[Q] EVO Shift on Metro in NY(Brooklyn) ??? [+flashing question] - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, it's my first post here, and it's only because I think I did ALOT of research, but didn't find the info I needed.
THE STORY:
I just bought a used Evo Shift, and been researching on how to flash it to MetroPCS, to have Talk and Text (every store I went to don't flash phones, even if Metro has them listed to do so- either they are lazy or it is for a reason)
You guys already have an awesome guide on how to configure the phone to have web and mms, so I won't be asking about that.
THE PROBLEM:
while researching, I came across some info, that the evo (and evo shift) don't support the MetroPCS band in NY. However, some people claimed that you could use the phone (roaming via verizon) here if you set it up in an area, that has Metro bands, which the EVO does support.
THE QUESTIONS:
1. Will my EVO Shift work in NY? (Brooklyn, NY-11208)
2. Will I manage to get the EVO Shift Metro service, while not going out of NY to do it and where do I get the PRL and NV files needed for a flash? (If it's illegal to post about these, hit me up with a PM)
Outro:
For now i'm loving the phone- It's an awesome upgrade from a Nokia N97 mini. Super Smooth. I'm not new to getting in the roots of phones (both hardware and software) but CDMA is just something i'm a total NOOB at (still working on in- putting lots of hours into researching on forums).
Thanks in advance

Since you have an EVO Shift, you might have better luck in the EVO Shift forums.

[Q] Hardware/Software Question; (re: MetroPCs flashing)

My goal is to finish flashing((i added the ESN and have talk and text) my Droid Incredible to MetroPCS, however there seems to be a dearth of information for this device. I have found guides for the Droid, Droid X, Eris, Hero, Fascinate, and even the Evo. Yet, nothing for the Droid Incredible.
Instead of asking for a tutorial from you guys, (although that would be appreciated) I have a different question. Is the hardware/software on the Incredible more comparable to the Eris or the Evo? I am planning on using either one of the guides but I am pretty sure there are differences with each device.
Evo. The inc and Evo are very similar in many ways. To the point that we can actually run Evo Rom without too many changes.

I too wish there was some kinda guide for the dinc for metro pcs.. like what to do and what not to do as far as flashing new roms and such. lol
My god, this is frustrating...
I have tried both the Eris flashing instructions and the Evo flashing instructions, and nothing. In both cases, I can't even get the 1x icon up, nor can I get the APN settings to stick. I even copied the CMDA WS and QPST setting from a Metro HTC Hero, and yet nothing. Seeing as setting up the proxy didn't work, I guess I am having issues with writing PPConfig since I can make and recieve calls/SMS
Anyone out there with a flashed DInc, willing to share settings/help?
Could the fact that I am running 2.2 Android instead of 2.1 be an issue?

Rooting their friends phone

Anyone root their friends phone? I did 2 in the last week. AT&T Inspire and my wifes Nexus S 4G. I put Sense 3.5 on the Inspire and Miui on the Nexus. I've forgotten how cool Miui is. I'm afraid if I put Miui on my friends phone we'll panic because he's so used to sense. Anyway I just thught I would open it up to hear any storeis, or horror stories of other peoples expierences.
how does your wife like the nexus s 4g? I'm thinking of getting one for my son.
3 motorola cliqs (all mine, those things were garbage and I kept having to send them back lol)
1 mytouch 3g slide (mine) running cm6
1 HTC G2 (mine) running stock rooted
5 HTC Evo 4g (one mine, two the gf's, the clerk at speedway at 3am and an out of town friend)
1 HTC Thunderbolt (cousin)
1 Epic 4g Touch (mine)
I'm also about to root 2 more HTC Evos that a couple of friends bought (first time smartphone owners) and I'm on call for a Moto Photon when my gf upgrades in a few months.
My favorite story though is the Speedway clerk. I'm a regular there and the nightshift knows me pretty well. Well the guy said he couldn't afford wifi at home anymore so he couldn't play any online games. I took my computer down there not knowing that none of the wifi tether apps worked for our Epic 4g Touch yet. I got down there and realized that I couldn't get internet on my computer whatsoever. So, I downloaded Revolutionary (the program that roots HTC Evos now) on the phone, put it on my computer, then input the codes and stuff in the web browser on my phone while the computer did all the work. Then it failed pushing recovery (not interwebz on the laptop), so I had to download amon ra on the epic touch, put it on my computer, then on his phone and flash via bootloader.
From there I hooked him up with a gingerbread w/sense 1.0 (stock for that phone) rom with busybox and root already installed. Showed him how to make wireless tether work.
He and my brother play CoD on the ps3 together almost daily now.
Quick troubleshooting with over $1500 worth of technology in a gas station that's been robbed before at 3am FTW!!!
She loves it she won't even pick up

Epic 4G on Page Plus

So I found a couple posts here regarding flashing the Samsung Epic 4G to use on Page Plus, along with the comprehensive Google Document on how to do it.
My questions are:
If I follow this process and get an Epic 4G on Page Plus, can I flash custom ROMs to the phone whenever I want or will flashing the ROMs overwrite what I did to get the phone on Page Plus and will I have to do it every time I flash a custom ROM?
Also, I could really figure out from the posts or the document if everything works normally on the Epic once on Page Plus or if it is quirky and has random things that don't work.
I guess what I'm asking is, is this a good idea? I don't need to do this but I'm on Page Plus with my Droid X2, which I am beginning to hate because I cant get a decent up to date ROM on it (JB), and a friend is offering to sell his Epic 4G for a good price and I want to stay on Page Plus, which I really like.
Thanks!

I've been using Pageplus on my Epic4G for almost a year now and I can tell you that flashing any kinda of Rom (stock or custom) will not effect your pageplus service, except maybe for data which you need to edit the APN settings (using "apn backup" app from the market) every time you install a new rom to your phone.
Data speed are spotty and so slow with Sprint phones on Pageplus that if the data worked for you in the first place. ( I have 100mb on my PP monthly plan, but I didn't use any of it since I've migrated to cm10, used to be working with stock roms).
also, I don't know yet if voice-mail notification is fully working now or not, but mostly keep checking from time to time just in case someone left you a voice-mail.
Other than the data and voice-mail issues, everything else is working fine like any other phone.
Thanks for the reply Sohip. I am unclear on the data issues though. You said:

Are you saying data is really spotty and slow on Page Plus with the Epic in general or doesn't work at all? I have a 2gb data plan and I've never had speed or spotty issues with PP on my Droid X2 at all. Is this something specific to the Epic on PP?
If that's the case I suppose I'm just better off sticking with the Droid X2?
Thanks!
I think they are specific only to Sprint phones on Pageplus, my data speed on speedtest.net are like 0.2 mb only.. do you know what's your data speed on your verizon phone with pageplus?
