Currently I have two phones.
An unactivated virgin phone.
And of course the Epic 4G. I looked on google, and saw some tutorials. I fear they maybe outdated. I am not sure.
If anybody can point me towards an worthy guide. That will be awesome
Thank you
Edit* Please disregard title, I did not noticed I held the shift key while pressing the number 4

Hi, it's my first post here, and it's only because I think I did ALOT of research, but didn't find the info I needed.
THE STORY:
I just bought a used Evo Shift, and been researching on how to flash it to MetroPCS, to have Talk and Text (every store I went to don't flash phones, even if Metro has them listed to do so- either they are lazy or it is for a reason)
You guys already have an awesome guide on how to configure the phone to have web and mms, so I won't be asking about that.
THE PROBLEM:
while researching, I came across some info, that the evo (and evo shift) don't support the MetroPCS band in NY. However, some people claimed that you could use the phone (roaming via verizon) here if you set it up in an area, that has Metro bands, which the EVO does support.
THE QUESTIONS:
1. Will my EVO Shift work in NY? (Brooklyn, NY-11208)
2. Will I manage to get the EVO Shift Metro service, while not going out of NY to do it and where do I get the PRL and NV files needed for a flash? (If it's illegal to post about these, hit me up with a PM)
Outro:
For now i'm loving the phone- It's an awesome upgrade from a Nokia N97 mini. Super Smooth. I'm not new to getting in the roots of phones (both hardware and software) but CDMA is just something i'm a total NOOB at (still working on in- putting lots of hours into researching on forums).
Thanks in advance
Since you have an EVO Shift, you might have better luck in the EVO Shift forums.

But anyways- these phone are too similar, so maby someone will turn up with some usefull info.
MODS: if you can, please transfer this thread to EVO SHIFT forum, I don't want to double post.
ok so when i first got my spring galaxy s2 (epic 4g touch) i rooted it but i think i used the method for the galaxy s2 and not the method for Epic 4g touch. After i did that the phone didnt have any service. long story short i couldnt fix it so i got another phone (epic 4g touch) and i would like to root it but scared it might happen again. Did that problem happen cause i used the wrong method? Is there a diff when it comes to rooting a galaxy s2 and sprints version called epic 4g touch? Thanks
This is the right section! You need to slow down and do some research for a couple / few days... Go through the development section and read through the different posts. You'll get it. No one is going to hold your hand through the process.... The info is here for your taking. Welcome to our forums
Got boost?
What good are Q&A sections if when you ask a question someone ALWAYS replies with (use the search button, or do research), .....Trust me after what happened i did do a couple/ few days of reasearch and i wasnt asking for anyone to hold my hand OR how to do it. Read the post again and thanks for the welcome. cheers
Well the rooting method is the same...except you need to use files designed for the Epic Touch. Since both phones are so similar, and really only differ in the radio, that's why you didn't get any service, because you used the GSM Galaxy S2 files. Only flash what's in the developer forum for this specific phone and you're good to go.

He's just trying to help you out. Maybe you should understand that. Anyone that flashes something that goes to another phone doesn't need to be flashing anything for a while till they research and read. Yes the original gs2 is GSM that'd probably why u lost signal. U need to only flash things in this development forum. I would flash the stock pulled kernel with cwm by chris41g and then flash su in cwm for root and add busybox. That's your best bet. Good luck.

Thanks guys for the real help I do appreciate it.
I found a conventional root. Google "doomlord root" or http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-anything-try-doomlords-easy-rooting-toolkit/
It works perfectly for the epic touch. No flashing required. I used it because i wanted full control but loved stock.

A new automated root method was just posted today for our phones specifically and I can confirm it works flawlessly, just did it on mine 30 minutes ago. It roots your current ROM and doesn't flash anything at all so if you had no problems with your phone before root, you won't have any after. DO IT.

What is needed to make Sprint or VZW S3 ROMs to work on the USCC variant in terms of the radio? Hoping someone could answer this. I'm not familiar with the way Samsungs devices are. I'm attempting to help the USCC folks from being left behind with ROMs. All Sprint ROMs are working flawlessly on the USCC variant. Just not the radio. So again, what needs to be done to make it work?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would also like to figure this out. I'm on USCC myself.
+1 on this.
I too am a USCC customer. Came over from Sprint. Really happy with the phone and the service. Last weekend I pulled 10mb down in Paoli Wisconsin!
Anyway, want to get a few things modded. Like 180 degree rotation and would really like to get away from that black on white email app!.
Bump.
This is starting to feel like the Photon/Electrify situation all over again. USCC releases a doppelganger phone of one from Sprint and like the red-headed step child USCC is left behind. In that case Jokersax stepped up and started releasing ROMs for the Electrify even though he wasn't a US Cellular customer. Oh, did I mention U.S. Cellular (gotta make sure we got all of the possible spellings so as to hit the search engines).
Not complaining though. Really, if I wanted a tweaks or a custom ROM I would step up and learn how to do it myself.

The electrify never got left behind like this. All photon ROMs have always worked with no tweaks.
Sadly Samsung is different and won't work as easily with different radios ):

Yeah, I guess the USCC variant is a bit different than either the Verizon or Sprint versions. I was monkeying around and somehow mucked up my phone so the display wouldn't turn on. I downloaded the Snapdragon Toolbox and was able to reflash stock (I was on rooted stock) to get it back working again. Funny thing though, Now I'm required to hold down the physical "Home" button along with the power button and the corresponding volume button to go into CWM or into download mode.
Jig works fine. Quickboot works fine. Toolbox works fine. Just somehow changed it to require the home button...
relatively recently I acquired the Samsung Galaxy S3 from metro pcs. Ive been registered with you the fine people of XDA for all of about an hour now and hopefully this first question I post will be by far the most remedial of any I post.
I have the SCH-R530M and am unable to find a "correct" forum for my device. With the upcoming merger between t-mobile and Metro it made the most sense to post here and ask if there is a forum for me that i have overlooked and just missed or if this is indeed where i should post for the closest approximation of information for my device.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Yes you should come to the T-Mobile forums, but I would limit my posts if you mess up on anything, ie flashing ROMs/etc., and if you have any knowledge when it comes to ROMs about the whole S3 family it's that the files for each carrier are shown as dat&t, dtmo, dvzw, so if you flash any ROM you should dig into the files and change those values to Metro.
People do that all the time like flashing an AT&T ROM on their TMO version, just change the values.
I dont know about the Metro s3 as its a CDMA but check out PureMotive guide on the verizon forums. It may help you. Also Check Android Forum they have a lot of metro pcs phones listed in there. Its like xda

Um....you should limit your posts since you don't know what the hell you are talking about, you are encouraging this dude to brick his phone.
As the previous poster said it is a CDMA phone (no simcard) so you have the potential to brick your phone by flashing something that's not made for it. What I would do, is google it. "Metro PCS Galaxy SIII XDA" see if you find a section for your phone.
thanks for the input guys, right now my plan is to unlock and possibly root the s3. With it being cdma I'm then going to have it flashed over to a far cheaper service running off the Verizon network, this way I will have a fully functional s3 fully unlimited and service in virtually everyplace I choose to roam. right now the "sister carrier" doesn't have the ability to flash the S3 to their service. so im just waiting it out for now, figured maybe i'll tweak my 3 and possibly root it before I switch
metro pcs GS3/ sprint GS3 and shutter sound
just in case anyone else who got their GS3 through metro i thought i would through up a small helpful hint i figured out a while ago. I know alot of people myself included hate the shutter sound on their camera and with most phones you can willingly shut that sound off for capturing images. on certain carrier models of the GS3 the carrier locked this option so you aren't able to shut the sound off ( sprint has done just this) and it can become quite annoying.
you could get another camera app and just use that and it being the awesome app that it is ( whatever it is) has the option to shut off the shutter sound. this is one option, but one that I surpassed in favor of an app that can handle my little shutter sound issue and do more quite conveniently.
the app is called AUTOMATEIT. with this free app you can set triggers and rules for when those triggers are optioned. i use this app for a great many things, but i found it quite hand for silencing the camera. the rule i set was that when the camera app was activated the entire phone went to vibrate mode. when my camera app is launched the phone vibrates and this signals that indeed my camera is up and ready which is quite handy for the quick pictures that catch you off guard. when the camera app has ceased usage, i set it to go back into normal volume mode and my phone and I live happily ever after.
hopefully this post helps someone else as much as this knowledge has helped me.
I have seen some of the guides, however here is my situation. I have a Sprint Evo 4g, and a prevail already on the boost network. I have never flashed a phone before, but I've done rooting and what not.
My prevail is already rooted, but the Evo 4g is clean and unrooted.
I found some guides but I get confused on what to do after a certain point. I'm looking for someone who has done this before to help explain to me. Following directions is ok, but I like to understand how the process works.
Also what is the best method of flashing now, I've seen 2 or 3 different method but I definitely prefer the easiest way quickest way. I also have skype if you want add me and message me, [email protected]
