Hey fellow WP7 users,
first of all, it's pure speculation, but that's what Bill Cox, Senior Director, Communications - Windows Phone Division at Microsoft tweeted a few minutes ago:
Big day for Windows Phone: Angry Birds, Epicurious, Eventful, Dictionary.com, Kik, GoWalla. And a juicy surprise for tomorrow...

Juicy surprise? Now if a Mango ain't juicy, what else is?
[Edit]
updated post. See the related blog article with instructions on how to get your developer mango pre-release right now.
Would be nice! =D. Might just be a juicy app or more announcements about o.s features...

Nice catch! Crossing my fingers for epic stuff tomorrow!
Where is the tweet? I wanna see it with my own eyes!

Here you go.. Don't know how to link it though, sorry.
I'm relieved that the surprise is not Angry Birds. Hate this game.
Hope it's mango for developers! Mango hardwares wouldn't help me either.
And thanks for the image.. not that I didn't believe, is just nice to see from your own eyes (;
i would just love if anyone would find a way to make it possible to somehow port this beta for all xda users
I spent a couple of minutes thinking about it. Would it make sense to promise a huge surprise and then reveal it to be the awaited developer pre-release of mango? This would definitely leave all non-developers behind and thus disappoint a lot of users out there. So I think the surprise will be something else. Or maybe they decided to make the pre-release available for all.

yeah but the question is which devs get it? student and pay devs or just paid devs? that's the question
I mean its a great week for microsoft. They're stepping their game up because of
DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS
Because it's a tweet from Bill Cox and not Brandon Watson I would think it's something for everyone rather than just developers. Something people have been asking for for a long time that's finally making it to WP7. I personally keep my fingers crossed for WLM as they could have it both integrated to the OS and with its own app like facebook and twitter.
All in all I don't think it's the Mango beta but rather something the average user will enjoy.
Maybe Skype?
That's what Neowin has to contribute on the topic.
or maybe for the first time MS will announce that mango will be out in july insted of fall....
first time before the scheduled date...

no way, because skype with what? all the currently devices don't have front facing camera...
I may over interprete his statement, but Mr. Cox explicitly said juicy surprise. So if they are not going to announce Fruit Ninja 2 or something similar, I have no idea what besides Mango they could mean.
Interpretation
1) i hope. they release mango for all. this would be the perfect surprise like steve jobs when he is shows a new iphone in the end of a presantation a new iphone.
2) they release mango earlyer. the pre versions in the videos are very smooth.
3) they release mango to the developers
or only juiced ninja would be free for a day.....
time will tell
Well, it's not speculation anymore. See this.
Get the 7.1 beta 2 dev tools that allow Mango deployment here:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=26648
Note, you need to be a registered AppHub developer to put Mango on your retail phone.
EDIT: You MUST uninstall the 7.1 beta 1 dev tools before installing beta 2. This just took me around 20 minutes on a Core 2 Duo, so carry on reading more juicy Mango info while that's happening
It's awesome! Omg, cant wait to taste Mango!
-
Wait wait.. just noticed that now.. retail device?
So it will not work with my unlocked Trophy 7?!
I meant normal phones (carrier locked/unbranded/unlocked).
AFAIK there's nothing in the release notes or the blog post that suggests unlocked devices won't be compatible with this build

Some good stuff coming up but having to wait for Fall is painful. They should have at least one update in the meantime to fix some of the known bugs.

I think its good that customers air some sense of urgency as it will keep MS on their feet. In business when your customers constantly nag you about your products or services it serves only to direct you towards improving said products. So if anything customers showing an interest in things being made better is good and even more so when they push for deadlines to be met
Is anyone going to consolidate all the WP7 anouncements from MiX11???
Or can someone post a link so other people can see some of the GREAT stuff thats coming to WP7
I was going to do that but I haven't seen a link with everything yet.
One interesting thing I picked up on Ch9Live was someone asked if Devs will get access to Mango on thier phones before its release.
The answer was that they are committed that registered developers with dev unlocked phones will have access to mango. They havent solved it yet, but are absolutly commited to it.

lol @ resetting phone every few weeks
It's hard to consolidate everything because, frankly, that was a lot of info. And, furthermore, there's a lot to come yet - like it was mentioned briefly that there will be new pickers and choosers, but which ones is to be announced later.
Yeah, I think it will be a while before all the relivent info is pulled togather from MiX11.
I for one am quite excited about what snipits i've read so far with what is coming to WP7.
I used to be an android user back in the 1.6 hero day and saw how android has developed into arguable the biggest and best OS in smartphones.
I genuinly believe WP7 has the potential to challenege RiM, Apple, and Android and with all these great noises coming out from MiX 11 maybe just maybe it could dominate the WWWWWWWWORLD......MMMMMMMWAAAHAHAHAHA.....
One interesting point is that the dev tools for Mango are due to be released next month. In the Q&A session afterwards it was mentioned that a Mango build will be made available for developer-unlocked devices to allow testing of apps with the new SDK.
Microsoft is back on the track, these new features are amasing, very exciting about the conference today by joe belfiore
Good info here...
http://www.readwriteweb.com/mobile/2011/04/Mango-new-version-of-Windows-Phone-arriving-this-fall.php
So 6 months from now to update (Fall there is September, right?). If this is right, I'm assuming that the update is about to arrive at October.
The problem with that, is wait for new APIs. I want Whatsapp!
Ah, btw, nothing was mentioned about Windows Live Messenger. That is sad.
whats this live tiles thjing about? My HTC doesnt have this problem, is it specific mobiles?

Despite universal *****ing about the nodo update ballsup, all MSFT has done is post a page that essentially says "coming soon..." with no mention of when "soon" is. So unless we all cancel our contracts, return our devices and stop buying anything remotely connected to MSFT, I doubt we'll see anything more responsive out of Redmond.
Subtle doesn't work on heads that thick. Upside the head with a crowbar might, if it's King Kong doing it.

Hehe crow bar to the head of any one operating inefficiently would be my rememdy as well But joking aside, you do have a point in that the "coming soon" or "TBA" or "TDA" of alot of things to do with WP7 is frustrating. I think the only way consumers can ensure MS stays on track and does release any information is to keep asking "when will feature A or B be released" or "when is patch D going to be pushed out" it may be subtle but negative press that is garnered by constant negative exposure does help companies see where they are doing things wrong and where they can fix things.
WP7 after Mango is released and implemented will mark a milestone in its growth. It will no longer have the excuse "we are the new kid on the block and need time to catch up" no, after Mango they have to focus their efforts on improving communication with operators and oems so updates push out better, faster and efficiently, this Pre-Nodo/NoDo fiasco will not look good in 2012 if say the next batch of update (Guava, Tomato or whatever it will called) encounters nodo problems in a post mango age.
So for now let keep those crow bars under the bed and in a few months if no changes then we can make a field trip down to redmond with crow bars in hand Piaqt
Anyone know what phone he was using for showing the gyro api? Was it the htc pro or hd7? Do our phones have gyro sensors built in?
Btw, loved the presentation , the quantas app was brilliant
Copy from Neowin.net. If this is old news, mod pls close thread.
Today, the slew of "pre-Mango" posts began. Were you suspicious about why the sudden posting? It's because Microsoft has been giving out the build to the press ahead of the Mango Beta release, which is due to be announced within the next 24 hours.
Neowin has received multiple independent tips that the beta will be made available for all devices through the MSDN Create hub for those with developer accounts, on June 22/23, with Microsoft set to make the announcement sometime during the next 24 hours. The beta will not be restricted to "favorite" developers but will be generally available to anyone with a paid subscription, and will be able to be loaded on any of the production devices.
The timing of the claims line up, as do the legitimacy of the claims considering the amount of reviews that have just appeared. Also, if you look at multiple reviews, each one uses a different device. There aren't any Mango events worldwide for this specific launch, so we expect a release will appear on Microsoft's PressPass site soon.
Mango brings a new set of features to the platform, including IE9 support, full IM integration, performance improvements and multitasking and is expected to be released in September of this year for general availability.
Update: Neowin used multiple sources to comfirm this news. The sources used to confirm this article are reliable, and this news is not considered a rumor currently. In addition, the software giant is planning on handing out developer devices to VIP devlopers as part of the announcement.

Seriously, if that happens, I will trave to USA to kiss Balmer's bald head!
So if you feel like it you can pay $99 to get Mango now .
Well if it's available to developers than there will be ways to install it on other phones too.
I have no idea how that's supposed to work though via the official channel. Full ROM flash?
personally i think its crap. Until someone confrims it. Joe Belfiore himself confired via twitter that they will be handing mango devices.
I've read about that on several sources too. Now if that turns out to be true I will have pre-release Mango within the next 2 days. oO Woohoo! Sadly a lot of the features won't be available right now. Like Twitter integration in the peoples hub and such. But I guess there'll be additional releases like that until Microsoft releases the final build to all customers.
@androidkiller
So joe says he will hand mango devices.. which means its crap that microsoft that will release the ROM?
theres no logic there

Zune maybe... They know if you are a developer, so they can push trough a message that your phone has an update. Or maybe you have to make a request on the apphub and than it will be pushed trough zune...

That's my thought too. The key part of his tweet to me is "this week". That means there (likely) won't be a developer release right now, but it also implies that next week there very likely could be.

Whats going on with XDA Portal??? All I can see there is news about Android apps, themes, rooted devices and nothing else more.
I simple dont get it, there is already a major WP7 breakthrough with a Mango 7713 Custom ROM for HTC WP7 First Generation from DFT talked all over the place but not a single word from XDA Portal, or did I missed something?
Is everyone here hypnotized with Android?
What do you WP7 fans have to say?
Thanks

There was an article last week about a Mango custom ROM for the HD7, I think. In any case, it's based on the news writers and which forums they browse around in. I think only egzthunder1 is still a WM user.
i think you just have to wait. As more people turn to wp7 you'll hear more and more news about it. Also the reason android is mentioned so much is because most the phones run android and you also get a lot of news about the phone itself rather than the os.

That article was about HSPL/RSPL for HTC WP7 devices released by DFT and I am glad someone published it. Now we just need kitchen tools and start cooking it.
I really dont understand this lack of interest about WP7 as I have been playing with Mango for awhile and think that is so much better than Android.
As a side note this message was send from an Android device because my HD7 run out of battery. Android is fun too.

Indeed. As was expressed earlier, your feedback is definitely appreciated.
Though we generally try to have the Portal act as a microcosm for the site's activity as a whole, we could stand to have a little more WP7. As Orb3000 mentioned, please feel free to PM any of us in the News Writers user group if you see that we have missed anything important in the WinMo or WP7 worlds. We would be delighted to write about it.
Thank you, once again, for your feedback.
When I spot any WP7 developments I tip off Egz (or anyone else I can find online) - I'm claiming credit for the HSPL article tip .
I'm just busy IRL at the moment and not keeping up with the developments every day.
To be fair to the team, not much has happened in the WP7 until recently
And the show goes on and on and ...
This is a disgrace for WP7 members. We really have to dig if we want to find WP7 news.
Well we still have wpcentral.
I really hope WP7 can take off. I like Android but WP7 is prettier and snappier. If there comes a time when my must-have .apks have an equivalent or superior on WP7 I'll totally switch. Those must-have .apks used to be .cabs and that's what held me onto WinMo for so long. I was waiting forever for garmin to sell me an android app but instead they just bought navigon... Works for me...
Like i was stated a couple months ago, we go where the news is. I have not seen many suggested news in the lines of WinMo7 since this thread was originally started. Once again, if you see something news worthy, please let us know so we can get on top of it. We are a small group and do not always catch things immediately.
Bingo, what TRM said is absolutely true. On top of that, most writers use Android and unfortunately, it is very hard to keep tabs or even review apps when you don't even have a device to test things on.
I just got a WP7.5 device, so we may start seeing more of this in the Portal...
Coupled with the fact that the portal guys work really hard to find new, relevant content.
And in this day and age, that is primarily Android content, based on marketshare and usage levels.
Perhaps wp7 will pick up a bit, but it's still not gaining much ground

Come on guys, as I said in a previous post I am sure you are doing your best but If you look to the Portal it is all about Android, there is nothing about windows phone.
Custom Roms, apps, tricks and device root and device reviews are only about Android. If there is a first custom rom for an Android device this is almost instantly reviewed, if there is a new outstanding app for Android it is posted immediatly, and so on...
Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against Android or Android Members, in fact I have an Asus device with Android too, but when was the last time something about windows phone was posted in the Portal?
We are a few Windows Phone fans here but we were Thousands back in the WM6.5 good old days so I think we deserve some attention too from the news writers.
Again, please dont take these personnal statements as an attack, that is not my intention. But, as a Windows Phone lover I feel sorry to see WP7 being left behind by this community that I love so much.

Perhaps people are betting on the wrong horse. It is predicted that there will be more windowsphone devices in 2016 then iphones. This is calculated by analists of IDC. Other analists confirms this evolution. The growth of android will stop soon too.
I think that the intrest in windowsphone will grow with the growing part of windowsphone in the market. So I am not worried at all. It will only be better.
Personally I don't like android at all (nor Iphone).

Hi dotcompt,
Thanks for the heads up. You bring up a very valid point, and I will make an effort to address this. While we do indeed have more Android users here, and thus more Android development, WP7 is a fantastic OS that should not be ignored. I apologize for the inconvenience.
To alleviate it, would you be so kind as to PM me personally when you have content suggestions? I would gladly publish any story about WP7 as long as it's relevant development work. And on that note, thank you much for contributing to the community with your development efforts.

Here we sit knee deep in August hoping that the next update will bridge the gap between our device of choice and other platforms. Currently there are rumors flying about that the platform's salvation comes September 1st in the form of the Mango update. Further down the line their is talk of a Tango update. All of this encouraging considering most of us bought into a product they we can all safetly say was in beta form of what was being promise. While the reviews thus far have been good one can only hope these milestones do not dissapoint. Follow the link below for more. http://www.l337ware.com/

First off "Mango Tango" sounds utterly cool. Second don't hate. Lastly How many similiar post were there? Because honestly I saw like a grip talking about the free release. Like XDA kinda got bombarded. I wouldn't take it personally. I can delete this post if it would make you feel better.
Note : There were about 400+ people interested enough in the subject material. After reading this if they so decided moved on to the link and which linked an XDA master post about the core unpolished material though not in redundancy to the my original post (along with various other options). I see those numbers on my end and it was significant. Realize my site is a non profit entity which honestly I dont really care if anyone visits but I share stuff with this forum. Do you realize how many duplicate posts I probably just staved off? Also I've been on these forums since the PPC 6600 and did ask the powers that be about establishing a relationship between the two sites.

Why do people continue to call the WinPhone release a beta? It was in final form for its 1.0 release, it wasn't a beta because it lacked features which got you all upset. Would we all have preferred other features? Of course, but to say it was in beta is ridiculous. I guess iOS and Android are in beta because they don't support Live Messenger or Facebook in their messaging services.

Would we all have preferred other features? Of course, but to say it was in beta is ridiculous. I guess iOS and Android are in beta because they don't support Live Messenger or Facebook in their messaging services.

No, we call it a beta because alot ot things are broken and or missing. The OS can't hold up to intensive use and alot of things that were hyped up were never delivered in it's initial release.
Missing? They weren't missing, just weren't part of the 1.0 release

The OS working wasn't part of the 1.0 release. Perfect example the inevitable lock up that would occur requiring reset of the phone after scrolling through the market place with any frequency other than brief. That is one of like a thousand problems not all of which have been addressed even now. Don't get me wrong I'm a Microsoft nut. From gaming console, to PC, to Tablet, and finally to phone but even I have to concede the Q&A on WP7's initial release sucked. It's one of the reasons my wife ditched her HD7 and will probably never come back to the OS.
Bugs do occur in release products, doesn't make it beta... All software in this world is in beta according to your logic.

There are standards applied to a final release. I'd almost dare saying Windows Phone was alot like Vista at it's release. It lacked the polish of a finished product.
maybe those are hd7 bugs? i never had any issues with v1, nor do my friends have. there is the occasional lock-up that is about once every other month. same as on an iphone for me.
it worked, delivered the promised functionality, and had a good feature set FOR A PHONE. yes, not for the "i actually want everything possible i could do on my laptop, too, and it should make me coffee, too" nerd type. but for the typical PHONE usage (you know, sms, calls, browsing the web a bit, doing some smarter things like mail, people management, dates and stuff), it worked pretty well. now on mango, there's much more, of course. but v1 worked, and it did well. still does for my friends. good enough to not have to pre-update them to mango. they like what they see on my phone, but are happy enough to not bother about pre-updating manually.

This thread is in regards to the future windows phone OS update Tango, while I believe you are referring to the video calling software for WP7.5 called Tango.
Basically, wrong thread mate.
Come on, where's all the doubters that claimed ms would not be able to pull off a mango update till next year some time huh???? Well looks like yall were wrong!!!
Go check the wheresmyphoneupdate website and you will notice mango is being DELIVERED to all carriers as we speak.
Congratulations Microsoft and thank you. Now please get busy on Tango and Apollo. ;-)

I said this in a thread earlier, and one of them acted completely lost about it, I found it a bit funny.
That's what I thought, no where to be heard. Silent.

Even I didn't expect Microsoft to handle it as well as they did. Everything was flawless.

I'm one of them, and I'm right here enjoying my new operating system.
Just because I was cynical doesn't mean I'm upset about being proven wrong? I was calling for Q2 2012 (which I have mentioned in another thread btw), and I was definitely proven wrong. Which is fantastic.
But let's also be clear, I did the disconnect method. If not, I didn't think it'd come through naturally until at least November, maybe even end of December.
Next, I would like to ask all the people that said WP would fail like the Kin to post their "revised" thoughts....
And 1 year from now when Apollo is released, when WP finally has some respectable market share (thanks to Mango) I want to re-ask that same question....
LOL

I have to admit myself I was surprised how fast I got the update. I did no hacking at all to get RTM. I was on 7712 and yesterday around 1PM plugged my phone into Zune and BOOM, there it was!
But I never did think it would take them forever like it did with Nodo. I think they learned a lot from Nodo fiasco.
they're feeling too salty to post.

Actually, all phones will have received the update halfway through October. This isn't like NoDo, not even close.
I just want to say thank you Microsoft. The rest is evident

A nice thread to negate the crap happening everywhere esle in the forum.
Being a UK users, I do not get all the goodies, but there are ways around some.

I see what the OP's point is, but this definitely not a positive thread

I don't think you and others were the target of positivity - WP and Microsoft were

Well, it is essentially an off-handed compliment to Microsoft and WP7. In that sense, it's positive. Other than that, this thread does kind of make a point about human behavior. Naysayers almost always disappear when they are wrong.
Funny thing about this entire Mango (non)incident is that Microsoft implied that Mango may not be out until some time in 2012 at various points around its announcement.
I'm one of the people who didn't expect Mango until 2012.
This post doesn't really do anything. It was a win/win for me: either they prove me right by fumbling this update like NoDo or they prove me wrong by delivering a huge update to my phone.
I was wrong but I still win so there's nothing for me to be salty about.

Nothing personal but you bring up a good point.
In sports talk, they call this a fair-weather fan. When their team is winning, they run around waving a banner. When their team is losing, they speak in doom and gloom how the team will never do anything right. When their team starts winning again, everyone is so happy they forget about the behavior of the fair-weather fan. In essence, the fair-weather fan seems to be able to have his cake and eat it too. So, it's a win-win if you will.

These two posts = the point I was trying to make on the first page.
I don't think most people cared or thought that. At least not the decently intelligent ones. Microsoft took a year to get Mango out the door. That was long enough to stop caring for a lot of people. The issue was never if they could do it before 2012, it was if they could do it before it started looking like they wanted to use it as an incentive to sell 2nd gen phones.
And they pretty much did just that by releasing such unfutureproof devices last year and taking so long to get the update out.
The update is good, but it's all bittersweet to me.

Yea, there are lots of fair-weather fans here in Philly, especially with the Phillies & Eagles.
I wouldn't consider myself one of those. I would consider myself a fan who voices his concerns & opinions, usually with four letter words. I'm still a fan of the winning team, but I can't not let you know that your defensive line sucks against the run, or that your lineup doesn't seem to have it's head in the game.
I actually would consider the people who beat the 2012 drum responsible for MS to move at the speed they did. Instead of being salty, we should actually be proud.
