I've been kind of baffled at how terribly Android handles the file organization on SD cards. It seems totally crazy to me that it dumps everything into the root of the sd card, instead of putting all of the apps, folders, and temp files into a single parent folder (/sdcard/android/* for example). There has to be some way to deal with this, especially considering that Android OS it's a biproduct of a company who's entire business model is built around efficiency and streamlining information.
So my question is this: does anyone have any idea how to deal with this? I've done some Googling but haven't really found much.
Thanks in advance!
(I'm rooted and running MIUI 12.11 on an ADR6300.)
*** er, organization ***

I too have wondered the same thing. The best thing I have found to do is reformat it and start from scratch. A lot of different programs seem to make their own folders. Coming from windows mobile where everything is organized via things like "programs files" sucks but id definenlty take android over all
agreed. i came from ios jailbreak world - even there things are more organized. best way to liken this is:
iphone = lexus - user friendly, everything works but it wont give you great thrills. even if you jailbreak it, virtually impossible to brick. there is always a way out.
android = mercedes - designed by engineers for engineers, a whole lotta fun if you know what you are doing but extremely inelegant UI or organization inside the guts. you can hurt yourself bad if you make a mistake i.e. brick it.
I like it.. Good analogy.

Reformatting? What kind of stuff sites that erase? I myself have been noticing the sd card is a bit messy, but it seems like reformatting would erase app data that us kinda important.

Good analogy indeed.
That's kind of a bust though. I came from ios jailbreaking as well, and I had high hopes for a more cognitive file system from Android. Needless to say, I was more than let down.
I still feel like there has to be a setting or string of settings somewhere (at least on a binary level) that could be changed to send everything to mnt/sdcard/Android instead of just mnt/sdcard. Something has to tell it where the sd location is.

thanks guys! the people on these forums can be quite rabid about android and i was worried I might be told off. The truth is that despite the more chaotic way things happen in android I still prefer it to iOS. There is certainly more tinkering to be done in android and certainly a bigger unofficial dev community who can tweak it. However, one of my observations is that most android dev work here tends to be a lot more individualistic expressions (and funnily most of them are still quite similar) rather than concerted teamwork of the iphone dev team type barring a few exceptions - MIUI, cyanogen come to mind.
I wish the devs would collaborate with each other a lot more than they do. then there could be specialization on various aspects and we would truly see the advantages of open source code.
I feel all of y'all. It really is the lesser of two evils; the file system. Give a little, get a little.

I've formatted my SD card before without any dire consequences. As soon as I put the completely empty card back in that whole "preparing SD Card" message appears, and you get the typical android folders back in there. I did that because I've wiped my phone when flashing a new ROM and there were app folders on there for apps that I never put back on the phone. It was just part of my slight neurosis towards organization.
what I do is just ignore the root of the sdcard as much as possible. I have a directory in the root named my name( like "users/username") and I use astro and make that the default location. I have music, videos... folders there and that is where I keep all my stuff.
You could probably make symlinks from there out to your picture and download folders and never really have to leave it to get your stuff?
Smart solution. Thanks!!
Hi there!

Hmmm, what are you planning to do with the SD Card ?
Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are organobromide compounds that have an inhibitory effect on the ignition of combustible organic materials. Of the commercialized chemical flame retardants, the brominated variety are most widely used. They are very effective in plastics and textile applications, e.g. electronics, clothes and furniture. BFRs are commonly used in electronic products as a means of reducing the flammability of the product.
LMAO!!

I have been on xda for a little over a year. It is the site I come to first for anything. The minds at work here have helped me make my Evo the fantastic old school device it is now. But my friends and I have came to the conclusion that there is a LOT of arguing and bickering. It seems to be an issue.
My suggestion? Keep the site as is. Access can stay the same. But only allow people that pay, say .99 xda enrollment fee, to be able to download and/post. Make it just as readable as it currently is. Allow the trolls to read posts and hate quietly. Leave it to the people that are here for development or modifications. It should trim down a lot of the general crybabies and arguementative people. They will still be there, but not as many, and either way xda as a whole wins. At .99 a memeber you would be able to enjoy such downloads as apks, posting about topics, etc.
That would probably be a great way to drive of devs from this site. Going to make them pay to post, make people pay to get their roms apps etc. They could go to different sites or open their own, which is what would happen
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Pay to post? I mean I knew this was going to be a horrible idea from the title, but I didn't expect "Don't let anyone post unless they pay!"
I don't think so. Lots of people pay .99 for so silly app all the time. I'm merely making a suggestion to help clear the clutter. If u haven't notice, some devs have already left...due to bickering. Whining. I know of countless people who would gladly come to a little more refined site. And no, a paid membership would keep all the trash out but it definitely would cut it down.
To ad to this, please moderators or devs please don't take offense to this post. I love xda. This is a great site. I felt I came to the right forum w a decent idea. I do not expect this idea implemented but I feel as though it shouldn't be discarded but at least looked into. I understand the size of this site and am not looking to disrespect any member of this board. But I would gladly pay for a little exclusivity if it meant in the long run that the social a developmental needs were being better met.

It would be as a membership fee. Pay to post is all you have read? Haha. I've watched people buy apps for $2 and never use them. You say .99 is too much? Maybe its xda that's all too glad to accept everyone when in truth that's not always the right approach due to abusers of privilege. Most paid just for xda premium unless they ripped it of some site. I have accrued way more than .99 worth of knowledge. This is simply food for thought. Its not really about money. My idea just seemed simple and an extremely easy way to solve many mild issues. I can deal with it as free is great for me. But I personally would be more than willing to, due to the resources xda offers alone is enough.
While this isnt the worst idea I've ever heard I do think its a little extreme.
In my opinion the best way to deal with these problem users is for diligent and well intentioned members such as yourselves to make full use of the report post function and let us deal with any issues that might arise.
I also think that there needs to be a little understanding of the fact that this is the internet and it is crawling with trolls....
We will deal with problematic users but we need your help and for people to understand that although we endeavour to deal with any situation as quickly as possible, we simply cannot catch every little thing right there and then.
Also, if you see a member who is clearly out to cause drama and controversy...
Dont feed the troll. If everyone made more of an effort to simply ignore these idiots then they'd get bored pretty quickly...
In the words of the prophets Bill & Ted....

yes i agree 100% that this is a bad idea xda has always been about promoting open source if u make people pay to use the site then it would be one of the most contradicting things ive ever seen.
Also as compared to other website like ppcgeeks and android forums xda is far more organized and set up better i think its just fine the way it is.
on another note when i read the title u came of as a troll right away u might want to reward that a little.
That's funny. Well, none of it was meant to be taken any wrong way. Merely a suggestion. That's what the forums are here for.
Like it or not my idea will never come to fruition but I still would gladly pay. Anyone that argues or complains or suggests its outrageous should look at how much knowledge is worth.
We will all have our own ideas and opinions and in the end .99 isn't **** to be a member of an elite site such as xda. Which I will gladly accept and enjoy my free membership. And if it ever were to change, I wouldn't complain one bit
If trying to come up with a creative solution is considered being a troll then I think about 100% of users on this site fall in that category. Maybe have a 3 strike and your banned policy if you get reported for unruly behavior 3 times then boom access denied! That might make folks think twice before bashing someone who is just trying to learn.

agreed. You can get prepaid credit cards for free now. Just go to the local grocery store.
I actually wouldn't mind this, the same way I don't mind paying for my apps or my mediafire acct. I don't think 10 bucks a year registration fee would be unreasonable.
But it would never happen for the reasons already listed. Open source might be free, but the devices are not, and people don't seem to mind dropping 600 bucks on the next latest and greatest.
As a side note for the minors, I have actually considered getting my kids prepaid debit cards that are reloadable for their allowance. It's a digital age. People that still write checks at walmart drive me crazy. They are processed as a debit and given right back!!!

I upgraded my Titanium Backup to the Pro version paying the $5.95 (actually $1.00 + CHF 5.25). it was instantly upgraded, and I got the email (+smses from my bank). Yesterday on its own it has reverted back to the donate version. Also,if I remember correctly there was a second Titanium app which is also now missing. I am on Android 2.3.3 on my Dinc 2.
I download the pro version from 4share.apk
Finally fixed. Titanium staff (Joel) were most helpful. Finally, removed and reinstalled Titanium Backup and the problem was fixed. Reinstalling the Key file did not help. Apparently, if you are using the same Google account then i. you can reload the key and ii.you can run it on multiple phones. They key is personal to you.

I seldom use those forbidden sites to acquire fully functioning software products only to make sure that it WILL perform properly on my aged PC.
If it works and I like it, I actually purchase the software and re install the proper version on my PC.
If it does not work or I don't care for it I remove it.
Piracy for the sole purpose of trying to get something for free that is offered for usually a modest amount, is wrong plain and simple.
It IS nice of you to offer help to people that are stuck trying to make use of the software that they DID pay for.
Usually there is a Read Me file within the file or on the site stating that if you like the product, then you should pay for it.
And now that you know, If you like the product and it works as it should, you should either pay for it or uninstall it.
The site you quoted probably doesn't pay ANY add revenue to the developer of the product.
I know it was a hassle to get my purchase validated also, but I kept at it and feel good about having done this.

For those of you that don't remember me, I released the midNIGHT ROM back on the Epic 4G and the EpicTouch 4G. The purpose of the release was to bring Autism Awareness to the Android community. As the father to 3 boys on the Autism Spectrum, spreading awareness is my mission. It worked amazingly well. Even now, there are Autism Awareness banners in peoples signatures and that's awesome.
Anyway, I retired after the Epic Touch 4G because things with my family demanded all of my time and energy.
I never stopped tinkering but never released anything publicly. I decided that I would throw my hat in one last time and release what I've been using, in case anyone is interested. I have also re-branded the ROM from midNIGHT to Android4Autism, as this is a project I began awhile ago. The mission of Android4Autism is to show the community that you don't need a overpriced iPad to help your child with developmental disabilities like Autism, to communicate with and navigate their world.
What does this ROM include?
This is a basic ROM based on the Deodexed L900VPALJC OTA by joshbeach and is geared for people who don't want anything heavily modded and or tweaked. I prefer simple and clean to heavily themed. This is a very stock ROM, nothing fancy.
Apps installed to data so they are easily uninstallable:

Instructions:
This ROM does not wipe your DATA.
SUPER IMPORTANT: Always back up prior to flashing any ROM. Things happen and it's nice to have a backup to recover from.
1) Copy ROM to your internal memory or SD card.
2) Boot into TWRP and Flash. Learn something about Autism while the ROM installs.

Autism Education
This is directly from Autism Speaks
What is Autism?
Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). The other pervasive developmental disorders are PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not
Otherwise Specified), Asperger’s Syndrome, Rett Syndrome and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder. Many parents and professionals refer to this group as Autism Spectrum Disorders.
How common is Autism?
Today, it is estimated that one in every 88 children is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. An estimated 1.5 million individuals in the U.S. and tens of millions worldwide are affected by autism. Government statistics suggest the prevalence rate of autism is increasing 10-17 percent annually. There is not established explanation for this increase, although improved diagnosis and environmental influences are two reasons often considered. Studies suggest boys are more likely than girls to develop autism and receive the diagnosis three to four times more frequently. Current estimates are that in the United States alone, 1 out of 54 boys is diagnosed with autism.
What causes Autism?
The simple answer is we don’t know. The vast majority of cases of autism are idiopathic, which means the cause is unknown.
The more complex answer is that just as there are different levels of severity and combinations of symptoms in autism, there are probably multiple causes. The best scientific evidence available to us today points toward a potential for various combinations of factors causing autism – multiple genetic components that may cause autism on their own or possibly when combined with exposure to as yet undetermined environmental factors. Timing of exposure during the child’s development (before, during or after birth) may also play a role in the development or final presentation of the disorder.
A small number of cases can be linked to genetic disorders such as Fragile X, Tuberous Sclerosis, and Angelman’s Syndrome, as well as exposure to environmental agents such as infectious ones (maternal rubella or cytomegalovirus) or chemical ones (thalidomide or valproate) during pregnancy.
There is a growing interest among researchers about the role of the functions and regulation of the immune system in autism – both within the body and the brain. Piecemeal evidence over the past 30 years suggests that autism may involve inflammation in the central nervous system. There is also emerging evidence from animal studies that illustrates how the immune system can influence behaviors related to autism. Autism Speaks is working to extend awareness and investigation of potential immunological issues to researchers outside the field of autism as well as those within the autism research community.
While the definitive cause (or causes) of autism is not yet clear, it is clear that it is not caused by bad parenting. Dr. Leo Kanner, the psychiatrist who first described autism as a unique condition in 1943, believed that it was caused by cold, unloving mothers. Bruno Bettelheim, a renowned professor of child development perpetuated this misinterpretation of autism. Their promotion of the idea that unloving mothers caused their children’s autism created a generation of parents who carried the tremendous burden of guilt for their children’s disability.
In the 1960s and 70s, Dr. Bernard Rimland, the father of a son with autism, who later founded the Autism Society of America and the Autism Research Institute, helped the medical community understand that autism is not caused by cold parents but rather is a biological disorder.

1. I’m sorry I have fits but I’m not a spoiled brat. I’m just so much younger on the inside than I am on the outside.
2. I’m easily overwhelmed because I see and hear everything. I hear the lights hum and clock tick. Everything is so loud it makes my head hurt all the time and my eyes hurt from all the bright lights.
3. I’m not stupid, I’m actually very smart. I just don’t learn the way you want me to. Please learn about Autism so you know how to help me better understand what you are trying to teach.
4. Please don’t be mad at mommy and daddy because we don’t come over for holidays or birthdays. They really want to go but I don’t do well at another person’s house. It’s too overwhelming for me and they know that. They don’t go because they love me, NOT because they don’t like you.
5. Please have patience with me. I try really hard to make good decisions but I can be very impulsive at times.
6. Yes, I have Autism but that doesn't mean I’m less of a person because of it. If anything, I’m actually more of a person in spite of it.
7. My house might be messy sometimes. It’s because my mommy and daddy spend all their time trying to find new ways to help me or teach my brother to talk..
8. Just because I can’t talk doesn't mean I don’t understand what you are saying. My feelings can be hurt just like yours.
9. I wish my mommy and daddy knew how much I love them. I have a really hard time with emotions and I don’t always like to be touched. But I love them more than anything in the world, even more then my Lego’s.
10. I know I can be frustrating but don’t tell me I won’t amount to anything because I have Autism. If you love and support me I WILL do great things in my life in spite of my challenges.

I don't actually use Google Wallet. However, your right. It doesn't work now that I tried it. Simply uninstall or wait for it to be updated by Google.
I support this. I like simple and clean with not to much theming.

Alright. The link is live in the OP. The ROM is hosted on the server for my blog. I just had to upgrade servers again as I'm getting almost 2,000,000 hits a month on my blog. I now have unlimited bandwidth so have at it and let me know if you have any problems.
Remember, this is a pretty simply ROM with a few mods and tweaks and all the ugly orange an yellow removed from the theme. If you're looking for something more elaborate, you may want to look elsewhere.
This is what I am personally using and I just wanted to share and give something back, all while spreading some Autism Awareness.
I don't consider myself a super talented developer. I do this for fun, in my free time.
Thanks everyone.
Hi, I'm k0nane. You might know me as k0nane.
Watch for mirrors in the morning, this ROM is on the mirror network.
Wait, did I actually contribute something useful to someone's ROM thread this time? I usually just spam up ecooce's place...
