I'm trying to find a descent easy tasks replacement program.
Palm had a pretty good todo manager. I'm struggling to find any for the ppc. What does everyone use?
The "tasks" program that comes with winmo sux.
i do use the normal tasks from windows itself..
ofc in combination with titanium
--> it does what is needs to do
If you are under WM6.1, try Wktask !
I've saved a text document called ToDo to my 'Programs' List, then when I click on it in Manilla I get to a straight text file, in which I can write todos/random thoughts which are all there in one document at the touch of the button. When completed, I can just delete the line!
Simple, but effective, just a list and a keyboard.
so far the best one is E-native Showcase task manager
Ok, there seem to be a bit of confusion, well I'm confused anyway, the OP mentions tasks and To Do, but I think to him they are one and the same.
Both E-native Showcase task manager and Wktask are WM 'Task Managers', I think what he wants is a 'To Do' manager to link with the Tasks in Outlook (mobile & desktop).
For my input I used to use SPD Diary as a Today Plugin, the task (To Do) functions were fairly good, I'm not using it now though as I use TouchFlo.

You're right Steve, I'm looking for a todo list. Unfortunately winmo calls their version of todo "tasks"..... which is synonymous with the process manager!... d'oh.
What do you use to make TODO's with touch flo?
I use shopping cart myself, very finger friendly and its essentially a tasks/todo list anyway. I create different tabs down the bottom (groceries, wishlist, todo etc).
Appearance wise it seems to fit in very well with Touch Flo. Just add the shortcut to the Touch Flo programs tab.
You can also set it up to use just 1 text file, save automatically and reopen same file when program is launched. You can have multiple files if you really want to, but I don't bother.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=506538&highlight=Shopping+Cart
I use PocketInformant to manage my tasks/to do items.
This is a great app for managing numerous categories, projects, etc. Also if you are trying to use a methodology such as GTD, this app is fantastic for this kind of things.
On the other hand, if all you need is to maintain a very simple list, then PocketInformant would be an overkill.
I hope this helps...
Hi there,
i just can recommend MLO.

I just use the normal tasks app, with a program link in the start menu, I don't mind opening it that way, but the program itself is so old and unuser friendly.

An interesting development going on at PointUI for a new WM experience. Found it at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354855
thanks for the heads up, looks pretty good
The PoinUI web page is located at: http://www.pointui.com/. According to their posting, the interface will be available shortly.
Just been released and works a treat.
Don't forget to turn off FTouchflo first.
Deva
It is available now and is very smooth! And it works fine with TouchFlo.
Using it now. Probably spend some time today learning to navigate the interface. Initial impression is very good!
I can't do .exe from my work computer. Does anyone have the .cab by chance?
Hi,

Here u go a cab file
Greg
its brilliant, tried most things, perfect so far
greg beat me to it....
I like what I see so far, I may just drop the HTC look!
nice fresh UI.. only drawback when running this UI, few of your hardware buttons namely Messaging, IE button, Windows & OK buttons will not work ..it needs some manual re-mapping for hermes I believed.
..other hardware buttons works though..
nonetheless, it is a great program overall
Just the time to be used to and... you cannot imagine working without. Nice tool. I just hope that it will be possible to use all buttons
Very cool interface. I do find the HTC home more efficient, but this is a very fun interface to play with. No problems with operation.
I agree. HTC Home is more efficient. I like the HTC Home tabs. Use them all the time.
Trying to find anything that resembles a configuration page for PointUI. Probably go back to HTC Home.
Experiment is over; went back to HTC Home. Initial impressions were very good. However, when I tried to use it, as I would on a daily basis, it was difficult to get to the things I use.
Probably will monitor the development of this interface to see if it improves below the surface. BTW, it doesn't remove easily. I had to do a restore (Sprite Backup) to get back. I guess there is a benefit in doing a backup before trying new software.
I love the look and feel, if they could fix the button mapping and add a browser with the speed of safari this could definitely squash the iphone. Would be nice to have some other backgrounds too. HTC Home may be more efficient but this way cooler... I'm sticking with it.
Things it needs:
customizable launcher so far that's my only complaint
Comment:
removal was very simple using the update manager program navigate to Home v1.o and select uninstall, very neat and clean.
For some reason the cab didn't work for me, using stock Cingular ROM. Regular installer worked fine tho
I've installed it on 2 devices using different service providers, installation worked ok, very slick navigation. I like it although having used HTC Home and HTC Plus! I would say it does take a little longer to get to specific apps as its not configurable yet.
Here are some observations
1. Would be better if you could select the items on the home page, I don't need weather, I can look out of the window and see what its like today and can look on line for a more accurate forecast if I need it.
2. I have a couple of ICONS in applications and games that error with shellres.dll the error complains about not being signed or a missing component
3. Notifications appear but dissapear and then cannot be re-located, this is a pain with Voicemail if you don't already have SMS alert set.
4. Would like the option to choose a different theme.
5. Why 2 clocks, configuration should allow for either type either analogue or digital.
Hi I was thinking of switching from Omnia to TP2 and use Opera Mini all the time due to its speed. Had anyone tested it on the TP2, wondering if the different screen res makes it differcult to read due to size or should it be better.
I just installed it in JBlend. The legibility is OK, although the default font size is a little small. The main problem is that opening or closing the keyboard requires you to restart JBlend, which is a royal pain in the neck as I often want to switch between landscape and portrait mode when I'm browsing.
This problem seems to exist with all JBlend apps.
Install JBed, works like a champ. Will thoroughly recommend it. Much better than JBlend.
On Jbed what is the font size like?
Are there no problems with keyboard as described with jblend?
I just installed the latest JBed and OperaMini now loads fine. The font is pretty small, but readable (by me, at least).
Does anyone know how to create a direct menu shortcut to a specific JBed application (e.g. OperaMini, GoogleMail, etc)? (i.e. without having to launch Jbed then select the app you want to launch). I'd also like to assign a different icon to each application, so that I can tell them apart purely from the icon.
Sorry for the obvious question: JBed? JBlend?
Are these some sort of Java runtimes that one must install on a WinMo device?
There's no Java ME edition in WinMO 6.1 by default?
I don't get why you wouldn't just use opera mobile which comes with it
Because until Opera Mobile 9.7 with Turbo ships, mini opera is several times faster with proper settings.
For the past 3 years I've used almost nothing but Opera Mini myself, instead of the full fledged browsers available (I have bought Opera Mobile as well and a Webkit browser).
It's just so much faster due to Turbo caching and fits my needs.
I suspect many others are in the same boat.

Thanks for the link.
So....following the instructions for jbed...I created a text file on the PC containing only the following line:
"\windows\jbed.exe -run s0_"
(with the quotes included). I copied this file to the TP2 and renamed it "OperaMini.lnk". When I run the renamed file it doesn't know how to handle it - I get the "Open with..." dialog.
Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong??
itm,
I believe what you need to do, is create the shortcut file on your TP2 using a file explorer other than the stock WM one (at least on my Uni, it is not capable of creating shortcuts). I think you can either use the inbuilt function of the file explorer (i.e. paste shortcut or something like that) or create a file and change the file extension to .lnk (as you have done) Once the new shortcut file is created, you need to access the "properties" box of that file and in the box where it says something like "go to" or "link" you will need to paste "\windows\jbed.exe -run s0_" (with the quotes). You then save the change and should hopefully be ready to roll...
Appologies for the vague explanation, but left my Uni at home today, so can't physically go through the process on an actual WM device atm.
If you're still stuck after reading this, PM me and I'll try and walk you through once I'm home.

I am porting some Titanium plugins for WM6.5 Standard.
Currently, I have ported the CLauncher & CComm, both of which were originally developed by "chriscsh" and quite good.
You can find out more information about these plugins on their corresponding threads:
* Titanium CLauncher http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=514490
* Titanium CComm http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=513747
The plugins require Mortscript, which is also included below.
I have only tested and verified the plugins using the PD Titanium panels on the EnergyROM. However, I believe they should work on the 3vo ROM as well. These plugins use the ATPluginInstaller, which provides a robust installation and limits compatibility issue with other panels.
Here are some screenshots:
(CLauncher showing two applications, Facebook & Tiny Twitter)
(CComm showing the two pages, Setup & Phone connection)
(Steps for adding an application to the CLauncher panel, in this case, Opera Mini)
is there anywhere we can add another panel? one for apps another for games if possible?
Well.... not exactly. The CLauncher is a single panel.
The idea here is to be able to access and launch applications that are used very frequently (maximum of 9). It really does not matter if they are games, utilities, online applications, native applications.
The feature that you ask for would need to be implemented in a different plugin.
thats what im saying like an a cab that will let us another panel like clauncher
This two are working great, the only one i miss is the contact panel,
i dont have much experience with this type of mods, and im getting an atplugin error, so if anyone could help i would really appreciate.
can someone help me set this up no idea how
yeah working fine in portrait mode too!!! (some fix to the cpr but nothing impmossible!!)
really good job!
now we need a way to add more than one launcher... it could be great and usefull!!

O.k once you install the .cabs I had to go to Chome Config. and "show" both panels. You can the go back to you home screen and setup the CComm panel. As for as the CLauncher panel goes manual input works best; expecialy if your apps are located on your storage card, i.e \Storage Card\Program Files\Facebook\facebook.exe. Then you name it, and choose a icon. Ihave Chome Config. Icon-pak installed and I get mine form there. Hope this helps. I would love to have Chome Config work fully on WM6.5 though.
Ok, I am scratching my head just a little here. I have this set up and it is working well. I am able to launch a couple of programs. Of course I set those app's up using the "Choose from list" method. Now....here is the problem. I am trying to add the Opera Mini app using the manual method referred to in your 3th picture, but my Branded T-Mobile Dash does not seem to have a forward slash "\", only a backward slash "/". Am I blind, or just being a n00b? I have looked the keyboard over and over again, and honestly, I don't think it has it. Help please.

Ah. I see said the blind man. Heck, I didn't even know that was what that button is for. Guess it would have helped if I read my owners manual, lol. I was so used to texting on my previous phone, Motorola RAZR. Like I said before, I am new to the smartphone/full keyboard thing.

The export is on My documents so after you export copy it to your SD card

Anyone disabled TF3D and kept the original WM home screen interface? I personally disabled it and kept the original interface even though I don't like how the WM SMS look. I disabled it because I don't like the default TF3D colors and I tried changing it black, but it's a no go. I don't know why! I did change the background and the drop menu all black which looks pretty neat since anything black looks good. What I really want is the WM6.5 Zune interface so I can't wait for WM6.5 official release!!!
Let us know what you have.
TF3D does not appeal to me!
TF3D is pretty, so people "oooo" and "aaah" over the phone and buy it.
However, I still think that TF3D is a bunch of useless kitsch that gets in the way of actually using the phone effectively. After a few hours of it interfering with what I want to do, I turned it off. (At least this time it took a few hours and not a few minutes.)
This is especially true of the messaging (it's just in the way), and the photo album. (who wants to see tiny, slanted, distorted versions of the pictures?) It's been a while, so I cannot remember the other specific things that annoyed me.
TF3D was the first thing I disabled on the device... I don't like that I cannot choose my own programs and way of working.
I use Wisbar Advance and Wisbar Desktop
on my personal Touch HD I much prefered the TouchFLo interface to the standard windows one - saying that, that was running a Dutty ROM
However on my work TP2 - I have it disabled as it gets in the way of my business apps - i.e. MS Communicator etc.
TF3D has bad things an good things.
The biggest failure and that's why TF3D is just crap is because it's not intuitive and easy to use. Way to many steps to get things done, pretty useless taskbar (exepts for the killing programs part). You can do to much information on one screen at the same time and too little. It's nice that they include things like a calendar, but it's pretty useless and in many ways TF3D makes the use of third party software actually harder.
The very good things about touchflo 3d is the push pages, the scheduels, and the best thing is the fueture to see all of your conversation with one contact. I really love it. Next to that it's snappy and pretty.
Well I treid SPB mobile shell 3, but it just doesn't do it. Also many features, but the fact is: when I use my phone it's to get something done pretty quickly. I just want to be able that I have a good view of all the info I need (messages, appointments) in the least ammount of time and to be able to do something in little time. The regular wm is just very easy. Start - settings/programs - choose- done.
Seeing my messages when there is a new one I get a popup and pres view and I there. I do not have to click the task baar. Get a new screen there push on the button, then being transported to the touchflo tab and then have to choose the message.
THats 2 clicks vs 4/5 clicks.
I kept the default TF3d for now, as soon as the official WM 6.5 ROM will be available, I'll switch to the Titanium UI.

An interesting 'Widget' based replacement for TF3D I came on when I was looking around on XDA.
"FEWidgets Ultimate" by nicodega.
It replaces TF3D completely as a 'Today' plugin.
Basically one just has to install the CAB.
(Note: it will not show up under All Programs, but as a Today plugin only)
> Go into Settings> Today>
> Remove check next TF3D
> Enable Check next to FEWidgets Ultimate
Two versions- Large widgets and Small Widgets for anyone who needs a whole bunch of widgets.
I did try it out on my TMO TP2 and both versions basically work when I tested each separately.
Though I haven't tried fine-tuning each widget for my TP2 yet.
Enjoy.
i kept my TP1 and gave the TP2 to Dad whose TmoWing crapped out. Had to disable TF3D for him today. The last straw was contacts/call history will not allow you to dial out, it's link to the phone dialer was broken or something. I don't know if this is a result of a tweak I did or if the Tmo's TF3D version has a bug. After disabling TF3D, you can press the contacts again to call out. For future reference, anyone know the cause/solution?
Like above guy said, now I need a replacement for tf3d. The last version of BatteryStatus that I used was 1.04build266 from this time last year, which has since been replaced by HomeScreenPlusPlus or something like that. Anyone know of a stable version for the TP2? Stable enough for Dad?
Today Plugins
I kept the default TF3D, but with HDWall, because I love the eye-candy of the interface and I find it very intuitive to use. I have also tried other today plugins, such as PointUI Home 2, FEWidgetsUltimate and iPhonetoday, but none of them felt as smooth and easy to use as TF3D for me. Out of the other interfaces I tried I find FEWidgetsUltimate to be the best.
LINK - iPhoneToday
LINK - FEWidgetsUltimate
LINK - HDWall
LINK - PointUI
EDIT: On my previous device I tried SPB Mobile Shell - LINK
I also got rid of TF3D. IMHO that is eye candy for people who don't know how to use a computer - and that is still a large number of people out there using phones. W/o TF3D I get things quicker done and have more flexibility to set up the phone the way I use it best.

Thanks for the link! HDWall and Mobileshell looks nice.
It is VERY usefull for me! I can't use without! I'm bored by WinMo interface.
I too found TF obtrusive and unintuitive so switched it off. I used to use SPB Mobile Shell on the Kaiser and liked it, but I'm a bit fed up of the way it doesn't integrate with Informant and Flexmail, so I'm back to the WM interface and don't miss all the bloat.
I just upgraded my Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 to WM 6.5 and have the following questions:
1) With WM 6.1 there used to be a pulldown button in the top right corner of the screen that would allow you to see what applications where running and to close anything that were no longer needed. This is no longer available in WM 6.5, can anyone tell me how to see what applications are currently running on my phone with WM 6.5?
2) With WM 6.1 when selecting my Favorite Contacts I was given an option to Call, email, text the person. Now with 6.5 it immediately calls the individual without giving any other options. Since I text most of the time this feature is really missed.
I'm sure these can be solved by changing some option in my phone, if anyone could help me out it would be appreciated.
unfortunately thats not fixable. the new sense 2.5 is designed that way (poorly imo). I switched back to tf3d and 6.1 for various reasons; this being one of them.
I have the T-Mobile version.
1) The item is still there, just with a different style. (This could be T-Mobile only).
2) Click on the icon on the far right side of the item.
well two things that can be fixed
1 . little drop down was the task manager so just install this program and itll be back
2 . when you click to add the contact to favorites select view contact card and that will give you the options every time you click on that person .
tseidel you are The Man!
I was just about to ask cirrob how to go back to 6.1 (not at all relishing reinstalling all my apps). cirrob bummer on you having to reinstall 6.1.
So tseidel does the cab just change a registry entry?
The Favorite fix isn't quite as slick as 6.1 but infinitely better than nothing.
Thanks again!
no actually it adds the old task manager thats y if you go to programs task manger it looks dif but its serves the same purpose
6.5 has many quirky issues. Of all the cooked ROMs I've tried, the official T-Mobile 6.1 was the fastest, most stable, most memory, and most functional of them all. I'm currently using T-Mobile 6.5 as it gets better battery life, location based weather (which I like) and is very stable, but has less RAM and ugly backgrounds.
But I also miss the option for two numbers available on each favorite, the old default keyboard (you had to use a stylus with), and the recently opened programs in the start menu. Now I have to scroll through a million icons if I can't fit the program on my prog tab.
1- Install "Dutty's Task Manager" and you have back old button for task
huh.....
Im running 6.5 and i have the task manager in top right....
go to settings->system->task manager->then one of the tabs. cant remember and phones battery dead so cant be bothered to find out.
its in the somewhere though

This is unnecessarily complicated, since it forces you to choose the contact method every single time.
The correct solution is to do it exactly as in 6.1 and select the preferred contact method for each favorite. When you want to use a different method, tap on the grey name area below the contact picture instead of on the contact picture itself. That will pop up the contact card and allow you pick from among all available contact methods.

I'd be pretty surprised if you're running the official Sprint WM 6.5 ROM, from which this has, in fact, been removed.
It's not hard to install a replacement, but doing so is required in order to get the Task Manager back on this ROM.

to tseidel also... I tried all the 'higher' numbered ones and none worked (on Rho SEA WM6.5 update) but this one!!
I use wk task manager which i found here on xda. it is great I am surprised nobody uses it. I covers the top bar and has little icons of all the programs running. you can click on it to open the program. or you can touch and hold and have a bunch of options. it will take a little playing around to figure out all the options. it also comes with a program launcher that you swipe the screen to bring up. I dont use that feature because I use spb mobile shell which has a great launcer that is completely customizable.
