MIX'11 Official Announcements - Windows Phone 7 General

Some good stuff coming up but having to wait for Fall is painful. They should have at least one update in the meantime to fix some of the known bugs.
Bummer.
WPCentral Summary of the keynote: http://www.wpcentral.com/wp7-keynote-summarised
Demos from MIX 11 by Channel9: http://channel9.msdn.com/Blogs/Windows-Phone-7/Windows-Phone-7-Announcements--Demos-from-MIX-11-with-Joe-Belfiore
Engadget report with video: http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/13/this-is-windows-phone-next-developers-take-notes-video/
New Chassis unveiled: http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2011/04/14/new-windows-phone-7-chassis-unveiled-msm7x30-and-msm8x55/

Everything anybody has asked for - both user and developer side - were announced with the exception of voice navigation... I feel a lot of things have still been left unannounced... But wow, Joe's presentation was amazing tbh

Yeah I should put my phone in a box and get it out after Mango. I'm just tired of resetting my phone every few weeks to get my tiles and notifications working.
The future looks bright though.

While I understand the frustration... I think that's a bit extreme. I wouldn't worry about it, I doubt it'll take til Mango for a patch

You wanna take that bet? I say no patch before Mango, that's a sure win.

I think its good that customers air some sense of urgency as it will keep MS on their feet. In business when your customers constantly nag you about your products or services it serves only to direct you towards improving said products. So if anything customers showing an interest in things being made better is good and even more so when they push for deadlines to be met

Is anyone going to consolidate all the WP7 anouncements from MiX11???
Or can someone post a link so other people can see some of the GREAT stuff thats coming to WP7

I was going to do that but I haven't seen a link with everything yet.

One interesting thing I picked up on Ch9Live was someone asked if Devs will get access to Mango on thier phones before its release.
The answer was that they are committed that registered developers with dev unlocked phones will have access to mango. They havent solved it yet, but are absolutly commited to it.

lol @ resetting phone every few weeks

It's hard to consolidate everything because, frankly, that was a lot of info. And, furthermore, there's a lot to come yet - like it was mentioned briefly that there will be new pickers and choosers, but which ones is to be announced later.

Yeah, I think it will be a while before all the relivent info is pulled togather from MiX11.
I for one am quite excited about what snipits i've read so far with what is coming to WP7.
I used to be an android user back in the 1.6 hero day and saw how android has developed into arguable the biggest and best OS in smartphones.
I genuinly believe WP7 has the potential to challenege RiM, Apple, and Android and with all these great noises coming out from MiX 11 maybe just maybe it could dominate the WWWWWWWWORLD......MMMMMMMWAAAHAHAHAHA.....

One interesting point is that the dev tools for Mango are due to be released next month. In the Q&A session afterwards it was mentioned that a Mango build will be made available for developer-unlocked devices to allow testing of apps with the new SDK.

Microsoft is back on the track, these new features are amasing, very exciting about the conference today by joe belfiore

Good info here...
http://www.readwriteweb.com/mobile/2011/04/Mango-new-version-of-Windows-Phone-arriving-this-fall.php

So 6 months from now to update (Fall there is September, right?). If this is right, I'm assuming that the update is about to arrive at October.
The problem with that, is wait for new APIs. I want Whatsapp!
Ah, btw, nothing was mentioned about Windows Live Messenger. That is sad.

whats this live tiles thjing about? My HTC doesnt have this problem, is it specific mobiles?

Despite universal *****ing about the nodo update ballsup, all MSFT has done is post a page that essentially says "coming soon..." with no mention of when "soon" is. So unless we all cancel our contracts, return our devices and stop buying anything remotely connected to MSFT, I doubt we'll see anything more responsive out of Redmond.
Subtle doesn't work on heads that thick. Upside the head with a crowbar might, if it's King Kong doing it.

Hehe crow bar to the head of any one operating inefficiently would be my rememdy as well But joking aside, you do have a point in that the "coming soon" or "TBA" or "TDA" of alot of things to do with WP7 is frustrating. I think the only way consumers can ensure MS stays on track and does release any information is to keep asking "when will feature A or B be released" or "when is patch D going to be pushed out" it may be subtle but negative press that is garnered by constant negative exposure does help companies see where they are doing things wrong and where they can fix things.
WP7 after Mango is released and implemented will mark a milestone in its growth. It will no longer have the excuse "we are the new kid on the block and need time to catch up" no, after Mango they have to focus their efforts on improving communication with operators and oems so updates push out better, faster and efficiently, this Pre-Nodo/NoDo fiasco will not look good in 2012 if say the next batch of update (Guava, Tomato or whatever it will called) encounters nodo problems in a post mango age.
So for now let keep those crow bars under the bed and in a few months if no changes then we can make a field trip down to redmond with crow bars in hand Piaqt

Anyone know what phone he was using for showing the gyro api? Was it the htc pro or hd7? Do our phones have gyro sensors built in?
Btw, loved the presentation , the quantas app was brilliant

what day should we be expecting this january update?

Or do we only know its going to be in january at somepoint
Well, everyone keeps saying sometime in January but where did we even get that from? Microsoft post something?
I think Microsoft said 'sometime early in 2011' but everyone started saying January...
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is delivering the pre-show keynote on January 5th. One could assume that there would be other minor updates before Mango is released in the fall. Foley also mentioned the possibility of a Windows Phone 8 (codenamed Apollo) launch in late 2012.

Sure would be nice if they would pull a Sega Saturn and announce a decent update and tell us that it will be available that day
Wishful thinking I guess...
I hope its within the next 2 weeks or so. Microsoft really has to get the ball rolling on these updates to close the gap.
I think for a brand new operating system Microsoft have done a very good job and I am sure as and when updates occur it will only get better.
Patience is a virtue
Probably march. I honestly don't expect the update this month. As awesome as that would be. I REALLY hope this update is as amazing as all the hype everyone has for it.

I don't actually use copy and paste on my mobile phone. I am guessing that they will probably update all their phones when they launch the CDMA versions of Windows Phone 7.

They came from sites like Engadget, Gizmodo, Pocketnow and others, reporting the Jan. and Feb updates. For the Feb update, it was supposed to be so massive that it could be considered WP8. Now, however, MS has reported a massive update for Aug/Sep. Reading between the lines, one can expect the first two updates...if they actually do happen...to be minimal at best.

That's how I feel about the Internet button on Android Nexus One/T-Mobile G2 builds. All 3 of the buttons are permanent in the OEM launcher and the Internet button is a waste of space. It's rarely used.
But I have used the WP7 search button quite frequently in apps like the Marketplace or Zune.
the search button is actually quite useful if programmed by the app. for example, i work at a bank and if we made a proper app, the search button can be utilised for transaction searching, or address book searching.

How did you get board express working. Mine hasn't worked since the last update.
Edit: nevermind. Its working again.
I'm expecting news about the first update on Wednesday later this week. That's when Microsoft is having a keynote speech at CES, so it's the most likely event for them to present the first update and show off the new features/improvements.
Regarding the second update, it is logical to think it would come in February at Mobile World Congress. However I think the two updates are a little too close together, so this part of the rumor may be wishful thinking. There's definitely a chance this could still happen though.
Now, what's actually going to be in each update is still a question. I'm assuming both will bring some bug squashing and at least one will hopefully make those annoying camera settings finally 'stick'. I think multitasking is still far off (probably with the 'Mango' release), but I think we could see Bing Maps Navigation in the second update. They've done it before with WM6.5 so I hope they can do it quickly for WP7.

I read somewhere a few weeks ago that the bing maps team that were developing for 6.5 were redeployed at very short notice back in July in order to get working on turn-by-turn navigation for WP7. That's why turn by turn nav on 6.5 disappeared back then. Not that anybody outside of the US ever got to use turn by turn on 6.5.
I would imagine that turn by turn will make an appearance in January, but probably only for the US initially. Most other markets (my own is Ireland) don't even get local searches in bing, so it is actually impossible to even search for a street address in this market as of now. We dont even get POI listings (restaurants, post offices etc).
I'm all for not getting your hopes up, but come on. Do you REALLY think that those Verizon apps that got leaked in the Marketplace were just for show?
CDMA support is obviously coming in January, no later than that. And what will we need to even have CDMA support? That's right, an update. Might as well go ahead and drop copy and paste in there (which is already READY for god sakes, an early version was even showed in a video last month, or did you all forget) as well as other confirmed updates like custom ringtones and such.
Probably a separate update dedicated to multitasking in February. In fact, MS already has the tech set in place for this. Go play a song in the music/videos hub. Now go surf the net or write an e-mail. Hell, go do anything on your phone. The song is still playing.
Basically, it's technically already enabled in the OS itself. We all know this. All they need to do to make it happen for 3rd party apps is update the developer tools to enable it to be utilized, and push out an update with a suitable task manager.
Use your brains people. It IS Microsoft but then again it is Microsoft. We used to expect them to not deliver in timely fashions but in the past few years they've gotten a lot better with that. And with all the money they're pouring into Windows Phone 7, it's obviously not just a little thought in the back of their heads. On the contrary, it's important enough to make them NOT wait until late 2011 to push out some of the stuff I outlined above.

my two cents about wp7 and nodo update

I've been sitting on the sidelines not being vocal, but I think there's something we need to consider...
When we got our wp7 phones we need what features were lacking. If you didn't you should have done some research before you bought the phone. Wp7 is still in its infancy and expect there to be bugs and problems. If you wanted something more concrete should have stick with your iphone or Android. For what we do have everything seems to run pretty smooth.
Im not going to lie, but I curious about the nodo update. But im glad I haven't received it. Because then our phones will be locked and the homebrew segment and actual limited customization will be gone. Until someone of course finds a work around. And someone always does. And honestly, on your old phones how many of you even knew it had a copy.paste feature? Instead of focusing on nodo update which doesn't really do much, except speed up our phones, why no concentrate more on mango! Mango is the update that we all should want! Just my two cents. Btw i use a HTC hd7 on tmobile USA and its done everything i wanted without any problems!
I think people are focusing on Nodo because it's the 1st update and it will give us an idea about how Microsoft will handle the platform.
If they can't even handle a small update with almost nothing in it, this is worrying for the future. If they need 5 months to release such a small update, when will we get Mango? it's nice to make big promises about Mango but I'm starting to believe Thurrott when he says 2012 when you consider Microsoft's pace. I couldn't care less about Nodo, I don't use C&P that much and it doesn't fix the bugs people really care about like Live Tiles and push notifications not working. It only fixes one bug and that's the marketplace one.
And how long until we stop saying "they've just started, give them time"? After 6 months they should be about to deliver their 2nd update and be talking about the next one. Even if it's in 3 months, at least talk about it! They act like they don't give a sh*t and I'm sure soon people will start trading their phones and go back to Android/iOS.
That's true too. But considering this is their first update we can't assume things will be perfect. Now if the next major update rolls out and there's still issues with updating I for would question Microsoft. But I see your point of view. Perhaps Microsoft was releasing this small update to see how their update system would work? Dunno, but don't give up on Microsoft just yet. Trust me, I miss my android G2, but my wp7 phone hasn't let me done yet. And I was just thinking, do we really need multitasking? That could open up a whole new can of worms.
A can of good worms. Especially in the Modding scene.

Same here. I'm really starting to get worried that it'll be like everyone feared.
Oh well, I really thought they would up their game with this.
Still a great phone, just now I know it won't be supported.
I'm still not quite sure what carriers have to do with updating the phone. The update comes through Zune. C&P can't screw up a network, neither can the marketplace not crashing all the time.
In other words, this update fiasco is purely MS's fault.
Be it that they didn't make a better deal with carriers, they underestimated logistics, they haven't been forthright with customers, it is the fault of MS.
On the other hand. If you bought the phone because some said someone at MS said an update was coming out soon that would add C&P, I can see how you'd be pissed off, but you'd still be silly for buying a phone based on a rumor as opposed to its merits, which are plentiful.
My problem with this whole thing is:
1/. If MS was gonna stay mum and not update us on the delays, they should've STFU all the way until they announced a concrete date for the update.
2/. If MS was gonna talk about updates, they should've kept us posted all the way instead of tidbits here and there.
The way their going about it making it so some can't even recommend WP7 because of this update fiasco. I mean, since when couldn't MS send out bug fixes? I get one almost every week for my PC and that OS is way more complicated than a phone OS.
That's so true. They shouldn't make promises they can't keep. And if they say something and it dont go right atleast keep us in the loop. I also agree its hard to reccomend a phone where the support from Microsoft seems to be very spotty. So my question is, is it still too early to tell the future of wp7? I guess now I can understand why some people are asking about trying to dual boot on our phones. So is it the carriers fault, Microsoft fault, or the OEMs hardware fault we're not getting updates? And since we have to update through Zune, what do the carriers have anything to do with the updates?
I think what is forgotten here is that XDA is a geek forum. Most people do not have a clue about copy and paste. They want to hear music surf the web and take pictures. We easily forget that we are not normal consumers.

Hear, hear! Allowing a maximum of 15 apps with notifications was a huge oversight on their part, and afaik there are still no plans to fix this.
As for the marketplace bugs, from what I can tell not even all of those are fixed in the No[Can]Do upgrade. Probably because this particular update has been sitting on the MS servers since January waiting for an actual release.

The messed up part is that this is an advantage.
While they were ironing out whatever back-alley deals they had to iron out with the carriers, they could've been taking notes on what actual people in the know on forums like these had to ***** about.
They could've then slipped a few of the fixes, swapped a few 1s with 0s in the code, tweaked it around just a bit to make the OS even better.
Instead, we're going to get the update verbatim, the geek world is going to laugh and MS is gonna wonder where it all went wrong for the umpteenth time.
Probably just a reiteration of what others have said, but nonetheless my opinion. Microsoft first said that the NoDo update would be coming early next year so most people assumed January, than they said late February (I think they did), then it was early March, and now its late March. This update merely adds copy + paste (along with a few bugfixes, one of which ISN'T for the camera) and that is a very basic feature! Apple just released iOS 4.3 (which updated the Safari javascript engine and some other stuff) AHEAD of schedule by 2 days and Microsoft keeps pushing back a minor update by weeks.
I'm pissed because I want WP7 to succeed. I used the device and I loved the device, but it's not nearly as good as its competitors as a whole. If Microsoft doesn't figure out what their doing WP7 will fail.
The general rule is you NEVER buy a phone based on what is "coming". You always buy based on what is in the phone when you bought it. I went through the same crap with blackberry, promising an os update to the storm 2 series. When OS6 came out they were like nope, not supporting that handset. Go buy a the touch.
I'm very satisfied with the Samsung Focus I have now, any future updates is just icing on the cake. You'll be sorely disappointed if you buy things based on promises
Sorry I will have to reiterate my post 'normal consumers' want to play music, surf the web play youtube and games most will not use copy and paste that is just a fact. I work in a theater with a varied range of people most do not even know they have copy and paste capabilities.

The update fixes 2 issues: Copy and Paste and the marketplace app. That's it!
If Apple had issues with broken notifications, they wouldn't wait 6 months to address these. Microsoft hasn't even acknowledged that issue.
People would moan less about missing features if everything already there was working properly.
sorta happy with the news
it doesn't fix the panoply of dell issues
it removes chevron
so wtf is the point of it again?
I say it gives xda more time to integrate a proper solution for sideloading
The problem is that M$ is attempting to play in the consumer space. They don't do that well. After their core OS/Office business, they got lucky with XBOX and everyone thinks they are good with the consumer. They aren't! They are great at the enterprise and that's it. And I'm not a fanboi. I bought into WHS, WMC, WP7 AND ZUNE. I know, I know. I feel taken each time. Great ideas but not follow through on those folks parts. Management must really get in the way.

While I agree that if it really is Samsung devices holding it up, that they should push the update out to everyone else, I must defend what I think is easily the best WP7 device on the market. The Samsung takes the best pictures, uses fast NAND memory, has a superb screen, and a sleek form-factor. If that means that I have to wait a few extra weeks for an update, so be it. My phone works great as is. I knew that it wasn't as fully featured as Android or iOS when I bought it, and I knew that the first year or two would likely be bumpy. I was ok with that then, and still am.
Sorry if my having the best Windows Phone causes a delay to updates for your phone.
Seriously guys, how are you that upset because of a delay in the copy and paste update? How much do you even use copy and paste on a smartphone? The only useful thing coming in NoDo is the Marketplace search fix and the speed increase in loading games.
I don't even think I'm going to update mine until Mango, or at least until they have a Homebrew solution. I can deal with the extra 10 seconds to load Fruit Ninja if that means keeping my Homebrew apps and Twin Blades (which will likely go away after the update).
I'd do the update if they included the few annoying features I don't like, like saving the camera settings, pause playback when disconnecting headphones on an incoming call, etc. but not for copy and paste. You lose more updating than you gain.
Apple was able to do updates easily and quickly within months because there was 1 piece of hardware. Obviously all WP7s are not created equal with the Samsung update situation. Microsoft is going to work out the kinks during the first couple updates. It will be smoother and there will be less time between updates as time progresses.
Anyone saying they're going to get rid of their WP7 to get an iPhone or Android is ridiculous. For copy and paste? Really? WP7 outshines those phones by far.
Something about the update stinks.
I really do hope MS makes whatever OEM screwed up pay if that is the case (Samsung).
If it's the carriers, go Apple on them when WP7 gets big, which they will by the way, update fiasco or not.
I guess the main problem is, when we think update, we think easy bug fix. Not this complicated mess we have on our hands.
The whole reason I bought into WP7 was because MS said they'd be handling regular, incremental updates. It looks like NoDo will take seven months to reach end users (assuming it doesn't brick your phone, Samsung users) and adds functionality that was expected in early january.
And apparently the Mango update won't be ready this year.
I remember counselling patience to users about four months ago who were mad there wasn't an update already available, telling them to give it time. I think it's fair to say we've given it time. Maybe WP7 in a year or so, after Mango, but at the moment it's just moving too slowly.

If MS can rearrange its WP7 business model to focus on just one supreme quality handset, and keep complete control over every aspect of it from design and functionality to updates, I could see WP7 having a chance. With Nokia on board, MS has access to quality hardware. MS has it's "Foxconn" in Nokia that would allow it to have the supreme quality. If they will just do it...

In depth Mango preview on Engadget

Engadget's just posted a really nice preview of Windows Phone Mango, you guys should all check it out.
Bad news? Seems like it's still slated for Q4 of this year. Kinda glad I sold my Trophy now - so much for Multitasking in March.
Anyway, good luck!

q4????
er...q3 I thought since MS RTMs their OSes for OEMs between july and august with consumer reach the following fall...
I'm just going by what the article said, maybe Engadget messed up or maybe the release has been pushed back.
Awesome preview wish this update would drop soon.

It was always quite clear it will be Q4. Q3 starts in few days.
I don't believe that you people honestly believe it'll be Q-anything do you?
I call mid-2012 at least.

That's not being a realist. They've already stated this will be released this fall on countless occasions. Nokia has also already stated at least one phone will be released this year as well.
Its coming this year, and I bet they are working overtime to get this out by sept. if possible at least as an update to already circulating hardware.
Mid 2012 at least? That will likely be the newly discovered Tango update. Apollo will follow and likely tie in with Windows 8.
yeah, GREAT preview by engadget...i especially like the part where they say that 3rd party live tile support is finally coming with mango...thanks for the os awareness pals

I agree. Microsoft seems to be much more aggressive with the way Mango is being hyped this early in the development cycle. I will not be at all surprised to see phones with Mango pre-loaded, on store shelves before the end of September. And, I also expect the majority of carriers to be in a status of "delivering update" by mid-October at the latest.
Of course, I also believe that Samsung Focus users on AT&T will probably not receive the update until mid-2012 (still waiting for 7392 here), so in that sense I guess both extremes of the prediction scale are correct.
After reading and watching a lot of the Mango previews around the web I was surprised when I realized that even after iOS 5 was announced, and even comparing Mango to the current state of Android, that Mango is incredibly relevant and probably will be when launched -- hopefully with new hardware. Usually software announcements this far ahead of time really become dated quickly, but most of the features added really bring a lot of parity to Windows Phone.

Why haven't you used one of the workarounds? Worked perfectly fine on my phone. Took all of five minutes.
It was a pretty good review of what's coming and I really look forward to it.
I just hope with 500+ features there is not 500 bugs to go with them....

If it were I in his position, I would respond with: because I shouldn't have to.
Microsoft promised updates, and so far have failed in delivering them in a consistent manner.
Still a huge wp7 fan, don't get me wrong. I don't ever see myself using another platform, but just being honest here.
I agree to a point, but I don't fault Microsoft for this situation. I lay all of the blame right at the feet of AT&T. Their contempt for their customers is astounding. Unfortunately I'm kind of stuck, since I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, and jumping ship to get the same deal from Verizon before they close the door on their similar plan would incur a sizable ETF.
And, after the Chevron updater near-debacle, I'm a little gun shy of any workarounds that might speed the update process along via unsupported channels. So what's a guy to do?

"9/15 isn't Mango day" Says Joe Belfiore

He also says (or links to) a site that shows the first day of fall as 23rd September. I think we all know what he is trying to say

I still haven't got NoDo on my Omnia 7. I'm sick of waiting!
I wait in silence!

No we don't.
Awww crap! that means it won't be arriving until AFTER september 23rd... I actually thought Microsoft would release something ahead of schedule but they never like to disappoint us do they.
Today Microsoft has treated its customers like dirt, had many days to say that today was not the day of the update. It's just a shame the company can not say a release date.
Walk to complain that no sales? No one will buy an OS that only has 5 languages in the operating system.
And then to make matters worse go all happy to show TV ads to show MANGO, WTF? And to show new apps with MANGO ....
It's just a shame .... They lost a customer.

It shows the attitude of the company. The customer is the last consideration. You can't expect anything good or satisfying from a company like that. If they can't see the dissatisfaction with what customers they do have, they certainly wouldn't consider anything the customer wants.
It seems like the customer is out of the loop as far as what MS is doing...like the customer isn't even a slight thought in their minds.

They never said it was 9/15 so what made you believe it? If I say its coming 9/17, will you believe this and blame MS if they don't deliver it by then?
They don't comment on speculation and they said before that it will come this fall and we still have summer.

I explained this to like 5 people on Youtube earlier, received a lot of hate mail in reply lol people are complete idiots - they will make it widely known when it is getting released.
Microsoft is waiting for the iPhone 5 announcement to release Mango so that everyone pays attention to Windows Phone. Or will they?

I don't know what the real deal is with the Mango release date, but intentionally trying to steal attention from Apple by releasing it on the same day (or even the same week) as the iPhone 5 would be an epic mistake. WP7 is nowhere near popular (or even well-known) enough yet to compete with the cacophony of noise that the iPhone 5 will generate. It would be analogous to dropping a small stone into a pond, trying to make more waves than someone else who is dropping a 50 pound boulder.
Iphone5??? More dumbass speculation, MS never once said 9/15... Xda is getting ridiculous, I just follow some tech news sites now, and some Wp7 dev forums here from now on

I'd like to add to this. They pushed quite hard every developer, in an announcement, to update their app to Mango like NOW or sooner if possible !
The hell I will ! If you push a Mango update, you can't update your NoDo version anymore, forever ! So basically I don't even know when the new features I add will become available to the general public (surely not before 1-2 months for most customers) and at the same time if I find a bug in my current version I won't be able to fix, never again.
So you're asking me once more a leap of faith, even after you provided a disaster of update schedule the last (and only) time around ? You must be kidding me...
Playing hide and seek games and having cryptic (supposedly funny ?) posts with release dates after the mess they did with their first one... doesn't feel right.
State a fixed date, well in advance and honour it
well said my freind..
A lot of good logic in this thread.
To the poster who said "if I say it's the 17th, will you get mad at MS for not releasing it on the 17th?", that isn't what happened. EVERYONE for some reason thought it was the 15th. It wasn't just a few obsessed fans. It was engadget, wpcentral, etc. -everyone-. That was the rumor. And it would take 40 seconds to write a blog post saying otherwise.
Moronic public relations from Microsoft. Rule 1: OPEN COMMUNICATION.
If a rumor gets as substantial as the 15th one did, then you address, and dismiss it. You don't write (like someone above said) a cryptic tweet just to fuel more speculation.
all of yall must be idiots
they never said the 15th but yet yall hold them to it
even if they said go today your carrier would not be ready some still don't have nodo

Mostly the reason because everyone thought it was the 15th, is the absolute need for it to come out as soon as possible as it's too late already, the window is closing extremely fast.
The platform is freaking late and having a new major iteration of ios close at hand, contemporary to something that puts WP somewhere around a 2009 OS, well you get the picture...
But ultimately, it's just that being in this sh•••y situation, you would expect they would learn to communicate better with their public. It's not like you're Apple, you're the n.1, you've already made proselytises by the bucket who have never been disappointed by your products...again, this cryptic tweets and no updates make them look arrogant.
