Help with S-Off Precedure With Alpharev - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sup guys! im kinda new to this forum and im kinda stuck with S-Off Precedure With Alpharev.
I am not sure which hboot to download so i went to "bravo_alphaspl-cm7r2.img"
I had burn the img to be bootable disc and when it boots, it read the disc and it prompt me to boot back in windows xp.
Did i download the wrong hboot or i am not burning a bootable disc?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

You need to download and burn the Alpharev utility to disc, boot that and it will run you through the s-off procedure. You then flash the .img file you currently have through fastboot.

That is a hboot paritioning image.
You should download this http://alpharev.nl/alpharev.iso and burn it on a cd.
To flash the image file you mentioned use this procedure:
1) Nandroid backup in recovery.
2) Verify the MD5SUM of the file you downloaded against the one in the table.
3) Flash HBOOT with your phone in fastboot mode (Back+POWER) -> 'fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' (change into the correct filename for the HBOOT you downloaded)
4) 'fastboot reboot-bootloader'
5) 'fastboot erase cache'
6) Boot recovery, wipe everything and restore.
Read more carefully the page.

Thank you so much!

Also, try to push HBoot img with Android Flasher. Pretty simple to use.

My phone is bricked I think
Erm guys, I have a huge problem. I think I just brick my phone.
While I was upgrading my htc desire radio, I think I rebooted the phone. Now I can't on or even charge the phone.
Is my phone screwed?

Something going wrong while flashing a radio can brick your phone. I assume the computer doesn't recognize it and you can't boot into fastboot? Hope that's not the case.

nope i cant boot it up in any way. Even when i plug into a power supply, the orange light does not light up

It would seem to me that your phone is bricked. Might have to send it in for warranty unless someone else has any ideas.

OH GOD! I am so ******* screwed huh?

Unless someone says otherwise, yes. Sorry.

No fastboot either ? Back button + power

Help - flashing pb99.img in hboot no PC.

Hi.
I have a rooted s-off desire using alpha rev 1.8.
I'm currently trying to resize the nand partitions using the method on the alpharev.nl site, without a pc. I'm running cm6.1 rom, so I downloaded the n1table zip ready to flash. Its renamed to pb99img.zip on root of sdcard. I've reboot into hboot using volume+down and I'm not quite sure where to go from here. I tried going into recovery and installing zip from SD but it doesnt seem to have worked as when I reboot into rom and check SD storage, it remains the same as before.
I know I must be missing something basic. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Cheers.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Do NOT continue with what you're doing. Have you even read the instructions on the AlphaRev site? You flash a new MTD table using the fastboot commands of adb:
1) Nandroid backup in recovery.
2) Verify the MD5SUM of the file you downloaded against the one in the table.
3) Flash HBOOT with your phone in fastboot mode (Back+POWER) -> 'fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' (change into the correct filename for the HBOOT you downloaded)
4) 'Fastboot reboot-bootloader'
5) 'Fastboot erase cache'
6) Boot recovery, wipe everything and restore
It´s also working with HBOOT...but I think you have to rename it to PB99IMG.zip (case Sensitiv)
If you have it in your / Filesystem on your SD Card, you will be asked after booting to Bootloader if you want to update.
Answer with "Volume up" or "down"
YOU DO NOT RENAME AN ALPHAREV HBOOT MOD TO PB99IMG
That is for Zip versions of the RUUs and NOTHING to do with AlphaRev
Seriously, read up before you brick your phone
From the Aplha Rev HP:
You can also download the corresponding PB99IMG zipfile, put it on your sdcard, and rename it to PB99IMG.zip. Then start the phone in HBOOT mode (VolDown+POWER) to flash the HBOOT without a PC.
Sorry, if I don´t understand this right...but that´s a fact from his Page
I´m sure Fastboot is the better way...but I tried it like this and it worked
I stand corrected, didn't see they had that option now. My apologies
In which case, you'd download the relevent ZIP file, rename it PB99IMG.zip (not PB99IMG.zip.zip) and put it on the root of our SD card (root - not in any folders)
Then, when you boot into HBOOT it should just pick it up and ask if you want to flash it - you don't go into recovery
no Probs
I never got asked if i wanted to flash the hBOOT
I'm running a rooted HTC desire and i'm trying to load flash the hboot to the oxygen variety
I haven't s-off my phone yet but wanted to use the no PC method outlined above
When i go into hBoot the phone picks up the PB99IMG.zip (saying "checking PB99IMG.zip......") but doen't give me the option to flash the hboot
Am i missing something? Do i have to s-off it the long way first?
Any help would be really appreciated
=]
Yes, you have to S-OFF first before you can change the MTD. It does say on the website:
"If you are already S-OFF, you can get our newest patched HBOOTs from here. (without going through the entire procedure again).
Please read the entire table and pick the partition table with the correct sizes for your ROM. One easy way to switch partition tables, is to nandroid backup,
and verify that the sizes of your backup are indeed the ones listed in the table (or smaller), and restore after flashing hboot."
Any idea if i can choose the Oxygen variation when i use the AlphaRev 1.8 HBOOT reflash utility or will i need to do it again with a PB99IMG.zip after?

Do the Alpharev 1.8 Flash first.
Then connect your phone, boot into Fastboot mode, and run the foll:
1) Nandroid backup in recovery.
2) Verify the MD5SUM of the file you downloaded against the one in the table.
3) Flash HBOOT with your phone in fastboot mode (Back+POWER) -> 'fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' (change into the correct filename for the HBOOT you downloaded)
4) 'Fastboot reboot-bootloader'
5) 'Fastboot erase cache'
6) Boot recovery, wipe everything and restore.

Again a quote from their site
Edit: Alpharev seems to have taken down the Pb99img method

Of course I have read the instructions thoroughly. I would never do anything without reading several times over. As another member pointed out, you can in fact flash from .zip
However it would not work for me, probably a lot of others too, as another member mentioned it has been removed from site.
I have now switched to miui and am not encountering any storage space issues as yet, so I think ill leave it alone for awhile. Thanks for everyone's input and help.
Cheers.

Anyone got this to work? Ive tried following the instructions (I have s-off and have repartitioned my HBOOT previously with ADB) and it just says no image found when I load into fastboot
When I try to do it from the SD card on mine, it finds the PB99IMG.zip file but then says "Model ID invalid. Update Fail!" then asks if I want to reboot or not. Rebooting just performs a normal reboot with no changes.

Obviously, you're trying to install a file meant for another device! That's a very dangerous thing to do!
It's the PB99IMG.zip for the Oxygen HBOOT. How can it be for the wrong device? I'm s-off, running Oxygen RC7.

At least that's what the error code means anyway..Is there a reason why you cant fastboot flash the img?
Yea, I assumed that. I can't seem to get fastboot working again on my machine. It was working but I haven't had much time to look into what happened. ADB devices brings up the serial number but fastboot won't detect the phone. I was just trying to do this while I was at work and I don't have access to fastboot here.

Adb and fastboot detect the phone at different phases. If one detects, at that point, the other wouldnt.
Are u sure you're trying out fastboot in fastboot mode (poweroff, Back key+Power On)? At that point fastboot should work..Even most severely damaged phones are detected in fastboot
Yes, the phone is in fastboot when I'm trying this. I'm wondering if something happened to the fastboot driver or something. Either way, I'll look into it at some point.

can't figure out how to install alpharev?

Hi, I'm trying to install alphaRev because from what I've read it enables s-off and provides a modified partition table. Currently I run
Oxygen rc7
Clockwork recovery 2.5.0.7
Hboot 0.93
AlphaRev says to download the alpharev zip file for oxygen, remake it and put it on my sd, which I've done. Then it says to go into hboot and install. How do I install the alphaRev zip from my sd in hboot!?
Any help!
The initial S-OFF needs to be done via a bootable CD, you then change the partition table after this should you need to. You need to read the instructions closer

hmm, OK. It's quite tricky for me as I have fairly rubbish dyslexia and so I get confused when reading
What advantages does S-Off provide? I will try that now and report back
If you don't know what it does don't even do it! Read up on it more before doing anything as it can potentially brick your phone with no chance of repair

I was less interested in the S-Off option, but wanted the modified partition table that AlphaRev offers over the stock HBoot. Apparently it providers a fair bit more space for apps on the phone. But, alas, I got Alpharevs flashing program and it worked fine. I am now running AlphaRev Hboot 0.93.0001 with S-Off (well, from what I think I read, S-Ignored!)
So, next question is, how do I get around to installing the modified partition tables provided on the AlphaRev site, or did this automatically get done as a part of the flashing process I have just done? I'm not trying to be lazy, I have honestly read around, it's just quite confusing (especially for me) and I find it easier when someone explains it in Layman's terms!
Direct from alpharev.nl and must be done in Fastboot:
1) Nandroid backup in recovery.
2) Verify the MD5SUM of the file you downloaded against the one in the table.
3) Flash HBOOT with your phone in fastboot mode (Back+POWER) -> 'fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' (change into the correct filename for the HBOOT you downloaded)
4) 'fastboot reboot-bootloader'
5) 'fastboot erase cache'

Thank a lot for detail introduce
NP. As I said, it was copied directly from the alpharev site. Keep in mind that this can possibly brick your phone if the checksum doesn't match or something goes wrong during the flash.

Ok, I didn't actually get that far I did this technique:

I downloaded "PB99IMG_bravo_oxygen.zip" renamed it to "PB99IMG.zip". I booted into Hboot, it asked me if i'd like to update, so I said yes which it did... now... it's getting stuck on the Alpharev why so serious splash screen.
I wonder if I just bricked my phone..............................
Did you just reboot it after the flash? I'm not sure how to flash it via the SD card but something tells me that you still need a wipe and reinstall. Your ROM might not fit in the new partition. but I honestly have no idea, just trying to give you possible ideas. Wait till someone else can confirm.
So, yah, effectively looks like i've done something bad. AlphaRev installed fine and s-off is ok. Just the last steps I took to install a custom partition seem to have gone... wrong...
Basically, turning it on as normal and it gets stuck on the AlphaRev "why so serious" splash screen. It can operate fine in Hboot and Recovery mode... so what's the best way out of this mess?
EDIT: More info!
So, after flashing AlphaRev it displayed:
--Alpharev--
Bravo PVT1 Ship S-Off
Hboot 0.93.0001
etc...

I then used the SD Card flash means of install the Oxygen Partition table through Hboot. After this is when it gets stuck on the AlphaRev splash screen. It works in Hboot and Recovery. In the former it now shows
AlphaRev Oxygen
Bravo PVT1 Ship S-Off
HBOOT 0.93.1000

It looks to me like the flash was successful, you just need to wipe and reinstall the ROM. In this case, Oxygen or Redux..the only 2 that will fit in that partition.

You know what, you're right (I think). I have been an absolute spanner and forgot to actually re-install Oxygen after installing the new partition. Just re-did RC7 (thank the lord I still had the zip on my SD) and we're back alive again.

Well, there you go, I learnt from a mistake. It can be scary when things don't go to plan, but i'm quite happy I managed to get it all installed and running. I just have to work out how to change the splashscreen to something else.
I saw the instructions about fastboot... but I don't exactly understand where the terminal is that I have to use. Do I connect it to my PC is fastboot mode and use CMD?
Yes, you use CMD. There is a tutorial for Fastboot telling you all the stuff you need to install to get it up and running. For flashing a new Splash screen you should look into the Android Flasher utility somewhere on XDA. It's basically Fastboot with a GUI so you can easily flash HBOOT, custom splash, radios and something else that I forget.
This is why you READ before doing anything. You've been lucky...

Hmmm... well I got the flashing program, but whilst it has changed the splash screen... it's not to the one I defined! Gone is old Why So Serious man... but he's been replaced by some little green men riding skateboards.

Might be the wrong format/height/size. Im'a fiddle more. I'll fix it until it breaks.
Maybe just try it again or ask in that the Android Flasher thread. I had no problem having it flash my image. Is the image the proper file format?
Think it needs to be BMP.
Got it working fine, was the wrong dimensions I believe. However, the app itself is about as stable as a woman on her period. It crashes every few minutes with unhandled exceptions

[HELP!!!!] Is my phone bricked? forever?? :-(

Hello!
Today i decided to unroot my phonea and get the original android 2.3 from google.. Because of to many bugs in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113
I read somewhere throw a Google-search that i just had to download the latest RUU.. So i downloaded: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
I ran it, and now my phone i stock here.... I cant do anything now.. Is my phone bricked? If not, can I fix this? how? If it IS bricked, can i still fix it?
This is how my phone looks, when booting: http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/2440/wp0000432.jpg
If I plug it in the USB, and unplug it shows this: http://i51.tinypic.com/2r6clf9.jpg But with me the "Fail-PU" is at "System", and the "Bootloader" is "Bypassed"
I use Alpharev++
Please help, don't have any other phone!
screen with 4 triangles is sort of fastboot...
download downgrade from alpharev and flash it via fastboot:
fastboot flash hboot "downgrade.img"
"downgrade.img" is path and file name of your downloaded downgrade hboot file
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
then run RUU
more info in Bortak's guide
Shall i copy "downgrade.img" to my sd card or what?
copy you to that folder you have where fastboot is installed and rename file to downgrade.img
and type
fastboot flash hboot downgrade.img
Trying to install right now.. 52%..
it worked! OMG i love you!!!!

Try this:
1. power down
2. remove battery
3. press and hold power button for 10 sec.
4. reinstall battery
5. press and hold the volume down button
6. press the power button to turn the phone on but DO NOT release the volume button until you can see the boot screen.
when you are in the boot screen one of the options in the list should say recovery. use the volume button to navigate down to that option and press the power button to select it. your phone should then boot into recovery and you will get the recovery screen and choices.
thanks
i did it but when i get into recovery i see the phone with the sing and then i reboot get stock in htc evo 4g logo if u have any idea how to get into the phone to flash any rom would b perfect tnx
Sounds like it could be a USB brick. This has happened to me before. I remember when that happened to me and couldn't get into recovery. For some reason when I plugged in the micro usb to the phone it would let me boot into recovery. Give that a shot and try searching usb brick. Also my sd card could not be recognized once I booted into recovery.
How did you try to downgrade?

any idea where can i get an usb brick??
I'm not familiar with a USB brick, but I believe that your computer can still read your phone through USB. I see that you were trying to S-OFF the phone. Looks like something went wrong when you flashed the misc partition, which locked your bootloader once again.
You should try running an RUU file from your computer with your phone connected which can be found here.
http://goo.im/stock/supersonic/ruu/...15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed.exe
But first, you will need to install the Fastboot drivers to your computer which can be found here
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
You need to run the RUU from your phone's bootloader from FASTBOOT USB (click on Fastboot then run the RUU from your computer).
If that works, that should at least get your phone back going again (unrooted of course).
i did but w/ the ruu doesnt work too appears error 155 unknow problem n stops i dont know what else to do
Just checking, did you run the RUU in FASTBOOT USB which should have been highlighted in red from your bootloader after clicking FASTBOOT? Also, with your phone connected to your computer while in FASTBOOT USB, check your computer's device manager from the control panel and see do you see anything under Android USB devices.
And too, which PC36IMG file did you try to run?
Sounds like you tryed to downgrade your hboot to the Eng hboot. If that is what you did, then congradulations! You have successfully bricked your device! Hboots are generally NOT downgradable...especially 2.18 to eng

Yea, I was afraid that the wrong PC36IMG file was indeed used. Generally on the newer phones, any downgrade of the Hboot below 2.02 is a guaranteed brick. That's why Captain Throwback only recommends PC36IMG files down to Hboot 2.10 (the 2.02 ones don't work with S-ON phones). On the older hardware however, the Hboot can be downgraded to anything, including 0.76 from 2.18. I've done it on mines. You just have to know which hardware version and partition erasesize your phone has.

The best advice that I can give you is to reboot the phone into FASTBOOT USB (connect it to your computer, then go to your bootloader and click on FASTBOOT), then go back to the HTCdev site, start over and try to re-unlock your bootloader. If you can do that, then I may have a workaround for you If not, there might not be much else that you can do.

Oh no. I don't know which tutorial you got those instructions from.
I'm also lost with your description of what happened. I hope you unlocked your bootloader, and can now boot into the operating system. If so, you were not suppose to rename the ss_stock_4.67 file to PC36IMG. You were suppose to flash that through RECOVERY as is. If I were you, I would go back to RECOVERY, and wipe All Factory/Reset (or whatever it says) and Dalvik-cache, then reflash the ss_stock file or another ROM.
Second, the adb commands only work from the operating system, not FASTBOOT. You need to be inside the operating system with your phone connected to your computer and USB Debugging enabled under Settings/Applications.

i change the name cos the bootloader let me flash the recovery amon ra 2.3 then i can see the recovery menu n i flash the rom named pc36img n give me the sprint w/ errors now i download another rom that i flash n now my computer can read the sdcard but im still locked n i dont know if im still rooted so the what i think is i have a usb brick so i need to unbrick my usb to use the adb command so i apreciate ur help w/ this thanks all of u for ur help

Stuck on HTC screen - can't access

Hi
I've looked on here already to try to find a (working) solution for my problem but haven't so far. My HTC desire was
downgraded from ICS to a gingerbread rom successfully - however - upon trying to unlock (unbrand) my phone the
software was stopping this so i tried to install a stock rom on it via usb cable. It downloaded successfully and rebooted.
But when it restarted it stuck on the "htc" loading screen. The only way i can turn it off is to remove the battery - also
when i try to enter recovery it just sticks on the HTC screen too.
This is what it says on the HBOOT screen:

Okay thanks a lot, just done it now.
I typed in fastboot erase memory and this pops up:
erasing memory....FAILED (remote: partition is not existed!)
Any idea what this means?
I did the second part anyway and it went into recovery fine, i tried to install a zip from sd but it aborted it because it was "bad"

Ive installed cyanogen, but I want to install a stock rom for it (this is what i was doing originally)- do I need to unroot it? What are the steps now?
Thanks a ton.

If you want it neat and clean to start from beginning, download alpharev downgrade hboot, flash it via fastboot (follow the instructions from site), download 2.3 RUU from htcdev, unpack it and run from your PC.
The previous attempt to return to stock GB ended with failure because you have revolutionary hboot which is write protected and hboot and radio can't be flashed. So, you had the old radio on your device (RADIO-4.05.00.11) and GB needed a newer one and after flashing it didn't want to boot.
With downgrade you will unlock write protection and RUU will overwrite both hboot and radio.

I've just gone to the AlphaRev site to download the patch - i can't figure out which one to download. I currently have
update-cm-7.2.0-RC2-bravo-signed.zip installed (cyanogenmod7)
Thanks!

It's not a patch, it's hboot that you're looking for. It's the last one on table, nicely called "Bravo Downgrader".

Hi again, thank you for your reply. I'm new to this and when i ran through the instructions on alpharev, it didnt work so im obviously doing something wrong, and don't want to mess it up so could you please say whether this is the correct way to do it
From the instructions on alpharev its goes as:
1) nandroid backup in recovery - I have 4ext recovery, so i just basically click "backup" right?
2) download bravo_downgrade.img
3) go into hboot (power+back button)
Now this is the bit im confused about:
fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' (change into the correct filename for the HBOOT you downloaded)
4) 'fastboot reboot-bootloader'
5) 'fastboot erase cache'
6) Boot recovery, wipe everything and restore.
I don't see these options available to me, is this because I have 4ext and just need the normal clockworkmod?
Thankyou.

4) & 5) are fastboot commands.. so make sure u have fastboot set up on ur computer. click adb & fastboot in my sig if u dont.
once setup, download the bravo_downgrade.img and put it in ur C:\ drive on ur computer, then put ur phone into fastboot, hold back button + power and plug in ur phone (usb) so it says "fastboot usb" then open fastboot command window and type -
fastboot flash hboot c:\bravo_downgrade.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
then boot into recovery and do what u need to do
