I have used Odin before but whenever I try to use it now, it always freezes on a file. I have tried multiple .tar files and all of them freeze on either Sbl.bin or factoryfs.rfs
I decided to attempt to go back to stock because I was having issues on my browser when I was using Syndicate Frozen ROM. I have already installed the drivers, read the wiki, and tried to look for threads with similar problems but couldn't find anything that solved my issue. I would prefer if I didn't have to send my phone in. Anyways, my phone is bricked until I can figure out the freezing issue I am experiencing with Odin. I have tried all the fixes I have found but I still manage to have the same problem.
I have tried all versions of Odin from v1.61 all through Odin v1.81 and have tried flashing SPH-D700-EC05-8gb-REL.tar, SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL.tar, and SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL. But no luck.
Any help here?
Try a different USB cord.

I tried using the USB cable from my mom's epic too.
*Sorry for making a pointless thread about this, I just figured out that only 1 usb slot actually works on my PC. I just tried going through all of them now and it actually worked. Sorry for wasting your time.
Glad u figured it out.

I am running CM7 and just recently started having some USB problems. I plug in my USB and shows connected in the notification bar but when I click the notification to enable USB mass storage, the mass storage screen pops up for a moment and the disappears.
I have tried wiping data, using different USB cords and everything but no luck. Today I went to odin back to stock to fix but odin couldn't find my epic at all. The phone runs fine except for that. What is wrong? How could I fix it?
Did you try checking (turning on) USB debugging?
This Epic post as brought to you via Tapatalk
Just tried it with and without. Neither worked.
Anything else possible?
Uninstall ur drivers and reinstall them. Also u may have to do a factory reset. But try the drivers first.

The drivers you are given for odin? Or something else?
No...www.samsung.com/support. Click on sprint, then d700, then software, and all the way to the right is a little file folder...click on it...that will download the drivers.

Ya. I tried that and it didn't work. By factory reset do you mean flash back to stock? I could get odin to work either and I'm on MTD.
Its weird because at times it seems like its the software when at other times it seems like its the hardware. I'm pretty sure its the phone side but I could be wrong. It still charges fine through USB.
ohhh...your on MTD... i'm seeing that, that is such a headache to deal with. well i have no knowledge of that yet, sorry.
I was angry at my current rom which was on MTD so i decided just to you the old samsung "phone flash utility" (Epic4G_FroyoUpgrade_EB13.exe) that was uploaded on their site like a year ago to go back to stock. well i think since the phone was MTD it didnt work and now its stock at the connect cable screen, is there anything i can do?
I am running CleanGB MTD. The first time I tried to install it I had a bad download & needed to redo it from scratch. I used the Samsung EB13 Windows Installer utility to restore my phone back to stock & had no problems at all. It was up & running on MTD just had a few errors that I did not have time to fix that morning & I ran it for a few days after restoring with the utility, rooting, & restoring my backup. But now I'm enjoying the MTD goodness.....
Can you get back into download mode?
If so I would get a different USB cable & try running the installer again.

from what ive been reading on the threads, i believe you can just odin back, and back sure you have reboot and re-partition checked marked.
I found out what the problem was. I should have known this because this happened to me once before. I was using my front USB ports. Front ports on most pc's are only 1.0 and you need to use the back 2.0 ones to work. Most people think its cable issues but its usually just USB port. This samsung utility is a complete gem! screw odin. thanks for the response!!!

thanks guys. Yeah ive been using that sammy file since ec05 came out. this is the 3rd brick maybe 4th it got me out of. it works for EVERYTHING. better than odin.
Wow, I didn't know this exe thing existed. Odin has NOT been working on my home PC for tje past few weeks(months?) and that has kept me from trying anything that would require Odin to recover from, i.e. mtd.
Glad I read here in the Q&A pretty regularly. Most of the time I'm seeing if there's anyone I can help, but times like this I end up learning new things.

I am at work so I cannot post the file I have, but I put the file name in & searched in Google & several download options popped up.
Google Search: Epic4G_FroyoUpgrade_EB13.exe
Check it out & let me know if you need me to post a copy of the file, I saw several already on services like multiupload in the search.
Look at the thread stickied in development. The Samsung tool won't work all the time.

So my friend gave me his phone to see if I could fix it. It loops in CWM and won't get out of it and I can't connect with odin to it. (My phone connects just fine.) This is the only other thing I can think of. Anyone else got other ideas?
---------- Post added at 01:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:08 PM ----------
Well tried it and phone still not discovered by the PC. I am at a loss at what to do. I know my friend tried to install some type of rom to it and didn't make a backup. It boots in to CWM non-stop and I can flash zips but it never leaves that loop even after the flashes. I can boot into Download mode but the phone won't be recognized. Tried both Odin and this. The phone is getting charged through the cable though which confuses me even more. Any help?!

Use a different cable with odin... it may be charging it but its not getting a data connection... also put into download mode and plug in usb... then "jiggle" the cord until it recognizes it...

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Then also try Odin with the battery and phone plugged in. Make sure you use a better cable than stock.
On the Epic (SPH-D700), is it possible to flash a full modem (not a patch file) using CWM?
What I have in mind is over in the Epic Touch forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397954
I've also looked into Mobile ODIN, but there's no EPIC4G support (yet).

I'm searching for a way to reflash EL30 through CWM. (I've been searching for a few days now.) Thanks.

NO. It is not possible to access the modem section of our phone through flashing. The best we can do is flash a delta of the modem provided by Samsung. You would need to be on the required modem, in this case EC05 and there are flashables to add the delta to get you to EI22 and EL30. Our only method is Odin or Heimdall to change the modem.
Thanks for your reply. That's what I thought, but the info I found about the Epic Touch and Mobile Odin gave me some hope. Are my current options to wait for a new delta for CWM (and hope it fixes the problem) or visit a Sprint store for either exchange or repair? I'm tech saavy enough to get my hands dirty (hardware and software), so throw me every DIY option there is. lol

Okay
Odin/Heimdall is not an option for me at the moment. I had written why in the OP, but it seems to have been removed or I accidentally deleted it before posting. (Late night)

And you are on the EL30 now and think that it is bad?
If they release a new update it should contain a new delta but those are big "ifs". You need to get the USB issue working with Odin.

Yes and yes (a big if). Before flashing the EL30 modem using ODIN, my Epic was using the EI22 modem and the latest CleanGB Rom (MTD). I experienced no problems with this setup. After flashing the EL30 modem, the LED no longer works and the USB port doesn't work. (It will charge the phone, but it is not recognized as a media drive or by Odin/Heimdall when in download mode. Yes, I even tried Linux+Heimdall )
I have a second Epic4G which works flawlessly with EL30. I flashed the second Epic with the same EL30 modem file, so I know the file, the cable, drivers, etc are OK. For my first Epic, if the modem flash wasn't what caused the problem, then it may have been an hour or two after flashing the modem when I was tinkering by overwriting a system apk file (video enabled Gtalk apk). However, I have wiped clean and reinstalled CleanGB ROM using CWM and the problem still exists, so I doubt that caused the problem unless overwriting system files has some risk of corrupting different partitions.
I too have 2 Epics. One would connect and the other would not on a Gingerbread leak in mass storage. After Odins and reflashes it turned out to be bad drivers even though the other phone connected. So try reinstalling the drivers and just for kicks try a different cable and also try to connect to Odin with the battery out using the USB as power and putting it into download mode.

Good suggestions, however, I've already tried three different cables (The third cable is new and high quality), tried different USB ports on my PC (no hubs), tried different PCs, with/without battery in download mode, and I have reinstalled the drivers. (tried both 32 bit and 64 bit in Win7 Ultimate; no need for special drivers in Linux.) I will try all of this again when I have the time. Why would drivers work on one Epic but not another? Are Samsung phones known to have bad quality control? (voltage levels, etc should be within a certain tolerance.) My two Epics were bought new a month apart and the hardware versions are the same.

I racked my brain on the "why one should work and not the other" connecting. That is why I didn't try the drivers for days. Yes each phone can be that radically different. It looks like you covered all the bases. That only leaves possible dirt in your cable slot. You can also try restoring an old nandroid to see if that makes it start working.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Yes the voltage in download mode is different it could be the port on the epic is dirty or needs to be replaced. I forget the exact amount but if its not the exact voltage the pc won't recognise it nor will odin.

A nandroid restore didn't fix the problem. As a reminder, the LED also stopped working, so I'm not entirely convinced it is a physical problem such as a bad or dirty usb port. (If it helps, I found that the LED works for notifications but no longer lights while charging the phone.)

I put cm 10.1 on it as soon as I took it out of the box. I was not impressed (which surprised me), multiple force closes, phone not responding sometimes, and the mic stopped working during calls if the screen turned off.
So, I re-flashed stock GB via odin one-click and then let it OTA up to FL27. Now I want to get JB back on it but I've tried both odin and kies to do this but neither work. After flashing via odin (several different attempts) it always just bootloops. Kies will not even connect to the phone anymore. First it was saying "Unable to connect to SPH-D710. Failed to retrieve device information." and then it told me to restart it a couple of times and now its saying the first one again. I have tried the troubleshooting thing a couple of times, that did nothing.
You may have to go back to stock unrooted. I don't believe Kies will update your phone if it's rooted. Someone please let me know otherwise if I'm mistaken, but I remember when jb source dropped, everyone had to go back to stock to get the update. Good luck!

Either your usb cable is broke, your usb port is broke, or you need to use a different port on the computer.

Hey guys... Need some help if anyone can share an idea.
I installed a stock based ROM from the Android Development section which is based off of Boost Mobile.
I didnt think it was the actual carrier.
Anyway, when I connect my phone to the computer to try and Odin a Recovery Kernal, the COM Port does not
connect and I keep getting an error message saying "Unknown Device". The Samsung Drivers are installed for this phone.
I tried multiple computers and USB cords, same thing happens. Has something went wrong with my USB Connector?
If I can get some kind of response from Odin I would be okay. Not sure what to try next. The only good thing is I can still make
calls and have a network connection to Sprint.
I wanted to restore my last ROM saved, but cant get into a custom recovery.
I guess thats about it. OHH... I tried Mobile Odin and it says the "Version of your phone is not supported" and tried to
do something for 30 minutes to try to fix the issue but that doesnt work. It just closes. Yes, i thought that was going to be my savior....
Can anyone help me out? Thanks!!!
Oh man.. thought I almost had it. I was able to connect to the COM Port. However, when I try to flash the Kernal I always use
(thanks chris41g) it gets stuck as "Setup Connection"
Then fails...
Any thoughts?
Try a different port. Make sure it is not a front USB port. If that fails, try a different cable.

I tried today, connected phone to work computer and I had success in flashing my EL26 CWM Kernal.
Now for some reason I cannot access CWM.
Im stuck on the boot screen. When I hold volume up and Power it just reboots and shows the Samsung Logo.
Usually it will show the logo then go right into CWM. Somethings screwed up here. Do I need a special Kernel installed in order to
access CWM since I flashed this Boost Mobile ROM? The phone acts like it doesnt exist. Should I try to flash a stock rom then re-root/re-cwm
my phone again? That seems like the long way but I dont know any other option to try. Get back to me! Thanks!
Im in!!! CWM to the rescue! Once I was able to connect to my COM Port, I tried flashing the EL26 + EL29 Kernel which I normally use but could not access CWM. I downloaded and flashed AGat's FI27 Repack 2.0 One Click and that got me in! I am so happy and I had such a fun time trying to figure this one out! Couldn't have done it without you guys! Thanks Much!
