Is there any software to close a program by pressing X? I mean really closing, i dont want to keep it working in background.
Thanks!
For 6.5.x you can try uTask. Search in xda.
For 6.5 you can try htc task manager...Again search for it in xda
Try ameba http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583002, great app that has more functions too.
i use wktask, its like an alt-tab application.
search xda

Hope my little input could help to prevent it from playing just only 3 to 4 seconds.
I am using Helmi AKU3.5 v1.3 now, but from all the threads, it seems to be a common problem in many versions of the ROM.
For my situation, normally immediately after soft reset, WMP plays with no problem.
There is a little Apps inside Helmi AKU3.5 v1.3 called "Close Apps". This problem will come 100% after I run "Close Apps" to regain memory.
To prevent it and to avoid recovery reset, I will only run 'Close Apps" with WMP still runnning.
My guess is "Close Apps" clear something important for WMP.
Let us know if there is another way to reproduce the problem.
Re
hey!!
i don't know bout this problem but i had a similar problem with the " close app" application in the 3.3 rom
when i tried to run ie after running this app it would automatically close after loading the page (not the homepage).
P.S Since you have crossbow installed could u do me a favour??? i wanted to see how a couple of themes i have made look in crossbow...if i send you one of them could you send me the screenshot???
Hi guys.
Actually I do not use WMP almost at all because I prefer other players, so I never experienced this problem but....
I suggest you to use oxios hibernate instead of closeapps. Hibernate does not close any running apps but releases ram which can be still occupied after a closed app. Besides hibernate I often check the hidden processes with iTaskmanager (part of Helmi's ROMs but you can get it separately) and often found that there are some processes useless at the moment e.g. voicecmd.exe (can eat 2 megs) poutlook, tmail, etc.
I guess if you use hibernate you will avoid 3 sec problem of WMP... not 100% sure...

My is AKU3.5, not crossbow.
The crossbow theme does not look too good, as I do not like dirty green colour, reminds me of the army uniform.
There is quite a couple of screen shots already in this forum, just search and you see plenty.
To have crossbow look, you do not need to install crossbow, search again it this forum, you will find some crossbow *.tsk files. copy it into the \windows directory and you can select it in the Today.

Thanks, I will try.
But 'close app' way to produce this problem may not be the only way.
Looks like I do not see this problem after using Hibernate.
I use the HTC Task Manager provided in Jwrights 2.06/08 Crossbow ROM and it works really well... I have seen posts about this problem and it does seem to be the ''close app" that causes the issue.
???
So far I am always having to go into taskman to shut all the apps down. That is a major pain in the bum!!!!!!!
Is there something im missing or is there a app where I can just hit the end key and it will shut it down???
oxios close tasks is free and closes everything with one click.
i think you can set up celetask with a hotkey to close an app you are in but then you have to leave celetask running. i just go in and close apps every once in awhile.
Task Manager
Start > Task Manager
Press "2"
There should be an application to stop services like My5Service and SMSCReceiver and other services from starting that are not required.
Anyone know of such an app or can anyone make one?
JAmerican
try searching the registry for them and remove them
I use AE Buttons plus to map keys to certain things, it works on the Q so it should work on excalibur. I have one key that I press and hold (my email key) and that closes the active application.. kills it that is.
Hey everybody, thanks for all the feedback. Im very new to the ppc and smartphone world so Im still learning, Are smartphones like symbian where if ya leave the app open they stay running and drain the battery and slow everything down?
Isn't the CloseAll app a crossover app fromthe PPC. I thought it worked on the smart phones ?

Hello,
I'm interested in finding out if there's a registry key that controls the feature of Windows Mobile that closes programs to conserve RAM? I'd rather manage my own.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Matt
I think there is not that a key existed. but lots of softwares can do it. like htc x button, spb pocket plus......
I just went from the stock T-Mo ROM to one of the 6.5.3 ROMS here on XDA. On 6.5, I remember there was a setting where you could choose from pressing the X or pressing and holding to close applications. On 6.5.3, I can't find anything similar. I press the X to close the application, only to have to open a task manager and close it that way. If anyone has the solution, or can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful!
A week or two ago I read about people using a cab called Ameba so that the X would make you exit the program. Search that and see what you can come up with. It should be what youre looking for.
EDIT: Found the site with this cab on it.

Yes, AMeBa works very well...for me, anyway. Some ROM cooks build it into their WM6.5.3/5 product.
Here's the XDA thread all about AMeBa:
[APP] AMeBa: Adapting Menu Bar for WM6.5.x [v0.7.1beta - 26/Jan/2010]
Thanks guys, I knew it had to be here on XDA somewhere! (I swear, I searched!)

Go to SETTINGS / SYSTEM / TASK MANAGER. There should be a tab for "Button". But I believe this is only found on ROMs that were originally taken from official HTC ROMS; it is an HTC feature, not WM (IIRC).
...it's driving me absolutely CRAZY! My applications quit all the time when I move away from them.
Example:
I start up my phone (cold boot)
I open up Opera and go to a web page (google/m, for example)
I hit the Windows key and go open another application (like OneNote)
I hit the Windows key and I click on the Opera icon, and instead of opening the running app, the app has already quit and it's reopening from scratch...and I've lost my place
This is happening for all of my applications, and it's really frustrating when using something like Office Communicator for work. I need to be online in the Office Communicator IM application, but it keeps quitting the app! I check task manager, and it seems like the device can only run one app at a time...even though my memory isn't full (the RAM or storage).
I've reset my phone back to factory defaults with Windows Mobile 6.5 already to see if it had anything to do with an installed app.
...any ideas??

I would use the taskmanager (in the top right on your taskbar) to go back to open apps, it will bring them back up whereever you left off. Hitting the icon in the start menu runs the app again, so it's not unusual that it wipes whatever you were doing when that happens
Sorry...wrong answer!
Sorry, but you're incorrect in your evaluation and statements.
First of all, Windows Mobile 6.5 doesn't have that drop-down. There's a CAB file that has been posted which installs that function.ality again, but that's not part the problem. I originally had the cab installed when I flashed with the new version of WM, because I like that functionality, but I thought that it actually might be the culprit so I uninstalled it, and then ended up wiping my device clean because it didn't help.
Second of all, "clicking" an application that's running in the background does *not* restart the app or force it to quit/refresh. Clicking on the shortcut to a running app brings up the currently running instance of the app (try it out for yourself). To show this, open a game or app, then hit the "end" hard button to take you back to the home screen, and click on the app's icon. Should always take you back to the running app (unless the app quits in the meantime, as with my situation listed above)
Let me explain again:
- I click on an app and it opens (let's use IE Mobile for example)
- I open task manager and see my first app running
- I hit the "end" key, or the Windows key and open another app
- I open task manager, and my first app has quit, leaving only my second app
(you can omit the two steps of opening task manager, and it still happens)
I can replicate this again and again.
Another example:
- I open an e-mail with a link in it
- I click on the link, and it opens in Opera
- I click the "x" in the upper right (quick-tap) to "minimize" Opera
- The e-mail is now closed, and the messaging app has quit. Opera is all that's left
What rom are you using? Stock WM6.5 + Sense 2.5?
It closes your apps even if your memory isn't full. Thats "normal" WM behavior.
Install Advanced Configuration Tool, go to HTC Task Manager -> Disable Auto Kill.
Now let's take care of the WM closing "feature":
http://www.chainfire.eu/#/articles/68/AutoClosePatch_1_1_released/
Download and install Close Patch by Chainfire. I suggest that you install Ultra settings too.
PS If you are running a stock ROM of course I would recommend that you install a rom from one of great chiefs found here on xda. The roms have better memory management.
How much ram do you have available? Opera is a big memory hog and will quit if there isn't sufficient memory.
For multitasking i search for "spb alttab" a small cab you can install and everytime you open it, a box pops up with all the icons of open apps. Then i use Rhodium Keyboard Config to link the PTT button to the alttab app which makes multitasking painfully simple.
Maybe you should try that just incase your "tap-x to minimize" setting isn't holding.

thanks so much for pointing me towards the close patch. trying it out now. sounds great. i have been having the same issues as described above even on custom roms (that don't even have htc task manager). but the 6.5.x roms that i like do have less free ram. i will try to post back in a day and say how it is working for me.
You're welcome
I had the same problem and installing chainfires patch seems to have fixed the problem.
Many thanks,
