone extremely low in the range of 20-50KBps(sometimes stuck at 0KBps).
At 1st i thought it is my network problem, but when i asked my one friend, who lives nearby me and uses the same 3G network, he said that the speed is just fine, no changes in speed, so i restarted my phone removed and reinserted my sim card. changed from 3G to 2G back to 3G again, but still the same speed.
Now when i put my sim card in my older phone, samsung galaxy 3, it is giving me back my 3g speed and i get very good download speeds.
but upon reinserting the sim in Xperia Play i again get low speed as stated earlier,
What has gone wrong? i have installed tweaks from this thread , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1456777 a very long time ago.
i have rooted and supercharged my Xperia play and i am using stock 2.3.4 rom.
Might not help but what Network are you on? ;p
i am using India network,
also i removed the tweaks by editing build.prop, installed and applied 3g speed optimizer, still no effect.
Ask your provider. This is a network problem not the device itself.

ok i will try it.
but when i use my sim in my samsung galaxy 3 i get full speed, but the same sim gives me **** speed in my Play and this started happening from yesterday, earlier my speed was very good.
Could it be your network mode is on: GSM only?
Instead of UMTS > GSM?
(Not sure if they even use the GSM network in India, it is just an idea.)
(Iam pretty sure having it on GSM only will give you very bad speeds on 3G, atleast it did for me.)
Kind regards, Stefan.
Could have been throttled. Not sure if that's a problem with your carrier but I used to run into it all the time on mine

well after 10hrs of network blackout i got my 3g speed back, that too full throttle.
btw is 700KBps the max speed we can get on Xplay or is more achievable???

Your speed depends on where you live, carrier coverage map, towers, obstruction inside of buildings such as cement walls. Etc numerous things becomes a factor towards your speed.

What's the fastest speedtest? I've seen 9 on YouTube, has anybody got any faster?
My Dl speeds have been quite slow, but for some crazy reason the other night I was DL at 600kb UL at 6mb
i know.
i didn't typo that. i was uploading 10 times faster than i was downloading, and i was uploading faster than my home internet connection will go.
I've hit 7.2 download a week ago. I normally average between 4.5-6.

I've gone up to 4.5 Mbps. Haven't done many speed tests.
Let me preface this with I work at a Radioshack.
When we first got the G2's in, before the phone actually launched, I tested one out just to see what kind of speeds it could get. My store is in a 5 bar HDPA+ area. The first test out of the box I got 8mpbs, and the second I got 10.5mbps, every one after that was ~10. After the phone launched and a few weeks went buy I got mine and iv been getting between 4-7mbps in the exact same spot.
So the phone is capable of it, but now that tmobiles network is getting more hammered by HSPA+ phones its slowing down I think.
The highest I received was 5.8 and that was in Las Vegas....
fastest i ever got was 4.85 mb/s after the ota. but it wasnt on hspa+ just hspa 7.2.. still just "3G"...
Taken in Plano, TX. Don't really like the fact that my wife's Vibrant will go to the server in Dallas and my old MyTouch always went to the one in Dallas, but my G2 will not find it for anything.
I've gotten around 7 or 8 as my highest in Western New York. Pretty decent speeds.
i can't figure this one out.
Normal:
I would like to post my Speedtest result but cannot figure out how to paste it in a message. I feel like an idiot, help?

I'm new to Sprint and just thought that 3G was that slow, but I cannot get speedtest to even complete 60% of the time.
Things to check if you haven't.
Update radios to latest versions (Can be found in development section)
Be sure you updated your PROFILE and/or PRL (though I dont think PRL will fix anything unless you are roaming).
How long has this been going on? Is it possible that Sprint is having network difficulties?
network
Ur internet shouldn't be that slow,,,,, but what area do u live in ,,, please leave a zip and the reason is that sprint is changing networks up a putting I den,3g,4g in one cell site and it will give a range of signal from 800mhz to 4.3ghz from one sit and they have 80,000
Cell sites
yestrue do check the updates or do a ##72786#,,,,, enter msl,,,,tap menu,,,,,select reset
this is not a factory reset. It is a scrtn ( service code return to new) and it erases the programming and does the hands free
I'm on 680 PRL. and everything is up to date on the phone according to all the update buttons(firmware/prl/htc)
this is a brand new phone and I have tested it in 5 different locations around northwest Houston and it is always crawling. when I switch 4G on I'm good to go, but 3G takes forever to get google.com to load even on full bars.

exactly as reddragon said, everything is the latest as far as rom, radios, prl, even the latest hboot, which i know has nothing to do with it, but as soon as everything is updated i try to keep up with it.
the 4g is awesome when i'm on the 11th floor in midtown manhattan full blast i get close to fiber optic speed when i tether... but maybe it's just the area i work in but it has severely diminished since i got the phone. ongoing i want to say it's been about 3 weeks now that my 3G has been this bad.
I will try that reset and see if it gets better and post the results. Thanks for the contributions!
Ok, so here's the update:
I did ##72786#
Entered MSL
Pressed Menu
Reset...
and it went to .10Mbps d/l and .02Mbps u/l
tried retesting my speed when I got home and got 0.03 d/l and 0.02 u/l with a 990ms ping.
When I had did the 3G boost hack before the update, things were fine, it wasn't all that great but it was at least the speed of dial up.

Can't tell of source but it is true and so chi town and few other areas next is new York
I'm having horrible 3G speeds at work here and was wondering if anyone else was having these issues? It shows i have full 3G bars yet when i run speed test i'm consistently getting only around 100 Kbps, I'm not sure if it's the service or the phone.
Anyone else noticing ridiculously slow 3G speeds?
Not sure. Here are my Verizon 3G speeds.

Here's my past couple ones on 3G. I dunno whether or not to call Verizon about this or not.
Why wouldn't you call Verizon about it? If it's a network problem, they could tell you. If it's a defective phone, they could help you with that as well.
I always get horrible 3g speeds at my job... similar to what you are seeing even though the signal is good. I think some towers are slower then others.
Were you getting better speeds before this phone?

Those look identical to Sprint 3G speeds.
Where are you located?

I would give verizon tech support a call, maybe they can provision the phone again and and maybe that would help. You're sitting in a good 3G and 4G area, there isn't any reason to get those kind of speeds you're seeing.
This is what my phone looks like when using data (i'm on at&t):

It just has a 4G logo, but i saw a video of someone else that had a 4G logo with LTE over it. Am i on lte? The closest lte city (on the at&t coverage map) is out of state for me, so i was unsure if i was on lte or not. The best speeds i've seen so far are 9500kbps down / 1200kbps up.
The reason i'm asking is because i think i found a way to disable lte and force hspa+ connection. I created a new APN and entered the details i found online. When i switch to this alternate APN, the 4G logo is the same, but my speeds are different (5000 kbps down instead of a consistent 9000+). When i switch back to the default APN my speed goes back up to 9000+.
Will using this alternate APN which yields slower data speed save battery for me?
That's HSPA, on your screen shot.

Thought so. Will using the other APN save battery then? since it yields slower speeds?

This is the logo you'll see if you're on AT&T's LTE
Dont think it will save anything as lte us still enabled.
I am not in an lte area and get good battery. From 1 to 2days depending on use and whether I turn off data at night.

So, for the majority of last month I recall having absolute **** speeds on 3G ranging from 20 to 70 Kbps occasionally reaching to something like 120Kbps. This is in my normal coverage area where I can often get from 1100 to 1800 Kbps. I had thought that I might be getting throttled since I used a total of like 14GB of 3G last month. The new billing cycle started today and I'm still getting the same horrid speeds. What gives? I've already reflashed my ROM and modem without any benefit. Anyone else know what could be going on?

Sprint is the problem. LOL I'm not sure have you tried contacting Sprint? I'm jelly that you can even achieve 1200kbps.

Seriously? Who would stay with a carrier that would take 5 minutes just to load a picture? I'll be sure to call them later. For some reason that never crossed my mind.

I tried Sprint briefly years ago, sounds like they haven't improved much since then.
if not for the LTE in my area (san antonio) sprint would be unusable.
It sounds like 1X data speeds and not 3G, some of the stock roms display a 3G icon even when connected to 1X data. If you use the speedtest app
it will show a graph of the results, if the speed graph looks like it hits a ceiling around 100k,.it is probably connected to 1X data.
If you see multiple spikes in the graph well above 100k, it is probably a crappy connection/signal.
Same here. I'm on Virgin Mobile, but it's apart of Sprint too. It's been crappy for the past week.

I'm on Sprint. Get about 500 to 1000kbits on 3G in my area. I understand they're not great in all areas, but the price is good.

So. Uh. If that isn't the best speed test you've ever seen? I think Jellybro has the 1x indicator fix and the normal upload speeds seem to indicate I'm on 3G. Sprint dude just said to take it to a store. I guess I'll do that. Unless going back to complete stock might fox something. I'll try that next.
