Just a quick question. I previously had a rom on my Hermes with a particular task manager that I'd like to put back on the phone. However, I can't remember what the task manager was called.
I think it was included as part of one of Schap's ROMs and had the functionality whereby you could tap top right on the today screen and the programme would pop up showing a line top right for each running programme with a red x button on the right enabling task switching or closing from here.
If anyone can tell me which task manager this is, I would be most appreciative.
That is HTC X-Button.
Thank you very much.
EDIT: Actually that doesn't seem to be it.
Any other suggestions?
it's the latest version of X-button
HTC X-button became HTC Task manager. I think it's version 2.xx
You need to dig it up and find it.
look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344533
I belive this is the cab: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=58146&d=1195041040
Schap's 4.30 thread lists "Task Manager 2.0.31249.1", and that (2_0_31261_1) is the closest match. If that's not what are you looking for, specify better.
And exercise your search skills, all that was found in 10 minutes.
nanastas, mine's newer!
That's it! Thanks very much.
And I did search, but it's hard to do when you're not exactly sure what the programme is called, and there are lots of task managers around. I spent nigh on an hour installing things and removing them before I asked for help.
10 minutes?
ah- that's the reason. I spent less than 30 seconds linking to that thread in Dev&Hacking.
Yours is newer, but mine is probably bigger.....

My Dash can only run one java app at a time. Is there an alternative midlet manager that runs one app in the front and suspends others?
My old i930 (WM2003) is very convenient on this regard: I can switch from gmail to operamini without having to close/restart the other.
I have tried all the midlet manager I could find, but none of them work on Dash.
Currently I am using the trial version of IBM's WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment without any problems.
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/wireless/weme/
First thank you very much for the info.
However, what a waste of time. Had to download a 45MB file, only to find that 4MB is what I need. It is very inconvenient to install and use. Very buggy too. Cannot even suspend and restore a single app, forget about running one and suspending the other(s).
Much worse than the built-in manager.
Am I missing something?
Even my old wm2003 smartphone can run couple java apps at the same time, why the latest WM6 cannot?
Again, thank you for the info.
See http://www.pxdxa.com/read.php?tid=36130 for a complete list of a lot of other Smartphone-compliant JVM's.
I'll publish a BIG roundup of all these JVM's some time.
Interesting, I had tried all the 6, and many more, but none of them worked on my Dash. I thought it was because of WM6, so I flashed it back to WM5, same thing!
Coretek is a mess, all I get is a tiny window that does not show the apps installed.
Esmertrc, Jeodek and Tao are basically the same thing, like the one in Dash.
JBlendFullScreen is different, but the keys are totally messed up.
Hi All,
First of all BRILLIANT website ... keep the good work up guys ... please bear with me with a few question that i have no idea about. Thought i'd put this all in one thread rather than 4 different ones:
1) Does it actually matter which cab file (i don't know what you call it ExtRom? please let me know what exactly you call it so it's easier for me to search for in the future) to use with which version of OS? Currently i'm on WM6.5 Build 23004 WWE R7.1 and i think i downloaded some can file from WM6.1 or something
2) Where can i find TouchFlo for WM6.5 Build 23004 WWE R7.1?
3) I installed the HTC Manila2d on my XDA iis but can not seem to find it any where, do i need to install something else besides this to be able to view the application
4) Most of the time when the backlight goes off on my XDA IIs, i press the power button to bring the screen back up only to find that the screen has gone white and then i have to reset my XDA a couple of times ... to get it working i have to make sure that i'm constantly working on some app for a good few minutes before i leave the screen light to go off
Would appreciate if you can help me with this. Many thanks in advance.
1. yes it most certainly does. if you had upgraded to wm6.1 and tried an extrom of wm6.5 you would probably be disappointed that some of the programs like internet explorer, office or wm6.5 specific stuff wouldn't work. the extrom is a bunch of cabs to install certain programs after a hard reset. that's why you should have a look inside the extrom and maybe google some of the cab names and decide, whether you relly need them or not. for example, if you never use java, mss, or pdf documents, leave jbed, arcsoft and adobe reader out of the extrom and save a lot of space on your device. in general, the rom chef gives a link to the extrom, fitting the rom best, but i think the last official extrom, released by a chef was with xplode's 21202. that is the one you want to take for the newest internet explorer and office and other useful stuff.
2. what? touchflo in general means... nothing. there are 3 aspects of touchflo: touchflo3d (=Manila2d), touchflo cube and sometimes touchflo is also referred to, when it comes to finger friendlyness and touch scrolling.
to be short, the touch scrolling is always on in wm6.5 and it is also quite finger friendly. about the rest... forget it.
3. you know, manila 2d is sooo 2008
manila2d is, as you might know, opticly comparable to an animated version of htc home with a bunch of extra features, and also, like htc home (or the above mentioned touchflo cube) it is improving the today screen of wm6 and wm6.1 devices. it might also work on wm6.5, but for that to be even remotely possible, you have to lose the titanium home (default today screen plugin of wm6.5, with the sliding and all...) so go to start->settings->today->items and unselect windows default and then manila might work for you, which still begs the question:
why would you want manila when you can have titanium?
manila is slow & outdated (if you ever even get it to work, most versions won't do on the BA), while titanium is new, modern, highly customizable, hip, trendy and most important of all, works extremely fast on the BA.
4. ok, assuming that you already checked the backlight and power settings, that leaves a few other things to check:
- does it also do the white screen, if you press the power button in the first place, to switch it off and then turn back on?
- did you do anything in the upgrade process differing from "the book"?
- did you try a hard reset? if you just upgraded, you have nothing to lose?
even more stuff would come to mind, but first post back if any of the things are done so far.

Hi Chef Tony, mate honestly i really do appreciate taking your time and explaining this what was once all french to me. Ok i totally get the idea of ExtRoms and Cab file. So assuming that if i use one of the 6.1 cab files on a 6.5 it should work correct?
Apparently i downloaded Manila2D from this forum, installed it but that didn't work ... i went to start->settings->today->items and unselect windows default and but it comes up as blank screen (home screen) and also i could see TouchFlo as an option and when i select that it takes me back to the home screen saying "Tap here to activate TouchFlo", no matter how many times i tap, nothing happens. So correct me when i say this, this TouchFlo which was showing up on the options is actually a Manila2D app right? I saw a video last night on youtube which said TouchFlo on XDAiis (sorry but can't find the exact link to it) and it looked something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJFBifvgSgA i mean the interface and the screen tapping.
As far as the screen is concerned, it never used to do this but since i've upgraded to 6.5 it has started to. I followed the exact same process what the book said because i'm the sort of a person who follows the book and nothing besides that ... besides i've hard rest it as well but that still did not help. Ok here's what happens (i think), when the device is battery powered, it will white screen when the device is not used for a few minutes (sleep mode or whatever you may call it) but it does not happen when it's on external power because it's always on any way.
in general an extrom from wm6.1 would work on wm6.5 flawlessly. but as mentioned before, the versions of the internet explorer and office changed dramatically. you should include the newer cabs there.
this tap here to activate touchflo is exactly the manila, and normally it should start up then, but as mentioned before, there is no guarantee, every version would work with the BA, but i had a version once, that worked in general, it was just a little slow and some features wouldn't work, which is perfectly normal. you should have a look at this thread and maybe try the versions given there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340932&highlight=iolite
also you'll find other neat stuff there.
if you really want manila as your GUI, maybe you should try a nice wm6 or wm6.1 rom, because manila is really sucking cpu and ram, and with most wm6.5 roms those resources are optimized for titanium and even with titanium switched off, they just consume more hardware than wm6.1 for instance. it will run better then.
but your last sentence there is confusing me. what exactly do you mean, when you say white screen? is it actually showing all white, with backlight, or is it more like the display is off, a pale grey without backlight? if it is the first option, it seems there is actually a tiny problem there, could be together with manila, back in the day, when i ran it, i experienced sort of a third boot splash screen with manila installed and the device would take forever to boot up, soft resets were a major buzzkill then.
if it is the 2nd option, then it is perfectly normal and you can go to start->settings->system->power and set the device to never switch off on battery power, but instead just switch off the backlight.
last but not least (ok, i should have written this above): the video you posted!
the first 48 seconds don't show any manila stuff, that is called s2u2, slide 2 unlock a keylock app, you can download for free, from another forum member here, called A_C, on his site here: http://s2u2.ac-s2.com/ (all credit to A_C)
i wouldn't exactly count on the photo and video function to work on a BA either, as shown about 1:20
at 1:50 the youtube app is not part of manila either, but you can download something like that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385227 or the official one here: http://help.youtube.com/support/youtube/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=20991
i really wonder what the last app was, he showed, since i don't have sound at the moment, i can't tell whether he mentions it maybe, but probably doesn't matter anyway, because you are not looking for a paint clone, but for a nice GUI
hope this could bring you a little bit further in getting your device customized. let me know, whether everything worked out as planned.
Chef_Tony
Hi Chef Tony,
Trying Titanium on Xplode's v7.1 but cannot get my normal Today plugins selected - Pocket Breeze, Device lock, Comms, and a Programme Bar.
Is there an easy way to do this? (In M2D customisation you can set the Today page plugins...)
Thanks.
the titanium blocks everything else.
when you go to start->settings->today->items you see, by default, there is a list of a lot of plugins, but the only one that is checked is the titanium home, there called "Windows Default" for instance date and time is unchecked, which does not mean, you don't see the time in your today screen as a clock is also part of titanium. if you decide to work with m2d or other normal today plugins, you need to uncheck Windows default and then you will have access to the old today screen with the static, yet small, list of items. and then you have the opportunity to use all your today plugins. if you want to use titanium home and have plugins for that look for "titanium plugins" or "chome plugins".
and the plugins of titanium can be monitored, sorted and (de-)activated in "titanizer"
all those things in " " can be found in the forum, just have a look in development & hacking section or use the forum search
I'm trying to find a descent easy tasks replacement program.
Palm had a pretty good todo manager. I'm struggling to find any for the ppc. What does everyone use?
The "tasks" program that comes with winmo sux.
i do use the normal tasks from windows itself..
ofc in combination with titanium
--> it does what is needs to do
If you are under WM6.1, try Wktask !
I've saved a text document called ToDo to my 'Programs' List, then when I click on it in Manilla I get to a straight text file, in which I can write todos/random thoughts which are all there in one document at the touch of the button. When completed, I can just delete the line!
Simple, but effective, just a list and a keyboard.
so far the best one is E-native Showcase task manager
Ok, there seem to be a bit of confusion, well I'm confused anyway, the OP mentions tasks and To Do, but I think to him they are one and the same.
Both E-native Showcase task manager and Wktask are WM 'Task Managers', I think what he wants is a 'To Do' manager to link with the Tasks in Outlook (mobile & desktop).
For my input I used to use SPD Diary as a Today Plugin, the task (To Do) functions were fairly good, I'm not using it now though as I use TouchFlo.

You're right Steve, I'm looking for a todo list. Unfortunately winmo calls their version of todo "tasks"..... which is synonymous with the process manager!... d'oh.
What do you use to make TODO's with touch flo?
I use shopping cart myself, very finger friendly and its essentially a tasks/todo list anyway. I create different tabs down the bottom (groceries, wishlist, todo etc).
Appearance wise it seems to fit in very well with Touch Flo. Just add the shortcut to the Touch Flo programs tab.
You can also set it up to use just 1 text file, save automatically and reopen same file when program is launched. You can have multiple files if you really want to, but I don't bother.

I use PocketInformant to manage my tasks/to do items.
This is a great app for managing numerous categories, projects, etc. Also if you are trying to use a methodology such as GTD, this app is fantastic for this kind of things.
On the other hand, if all you need is to maintain a very simple list, then PocketInformant would be an overkill.
I hope this helps...
Hi there,
i just can recommend MLO.

I just use the normal tasks app, with a program link in the start menu, I don't mind opening it that way, but the program itself is so old and unuser friendly.
I just went from the stock T-Mo ROM to one of the 6.5.3 ROMS here on XDA. On 6.5, I remember there was a setting where you could choose from pressing the X or pressing and holding to close applications. On 6.5.3, I can't find anything similar. I press the X to close the application, only to have to open a task manager and close it that way. If anyone has the solution, or can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful!
A week or two ago I read about people using a cab called Ameba so that the X would make you exit the program. Search that and see what you can come up with. It should be what youre looking for.
EDIT: Found the site with this cab on it.

Yes, AMeBa works very well...for me, anyway. Some ROM cooks build it into their WM6.5.3/5 product.
Here's the XDA thread all about AMeBa:
[APP] AMeBa: Adapting Menu Bar for WM6.5.x [v0.7.1beta - 26/Jan/2010]
Thanks guys, I knew it had to be here on XDA somewhere! (I swear, I searched!)

Go to SETTINGS / SYSTEM / TASK MANAGER. There should be a tab for "Button". But I believe this is only found on ROMs that were originally taken from official HTC ROMS; it is an HTC feature, not WM (IIRC).
I just upgraded my Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 to WM 6.5 and have the following questions:
1) With WM 6.1 there used to be a pulldown button in the top right corner of the screen that would allow you to see what applications where running and to close anything that were no longer needed. This is no longer available in WM 6.5, can anyone tell me how to see what applications are currently running on my phone with WM 6.5?
2) With WM 6.1 when selecting my Favorite Contacts I was given an option to Call, email, text the person. Now with 6.5 it immediately calls the individual without giving any other options. Since I text most of the time this feature is really missed.
I'm sure these can be solved by changing some option in my phone, if anyone could help me out it would be appreciated.
unfortunately thats not fixable. the new sense 2.5 is designed that way (poorly imo). I switched back to tf3d and 6.1 for various reasons; this being one of them.
I have the T-Mobile version.
1) The item is still there, just with a different style. (This could be T-Mobile only).
2) Click on the icon on the far right side of the item.
well two things that can be fixed
1 . little drop down was the task manager so just install this program and itll be back
2 . when you click to add the contact to favorites select view contact card and that will give you the options every time you click on that person .
tseidel you are The Man!
I was just about to ask cirrob how to go back to 6.1 (not at all relishing reinstalling all my apps). cirrob bummer on you having to reinstall 6.1.
So tseidel does the cab just change a registry entry?
The Favorite fix isn't quite as slick as 6.1 but infinitely better than nothing.
Thanks again!
no actually it adds the old task manager thats y if you go to programs task manger it looks dif but its serves the same purpose
6.5 has many quirky issues. Of all the cooked ROMs I've tried, the official T-Mobile 6.1 was the fastest, most stable, most memory, and most functional of them all. I'm currently using T-Mobile 6.5 as it gets better battery life, location based weather (which I like) and is very stable, but has less RAM and ugly backgrounds.
But I also miss the option for two numbers available on each favorite, the old default keyboard (you had to use a stylus with), and the recently opened programs in the start menu. Now I have to scroll through a million icons if I can't fit the program on my prog tab.
1- Install "Dutty's Task Manager" and you have back old button for task
huh.....
Im running 6.5 and i have the task manager in top right....
go to settings->system->task manager->then one of the tabs. cant remember and phones battery dead so cant be bothered to find out.
its in the somewhere though

This is unnecessarily complicated, since it forces you to choose the contact method every single time.
The correct solution is to do it exactly as in 6.1 and select the preferred contact method for each favorite. When you want to use a different method, tap on the grey name area below the contact picture instead of on the contact picture itself. That will pop up the contact card and allow you pick from among all available contact methods.

I'd be pretty surprised if you're running the official Sprint WM 6.5 ROM, from which this has, in fact, been removed.
It's not hard to install a replacement, but doing so is required in order to get the Task Manager back on this ROM.
THX
to tseidel also... I tried all the 'higher' numbered ones and none worked (on Rho SEA WM6.5 update) but this one!!
I use wk task manager which i found here on xda. it is great I am surprised nobody uses it. I covers the top bar and has little icons of all the programs running. you can click on it to open the program. or you can touch and hold and have a bunch of options. it will take a little playing around to figure out all the options. it also comes with a program launcher that you swipe the screen to bring up. I dont use that feature because I use spb mobile shell which has a great launcer that is completely customizable.
