Hello,
I'm an EVO user, but my girl has an Epic.
On EVO I used Synergy Kingdom, which is looks pretty great and, with V6 Supercharged, it's very fast.
I noticed in the wiki there are several ROMs for the Epic.
Not sure where to go, so I'm looking for opinions.
What do you suggest that looks great and is fast?
Thanks!
Matt
SRF 1.2 is a good Froyo ROM and the Genocide kernel v2.0 compliments it very well..... Genocide kernel is overclockable to 1.4GHz and is ext4 compatible.....
With gingerbread they're all good but they're also leaks so it may not be the route to go if its your gf's phone, I've made that mistake before lol

This would be my recommendation as well, as Ginger ROMs are still based on leaks that have issues
I was on the SRF 1.2 forever, and loved it, until I finally broke down and decided to start rocking a GB leak

RandomRom 2.2.1 Plus or SRF 1.2. Both very slick, fast and very few issues. Check out the ACS updater. Everything listed in there is good stuff. My suggestion would be to stick with EC05 based Rom's for now, until official GB drops. Good Luck!
If she likes pink, theme it afterwards with shane's pink theme.
Simply ASOP
Here is my plug for Simply ASOP, my personal favorite.
I used SFR for a while and it is very fast. However, I wanted something with a bit more battery life and did not really care about overclocking my phone much (more speed = less battery life). While having the fastest phone is nice to brag about, how often does that extra 200MHz come in handy? For me, not much.
Simply ASOP is exactly that for me: simple. It boots very quickly, looks slick (Google has their sh*t together on making it look nice before the phone manufacturers get their hands on it), and the phone stays alive for a very long time.
Simply ASOP:

I would like to add another +1 for SRF don't forget to turn journaling on if you convert to ext4. The only ROM I haven't tried out of the ones listed is the ASOP one. Currently I am running Bonsai GB leak sorry not allowed to link to it.
SRF 1.2 is fast and stable and Urban Regeneration is every bit as fast and stable and has a nice blue theme baked in. Both of those stand up well over time

I just got an epic this week from sprint, loving it so far NOW that I flashed it myself to Cricket. can someone recommend a rom that can be used as a daily driver for me? I know alot of people post this kind of question but this is what I'm looking for:
Speed
A little awsomesauce
Nice layout
No sprint bloatware
Overclocked Kernel preferably EB13 (Don't know if this has been done yet)
Bluetooth for music functioning along with voice (using a motorola roadster for my car)
Few if no force closes
sorry for asking this as I know alot of devs see this on a normal basis but I'm VERY new to samsung android, Evo's and Mytouch 4g's were my last phones so I've always been an HTC kind of guy. any help would be appreciated.
The new syndicate just dropped. Its amazing.

yeah, what he said ^
same here 100%
midNght v4.1 ... has all of what you're looking for.
It has all the standard apps as separate flashable zips. So you start off with a very bare ROM and build it up yourself.
It uses an overclocked kernel 1.2 when using setCPU
It is solid and speedy
its EB13 as well.
(no matter what rom you choose; you should start off by using odin and the eb13 tar that already has recovery and root in it; thread is in the dev area)
Good luck
Viper ROM
The Viper Trinity Rom is amazing
Viper rom frozen has been my favorite so far. Trinity is very hot, small glitch with corp email that keeps me from giving it a 10.

think I'm gonna give midnight a run first and then onto viper if it's not for me, thank you guys for your suggestions
Yeah, the new Syndicate Frozen ROM is great.
It installs overclocked to 1.2ghz, and even when I underclocked with SetCPU, I didn't notice any drop in snappiness at all.
MidnightROM is supposed to be pretty good as well, though I had some Force Close issues (that were probably my fault), so I switched to Syndicate for the time being.
Bonsai 3.0.1, you have to wait a little longer but i hear good things, in the mean time bonsai 3.0.0 is sweet. Fast,no bloat and backs up and restores your data for you. really good.
The new syndicate rom is just as amazing as their di18 release was. Plus! There is no carrier IQ running, which means speed improvements as well as the privacy issues are gone.
oh and one more feature I need now that my fiancee got his atrix last night, I need a working front facing camera, do all the roms mentioned have the FFC working?
And yes I'm very jealous of him having that damned new dual core phone lol.... that's why I text bombed him with a 1000 texts as soon as he got home with it where he lives MUAH HA HA HA HAAAAA!
Another one for Bonsai ROM. The easiest install I've ever done on any ROM and it's snappy and stable.
Just do what I do and try them all. then install the newest update for every one. Then just stick with your favorite. You also learn a lot in the process.

I give my vote for Midnight ROM v4.1
I had this problem as well until a friendly person here explained to me that you have to go back into Clockwork and flash everything extra you want. It comes with only the bare essentials.
Midnight ROM has more work involved but it is great.
it does have a working FFC as well. Someone actually just asked about it in the Midnight ROM thread and the developer was very helpful in answering the question.

Haha! I was thinking about how we are like pigeons- we go to whoever has the bread at the moment.
The best part about the community roms is if one rom finds a new fix it will trickle into the others. We are still in the early stages of eb13. I expect to see some amazing things from our devs in the next month.

I'm running Bonsai, and they just updated to eb13. I prefer it over viper and the others, it seems faster and has more battery. Also it backs up your data, and removes all bloatware.

try re engineered z rom, its smokin fast with no oc
Ok I will. Does re–engineered z roms have custom mods u can add on to it. I am big in moding the title bar and the over all look of everything. Lol.
Dinc
Oh which version to get for the re engineered roms.
Dinc
Reengineered, ziggys latest w/ cfs and havs, adw launcher, desensed. Enough said!
I didn't like Incredibly Re-engineered Z. It was bloated with crap I didn't want and was stupid-quirky about swapping kernels. Straight Incredibly Re-engineered version 2.3.1 is my preference. It's not *****y about kernels, has an unthrottling mod, has a bunch on themes that won't break the optimizations, all kinds of other appearance mods both flashable and metamorph. I've got that version, running the cyan 4x5 theme, unthrottled, with Ziggy's 031811 beta kernel oc'd to 1153MHz. Runs like a raped ape. Totally love it.

Incredibly Re-Engineered is a great Rom, but the no MMS over wifi was a killer for me. Magnolia is 100% DInc framework, so there are no EVO/Z port quirks and is very peppy, drop a Ziggy or HIL kernel and your good to go. There isn't a whole lot of theming, but there is some, and both the themer and dev are very responsive and helpful when it comes to one-off modding

Run Cyanogen 7 with a stock kernel (overclock if you want but it does not do much) and you will notice the difference. From what I have seen, most of the Z-Roms are slow and full of bugs.
Cyanogen also scored quite a bit higher on Quadrant and Smartbench benchmarks.
I agree CM7(gingerbread) will improve your overall speed of the phone.
CM7 did some work for my phone. I recommend it.

If you want to keep the Sense UI - some prefer it, myself included, I'm a "bells and whistles" guy, try SkyRaider 3.5, it will not disappoint you, is smooth as butter fast, and has not once given me any ****. I am going to flash CM7 tonight to see whats new with it and how it runs but historically (IMO!) it is a tad too plain Jane for me.
I was a "Sense" guy till I went to CM7, now I've been converted. Almost every widget Sense brings to the table there is a similar and as polished replacement. So far I haven't found a single thing that I miss from Sense with my current CM7 setup. I actually went back to Z ROM a couple days ago because I thought I missed sense then I realized how much faster CM7 really was. I might go back to Sense once there is a stable GingerSense available if there is a performance increase but till them I'm all about CM7, its also worth noting that my battery life is nearly double with CM7 compared to other Sense ROMs I've ran using a the same sync profiles on each of them.
Honestly, I'm going to recommend Warm 2.2. I'm running it with the Ziggy 12/19/10 that is included, UNDERclocked to 806MHz. It's still smooth as silk and lasts forever on battery.
I'm using Inc. Rom 1.5 Beta 2, and it is smoking fast (and has Sense)
Generally Sense is additional overhead, so any ROM that doesn't use it, has the potential to be fast.
I run Redemption 2.4 with the last Sense Incredikernel. So far im impressed with the smartass scaling and Ive underclocked to 883mhz (although i have the option to overclock for more speed) and ive noticed no slowdown. Not to mention Redemption is the most rock solid rom ive used so far. Im not a big theme-ing guy, im more about optimization, so maybe another RR fan can speak on that.

However I'm really looking forward to Vision 1.3 I can't run the other ones with this phone because the 1400mhz is pre-undervolted and Genocide is the only one that lets me custom UV 1400 at this time. I'm running SRF 1.2 and I am having great success with the ACS Twilight Zone kernel. Took my phone off the charger this morning at 10:30, made a call, went to work, made more calls and sent texts, played a game for a while, came home, and now it's 7:30pm and the phone still has 74% battery life with. I did calibrate my battery (Look it up, there's a guide here) last night so that may be a part of it.
I find Genocide 2.0 to be the best possible kernel to use, especially on SFR. It's very snappy and the only kernel I know of that allows dual booting
What's the best gingerbread rom for stability and battery life? I feel like most of the EG22 roms are too early in development for daily use, would an EF02 rom be better?

I honestly don't even see a performance increase with non-stock kernels.
I really wish we had a fully functional CM7 though.
As I stated in the other two threads, I am running Random Rom Osprey and it has been nearly flawless. It does have a RAM leak that causes the phone to reboot every once in awhile, so I recommend journaling on, but very smooth, there is no rotation lag. And GPS works.
I've tried midNight 6 - EE03, Bamboozle 1.1 EF02, Go Green EG22 and now RandomROM Osprey
to be honest the one i've thought had the best bang was/is bamboozle w/journaling on ... its WAY fast and the theme marcus did is really nice.
I like this RandomROM a lot, I left bamboozle to see if it was the EF02 rom that was causing the cell stand by eating the battery, it isn't. EG22 does it just as much.
RandomROM is good and has a really nice theme, it isn't quite as fast as Bamboozle.
go Green was fast, though the theme was still being tweaked. Which made it a bit hard to use at times. I'm sure once the theme is done it'll rock. for some reason no theme I tried to flash over it would work. most likely operator error.
I might jump back to bamboozle until GB release, hope in a few weeks. it is just crazy fast. I am interested to see what Random has been cooking up for his next update. Nice to have options !!
These Devs ROCK !!!
I see better battery life with Random then I did with Bamboozle. Random seems to run TW4.5 better too. I don't think you can go wrong with either one, but I think I would give the themeing nod to Bamboozle. I just like the fact that Random is EG22.

Legendary is what I am using on both my Epics and its been super stable once it got out of beta. And god with over clocking options. and the DEVS are always there (daily) to answer questions.
I did some testing of ACS ICS, Legendary ERA, Sleeper, ThunderHawk, Starsky, and CleanGB. I completely wiped my phone between each install. Then I used quadrant to test each. I know some people say that Quadrant results don't mean anything but I figure if I'm using it on the same phone and testing in the same way it should be good for comparing ROMs on my particular phone. Anyway, I ran three benchmarks rebooting between each run. Here are the averages.
Sleeper 1151.3
Clean GB 16 1369
ThunderHawk 3.2 2015
ACS ICS 2218.7
Starsky 1.5 2335
ERA RC 2.1 2495.7
I don't know if that helps you or not but I hope it does. BTW, I haven't had any stability problems with any of these ROMS.
Quadrant doesnt mean anything because some roms have tweaks that make quadrant higher and not real performance.

I'm running the Legendary 2.1 and I must say, it is really really snappy. I just did update the kernel to the 2.0.8 Samurai and it seems to have gotten even better. WAY faster than stock GB and significantly faster than SRF 1.2 that I was on for awhile.
Did some more testing, this time with Smartbench 2011. Here is a chart that summarizes the data from my tests. Like before I wiped everything 3x, loaded the ROM, installed Smartbench 2011, ran 3 tests rebooting in between each. I then took an average of the scores and used them in the chart.
i have been keeping my backup of sleeper rom v1.0.07a because it seems to be the most stable and fastest. i don't get the stability out of the last updates. legendary rc2.1 was also good but i did get some fc issues i don't see out of sleeper rom
Thanks Johnknall for all the awesome testing you did. Very informative. I have recently become a very big fan of ACS ICS 5.5 ROM with the Samurai kernels. Very fast, very stable, and nice battery life.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I've been going through legendary 2.1, ACS ICS (various versions), marcusant revival, and yesterday I just installed SleeperRom 1.0.0.9.
I have to say that I really liked ACS ICS around 5.0 and 5.1, then I think he switched to samurai kernel in 5.5, and it just wasn't smooth for me anymore. but 5.0 and 5.1 did not have the camera mod that I liked.
The revival seems to run pretty smooth, but the battery life was not nearly as good as I got on ACS ICS and that's probably because of the lockscreen mods. I think Marcusant posted a mod to remove the lockscreen mod. Maybe I'll try that again, but the red theming didn't really grow on me enough, and flashing themes seems sloppy in my opinion.
Anyway, I'm really liking sleeperrom 1.0.0.9. Great battery life. Smooth performance, and it just feels nice and snappy.
I want to give props to SenseiSimple for a great rom, and also Marcusant because I really liked ACS ICS too, but it just never felt finished to me.
