Instant Messenger Application Now Available for Cingular 8500/8525 and TREO 750!
START AND END DATE:
4/23/2007 - Ongoing
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OVERVIEW:
The Instant Messaging application, currently found on the E62 and Blackjack, is now available via download for the Cingular 8500/8525 and Treo 750. Customers will be able to enjoy access to Yahoo! Messenger, AOL Instant Messaging (AIM), and Windows Live Messenger communities through one user interface. In the future all new PDAs and Smartphones will launch with the Instant Messaging application preloaded.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEY SELLING POINTS:
· Mobile IM from AT&T Mobility offers customers a familiar desktop-like IM experience with features that include existing community user names and passwords, a chat conversation window, buddy lists, presence status, and emoticons.
· Mobile IM offers an immediate, yet informal communication option that other communications cannot provide (e.g. voice, email, text messaging). Consumers can extend their desktop IM community to their mobile device and vice versa (Mobile-to-PC and PC-to-Mobile, and Mobile-to-Mobile IM communications), enjoy 24/7 instant connectivity to their contacts, and communicate in environments that are not conducive to traditional voice conversations.

· Sprint/Nextel provides an IM application on select “Power Vision” capable phones with support for AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! using separate IM applications. Customers are charged by kilobyte (kb) usage, and can choose from a variety of data bolt-ons that include unlimited IM.
· Verizon provides an IM application on select BlackBerry and “Get-It-Now” capable devices. The application is available via a download, and supports AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! within one application. Customers are charged on a per message basis, or can use from a variety of messaging packages.
Do you have a link to new IM? Or can you tell me how to get it?
thanks
no link as yet? or will we have to wait till the 23rd.
Maybe I'm missing it...
Is this application using sms for IM or data plan?
Does it charge the messages as a text message, or as data?
In other words.. If I have the unlimited DATA plan and NO SMS, will I get unlimited IM or would I need to pay per message sent via. SMS?
Most likely text, I believe that is how the blackjack works.
if this is true, then i'd guess the release of the IM app is related to the expected friday (4/20) announcement for unlimited SMS/MMS on cingular/att. the existing $19.99 messaging extreme 3000 package will apparently become messaging unlimited.

to answer your question.... there is a program that u can use that does just use your data plan, its called imov messenger there is a free version but I would advise you to pay the $20.00 for the enterprise version......

if you need help finding a free version just let me kno
This is the Instant Messenger that I use. I've used them all from IM+ to Verichat, etc... Mundu is very nice. The full version is only $11 USD. It says for smartphone, but it works for WM5/WM6 just like it should. You also have the ability to send files from PPC to users as well.
There is a 5 day free trial if you wanna check it out first...

I use IM on my phone when I'm in a meeting and need to touch base with other techs to get them to fix a server or something. But it doesn't seem real easy to use, and i'm concerned for my battery.
Which IM client seems to have the best interface and battery usage?
Thanks,
Rob

well i have this program running while im at work all day and it doesnt really drain m battery that much... it also depends on of your in a 3G area or not... when you are using HSDPA/UMTS it consumes alot more battery life than when your you just on an EDGE/GPRS network.... just a thought
IMOV sucks you have to use the stylist for everything it does not have a good user interface..

Yes I have noticed this and I doubt the enterprise version is any different however its a small price to pay for the program using data instead of sms so in effect making it free for me to IM as much as I want.

the aim program is still buggy it takes alittle bit to send messages and it does not receive any at all.. plus when you sign on it shows you on as a mobile device..
yea i hear that there are problems with the aim program.... but i havent really tried it out that much, i jus try and live with imov messenger.... if i had the know how or the time i would make an IM client that ran off the jabber service (like imov) but make it a little more user friendly... maybe someone can decompile imov and the IM client and make something miraculous out of it... hmmm. I'll start reading.....

It's right there in front of you! "SMS Groupifier" -- sheesh! (no, sorry, just kidding, no offense... I sympathize whenever functionality you are used to on one platform is reduced when migrating to another... especially one competing to outdo the other. I am sure you have searched AndroLib.com -- but if not, maybe a thin thin chance there is something else there.
i tried groupsms too
same crap
very annoying....cant believe i cant send my sms on this little computer cellphone
any help or idea?
Apparently there is an app called Text Easy also Chomp allows you to send to google groups. Discussed at Android Community

Hello, Newbie to Android world here - receiving my HTC Desire, hopefully, next week.
Just wanted to share some information regarding an application called "LiveProfile" which will soon be released that incorporates BBM for Androids, if im not mistaken.
Anyone heard of it?
Just looked it up and from what I can see its a replacement for bbm. It will work across iPhone, blackberry and android. Basically MSN messenger for phones.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I've been using a BlackBerry for practically 2 years now and I have to say perhaps the only application that has the BB stand out among its rivals is the BlackBerry Messenger - now with LiveProfile, I'm very excited for the upcoming release of this app.
What's the advantage of this over WhatsApp or PingChat? Those are both multi-platform already, and with WhatsApp there's no need for a user name as it uses your phone number, so anyone in your contacts with the application is automatically in your friend list.
Yeah, why another one? ... PingChat is OK.
I know, competition is good.
But for this kind of app, I just want ONE ...
It seems impossible.
Wait until someone created multi of multi IM of multi IM ...
PingChat is a good one.
MJwitter: well, quite frankly, i believe there is one prime advantage over iphone's Whatsapp in terms of privacy. With "whatsapp" you do not necessarily have to have the contact on your list, just as long as he has your number he is able to send you msgs - which a lot of people would find annoying (you could probably ignore them, im not sure, but its a terrible feature initially)
gogol + lukehluke: i have never heard of ping chat before. i'll have to google it. However, as i have mentioned earlier i believe this application is intended to merge bbm, whatsapp and so on all under one roof - again I am uncertain of this information; however, hopefully this turns out to be the advantage of LiveProfile.
Nonetheless, thank you for sharing that information.
I just checked it out; however it seems to display an error when i clicked on "Join Now." Is this application not yet released?
there are quite a few BBM replacements available. They will never connect to BBM Contacts but provide the same functionality.
1. PingChat
2. Cnectd
3. LucidMessenger
4. Pmessenger
those are all i know of atm.
I'll try ping chat on HTC, just as soon as I get it by next week.
I heard about Pmessenger, but the reviews weren't very good.
Is WhatsApp ever coning out for android?, ive tried to convert a few people over to ping chat but they all use whatsapp
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I'm confused. Help me. What is the differences between pingchat, whatsapp and IM messenger such ebuddy, fringe, and nimbuzz?
LOL try to be patient, my friend.
Ive been trying to do that for the past 24 hrs too. fortunately, a few ppl installed it.
however, they dont need to "convert" to pingchat, ask them to install it and they could use both ;D

Pingchat and Whatsapp? call themselves 'SMS Replacement' apps. Wherein they act like BBM so you can send a message whether a person is online or offline. These apps can only be used between their respective clients i.e. Pingchat-to-Pingchat, Whatsapp?-to-Whatsapp?
IM clients connect through AIM, MSN, Facebook &c.
Whatsapp Beta works. Google up Whatsapp android beta and youll find a download link on a facebook page. Install it and then you may get authorization error just wait like 1 day and try again and it will work. Been working well cant find any bugs with it yet.
I tried what you said but only info seems to say the beta is only available for people living in san fansisco and whatsapp put the app on your phone from there office?, cant seem to find a download link or apk file, if you have a link can you post it or reply to me with a pm to the link please, thanks.

Ok i found it
http://beta.whatsapp.com/WhatsApp.apk
It installs fine but doesnt seem to work as you need to register to be a beta tester.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yea like i said install it it will fail just wait and try again tommorow and it will start working. lots of people have reported success after waiting a while
Cool, i'll update in a day or 2 if its working, did you email them to request to be a beta tester or just try it after a few days and it worked without emailing them?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Didn't send an email
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Cool, its started working.
Ok, my quick review - pingchat vs whatsapp
Its alot faster than pingchat in terms of messages being delivered, sometimes pingchat lags a very long time and also pingtchat soelmetimes doesnt give notifications unless you open the app, so whatsapp wins on those two.
But pingchat has a MUCH better look and feet to it, and it works on phone numbers & ID's so you can use either, but whatsapp only works over phone numbers, so unless i have the persons phone number i cant message them on whatsapp, but on pingchat you can just use there id and dont need there phone number so pingchat wins on that.
So both have goods & bads, ping chat is free though which is a plus, if you check in the account info in the whatsapp beta, it says it expires in November 2010, so i asume thats when it goes live in the android marketplace, it also has an upgrade option so it will definatly be a paid app when its released and have a limeted free use period
More people use whatsapp so its better "at the moment", but pingchat has a much better feel to it, so hopfully more people start using pingchat.

I have a question.....about htc's keyboard (RCMixHD rom)..i don't remember the stock one..but either way....where can I find phone smileys ....without using any app like go sms pro....(there I have an option ..and I see them )and when I check out the standard program they appear there too...they are like this "" but with an android instead this ball
Awww, my baby sister asked the same question...
There isn't a button that brings up the smilies but honestly, three key presses will get most (punctuation).
on the Stock HTC keyboard press "12#" then "1/2"
All I know about that is on WhatsApp.
It is a free App on market tha allow you to send and recieve SMS like a chat to everybody who have the same app. It is for free because it works on 3g wireless network.
If u use it for your SMS (Free with a flat internet plain), it will give u the possibility to use smiles.
Sorry

Is the well-read one the characteristics of whatsapp in the market and mentions textually: " whatsapp its free the first year, $1.99/year after " " be careful!

Hello fellow s3 owners! I was wondering if one of you fine lads could recommend me a messaging application that supports both SMS and Facebook messages.
The new Facebook messenger no longer integrates SMS so I'm looking for something new. We don't get cell service in our house so I use Facebook to message my girlfriend and would prefer to not have two separate messaging apps.
I've looked at ebuddy but the ratings aren't too great and the interface isn't that nice either.
If there aren't any good ones would you guys recommend a messaging app available for both android and ios that uses wifi ie. Whatsapp?
