Sd not recognised NEED HELP - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy:
Here's the deal.
I need to flash a pd98img.zip or a nandroid backup from fastboot. Can anyone tell me what the commands are once my phone's serial number appears after entering 'fastboot devices'?
Here's why. The phone isn't reading the sd card. Might be hardware, I'm not sure but I want to flash a stock rom and find out.
The phone is eng s off and radio s off super cid blah yadda blah......
I've access to cwm recovery 3.x... and the bootloader but there's no rom on the phone so it won't boot past the Htc splash screen (unless selecting recovery from the bootloader) and when I use an ruu with it plugged into the usb with bootloader connection the ruu says there isn't enough battery and stops.
Any instruction would be really appreciated but please remember, I can't use any sd card (tried several that work on my other dhd).

If you have the system & data .img's from a backup you can try,
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash data data.img

Thank you for your suggestion. I flashed system and all is ok but when I flash the data image i get
failed remote: partition does not exist.
Any suggestions?

Can you try booting into recovery and head into "mounts and storage" then format /data
Then try,
Code:
fastboot flash data data.img
again.

Hey. Thanks so much for your help. I'll have a go and get back to you tomorrow.

Help - flashing pb99.img in hboot no PC.

Hi.
I have a rooted s-off desire using alpha rev 1.8.
I'm currently trying to resize the nand partitions using the method on the alpharev.nl site, without a pc. I'm running cm6.1 rom, so I downloaded the n1table zip ready to flash. Its renamed to pb99img.zip on root of sdcard. I've reboot into hboot using volume+down and I'm not quite sure where to go from here. I tried going into recovery and installing zip from SD but it doesnt seem to have worked as when I reboot into rom and check SD storage, it remains the same as before.
I know I must be missing something basic. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Cheers.

Do NOT continue with what you're doing. Have you even read the instructions on the AlphaRev site? You flash a new MTD table using the fastboot commands of adb:
1) Nandroid backup in recovery.
2) Verify the MD5SUM of the file you downloaded against the one in the table.
3) Flash HBOOT with your phone in fastboot mode (Back+POWER) -> 'fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' (change into the correct filename for the HBOOT you downloaded)
4) 'Fastboot reboot-bootloader'
5) 'Fastboot erase cache'
6) Boot recovery, wipe everything and restore
It´s also working with HBOOT...but I think you have to rename it to PB99IMG.zip (case Sensitiv)
If you have it in your / Filesystem on your SD Card, you will be asked after booting to Bootloader if you want to update.
Answer with "Volume up" or "down"
YOU DO NOT RENAME AN ALPHAREV HBOOT MOD TO PB99IMG
That is for Zip versions of the RUUs and NOTHING to do with AlphaRev
Seriously, read up before you brick your phone
From the Aplha Rev HP:
You can also download the corresponding PB99IMG zipfile, put it on your sdcard, and rename it to PB99IMG.zip. Then start the phone in HBOOT mode (VolDown+POWER) to flash the HBOOT without a PC.
Sorry, if I don´t understand this right...but that´s a fact from his Page
I´m sure Fastboot is the better way...but I tried it like this and it worked
I stand corrected, didn't see they had that option now. My apologies
In which case, you'd download the relevent ZIP file, rename it PB99IMG.zip (not PB99IMG.zip.zip) and put it on the root of our SD card (root - not in any folders)
Then, when you boot into HBOOT it should just pick it up and ask if you want to flash it - you don't go into recovery
no Probs
I never got asked if i wanted to flash the hBOOT
I'm running a rooted HTC desire and i'm trying to load flash the hboot to the oxygen variety
I haven't s-off my phone yet but wanted to use the no PC method outlined above
When i go into hBoot the phone picks up the PB99IMG.zip (saying "checking PB99IMG.zip......") but doen't give me the option to flash the hboot
Am i missing something? Do i have to s-off it the long way first?
Any help would be really appreciated
=]
Yes, you have to S-OFF first before you can change the MTD. It does say on the website:
"If you are already S-OFF, you can get our newest patched HBOOTs from here. (without going through the entire procedure again).
Please read the entire table and pick the partition table with the correct sizes for your ROM. One easy way to switch partition tables, is to nandroid backup,
and verify that the sizes of your backup are indeed the ones listed in the table (or smaller), and restore after flashing hboot."
Any idea if i can choose the Oxygen variation when i use the AlphaRev 1.8 HBOOT reflash utility or will i need to do it again with a PB99IMG.zip after?

Do the Alpharev 1.8 Flash first.
Then connect your phone, boot into Fastboot mode, and run the foll:
1) Nandroid backup in recovery.
2) Verify the MD5SUM of the file you downloaded against the one in the table.
3) Flash HBOOT with your phone in fastboot mode (Back+POWER) -> 'fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' (change into the correct filename for the HBOOT you downloaded)
4) 'Fastboot reboot-bootloader'
5) 'Fastboot erase cache'
6) Boot recovery, wipe everything and restore.

Again a quote from their site
Edit: Alpharev seems to have taken down the Pb99img method

Of course I have read the instructions thoroughly. I would never do anything without reading several times over. As another member pointed out, you can in fact flash from .zip
However it would not work for me, probably a lot of others too, as another member mentioned it has been removed from site.
I have now switched to miui and am not encountering any storage space issues as yet, so I think ill leave it alone for awhile. Thanks for everyone's input and help.
Cheers.

Anyone got this to work? Ive tried following the instructions (I have s-off and have repartitioned my HBOOT previously with ADB) and it just says no image found when I load into fastboot
When I try to do it from the SD card on mine, it finds the PB99IMG.zip file but then says "Model ID invalid. Update Fail!" then asks if I want to reboot or not. Rebooting just performs a normal reboot with no changes.

Obviously, you're trying to install a file meant for another device! That's a very dangerous thing to do!
It's the PB99IMG.zip for the Oxygen HBOOT. How can it be for the wrong device? I'm s-off, running Oxygen RC7.

At least that's what the error code means anyway..Is there a reason why you cant fastboot flash the img?
Yea, I assumed that. I can't seem to get fastboot working again on my machine. It was working but I haven't had much time to look into what happened. ADB devices brings up the serial number but fastboot won't detect the phone. I was just trying to do this while I was at work and I don't have access to fastboot here.

Adb and fastboot detect the phone at different phases. If one detects, at that point, the other wouldnt.
Are u sure you're trying out fastboot in fastboot mode (poweroff, Back key+Power On)? At that point fastboot should work..Even most severely damaged phones are detected in fastboot
Yes, the phone is in fastboot when I'm trying this. I'm wondering if something happened to the fastboot driver or something. Either way, I'll look into it at some point.

[Q] SLCD desire cant mount SD on recovery

Hello people,
some things about me: i aint no expert,i am just the "follow the guide step by step" type of guy.
here goes with my problem,
I flashed oxygen v2.0 and my phone after a manual reboot crashed, i tried to boot but it stuck in the oxygen boot logo 4-5 times.
i opened the recovery (clockwork mod-alpharev 2.5.1.8) and wiped everything out (system-data-dalvik cache-ext partition)also formated the whole sd to fat32.
then when i tried to reflash oxygen 1.0.4 my recovery says that it cant mount sd card.the actuall message i get is " E:cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)"
i have S-OFF and rooted of course, phone is also with oxygen HBOOT.
i tried with 2 diferent cards and with both of them i get the same message.
also both of them are working fine, tested on a laptop card reader.
is it a device HW problem or something that has to do with the wipes i mentioned i did before?
what can i do to bring it back to life??
What happens if you connect the usb? Might be a usb brick.
Hi,
when i connect it via usb i can see it in "my device manager" on my pc listed as "android USB devices - My HTC" (fastboot)
in boot loader i can see it listed as "Android phone - Android Bootloader interface"
when im in cwm-alpharev recovery i can see it as "other devices - Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM"
the problem is that i cant mount my sd in recovery to do a NAND restore
the only thing i can do right now is go to fastboot bootloader and cwm-alpharev recovery
any ideas?
Yes, follow the link I gave you.
Skip step one since your still rooted.
ok thanks but i am gonna need some more help,
in step 2 it sais to boot into fastboot and enter a command
enter it where?
Terminal or command prompt, make suer you have the sdk tools installed and can use fastboot. If you don't know what it is or how to get it working start here.
I LOVE YOU so much right now,
all i did is the 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' to restore SD functionality and then a nand restore.
my desire owns you his life,
thanks alot.

http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_HD:_Rooting
Taken from cyanogenmidwiki for the desire hd
lashing the Engineering HBoot (Optional)
The Engineering HBoot is NOT required to run CyanogenMod on the HTC Desire HD and NOT recommend to flash unless you absolutely know what you are doing & what the Engineering HBoot does to the device, due to a bad flash can brick the device, proceed with caution. 1. Download the Engineering HBoot: Download md5:b2c8834905bfa2349f5223077493140a
2. Unzip the Engineering HBoot to the same folder as adb (the /platform-tools folder with the Android SDK folder). 3. Connect the HTC Desire HD to the computer via USB. 4. On the computer, open terminal and type the following commands:
adb push hboot-eng.img /data/local
5. This next step could severely damage the HTC Desire HD. Using the incorrect file could cause irreparable damage, making the phone nothing more than a brick. Type the next command in the Terminal Emulator:
su
dd if=/data/local/hboot-eng.img of=/dev/block/
mmcblk0p18
6. At this point the Engineering HBoot is now install on the HTC Desire HD.

[Q] My phone won't read sdcard after radio flash

I'll get right to the point, I have a rooted desire with cm7 and I tried flashing 5.17.05.23 radio from here I let my phone do what it had to do but the it went in to recovery where it was formatting cache, but I thought it got stuck so i selected reboot and now my phone wont read any sd card.
Any solutions?
install fastboot, reboot to fastboot and run the following
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot reboot
hopefully you just enabled radio debugging some how.
Oh my. Flashing the radio with custom partitions (such as CM7) can result in a brick if you have less than 30Mb cache. Indeed using partitions such as this requires that the radio is flashed from fastboot via the PC or returning the phone to a stock hboot and installing from there. Hope you can fix it.
Never-mind, i fixed it, someone said it was just a usb-brick, thanks anyway...

[Q] How to flash Clockwork / ROM via Eng Bootloader

Hi Guys
I apologise in advance, I have tried searching for this, but I cannot seem to find information on the Desire Z.
I had a bit of a mishap with titantium backup, it locked the phone, pulled the battery... stuck on HTC splash screen. I was rooted with Eng bootloader, S-Off, Clockwork recovery. Clockwork is complaining about not being able to access /cache and I am unable to restore a nandroid backup or flash a rom on the SD card.
I guess I need to reflash my recovery, but I cannot get in to ADB or fastboot.
When should I be able to use ADB?
ADB cannot see my device when it is booted in clockwork.
Fastboot cannot see my device.
Any help would be appreciated as I'm stuck, I can get in to the bootloader / fastboot so not all hope is lost
Thanks in advance!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838185 GIYF
First thing i would do is connect the phone to your pc put it on fastboot and excute
this command : "fastboot erase system -w " it could solve your problem and you could use the recovery .sometimes when recovery is failing to deal with formating, this command worlks . however if that didnt work and you want to flash a recovery
you should put the recovery image in your ADB folder navigate to that folder from the terminal and excute this commands:
"fastboot devices" to make sure fastboot is seeing your phone, it should return your phone serial number.
"fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" to flash the new recovery
"fastboot reboot" well to reboot
thats it
hope that helps.
Hey guys thanks for the info... I have two devices here, so I have verified my fastboot is working on my laptop. Why can I not see the problem device listed when I run fastboot devices ?
... your recovery is not able to access /cache:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
is this the output you get?
EDIT: if so, it could be your emmc chip... but i think you still should be able to see your phone on fastboot
When you connect the phone to your laptop does fastboot changes to fast boot usb ? Is the output of fastboot devices device : ?????????? Or something else? Is the other phone htc too? Have u ever used fastboot on this laptop and phone?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Hey guys, yes that is the output I get, the phone says fastboot USB and I can access fastboot on my other g2, adb is borked on my laptop which doesn't exactly help!
Hm... This not good. If your emmc chip is fried, you can only hope for warranty. Do some research about it - there are ways to confirm that it is a hw defect.
...also there is a irc channel where devs could help you - #g2root or something like that
Sry
EDIT: maybe you are able to use fastboot using the drivers from here: http://g2hacks.com/category/g2-drivers/ ...another xda user posted this
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Thanks for all the help folks, I have now got adb working on my functional G2, I will see what I can see from my dodgy G2 when I get home from work. Looking at various threads on here there are possibly two different types of flash memory used SEM04G and M4G2DE. SEM04G appears to be the good one found in my functioning phone, will post results if I can see what the deal is with my defective G2. Stay tuned folks!
Hi guys just an update, I got ADB working and I had the M4G2DE memory in the defective G2, my healthy G2 has the SEM04G serial in it.
Booked for collection this week, so fingers crossed as I had the Eng Bootloader, S-Off and clockwork installed.
Sorry to hear this. Let us know what happens!
Hi Guys
Can confirm that HTC UK have repaired my phone for free! Great result as I was not expecting to see it back before Christmas!
Thanks to all of you for your help
Since I have your attention what's the latest and greatest guide to installing root, eng Hboot and S-off?
I used some GUI tool last time that was most excellent, set S-off or on, flashed Hboots, roms and radios. Anyone seen this kicking about as I did not bookmark it.
Thanks guys
good to hear
...don´t know about that GUI for rooting you are talking about.
i recommend this two threads for gaining perm root:

Hi guys Thanks for all your help and patience! I'm back to a fully rooted device! Happy days, and also my phone shipped with the better flash memory
