[ROM] PlainJane Froyo for Incredible 2 (Stock, root, busybox, sqlite) - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

This is pretty much rooted stock. As with all of "my" (HTC's) plainjane roms, there won't be improvements until the next OTA.

thanks jcase. im excited to experience the inc2 on stock froyo without the vzw bloatware. its been a great handset out of the box.

Its a stock rom, for those with s-off. Mainly to get ppl back to stock but rooted, if they desire to.

Is it the chinese - english Stock Rom froyo ?

Just get s-off and tried to flash this rom. Everything went fine but i see no su in programs (( No any root sw wont work. Maybe im doing something wrong ? Ive opened zip and su and busybox is there in xbin folder but no su after rom flashed .

Getting stuck on the htc splash screen any time I try to install this...

I also am getting stuck at the HTC boot splash. I'm kind of new to the custom roms though.
I used fastboot and flashed the boot.img to the boot partition. Then took the /system and repackaged it into a yaffs2 image. Flashed the result to the system partition. Don't know if thats exactly what to do.
-Jim

You just have to flash it in recovery. Nothing tricky or difficult like what the previous poster described. The instructions for flashing can be found in almost any ROM thread.

I have to return my phone to Verizon because the power/usb cable connection stopped working. I'm downloading this ROM to my sdcard and will flash with this.
Do you think this will be good enough to not void the warranty? I was linked to this: http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php...X-INCREDIBLE-2-(vivow)-ONLY&p=39759#post39759 but I have no way of connecting my phone to a computer to run the commands.

Just attempted to install this using recovery... upon reboot I'm stuck at HTC splash screen. -this seems to have happened to others as well.

[ROM][11/09/2010] Desire Z Sense on the G2 via HBOOT (r2)

This is an hboot flashable version of the Desire-Z ROM built for the G2. If you're rooted and know what you're doing with hboot, read on. To install, rename the download to PC10IMG.zip and place it at the root of your sdcard, then reboot into hboot. It'll flash ONLY SYSTEM and BOOT. I'll post more details shortly but everything I am testing works. Sorry for the crappy picture, I am frantically typing to make things happen.
http://twitgoo.com/1qjp6v
Quick overview (this is way below my normal release quality but I've not had much time and am rushing a bit):
Pre-rooted with Superuser from ChainsDD.
Busybox installed in /system/xbin.
Removed apps to allow the ROM to fit on the G2:
AdobeReader.apk
amazonmp3.apk
FlashLitePlugin.apk
FlashLitePlugin.odex
install_flash_player.apk
Maps.apk
Quickoffice.apk
SoundHound_Freemium_2.1.2b.apk
Stock.apk
Stock.odex
teeter.apk
teeter.odex
YouTube.apk
Most of these apps can be installed from the Market. Everything else is completely stock as it exists on the Desire-Z.
THIS IS NOT MEANT FOR JOE AVERAGE USER. PLEASE USE WITH CAUTION, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE. IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH HBOOT FLASHING THEN STEER CLEAR UNTIL WE HAVE A FUNCTIONAL RECOVERY.
LINKS PULLED AS THIS ROM IS NOW OBSOLETE. Visit the following thread instead:

Enjoy!
FIRST i hope.....
downloading and flashing now
Would i be able to root it after flashing it with the current g2 method ?
Bring virtuous to the g2 please
yay... this is all I wanted
also thank you!!!
Thanks for this i'm downloading now
Absolutely awesome. Thanks so much for this.
So if we're already rooted should we just install visionary to get root first then lock it in?
This is going to be fun...
nice job, but damn work. i just got home and was planning on doing this, so u beat me to it ...
did u modify system so it would fit on g2 partition?

That's exactly what I did. Uploading another version now which has less removed and is pre-rooted.
rmk....Ive been following what youve been saying about the rom on irc since sense 2.0 on my g2 is all i wanted.
could you possibly post a "change log" which would just list things that youve removed from the rom that people might want to know (search app, etc).
Also, is the rom working as fast as the g2 worked or is it like when we first put sense on the g1?
Third to last question, in case something goes wrong with installation or if I want to go back to the vanilla, is there a rom I can flash to go back to vanilla or am I stuck with desire z rom until someone makes one? Also do we have to clear data/cache like we normally do before flashing another rom or what?
second to last question, by installing in hboot, you mean rebooting into hboot then going into recovery to install or what do you mean?
Last question, are the keys mapped correctly or are they desire keys?
Please answer these questions, I want to make sure I know what I am getting into before I plunge. Thanks for all the work!!
P.S - sorry for all the questions.

I dont like senes but like learning. I thought the z and vision had the same chip? So shoukdnt it had fit in the nand? Also eont the pc10img flash a lock down hboot? Or you swapped it out and having s-off means it doesnt look for a sign?

well sounds like you already have the latest Clockwork installed? if so, I believe UnRevoked comes with a downgraded version so I would try and downgrade the version on your phone see if it helps
Well I'm able to go into recovery it's just when I try and use rom manager or titanium backup it comes up saying the phone doesn't have root privileges so I thought it wasnt rooted properly. If I'm rooted because I can go into recovery and it shows s= off in h boot then how do I fix the privileges part of it all?

This happened to me after I used unrevoked. It ran successfully, I tested w/ rom manager and it worked. I then rebooted a few minutes later and tried using several other root apps and none could obtain root privelages. So, I flashed a custom ROM (cyanogen 6.1) then had full root access again. Maybe that will help?

I unlocked the bootloader using the official HTCDev tool. Now what?

What are the next steps in rooting? Follow the usual using Revolutionary? Install CWM manually?

Agreed! With the bootlaoder now unlocked, what are the steps to rooting this beast? Do we still need to downgrade? Please pardon my noobness.
You wouldn't need to downgrade, I do know that. But as far as the rest, Idk. I did mine with revolutionary a while back before the 2.3.4 update, so I've been kicking ever since.

You do not have to downgrade if you unlocked. You should be able to install a new recovery image like Clockwork.

When you flash a custom ROM from CWM on an unlocked HBOOT, you then need to manually extract the boot.img from the custom ROM zip file and manually flash it in Fastboot mode using the command
Fastboot flash boot [path to the boot.img file]
This has been documented multiple times in this forum.

Yes in your case you will need to relock the bootloader in order to flash the RUU/PG32IMG.zip file. You cannot flash a RUU on an unlocked bootloader.
I'm guessing you guys have something other than .98 hboot? I'll find out soon when my wifes replacement comes in but I was not intending to use the HTC unlocker if I didn't have to. I was planning to try the tool attn1 has posted in the dev section unless the hboot changed with the ota.

Good to hear kinda thought it was. I'll be using the method attn1 has posted then. I don't trust the unlock method through HTC for one main reason which is this... Unlocking bootloader and rooting voids warranty as we all know. So what happens when HTC knows your bootloader was unlocked because you used their tool and they have the serial number?

if you had been reading up on rooting and really doing your research then you should have learned that you never accept an update right when it comes out because you lose the ability to root until a fix is found (and it often takes some time).

Here's what I came up with. Still may do a video. Hope it makes sense, it was very early/late when I wrote this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458491
Slightly off this topic, but along the same lines, so I didn't want to start another thread.
I rooted back in November, prior to the latest OTA update - and had a pretty good understanding of what I was doing - I think.. heh
I NEVER flashed a new ROM, Kernel, Radio, etc. Only backedup, rooted, removed some bloatware, and that's it.
I still have superuser su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip (I think?) in my root folder of my SD Card. Nothing else.
I backed up my Nandroid to my computer, as well as all the TitaniumPro backups of bloatware.
I saw Brad560's two posts - both Barebones and Stock ROM's.
In the Stock post, he listed Deodex'ed, Odexed, and Original UnRooted ROM. This confused me, as I'm still trying to wrap my head around the flashing part. Then I saw a reply about Radios?
I think at this point, I definitely want to remain rooted, but would like the "official" release from HTC/Sprint (in root form, stable, as close to the original as possible, for now).
Which ROM should I grab?
Will I need to flash a new kernel? I don't have any desire to overclock or anything.
And will I need to update the Radios separately?
Thanks, sincerely appreciate any help.
Just read in brads thread and all your answers will be there.

Thanks for replying.
I have read it. That's the first time I had heard of those things, which is why I asked here.
I think some folks forget what's it like to learn this stuff.. and while many here have been around for awhile and have absorbed over time, there are people like me (a military pilot btw lol) who has a tough time grasping some of the verbiage. I had the rooting thing down. Flashing a ROM seemed easy enough, though hadn't done it. Then someone throws up 3 versions in that post and 2 in the other. I get his barebones stuff - for the most part - he stripped stuff out.
Anyway, I suppose I will take the plunge and pick one of the ROMs, then suppose flash the latest radios.
Thanks!

I didn't think about that. That could be the issue then. No nandroid backup of your stock ROM right?
I'm thinking the best you can do is find a similar to stock ROM and install that. Most times the service techs don't look to hard at a device to see that it is running a custom ROM.

Great! Use that and then download one of the apps that helps to remove root. One such app is OTA Rootkeeper. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...m9yZy5wcm9qZWN0dm9vZG9vLm90YXJvb3RrZWVwZXIiXQ..
Hopefully that will help.
