I'm on ACS SFR 1.2 as of right now. I have the Genocided 1.1 Kernel right now...what other Kernels work pretty well on EXT4...

I've actually opted to stick with Genocide 1.0. Nothing really changed with 1.1 that I want, and the battery life with 1.0 is astounding. Vision Kernel is also a good one.

Have you tried the Twilight kernel that comes with SFR 1.1.1?? I ran into problems with genocide for some reason, but the Twilight kernel has been flawless for me FWIW. I am currently on the SFR 1.2 using that same kernel.

I haven't tried the Twilight Kernel although I keep seeing post about it on different forum threads...is there a link for the dev's post?

I'm actually back on 1.0 as well. I was having audio issues with 1.1 Like you said there really isn't a whole lot new. I'm happy with the way it is. However I'm really looking forward to Vision 1.3 I can't run the other ones with this phone because the 1400mhz is pre-undervolted and Genocide is the only one that lets me custom UV 1400 at this time. It can handle UV's all frequencies 1ghz and below but nothing above.

I'm running SRF 1.2 and I am having great success with the ACS Twilight Zone kernel. Took my phone off the charger this morning at 10:30, made a call, went to work, made more calls and sent texts, played a game for a while, came home, and now it's 7:30pm and the phone still has 74% battery life with. I did calibrate my battery (Look it up, there's a guide here) last night so that may be a part of it.

I find Genocide 2.0 to be the best possible kernel to use, especially on SFR. It's very snappy and the only kernel I know of that allows dual booting

KiNgxKernel or Netarchy kernel?

Which one do you like better? I'm not necessarily looking for best over clock speed, but actually better battery life. Any ideas?
I prefer kings kernels.. I haven't had good results on nets kernels lately.. cpu stayed at 100% a lot for me..
Kings scales just fine for me and provides great battery life.. I use his bfs #4 kernel.
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G using XDA app.
I've used nearly every one of netarchy's kernels, but am now using King's. My battery life is awesome on BFS #4, and everything is very smooth.
I actually prefer hero's baked snack kernel 1. It also has HAVS like king's kernel. Standby time battery life is about the same between king's and hero's, but for me hero's battery life is better when actively using the phone.

Stupid question, but what is the difference between BFS and CFS kernels?
I guess a better question is BFS #4 or CFS #7?

Google is your friend. But basically, BFS is supposed to be faster, while a little less stable, while CFS is supposed to be a little more stable (its older), but the trade off is the speed. I personally dont see much of a speed difference, but I still usually use BFS.
netarchy. Never had any problems with his kernels. Haven't tried King's yet, but the way I look at is, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

running net's kernel atm, but most likely going to switch. 4g doesn't seem to work for me, and it keeps saying there is a voicemail update, but won't actually let me install it.
I'm sure KingxKlick is a great guy and knows what he's doing, but I avoid his kernel because he doesn't actually own an Evo. I stick with netarchy because he's someone I trust.

Unistall voicemail from Titanium backup. Then go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7749762&postcount=44 That is the updated Apk for the voicemail. Hope that helps man. And for me I use Kingz and love it. Been getting some very good battery life out of it. And its smooth even when running @ 1.17 oc.

Do you have the latest radios?
The voicemail update (or lack of update, rather) is a ROM issue. It affects Fresh and others. More info and fix here.

hmm, thats weird. I didn't have the problem before i flashed it with the kernel. any info on the 4g issue? if thats rom as well, then netarchy kernel is fine.
edit: just did a quick flash of king's kernel. seems like the 4g issue is rom issue as well.
Kings has been amazing so far, i'm very satisfied!
I have used both and get better battery out of kings by a large margin. I am using the BFS #4 and couldn't be happier. I had the 100% CPU issue on nets last update.
Here is a simple thing for me: When I am running Kings, my phone seems cooler to the touch, no matter what I'm doing. On nets, it get warm, then cools, then warm. Heat is wasted energy.
I think lots of the meat and cheese in Kings kernel came from net anyhow, but I no longer has a need to flash a new kernel. Sticking with kings.

Like said above, if it isn't broke, I don't fix it. I'm using Netarchy's 4.18 and I'm not having the 100% cpu issue at all
Ok, figured I'd contradict myself and flash king's #4 bfs and test benchmarks against net's 4.1.8 bfs. Here are my results:
Fresh 3.1.0.2 / novatec 0003 / setcpu @ 1152 performance
fps2d:
net's - 54/2.69 attempt 2 of 3
king's - 54/1.84 attempt 3 of 3
linpack:
net's - 37.029 attempt 4 of 5
king's - 37.661 attempt 4 of 5
Nena Mark: Only ran once
net's - 15.7
king's - 15.5
Neocore: Only ran once
net's - 31.4
king's - 31.7
Quadrant:
net's - 1496 attempt 1 of 2
king's - 1513 attempt 2 of 2
Looks like king won this round. Gonna keep running it to see what battery life is like.
Netarchy 4.1.8. Maybe I'll try King's....but Netarchy is always on the ball. My battery is at 26.0 C on Net's and I've been surfing the web.
Will be using net's. It's like Kobe v LeBron

[Q] Best Rom in your opinion for EXT4?

I just got an epic this week from sprint, loving it so far NOW that I flashed it myself to Cricket. can someone recommend a rom that can be used as a daily driver for me? I know alot of people post this kind of question but this is what I'm looking for:
Speed
A little awsomesauce
Nice layout
No sprint bloatware
Overclocked Kernel preferably EB13 (Don't know if this has been done yet)
Bluetooth for music functioning along with voice (using a motorola roadster for my car)
Few if no force closes
sorry for asking this as I know alot of devs see this on a normal basis but I'm VERY new to samsung android, Evo's and Mytouch 4g's were my last phones so I've always been an HTC kind of guy. any help would be appreciated.
The new syndicate just dropped. Its amazing.

yeah, what he said ^
same here 100%
midNght v4.1 ... has all of what you're looking for.
It has all the standard apps as separate flashable zips. So you start off with a very bare ROM and build it up yourself.
It uses an overclocked kernel 1.2 when using setCPU
It is solid and speedy
its EB13 as well.
(no matter what rom you choose; you should start off by using odin and the eb13 tar that already has recovery and root in it; thread is in the dev area)
Good luck
Viper ROM
The Viper Trinity Rom is amazing
Viper rom frozen has been my favorite so far. Trinity is very hot, small glitch with corp email that keeps me from giving it a 10.

think I'm gonna give midnight a run first and then onto viper if it's not for me, thank you guys for your suggestions
Yeah, the new Syndicate Frozen ROM is great.
It installs overclocked to 1.2ghz, and even when I underclocked with SetCPU, I didn't notice any drop in snappiness at all.
MidnightROM is supposed to be pretty good as well, though I had some Force Close issues (that were probably my fault), so I switched to Syndicate for the time being.
Bonsai 3.0.1, you have to wait a little longer but i hear good things, in the mean time bonsai 3.0.0 is sweet. Fast,no bloat and backs up and restores your data for you. really good.
The new syndicate rom is just as amazing as their di18 release was. Plus! There is no carrier IQ running, which means speed improvements as well as the privacy issues are gone.
oh and one more feature I need now that my fiancee got his atrix last night, I need a working front facing camera, do all the roms mentioned have the FFC working?
And yes I'm very jealous of him having that damned new dual core phone lol.... that's why I text bombed him with a 1000 texts as soon as he got home with it where he lives MUAH HA HA HA HAAAAA!
Another one for Bonsai ROM. The easiest install I've ever done on any ROM and it's snappy and stable.
Just do what I do and try them all. then install the newest update for every one. Then just stick with your favorite. You also learn a lot in the process.

I give my vote for Midnight ROM v4.1
I had this problem as well until a friendly person here explained to me that you have to go back into Clockwork and flash everything extra you want. It comes with only the bare essentials.
Midnight ROM has more work involved but it is great.
it does have a working FFC as well. Someone actually just asked about it in the Midnight ROM thread and the developer was very helpful in answering the question.

Haha! I was thinking about how we are like pigeons- we go to whoever has the bread at the moment.
The best part about the community roms is if one rom finds a new fix it will trickle into the others. We are still in the early stages of eb13. I expect to see some amazing things from our devs in the next month.

This for epic win. thank you very much guys for your help in all this, and I was always a "man not another best rom thread" but now I asked it so have to be quiet. And I prefer to think of myself as a squirrel looking for his next nut when it comes to roms lol
I'm running Bonsai, and they just updated to eb13. I prefer it over viper and the others, it seems faster and has more battery. Also it backs up your data, and removes all bloatware.

HERE you can compare kernels. But i personally like a kernel that more aggressive. Netarchys Kernels & Ziggy's Kernels
You will have to experiment on your own and see what works best for you. Every phone reacts differently to kernels.
Personally, I have the best luck with Netarchy kernels. Ziggy kernels are completely unstable for me to the point where my system freezes up and I have to pull the battery.

Got onto the Elite 3 ROM the other day and LOVE it! However, its absolutely chewing through my battery life (extended batteries). Went from getting at very least 12 hours on MikFroyo 4.5 & stock kernel to now sitting at 63% after 3 hours! Was using Juice Defender for a bit until this kernel. lots of people said not to with havs.
Using Nets 4.3.4 cfs nosbc haves more with Konis Elite Series 3.
Have also got Setcpu running at smartass (also tried on demand) st 245/740ish and have one screen off profile set to 245/245 powersave.
Need to find a fix because I want to stay on this ROM.

Trying to find my girl a ROM... What are you suggestions?

Hello,
I'm an EVO user, but my girl has an Epic.
On EVO I used Synergy Kingdom, which is looks pretty great and, with V6 Supercharged, it's very fast.
I noticed in the wiki there are several ROMs for the Epic.
Not sure where to go, so I'm looking for opinions.
What do you suggest that looks great and is fast?
Thanks!
Matt
SRF 1.2 is a good Froyo ROM and the Genocide kernel v2.0 compliments it very well..... Genocide kernel is overclockable to 1.4GHz and is ext4 compatible.....
With gingerbread they're all good but they're also leaks so it may not be the route to go if its your gf's phone, I've made that mistake before lol

RandomRom 2.2.1 Plus or SRF 1.2. Both very slick, fast and very few issues. Check out the ACS updater. Everything listed in there is good stuff. My suggestion would be to stick with EC05 based Rom's for now, until official GB drops. Good Luck!
If she likes pink, theme it afterwards with shane's pink theme.
Simply ASOP
Here is my plug for Simply ASOP, my personal favorite.
I used SFR for a while and it is very fast. However, I wanted something with a bit more battery life and did not really care about overclocking my phone much (more speed = less battery life). While having the fastest phone is nice to brag about, how often does that extra 200MHz come in handy? For me, not much.
Simply ASOP is exactly that for me: simple. It boots very quickly, looks slick (Google has their sh*t together on making it look nice before the phone manufacturers get their hands on it), and the phone stays alive for a very long time.
Simply ASOP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922773
I would like to add another +1 for SRF don't forget to turn journaling on if you convert to ext4. The only ROM I haven't tried out of the ones listed is the ASOP one. Currently I am running Bonsai GB leak sorry not allowed to link to it.
SRF 1.2 is fast and stable and Urban Regeneration is every bit as fast and stable and has a nice blue theme baked in. Both of those stand up well over time

To my knowledge, and others can correct me if I'm wrong, but Evo 4g on any current Kernel out there can be only overclocked to 1.2. Some people even are having problems at that speed, so I doubt going any higher would be beneficial. Not saying you shouldn't try, I'm just saying that it probably wouldn't be stable.
