[Q] How to install app on internal memory with A2SD rom? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use RCmixS v2.0 with A2SD and i have two security apps i want to have installed on the internal memory and not on the sd-card...
How can i move them?

hi,
there is many way s to do this
1/android => menu/settings/application choose your app and move it to internal
2/ use an app like titanium backup choose your app and select "move to internal"
(need to be rooted to do so) i suppose your are since it is a custom rom.

a2SD & titanium backup help.

Hey guys Im running LeeDroid rom.
I wanted to get a2sd to work, so I partitioned my SD via Rom manager with 512mb EXT3/0 swap
I titanium backuped all my apps/data. Transfered the folder to my deskop then did
the partition part via ROm Manager. When that was done I batch > restore apps and data.
My internal memory on the phone still says 30mb available ?
SD & phone storage is as follows:
SD:
Total space: 6.92 GB
Avail Space: 6.90GB
Internal Phone Storage: 34.25MB
Did I do something wrong ? How I know if my apps are on my SD card? Also if they are am I suppose to have more Internal Phone Storage?
Update: Under manage Apps > On SD card .... There is no apps what so ever there so must of done something wrong :S
Thanks !
how many apps do you have? with apps2sd it still uses some internal memory and some cache so internal memory will drop
According to titanium I have 22 user apps 148 data. But like I said under manage apps,on SD there is nothing. So prob did something wrong. How can I check if my SD is partitioned properly with a 512mb. Or even if a2sd is working.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
22 apps seems like internal memory is being used and not apps2sd
heres how to check if its working
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=677073
it can be done using connectbot app from market
open connectbot and use local
then type
su
ls -l /data
this should list the top 2 items as:
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2010-04-28 22:54 app-private -> /system/sd/app-private
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2010-04-28 22:54 app -> /system/sd/app
ls -l /system/sd/app (will list apps on installed to your SD Card)
Awesome found my problem lol. I didn't have a2sd installed. I assumed it came with the Rom,just read and its optional and must be flashed.
Now is there a away to see if I partitioned correctly with a ext3?
Also do I back up apps and data or just apps.
Also how do I put my davlik cache on my SD or just put the apps.
Sorry first time doing all this LOL.
Thx for the help.

So I installed a2sd.
Now my available internal phone memory is 125MB ... Is this right ?
Also under applications> manage apps> on SD nothing shows there is this normal ?
I thought that I would show all the apps.
Pretty sure its all installed properly. Because yesterday there was only 30mb of interal storage.
Just wanted to confirm if I should see apps under "on SD" in manage apps.
thanks

Your big mistake in my opinion was when you restored the Titanium backup. This not only restores apps (to their original location!) but also restores system data, some of which may not be compatible with Froyo and A2SD+
I recommend you do a factory reset/full-wipe including davlik cache, then check free memory at next reboot (before restoring anything).
With EXT3 and A2SD+, you should have 130MB+ free in phone memory.
If you get 130MB+ free, then don't restore the backup this time, but instead re-install all apps from the market manually.
Assume you have an 8GB SD card? The fact you have 6.92GB free on SD and not 7.5GB, suggests your 512MB ext3 partition is there, and probably working fine.
Sounds right as most people are getting 135mb after a fresh install with that rom.
Also try Quick System Info and in there it will give you a reading of the A2SD+ memory being used.
I think the way A2SD+ works is to trick the phone (with shortcuts to the programs on SD) into thinking its on the internal memory so maybe that's why they don't show up as installed on SD.

Problems with a2sd / can't find mod install location

First of all: I searched, googled and tried for the last 3 hours.
So I finally managed to partition my SD card, after having problems to upgrade Clockwork recovery.
What's missing is the program "mod install location"
Google gives me lots of links to the market, but the app isn't on the market. I am using the newest leedroid Rom on my desire.
Any ideas?

Additional info:
I upgraded from an 4gb card to a 16gb.

Well first of all there are 2 types of a2sd. The froyo one and the old one:
Froyo one:
-Apps are moved to a folder on fat32 partition on sd-card (the same as all your other files are stored to)
-You are able to move apps.
-You dont need to partition your sd-card.
-Far from all apps support this, so you need "mod install location" to allow all apps.(this app was removed from the market)
-Don't need root
Old A2SD:
-Apps are stored on a folder in the ext-partition.
-Is invisible to system(can't move apps)
-You obviously need to partition sd-card.
-all apps work by default because the system thinks they are on internal(you don't need "mod install location")
-Need root
So you are actually doing 2 different things. Hope I've sorted it and ask away if you have further questions.
edit: you can run both, but you will just be moving apps back and forth between the ext-partition and the fat32 partition, both on the sd-card.
yeah i knew that there where 2 types of a2sd.
what I did not know is that "mod install location" is for the froyo a2sd.
what i want is to move more apps to the sd card...
i don't know what to chose... froyo a2sd with "mod install location" or the old a2sd. can you give me a hint? or tell me the advantages.
for the froyo one I need "mod install location". i don't have it.
is Deodexed or odexed relevant for the decision?
for the old a2sd I need my sd card partitioned. i did this. so how do i move apps to sd now? or just install new apps?
sorry... lot of questions. lot of missing knowledge.

Which file explorer will see my A2SD partition?

Is there a file explorer that can see the A2SD partition on my SD card?
I've got Astro and Root Explorer - but I can't seem to find it.
Maybe I'm not doing it right or don't really know what I'm looking for?!
Root explorer can, look in /system/sd
I dont think you can mount it when the applications are running from it.
[edit] My bad, /system/sd it is :]
Even if i move apps to the SD(using Manage Applications > Move to SD), there are still some kilobytes that go into internal storage.
so right now i'm at 15megabytes left on my htc desire's internal storage. even though all the apps that i can put on SD is stored on SD.
So is there a way to fully move an app to the SD without storing anything to the internal storage space?
Another question is, is there a way to put apps onto the SD that normally won't function if it's not on internal storage and still have it functioning.(i put swype on SD, to save space. but everytime i reboot my phone, i will have to re-enable swype. then set my default keyboard to swype. i do this to save some megabytes off my internal storage, even though its a hassle to do this everytime i reboot)

You are talking about the froyo apps to sd, this topic is about A2SD+.
A2SD+ or DATA2sd is what you need, i would recommend to install a custom rom with A2SD+ (most custom roms just name it A2SD). Just find a rom that requires a ext partition.

i'm running cm6, is there any way to get A2SD working without having to flash a new rom? or should i wait for cm 6.1, becuase it supports a2sd?
Flash this DT a2sd+, the link is also in the nightly thread. I used it on 6.02 and on the current RC2 with no problems. Note: it doesnt move dalvik cache to SD automatically, if you want that, do it manually after flashing.

[Q] how to move apps from a2sd+ to genuine internal memory?

I have been using a2sd+ rom, how can i move some apps from a2sd+(sd-ext) to genuine internal memory?
thx.
I don't know if there's a way to move just several apps.
You can download a Terminal app (e.g. ConnectBot or Terminal Emulator)
Use a local user (ConnectBot, don't know how the Terminal Emulator works)
then tipe:
su (Enter -> Superuser)
a2sd nocache
The apps should be on the internal storage now
I'm no pro so don't flame me
Don't know if that's the right way
There is an application on the market
Simple App 2 SD
This allows you to move the apps with one click back to the data folder from the sd card.
You do not need an app for this. Just go to "menu>settings>applications>manage applications", choose the app you want to move, and press "move to internal memory". If there is not this option, press "move to sd-card" (moves the app from the ext3-partition to the fat32-partition) and after this is complete, press "move to internal memory".

System Storage insufficient

I installed xperia themed rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-1s/development/rom-sony-xperia-z5-lollipop-ui-rom-t3254408. I am facing insufficient storage problem while installing the gapps. I guess the xperia apps utilized all the available system storage. Is there any solution for this apart from partitioning the sd card?
Thanks in advance....
maybe mounts2sd can do it, u have the option which partition to move to external sd 2nd partition, so just use other rom with gapps to download mounts2sd then copy the app to ur sdcard then install the xperia themed rom w/o gapps, install and config the mounts2sd install script inside the app n uncheck all option then reboot, open the app again now check move system partition to sdext then reboot (it may take long time since it move the system partition for the 1st time). if it success u can now install the gapps
