Just a quick question. I previously had a rom on my Hermes with a particular task manager that I'd like to put back on the phone. However, I can't remember what the task manager was called.
I think it was included as part of one of Schap's ROMs and had the functionality whereby you could tap top right on the today screen and the programme would pop up showing a line top right for each running programme with a red x button on the right enabling task switching or closing from here.
If anyone can tell me which task manager this is, I would be most appreciative.
That is HTC X-Button.
Thank you very much.
EDIT: Actually that doesn't seem to be it.
Any other suggestions?
it's the latest version of X-button
HTC X-button became HTC Task manager. I think it's version 2.xx
You need to dig it up and find it.
look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344533
I belive this is the cab: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=58146&d=1195041040
Schap's 4.30 thread lists "Task Manager 2.0.31249.1", and that (2_0_31261_1) is the closest match. If that's not what are you looking for, specify better.
And exercise your search skills, all that was found in 10 minutes.
nanastas, mine's newer!
That's it! Thanks very much.
And I did search, but it's hard to do when you're not exactly sure what the programme is called, and there are lots of task managers around. I spent nigh on an hour installing things and removing them before I asked for help.
10 minutes?
ah- that's the reason. I spent less than 30 seconds linking to that thread in Dev&Hacking.
Yours is newer, but mine is probably bigger.....
I thought someone should start a thread Window Mobile phone series because there is very little community discussion about them. They run off the 6.1 pro version. I personally have had a some success modifying my Traveler 127. i installed M2D in landscape mode thanks to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488017 the only problem with the install with that i had to use Manila2D 1.00.1819.2926 build to get the interface itself to run but other than that, its great. i can't remember where i got that build but i still have the file and can upload if needed. But anyways I think these are great phones and with everyones help I'm sure they can be even better.
I really can't be the only person with one of these phones, can I?

Well unfortunately i have no idea how to cook ROM's, I'm really hoping by starting this thread that it will catch the eye of someone who can, also the more people that see this thread, the more people that may responed with new ideas, programs and interfaces that they have got to work on their Traveler.
The more we talk the more this thread stays on the first page of the forum and everyone gets to see it.
So thanks for replying, by the way what Programs or Interfaces have you tried on your Traveler 117
Hey buddy,
Actually, I didn't start to handle deeply this traveler.. I am really waiting for some good news about the resources to cook a new rom for it.. because I really don't like this current WM version.
If someone reads this and have access to this information, please post here.
Regards,
you should really the M2D interface i posted. I wasn't at all impressed with SPB Mobile Shell that came with my Traveler 127. So after about two weeks of hunting and trail and error (obviously not every second was dedicated to finding this, i do have to work for a living) I forund M2D interface (HTC Homescreen interface) which acts as a Today Screen Plugin for our WM6.1 pro devices. It's really slick and works with error. I also found an "touch and sweep" type that works with our devices that allows you to scroll like the iphone rather than using the scroll bar itself. I can post this as well if anyone is interested.
Cheers

you the key gen to generate serial and activate the shell.

SPB mobile shell is alright but I just find there are too many steps involved in simple operations. I have infact tried a registered copy of spb mobile shell 3.0 and still too many steps. that's why I use the M2D interface, fewer steps.
What I would really like is for someone to cook a WM6.5 ROM for these phones.
Cheers
I just bought a Pharos Traveler 137 and have already installed the Topaz Comm Manager onto it. I had to change the following registry key after installing it to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > HTC > Comm Manager > WLAN > DeviceName=98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\UFMP1
I'd really like to find out how similar the device is to HTC devices as far as hardware and ROM similarity is concerned. I'm experiencing some skipping during playback of MP3s that wasn't cured by performing a hard reset. It would be nice to fix that.
Cook a rom for Pharos Travler
Anyone get extract the files from official Pharos rom to cook a WM6.5 rom?
There has to be more than three of us with these phones, come guys start talking!
Have had my 137 for just over a week and it seems to be a good phone but the old bugbear of BT voice dialling not working is here. Problem is MS Voice command can be activated by pressing your BT headset but the audio is sent to the device, not the headset. Anyone have any ideas to get it working?
ROM update
Pharos released a new ROM update yesterday. it is the same 20778 build of wm with a Pharos build date date of 6/25/09. not seeing a lot of changes, the double tap effect with single press is still present and it has been reported the blue tooth and voice dial problem still exist. hopefully now that a rom has been released for download someone will start thinking about cooking for the device. first we need HARD SPL!!!
FYI: A mod for Pharos stated in the Pharos Forum that they are NOT curently working on release of 6.5 for any traveler device. i hope this was some sort of mistake.

hey superman4545,
I am also looking for different options and I'm interested in your findings. If you could post them would be great. particularly curious of the "touch and sweep" option you mentioned. I myself have been using FTouchSL.
A couple of things I've installed...
1. touchpal keyboard (best word suggestion and correction options I've tried to date landscapemode is not the greatest could be larger)
2. PHMregedit
3. Opera 9.7 beta
4. s2u2 latest build found unlocking works smoother when on rawbuffer instead of direct draw but don't take my word as written in stone.
5. pandora with the "vga fix" (this could still use a lot of work but glad it plays)
6. garmin xt
7. total commander
8. FTouchSL
scrolling
i have attached htc scroll. after install navigate in the registry to HKCU\ControlPanel\Gestures\Touch\Disabled and set Decimal value to 0 and soft reset. now you will have htc kinetic scrolling that will not interfere with other programs such as pointui, mobile shell 3 of TF3D.

Here you go, first download this build of the M2D interface http://rapidshare.com/files/149919545/Manila2D_1.00_1819.2926-xplode.CAB then just follow the instructions on the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488017 But do not replace Backup file and do not do the reset defaults, and finally only install the rapidshare build, audio manager, album manage, and M2D config otherwise the interface will not loadand use these files and you should have no problems with the HTC M2D interface.
Enjoy!

Just wondering if this ROM update was for the Traveler 137?
Glad to see a thread here on this phone
I have had my Pharos 137 just about 24 hours now. What a *quirky* phone. I'm just starting to customize it a bit. Anyone else seen weird interactions with bluetooth accessories? It seems to have crashed my BT stereo headphones - they won't shut off or interact with anything, am waiting for the battery to die so I can recharge and see. (FWIW they're cheap Best Buy house brand - Insignia)
Pandora will work on this phone. A bit challenging to get it installed, still haven't figured out a graceful way to shut it down. Very cool having 3g speed for Slingplayer Mobile.
superman4545,
yes, the updated rom is for the Pharos Traveler 137.

One quick question for ya jlavoie...or anyone that might know for that matter
the scrolling works great for everything except when reading a message in outlook I can scroll through inbox and other folders but not on messages themselves any ideas? I haven't found any reference to this in particular.
Using Pharos 137 btw...
thanks again!
Hi All,
First of all BRILLIANT website ... keep the good work up guys ... please bear with me with a few question that i have no idea about. Thought i'd put this all in one thread rather than 4 different ones:
1) Does it actually matter which cab file (i don't know what you call it ExtRom? please let me know what exactly you call it so it's easier for me to search for in the future) to use with which version of OS? Currently i'm on WM6.5 Build 23004 WWE R7.1 and i think i downloaded some can file from WM6.1 or something
2) Where can i find TouchFlo for WM6.5 Build 23004 WWE R7.1?
3) I installed the HTC Manila2d on my XDA iis but can not seem to find it any where, do i need to install something else besides this to be able to view the application
4) Most of the time when the backlight goes off on my XDA IIs, i press the power button to bring the screen back up only to find that the screen has gone white and then i have to reset my XDA a couple of times ... to get it working i have to make sure that i'm constantly working on some app for a good few minutes before i leave the screen light to go off
Would appreciate if you can help me with this. Many thanks in advance.
1. yes it most certainly does. if you had upgraded to wm6.1 and tried an extrom of wm6.5 you would probably be disappointed that some of the programs like internet explorer, office or wm6.5 specific stuff wouldn't work. the extrom is a bunch of cabs to install certain programs after a hard reset. that's why you should have a look inside the extrom and maybe google some of the cab names and decide, whether you relly need them or not. for example, if you never use java, mss, or pdf documents, leave jbed, arcsoft and adobe reader out of the extrom and save a lot of space on your device. in general, the rom chef gives a link to the extrom, fitting the rom best, but i think the last official extrom, released by a chef was with xplode's 21202. that is the one you want to take for the newest internet explorer and office and other useful stuff.
2. what? touchflo in general means... nothing. there are 3 aspects of touchflo: touchflo3d (=Manila2d), touchflo cube and sometimes touchflo is also referred to, when it comes to finger friendlyness and touch scrolling.
to be short, the touch scrolling is always on in wm6.5 and it is also quite finger friendly. about the rest... forget it.
3. you know, manila 2d is sooo 2008
manila2d is, as you might know, opticly comparable to an animated version of htc home with a bunch of extra features, and also, like htc home (or the above mentioned touchflo cube) it is improving the today screen of wm6 and wm6.1 devices. it might also work on wm6.5, but for that to be even remotely possible, you have to lose the titanium home (default today screen plugin of wm6.5, with the sliding and all...) so go to start->settings->today->items and unselect windows default and then manila might work for you, which still begs the question:
why would you want manila when you can have titanium?
manila is slow & outdated (if you ever even get it to work, most versions won't do on the BA), while titanium is new, modern, highly customizable, hip, trendy and most important of all, works extremely fast on the BA.
4. ok, assuming that you already checked the backlight and power settings, that leaves a few other things to check:
- does it also do the white screen, if you press the power button in the first place, to switch it off and then turn back on?
- did you do anything in the upgrade process differing from "the book"?
- did you try a hard reset? if you just upgraded, you have nothing to lose?
even more stuff would come to mind, but first post back if any of the things are done so far.

Chef_Tony
Hi Chef Tony, mate honestly i really do appreciate taking your time and explaining this what was once all french to me. Ok i totally get the idea of ExtRoms and Cab file. So assuming that if i use one of the 6.1 cab files on a 6.5 it should work correct?
Apparently i downloaded Manila2D from this forum, installed it but that didn't work ... i went to start->settings->today->items and unselect windows default and but it comes up as blank screen (home screen) and also i could see TouchFlo as an option and when i select that it takes me back to the home screen saying "Tap here to activate TouchFlo", no matter how many times i tap, nothing happens. So correct me when i say this, this TouchFlo which was showing up on the options is actually a Manila2D app right? I saw a video last night on youtube which said TouchFlo on XDAiis (sorry but can't find the exact link to it) and it looked something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJFBifvgSgA i mean the interface and the screen tapping.
As far as the screen is concerned, it never used to do this but since i've upgraded to 6.5 it has started to. I followed the exact same process what the book said because i'm the sort of a person who follows the book and nothing besides that ... besides i've hard rest it as well but that still did not help. Ok here's what happens (i think), when the device is battery powered, it will white screen when the device is not used for a few minutes (sleep mode or whatever you may call it) but it does not happen when it's on external power because it's always on any way.
in general an extrom from wm6.1 would work on wm6.5 flawlessly. but as mentioned before, the versions of the internet explorer and office changed dramatically. you should include the newer cabs there.
this tap here to activate touchflo is exactly the manila, and normally it should start up then, but as mentioned before, there is no guarantee, every version would work with the BA, but i had a version once, that worked in general, it was just a little slow and some features wouldn't work, which is perfectly normal. you should have a look at this thread and maybe try the versions given there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340932&highlight=iolite
also you'll find other neat stuff there.
if you really want manila as your GUI, maybe you should try a nice wm6 or wm6.1 rom, because manila is really sucking cpu and ram, and with most wm6.5 roms those resources are optimized for titanium and even with titanium switched off, they just consume more hardware than wm6.1 for instance. it will run better then.
but your last sentence there is confusing me. what exactly do you mean, when you say white screen? is it actually showing all white, with backlight, or is it more like the display is off, a pale grey without backlight? if it is the first option, it seems there is actually a tiny problem there, could be together with manila, back in the day, when i ran it, i experienced sort of a third boot splash screen with manila installed and the device would take forever to boot up, soft resets were a major buzzkill then.
if it is the 2nd option, then it is perfectly normal and you can go to start->settings->system->power and set the device to never switch off on battery power, but instead just switch off the backlight.
last but not least (ok, i should have written this above): the video you posted!
the first 48 seconds don't show any manila stuff, that is called s2u2, slide 2 unlock a keylock app, you can download for free, from another forum member here, called A_C, on his site here: http://s2u2.ac-s2.com/ (all credit to A_C)
i wouldn't exactly count on the photo and video function to work on a BA either, as shown about 1:20
at 1:50 the youtube app is not part of manila either, but you can download something like that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385227 or the official one here: http://help.youtube.com/support/youtube/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=20991
i really wonder what the last app was, he showed, since i don't have sound at the moment, i can't tell whether he mentions it maybe, but probably doesn't matter anyway, because you are not looking for a paint clone, but for a nice GUI
hope this could bring you a little bit further in getting your device customized. let me know, whether everything worked out as planned.
Chef_Tony
Hi Chef Tony,
Trying Titanium on Xplode's v7.1 but cannot get my normal Today plugins selected - Pocket Breeze, Device lock, Comms, and a Programme Bar.
Is there an easy way to do this? (In M2D customisation you can set the Today page plugins...)
Thanks.
the titanium blocks everything else.
when you go to start->settings->today->items you see, by default, there is a list of a lot of plugins, but the only one that is checked is the titanium home, there called "Windows Default" for instance date and time is unchecked, which does not mean, you don't see the time in your today screen as a clock is also part of titanium. if you decide to work with m2d or other normal today plugins, you need to uncheck Windows default and then you will have access to the old today screen with the static, yet small, list of items. and then you have the opportunity to use all your today plugins. if you want to use titanium home and have plugins for that look for "titanium plugins" or "chome plugins".
and the plugins of titanium can be monitored, sorted and (de-)activated in "titanizer"
all those things in " " can be found in the forum, just have a look in development & hacking section or use the forum search
I just upgraded my Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 to WM 6.5 and have the following questions:
1) With WM 6.1 there used to be a pulldown button in the top right corner of the screen that would allow you to see what applications where running and to close anything that were no longer needed. This is no longer available in WM 6.5, can anyone tell me how to see what applications are currently running on my phone with WM 6.5?
2) With WM 6.1 when selecting my Favorite Contacts I was given an option to Call, email, text the person. Now with 6.5 it immediately calls the individual without giving any other options. Since I text most of the time this feature is really missed.
I'm sure these can be solved by changing some option in my phone, if anyone could help me out it would be appreciated.
unfortunately thats not fixable. the new sense 2.5 is designed that way (poorly imo). I switched back to tf3d and 6.1 for various reasons; this being one of them.
I have the T-Mobile version.
1) The item is still there, just with a different style. (This could be T-Mobile only).
2) Click on the icon on the far right side of the item.
well two things that can be fixed
1 . little drop down was the task manager so just install this program and itll be back
2 . when you click to add the contact to favorites select view contact card and that will give you the options every time you click on that person .
tseidel you are The Man!
I was just about to ask cirrob how to go back to 6.1 (not at all relishing reinstalling all my apps). cirrob bummer on you having to reinstall 6.1.
So tseidel does the cab just change a registry entry?
The Favorite fix isn't quite as slick as 6.1 but infinitely better than nothing.
Thanks again!
no actually it adds the old task manager thats y if you go to programs task manger it looks dif but its serves the same purpose
6.5 has many quirky issues. Of all the cooked ROMs I've tried, the official T-Mobile 6.1 was the fastest, most stable, most memory, and most functional of them all. I'm currently using T-Mobile 6.5 as it gets better battery life, location based weather (which I like) and is very stable, but has less RAM and ugly backgrounds.
But I also miss the option for two numbers available on each favorite, the old default keyboard (you had to use a stylus with), and the recently opened programs in the start menu. Now I have to scroll through a million icons if I can't fit the program on my prog tab.
1- Install "Dutty's Task Manager" and you have back old button for task
huh.....
Im running 6.5 and i have the task manager in top right....
go to settings->system->task manager->then one of the tabs. cant remember and phones battery dead so cant be bothered to find out.
its in the somewhere though

This is unnecessarily complicated, since it forces you to choose the contact method every single time.
The correct solution is to do it exactly as in 6.1 and select the preferred contact method for each favorite. When you want to use a different method, tap on the grey name area below the contact picture instead of on the contact picture itself. That will pop up the contact card and allow you pick from among all available contact methods.

I'd be pretty surprised if you're running the official Sprint WM 6.5 ROM, from which this has, in fact, been removed.
It's not hard to install a replacement, but doing so is required in order to get the Task Manager back on this ROM.
THX
to tseidel also... I tried all the 'higher' numbered ones and none worked (on Rho SEA WM6.5 update) but this one!!
I use wk task manager which i found here on xda. it is great I am surprised nobody uses it. I covers the top bar and has little icons of all the programs running. you can click on it to open the program. or you can touch and hold and have a bunch of options. it will take a little playing around to figure out all the options. it also comes with a program launcher that you swipe the screen to bring up. I dont use that feature because I use spb mobile shell which has a great launcer that is completely customizable.
...it's driving me absolutely CRAZY! My applications quit all the time when I move away from them.
Example:
I start up my phone (cold boot)
I open up Opera and go to a web page (google/m, for example)
I hit the Windows key and go open another application (like OneNote)
I hit the Windows key and I click on the Opera icon, and instead of opening the running app, the app has already quit and it's reopening from scratch...and I've lost my place
This is happening for all of my applications, and it's really frustrating when using something like Office Communicator for work. I need to be online in the Office Communicator IM application, but it keeps quitting the app! I check task manager, and it seems like the device can only run one app at a time...even though my memory isn't full (the RAM or storage).
I've reset my phone back to factory defaults with Windows Mobile 6.5 already to see if it had anything to do with an installed app.
...any ideas??

I would use the taskmanager (in the top right on your taskbar) to go back to open apps, it will bring them back up whereever you left off. Hitting the icon in the start menu runs the app again, so it's not unusual that it wipes whatever you were doing when that happens
Sorry...wrong answer!
Sorry, but you're incorrect in your evaluation and statements.
First of all, Windows Mobile 6.5 doesn't have that drop-down. There's a CAB file that has been posted which installs that function.ality again, but that's not part the problem. I originally had the cab installed when I flashed with the new version of WM, because I like that functionality, but I thought that it actually might be the culprit so I uninstalled it, and then ended up wiping my device clean because it didn't help.
Second of all, "clicking" an application that's running in the background does *not* restart the app or force it to quit/refresh. Clicking on the shortcut to a running app brings up the currently running instance of the app (try it out for yourself). To show this, open a game or app, then hit the "end" hard button to take you back to the home screen, and click on the app's icon. Should always take you back to the running app (unless the app quits in the meantime, as with my situation listed above)
Let me explain again:
- I click on an app and it opens (let's use IE Mobile for example)
- I open task manager and see my first app running
- I hit the "end" key, or the Windows key and open another app
- I open task manager, and my first app has quit, leaving only my second app
(you can omit the two steps of opening task manager, and it still happens)
I can replicate this again and again.
Another example:
- I open an e-mail with a link in it
- I click on the link, and it opens in Opera
- I click the "x" in the upper right (quick-tap) to "minimize" Opera
- The e-mail is now closed, and the messaging app has quit. Opera is all that's left
What rom are you using? Stock WM6.5 + Sense 2.5?
It closes your apps even if your memory isn't full. Thats "normal" WM behavior.
Install Advanced Configuration Tool, go to HTC Task Manager -> Disable Auto Kill.
Now let's take care of the WM closing "feature":

Download and install Close Patch by Chainfire. I suggest that you install Ultra settings too.
PS If you are running a stock ROM of course I would recommend that you install a rom from one of great chiefs found here on xda. The roms have better memory management.
How much ram do you have available? Opera is a big memory hog and will quit if there isn't sufficient memory.
For multitasking i search for "spb alttab" a small cab you can install and everytime you open it, a box pops up with all the icons of open apps. Then i use Rhodium Keyboard Config to link the PTT button to the alttab app which makes multitasking painfully simple.
Maybe you should try that just incase your "tap-x to minimize" setting isn't holding.

What rom are you using? Stock WM6.5 + Sense 2.5?
It closes your apps even if your memory isn't full. Thats "normal" WM behavior.
Install Advanced Configuration Tool, go to HTC Task Manager -> Disable Auto Kill.
Now let's take care of the WM closing "feature":

thanks so much for pointing me towards the close patch. trying it out now. sounds great. i have been having the same issues as described above even on custom roms (that don't even have htc task manager). but the 6.5.x roms that i like do have less free ram. i will try to post back in a day and say how it is working for me.
You're welcome
I had the same problem and installing chainfires patch seems to have fixed the problem.
Many thanks,
