[Q] Installing apps problem on acer liquid.

The phone memory is very small so i need to install my apps on the sd card.How can i do that?

You need Android 2.2 Froyo on your Acer Liquid in order to move apps to SD Card.

or a way to remove the stock apps that take huge amount of space for nothing because they are demo's

- Root it (Z4 Root)
- Install Root explorer or Astro File Manager or SuperManager
- Remove stock apps: /system/app/ (make sure you make a backup of the APK's you remove on your SD card!) see also: here
- Remove the stock apps data store: /data/data/<appname>
- Clear dalvik cache: /data/dalvik-cache (remove ALL files in this directory and reboot you phone, first boot will take longer than usual because its rebuilds the dalvic cache)
Should clean up nicely.

create a ext partition on your sd card and install a rom who allows apps2sd (old method) is the best way. Or you can have a look at A2sd on the market

Partitioning for CM7 and App2SD

I am using Cyanogenmod 7 and App2SD (as explained here). I want to move EVERYTHING to the SD card (including data) and use ext4. How should I partition the card (using Gparted) to have it working properly?
I tried doing it with Clockworkmod but it is very limited (only 1 partition+swap?) and does not ask me if it should be ext4.

yah its better if u use gparted live cd..cwm create by default an ext3
but be aware that any cwm recovery below 5.x will format ur ext partition in ext3 as soon u do a wipe or a restore on it! to use an ext4 u should use cwm 5.x and up (or alternative amon_ra 2.0.1)

My question was: How should partitions look on the card. What types, sizes and for what purpose. For 4gb and 8gb card. I checked the default partitioning done by CWM and it was 1.8gb fat + 1.8gb ext3 + swap. Why the division? Why fat? Can I do it differently, like 10mb fat + 3.8gb ext4?

Dont make your EXT partition over 2GB

All the data moved from the phone to SD card though app2SD - would they be kept on ext or fat partition? Is the FAT partition the one visible on the computer if the phone is connected as a USB storage?

You need to be clear on your definitions before we can answer that.
Do you mean:
1)apps2sd = /manage applications/<application name>/Move to sd?
2)apps2sd = App on teh market that uses the mechanism in 1) to move in bulk?
3)apps2sd = a2sd/+ script that moves apps to ext partiton?
Yes, FAT is the main data storage partition

I have installed app2sd and then done
Cache2SD
adb shell
/sd-ext/userinit.d/10cache2sdext-binds enable
Data2SD
adb shell
/sd-ext/userinit.d/11data2sdext-binds enable
Now, after reset there is not a single installed application, not even gmail. Even those installed on system partition before (not moved to SD card) are gone and I can't even access Market to reinstall them.
Is this normal? What can I do now?

gmail is not installed with cm, and if u not find it on the market mean is not available in ur country
this is not related to app2sd things..ur orignal problem was the space..with the app2sd u should have solved it now..reinstall all ur apps (leave ur apps on the internal memory, they will automatically moved on the ext) and u shouln't get anymore low space messages

How can I reinstall them if I don't even have Market anymore?

maybe u didn't read cm instructions ya?
after flash cm, u have to flash in recovery the gapps package here
this contains the market

before u said "after reset"..what means?

I mean "after reboot".
I just tried installing gapps for CM but evne though the installation looked successful, after reboot I still cannot see any new apps, including the market.
I also cannot install any nightly build over current RM 7.1 as I am getting an ERROR during installation attempt.

After few tries, I managed to install newest nightly build (7.1 RC won't install at all as it says the zip is BAD even though md5 is correct).
Anyway, I installed google apps afterwards, but I only got google talk in the app menu. Still no Market...

If it is possible to use SD-card for storing some of the system folders on wildfire S ?
I`m using Link2SD - it is awesome! But after installing apps even after moving/linking them to SD looks like there is still something stayed on the internal memory. Finally after installing some amount of apps - you do not have any more free space on internal.
One more similar question - how to change "downloads" directory to some folder on SD? If you have still some free space on Internal (for example 20mb) and you want to update some application which need 21mb (and it is already installed) - you will not be able to do it, because there is no enough space on internal. So you must delete your app, download the updated installation file and install it. Is it possible to download apps directly to the SD ?

about second thing download app i dont know about it..but it can solve by clearing cache(delete downloaded app )
and yeah there is one script which can provide you space upto 1 GB and its fast,stable.use int2ext from cronmod.(your rom should have init.d support)

I`m currently using Link2SD.
here is a line from int2ext thread:
Install
....
-Select "format /sd-ext"
if this will clear data from my existing sd-ext partition?
P.S.
I know about cache-clearing, but this also is a limited-time solution. int2ext looks much better...

int2ext will only work if you flash it right after flashing rom..it's not like you can flash that script anytime.
but you can use titanium backup and backup all your data then flash your rom again and then flash int2ext and format /sd-ext and reboot.
you will have now 1 GB space.(As per your sd-ext partition)
and yeah rom should have init.d support.

Thanks a lot. It is working now and it is exactly what i need. Thanks one more time!

I get some problems now. I have a lot of free space on system (>200mb), but when GooglePlay is trying to update apps - "Low disk space" message appear. Looks like some folder which is used for temporary gplay downloads is still on phones memory.
How to fix this?

hi link2sd appears that it not working in my phone
1- i rooted my phone (GALAXY ACE s5830i)
2- i used cwm recovery to partation the 4gb sd card into 1024 mb and 0 swap (ext 3)
the proplem is when i link an apllicaton to sd my internal memory decrease not increasing
and when press move to sd it works but link to sd not works as i said in the previous
so can any one help me ?????
i need link2sd because the internal memory is 190 mb only

So why do you think that posting your Galaxy Ace problem in the HTC Desire Q&As section is a good idea? Try asking in your phone's section.
Anyhow, try partitioning with Gparted.

Remember each device has it's own section....so you should have posted here
However, I also rooted that phone for my sister, link2sd is not a good method. You actually no longer need to 'move to SD', as that does move it to the sd-ext partition but the FAT32 partition. You have to keep it on internal, link it using the app, then reboot I think, kind of clumsy
Regardless, i gave up on link2sd because it wasn't an efficient method for me, especially when apps got updated, and memory still ran out.
I found CronMod INT2EXT script worked best.
- Backup your sd card
- Repartition your sd card using gparted (find a video guide), ~1.5GB ext4 partition, the rest FAT32, no swap.
- Copy contents back to sd card
- Titanium backup or similar all apps if necessary
- Nandroid backup (just in case)
- Full wipe and reinstall ROM, reboot
- Reboot back into recovery, flash INT2EXT4+ script, as it leaves data on internal for better speed
- Now restore your apps etc. Don't 'Move to SD' with this script either. Just keep on internal will trick them to sd-ext.
- Install an app such as 'DiskUsage' to browse your partitions to check they're working correctly.

[GUIDE] get more space internal memory by simple configure link2sd

this my favorite tricks for get more space internal memory, i installed 70 apps, and free memory is 41mb,. Simple and stable guys....
How to configure :
1- after installing a rom configure link2sd and choose link auto
2- install EVERY app on internal memory and after link, if some goes to sdcard move it to internal and after that you can create a link
3- sometimes i go to link2sd>menu button>more: relink all apk files, relink all lib files, link dalvik cache and clean dalvik cache
after you link a apk if want to see the real free space you'll need to reboot the phone... Link2sd is a great app i think thats better than int2ext scripts but you need to learn how to use correctly, with time you get it !!
