EDIT: Sorry all, I thought that this was the only AlphaRevX Public Beta release. Turns out that the Incredible S 1.09 HBOOT doesn't work, I didn't go far enough into the procedure. (Look at this post here) My apologies!
Hey all, I've been following the the S-OFF thread for awhile now and I decided to poke my head into the Incredible S forum. It looks like the AlphaRevX Public Beta was released over a week ago, and supports the Incredible S (with both HBOOT revisions).
I know that the Incredible S and Incredible 2 are two different phones and because of that their HBOOTs might be different (I'm not sure, this is all guesswork), but an interesting post made here mentions something about using a patched 1.09 HBOOT to get S-OFF on the Incredible 2...
So I downloaded the AlphaRevX Beta software here and decided to run it to see if I could make it past the serial key fail-safe checks and it just so happens I did. I don't know if the fail-safe isn't working as intended or what, but I figured I'd make a post to see what the developers on this forum have to say.
I'm not holding my breath but S-OFF would be nice if it happens to work right now
Also: Here are a couple of images that support my statement of running the AlphaRevX software, and passing the fail-safe mechanism on both the executable and the website with my Incredible 2.
It's also important to note that I did not enter the beta key into the AlphaRevX software as I'm not sure if the fail-safe just isn't working, and I wasn't about to brick my phone to find out.
Pretty deceiving title, considering we are in a inc2 forum.
May wanna edit to say
'public beta release for Incredible s' or something.
As far as I know this is the only AlphaRevX public beta release. Unless someone mentioned that there will be a separate release for the Inc2, I think this is it. Also this release is more than for just the Incredible S, if you go to the website they list the Desire, Desire CDMA, Wildfire and Aria. So I'm wondering if this release also includes the Incredible 2 under the Incredible S's 1.09 HBOOT.

Ah okay, my mistake. I was afraid that the next step would mean bricking my phone so I didn't enter the serial. I'll edit the thread title to reflect this.
The next beta is supposed to support a few more fonez

Why don't you do a google search? There's a lot of information out there... even the 250 page Gingerbread user manual has been released.
It's basically just an improved UI with some extra **** added in.
it will make you more awesome and sexier to the ladies eyes, consequently, you will get laid like crazy bro....
I've never received an OTA while running a custom ROM. If you're running rooted stock, I'd keep my eyes peeled for news here before installing it, just in case it will do something to root.
Otherwise, I like to be surprised so I know very little about it other than near field communications will be built into Gingerbread.
Also, Gingerbread will go back in time and kill Hitler.

You won't get an OTA if you're running a custom ROM. But Cyanogen is bound to come out with a 2.3 version way before any official OTAs. I can't imagine it'll affect rooting etc because everyone running Cyanogen will want their phones to stay rooted.
Stevie have you misunderstood Sleef?
Official OTA updates could maybe affect ease of rooting,... when 2.1 landed for the Hero those who jumped in head first and applied the OTA got stuck for about 2 months until a new method was found.

Yeah, I was, no problem. But thanks for adding the additional info, which I should have done really - which is as you say that if course you're on a *stock* ROM and are rooted/S-OFF you should not accept/apply an OTA until it's been verified it won't lock you out of root/S-OFF !
any 2.3 ota will most certainly change the way we have to root, and it might be a while until someone works out how to do it again.
Custom 2.3 roms will be out pretty quick, even if its just a rooted stock so you have no real need to accept any ota that is offered once rooted.
It'll help you get a gf because somehow she'll realize that despite you not owning an iphone, you have gingerbread!
hehe
I probably could have been a little less vague.
Also, I'm positive that someone who knows what they're doing will take the OTA and make a flashable ROM out of it so eager folks can take it for a spin without actually applying the OTA themselves. 2.3 CyanogenMod shouldn't be too far behind.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but should the source code be made available, a dev could make a working ROM even before the G2 specific OTA, right?

Sorry this is a little off topic but I was on my cousins rooted droid x. I went on rom manager and there were much more providers for roms.

AFAIK,... The 2.3 source from Google is out,... but the 2.3 kernel from HTC is still needed before anything stable can be built (instead of trying generic builds not specifically for our device so all hardware/features will not work). HTC usually release their source after releasing the update.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong....

I don't think the source code is out yet, just the SDK. Shouldn't need a 2.3 kernel from HTC to make a stable build, I'm sure Cyanogen is up to the job.

Aha,... ok.
I assumed there would be a problem going from 2.6.32 (froyo kernel) to 2.6.35 (gingerbread) as that is where there were holdups on the Hero. Fingers crossed then.
.... a teeny bit OT... Has anyone heard of Bumptop? Or is it just me that didn't know what it was? Google took over earlier this year, and it does resemble the 3d gallery + the Android 3.0 tablet video. Just installed to my laptop,... Very nice, even without a touchscreen. Maybe that is what we have to look forward to next year?
Now that I know I can get ladies with gingerbread this will help me a lot -_-
But those of you that actually put real info thanks lol...I just getting more into android development and just want to make sure nothings gonna get messed up if I do get the ota update..cyanogen I'm sure is gonna have it ready shortly, seeings how they broke froyo pretty quick. In all entirty I was just making sure if wouldn't add s back ok somehow and increase security features.

No, I know. I'm just saying that the OTA isn't an update to GB. It'll still be 2.2.
Maybe its a preperation patch for a future bootloader patch. Or just a bug fix patch yea.. either way anything is better than nothing!
This maybe still just rumor but some one in fascinate forum posted they looked earlier in Twitter postings and said it maybe GB. Honestly don't think it is either but we'll see when it come.

please let it be a GB/unlocked bootloader combo~ PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE~
but back to reality, it's likely going to be a froyo with an unlocked bootloader, that would be my guess
Either one would work for us GB would be nice hut as ling as we get an unlock that would be nice.

Why doesn't the Inc2 just jump on GB? Will this just be 2.2.2? Hopefully, the extra .1 will be more than just bugfixes.

"I understand that you are wondering when the Incredible 2 will have its boot loader unlocked. We’re pleased to announce that we have heard everyone’s comments and constructive suggestions and have decided to go forward with this initiative. We currently don’t have information regarding which existing phones will be unlocked. Keep an eye on our official website and official social media outlets for announcements about which phones will be bootloader unlocked and when."
My neighbor just got a dinc2 and she saw CM7 on my tbolt.. of course she wanted that instead of Sense. So I tried AlphaRev to do the S-OFF stuff but I get 'failed getting root ' on both windows and linux. I think she has 2.3.3 on there.
Is there no way to put CM7 on this guy?

Nope, not with my Dinc2 with Gingerbread update either... Here is to hoping HTC removes the ridiculous signed boot loader like they promised with the Sensation.

You would think a signed RUU or ZIP could be flashed via the bootloader. I updated by putting the 2.3 signed zip and flashed it via the bootloader. Weird that you couldn't return it back to a signed 2.2
Here's to hoping Revolutionary will exploit GB on the Incredible 2.

Just as HTC has patched the various root exploits as the newer devices have come out, they have also added version checking to the bootloader to prevent you from flashing an older ROM with a lower version number. It didn't use to be that way, but that's just the way HTC is rolling now.
Let's hope the unlocked bootloader policy with eventually become available for existing devices like the Dinc2 / IncS.
you would think that because the evo and sensation are similar it would be easy to find an s off solution

It's only in English, not in laziness.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
It's not that it was laziness. The phone is not mine and rooting/s-off was not a priority for what this person was going to use the phone for.
The question was already answered bangdrum. So please, take your asinine comments elsewhere.
There's a search function for a reason. So yes it is laziness. There is already at least 5 threads asking this question.

I agree with bangdrum. My DINC2 came preloaded with GB so i didn't have a choice of upgrading or not and right now I can't afford an XTC clip because I'm moving to another state. Everyday I check a variety of forums to see if she off has been achieved. It's not hard to use the search button or even footprint for that matter. It's NEW posts like this that I see EVERY day that get my hopes up. This goes out to everyone........ Do a little searching and you will find your answer.

Sevenzig, just ignore that troll.
If you have updated to GB, currently there isn't a way to obtain temp root in the Revolutionary s-off process.
As another member stated, HTC placed checks to not allow you to downgrade (example: 2.3 back to 2.2).
Hopefully here soon temp root can be obtained on the DInc2 with GB. There is temp root for the Evo 3D and Sensation and they came preloaded with 2.3.3. So hopefully Revolutionary has something up there sleeve soon.
