epic is showing NO SIGNS OF LIFE!! screen is black .. wont boot into download or recovery .. not charging either : (
did i really brick my first phone : //
help!
if i take it to sprint tomorrow will they be able to tell i've had about 1891238302942 different roms on it?? lol

it shouldn't matter if you don't tell them that because if they reset your phone, everything is gone LOL! so SHHHHH

sooo what do you tell them when they ask what happened??
im such a terrible liar : / lol

Did you try taking the battery out plugging in usb then boot into download mode? Seems to work when this happens.

oh yes. i've pressed every variation of 1, 9 (read that somewhere, forgot where) volume up and down, camera, pressing and holding the power button for 10 secs, pulling battery/pressing power twice/battery up and power on .. still no life for the little guy : /
he is on the charger though (with no little red light) and its warm like its charging ..

Happened to me with the ef02 leak...just take it to sprint if u have insurance its free....have fun waiting lol

U did try to boot into download mode with no battery, correct? If so, it does seem to be bricked. That blows rat nutts...... sorry to hear that

im a terrible liar and V E R Y impatient .. this probably wont go well. especially since i have no phone to play on while waiting : // lol

yes : ( and its been well over an hour, probably two. guess i'll try again in the morning. cause tomorrows a new day, right? and everything will be all better : ) lol

Just tell them you took it out of your pocket and it was really warm and wouldn't respond.

Pull the SD card out and try booting into download mode (1 key + power button).

mine bricked also i told sprint that when i was starting my phone it it dropped and the battery fell out. I am now currently using a lg rumor the first one while I wait for my replacement. I get to tinker with my bricked epic till it comes in I have been trying everything I can find. still no luck but what can you do but to wait for the shiny new epic beauty. 1 thing interesting is the rumor's ciq version is 3.1.4 and still has a prl of 50555

do the lights come on?
the bottom back light keys as qbking would say
And if still have lights then you may be able to bring it back

nope .. none of the lights come on or anything. went to sprint at 1230, was out by 1240 .. new phone will be here tuesday.
i was pleasantly surprised with sprints customer service. they used to make me want to K I L L them : ) lol

wow i thought i was officially joining this club for people who truly bricked their phones, lol.
however as i was reading this thread i read this:

but the paperclip thing worked, AND my phone just finished flashing efo2 as we speak, and now i am happy, lol.
cause i was sad, very sad, very very sad, boo, boo hoo, boo hoo hoo.

Recovery Mode - HEAT will force access!

This deserves its own thread. For more people to see.
Alright guys, here it is.
I was able to access recovery mode on my bricked phone in a way that all of you may think is stupid.
I have a Bell Canada Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. My phone somehow bricked it self a few days ago. I wasnt able to get into recovery mode at all, no matter what I tried, how many times, and I tried every single method with no success.
People on XDA Forums were mentioning about heat somehow allowing you to access the recovery mode. Some said putting it facedown in the sun for a few minutes, some said plugging it in for 15-20 min, some said playing games on the phone to heat it will would also allow them to access the un-accessible recovery mode on their phone.
I tried all of them.
I put my phone in the oven for 5 minutes, twice, last night, did not work.
Ok I thoght to myself. Maybe I need more heat. To get it hot to the touch.
So I tried once again today, and what a shock, I was able to get in recovery mode via the 3 button - WITH BATTERY OUT, HOLD VOL UP + HOME BUTTON + POWER BUTTON, then insert battery, and let go of the power button once your phone turns on.
Took 3 seconds to set everything to restore, in the recovery mode.
And done.
It worked for me.
If you are going to try this, maybe try with a hair blow dryer first.
I dont have one of those, so I couldnt, to be safer.
I will not be held accountable for any damage you do if you leave it in too long or damage your phone in any way.
This worked for me. Im happy I got it working.
The only thing which worries me now........
What if heat or cold can cause your phone to brick itself?
My phone bricked itself out of nowhere, no idea how. And what if it happens again.....

LMAO @ holey s*!t it f**king worked in the video. This is a very good post for people having the no recovery mode issue but I'd probably warn them not to go the idiot thing hand heat the phone up until it melts.

Im so embarrassed people keep commenting about that. I dont know what i was thinking.
I told people to try a hair blow dryer if they have one available. Hopefully people who cant access the recovery screen can do it after trying that out.
It may take 3 tries like me, but damn for sure it worked.
Previously before that I tried 3 button methods for 8 hours in total, never got it once.
I'm wondering HOW the heat gave you acces to the recovery screen

Ummm.... Did you try the pull the battery thing before heating the phone?
If heating actually makes a difference it may be a hardware fault, where a reflow off the board solves bad solder points. Same as with broken ps3s... I.m guessing that as with the ps3, the fix won't last... But in this case it may not be a problem unless you happen to brick the phone again.

I tried to do recovery with 3 button methods, all the methods, posted on this forum and others. For about 8 hours in 2 days none stop... 100's of times.
None of them worked. Only after the heat trick.

It took me 3 tries in the oven. You might just have to keep trying.
I was going to give up last night, but I said f**k it, going to keep trying and it worked...
Alright so after re-installing most of my apps and games I just did a reboot (3 times), and it will not go into recovery.
After I did the oven trick, it worked right away. So I am 100% positive its heat that somehow allows it to enter recovery.
(I didnt let them take my phone, and they were out of stock, so I kept it to wait for more to be in stock)
When I was at the store a few days ago trying to exchange my phone.
A Bell store manager said that they have some special machine where they plug the phone into and it forces the phone into recovery.
I am guessing its a heating machine, maybe mini oven, in the back of the store.
This must be a Bell Manager's secret or something.
Im happy with my phone now, so its all good.
Congrats.
Nothing has worked for me so far, and according to the chap on the phone at Best Buy, it looks like no stock will be arriving until mid-next week. I'll be dropping by the store for a rain-check, as I'm almost done my 14-day exchange window with no stock in sight.

Man I dont know, but if heat can unbrick my phone, that says something...
If you read in the this entire thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754673
You will then see why I decided to put my phone in the oven.
Some people were saying that heating their phones, would allow it to access the recovery menu.
I just went all out with it.
And it is worrying... But wtf can we do, Samsung has to step up and tell us whats really going on!!!
Well, to add some credibility to this X-Filesy story, do a scan for text strings on your modem.bin file: believe it or nit, there is text mentioning a thermistor check in there (probably related to battery charging I think).
Since a thermistor is a kind of resistor whose resistance varies rapidly and predictably with temperature, and a piece of software specifically checks on its performance, it is not unlikely that the result of this check, depending on temperature, can influence the behaviour of other parts of the system.
In short, IMO, it's quite possible the phone is setup to get into recovery (or debug) mode easier when it is overheating (during charging, extreme CPU or GPU load, or whatever) to make it easier for the techies to find out what the @#$ is going wrong with it.
spbtv a heating machine lol

incredible screen wont work

So afaik, this phone wasn't rooted. my friend gave it to me because he said it was broken and he was just going to use his upgrade for an iphone so im trying to see if I can salvage it. When I first got it, it was a complete dud, wouldn't turn on, wouldn't charge just existed. So I bought a new battery on ebay and slapped it in and the amber light came on. I felt a short vibration before I turned in on soon after I put the battery in, dont know if that means anything. Anyway, turned it on, it says "droid", light turns green and the bottom row of buttons light up but the screen is totally non functional. no backlight, no color, no feedback, just dead. the volume up and down rockers when its on either make it vibrate til i let go or give me the max volume ding and the bottom row of buttons give me the vibration feedback when pressed. So im coming here to determine whether it needs a new screen or something or if there is some hacking magic I can do to revive this.
I have seen where people have flashed the stock rom to bring a screen back to life. I don't know how the phone would have gotten to this point without rooting or hardware failure though. Basically you download a .zip file, put it on your SD, then install it in bootloader. Requires hitting the right buttons at the right time though and I don't know the sequence but I've seen it posted a few times so a search should find it. May not work but its worth a try, especially since it sounds like its working aside from the screen.

HELP! Samsung galaxy s2 sgh-t989 stuck in the ultimate boot loop.

Ok, so heres the deal. The s2 is my sisters phone, and she comes home and told me the phone wont turn on, that its stuck on the boot screen and it just keeps turning off and doing it again. So I started looking into it (Im an iPhone user, so I'm not too familiar with android devices. BUT I do know a bit about computers, cell phones and just technology in general). I ended up finding out that its stuck in a soft brick. So I started youtubing how to fix it. Found a great method using Odin3 and Samsung Kies. AND IT WORKED. I turned the phone back on, got past the lock screen and everything was all good.
After about 30 seconds, THE PHONE BRICKED AGAIN. And it went right back into the boot loop, I cant get it into download mode because it just keeps restarting after a couple of seconds. With that happening, I cant get the computer to recognize it so I can do a recovery fix with Samsung Kies. I legit cannot find any solution to it.
The thing that baffles me and is causing me a huge headache is the fact that THE PHONE IS NOT ROOTED. nothing has been done to it, its completely stock. So if there is no solution to it, can somebody at least tell me what might have been able to cause this?
Thanks to all,
Dariel
Probably bad sticky/stuck/sucky power button. That usually is the case when you can get into download mode but then it restarts.

I doubt its a corrupt OS, because like I said in my original post; my sisters phone is completely stock. No custom rom, no root. Nothing. So I'm leaning more towards the bad power button situation.

As far as I read, with this problem, Jigs dont help because the phone turns off regardless if they're in download mode or not. goodluck tho.

i only had th phone for about 2 months.... think you might be right...
it sounds like a bad power button
Like its been posted before, it sounds like you have a bad (or stuck) power button. OK try this (it might or might not work) take off the battery, and with your finger start rubbing the power button from side to side (take in consideration not to do it too hard, you don't want to hulk rub the phone to death). while you rub the button make sure to hear the click click every time you go over it. after that connect the battery and see if it boots. it worked for me. granted sometimes the problem comes back, so in all honesty this AINT a fix, its more of a workaround. but who knows it might work for you as well. Best of luck.

so i think these issues are different from OP. Though i can say, i did have the same issues you were describing.. im now happily on CM10 nightlies.. much faster and stable than the Darkside ICS rom!
Well I can verify that removing the power button from the mobo works brilliantly. No more boot loop on the t989 and nexus s. Only the middle and left or right side of the contacts need to be jumped to power it on. Remember it takes 10 seconds of holding a jumper there. Now where to find replacement buttons?
Hopes this helps guys.:good:
Alex K.
UbreakIfix technician.....
I think its a power button assembly problem. At first it would happen intermittently and it would go away till, no matter what I did, the phone would behave as if the power button was being pressed and not let go. It would happen more often when the phone would get moist due to rainy or humid conditions. So I opened up the phone, took the motherboard out and used a blow dryer on the power button area for about a minute, let it cool down and then reassemble (also blew some air in there just in case dust was causing the problem as well). The phone did not boot/reloop for a week. Then it started again, and I thought that maybe my case (d30 case) pushing on the power button really tightly all the time wasn't helping so, I cut away the are near the power button on my case and the problem has not come back in two weeks.
To Sum up....
Possible causes
-Tight cases pressing on the power buttons (Get a case that doesnt fit so tight on the phone, dont use one, or cut the power button area away from the case)
-Power button too sensitive to humidity and dust ( (disassemble , clean and heat the area up)
goood luck, my friend had the same problem before he traded it in to get an s3

Hard Bricked my Epic- Will I have to make an assurion claim?

Now before you say its not hard bricked, just use odin/download mode bla bla bla, know that I do know what I am talking about. I was odining WITH PARTION ON to go from mtd to bml and my computer power cut out. Now I can't turn my phone on OR get into download mode . I looked into th e unbrickable mod but apparently that's just more of an untested thing (at least for the epic). That pretty much means I can only get a new phone (probably get the note 2). However I was wondering for the time being if I turned this into sprint, assuming they don't know whats wrong with it and i play dumb, Will they just replace my phone cause I have tep? Or will i have to make an assurion claim? Or should i use an old crap phone for the next 3 weeks until i can get my gnote 2?
A month or so ago, I thought I had hard bricked from an odin disconnect. I searched & tried EVERYTHING and couldn't get it to DL mode. Somewhere in XDA I stumbled on a suggested unbrick method that amazingly worked. I wish I could find that post & hit Thanks.
- Close the keyboard
- Put the battery in
- Press the power button TWICE with short presses
- Plug in your USB cable
- Use 1+Power to fire up DL Mode
- Voila!!
I know it sounds overly simple, but it worked for me. I was shocked.

- Put the battery in
- Press the power button TWICE with short presses
- Plug in your USB cable
- Use 1+Power to fire up DL Mode
- Voila!!
I know it sounds overly simple, but it worked for me. I was shocked.

I don't know why, but they seemed to work...thank you!
Well, I guess my memory isn't so hot. I found the original post here. The instruction should have been to press the power button twice with the the battery OUT. I'm glad it worked for you anyway.

My friend told me it had something to do with waiting for the static something or other to clear with the battery out...so it may not have been your method. Just the two hours i got frusturated and didn't do anything with it and the battery out.

this drains the power out of the phone board, you could also unplug the battery and plug the phone into a WALL charger while holding power and 1, then after you get into download mode plug the battery in and take it to the usb for odin.

If its been 30 days you can go back to any sprint store and they have to give you a new one. I've done it. not for the s3 but for other phones. Thats considered a manufacturers defect.

I am having the same issue with my XL as well. Will only reboot if you boot into recovery ( vol down and power ) then reboot and continue where you left off. No fix yet.

I went through the RMA process. Due to the fact I did not buy my phone from the Google Store they will only have me send in my phone for the process which can take 10-12 business days. Unacceptable. They did say if I bought it from them they would mail me a replacement and I could mail the bad one in but since I bought it from BestBuy I am not allowed.. GGnoRE google. To be honest, after that I am done. I am probably going to replace this phone and not buy another Google phone again.
Thank you for your support and help.

BestBuy only has a 14 day return policy. Even when they do run the return if its not covered under a protection plan which is for physical damages ( $200 deducible to get the replacement ). On top of that they also have a restocking fee lol. When you try the return under the manufacturer warranty it tells me to Call Google.
I haven't even fully remembered what I lost but this has confirmed one of my concerns about a device that doesn't have an SD card .... Basically either Pixel I've lost everything that doesn't get backed up to the cloud
So I gotta get better at backup routine or get a device with an SD card
I believe titanium might be the way to go. https://www.titaniumtrack.com/titanium-backup.html
Well for sure TiBu would be helpful for your apps and some of the app says if you were doing backups online
I'm mainly taking about the scores of files that were accumulated in out device that may not get backed up ..... Where on a device with an SD card, I use the card mainly to store things.
Dont know if this is related, but i did a restore of a nandroid and when it finished the phone turned off all on its own. When i went to power it back on nothing would happen. Even trying to boot to recovery or fastboot did nothing. When i plugged it in no charging indicator, and it wasnt recognized by a pc. I thought it was bricked for sure. So sure i did a warranty claim. Well while boxing it up to send in i hit the power button and noticed a little white battery icon flash for a second then disapear. This was the most i got it to do since it shut it self off. So i went through the whole process again of trying to power it on again with no luck. Then i got an idea from back in the day i think it was with the droid incredible maby, to hold vol down and power while plugging it in. When i did this i again saw the little white battery icon flash on the screen. So i kept holding vol down and power while plugging and unplugging the power cord over and over again. About the sixth time plugging it in, it booted to fastboot. I screamed and jumped around like a little school girl i was so happy lol. Anyways i flashed the feb ota and it booted right up like it was brand new. Hopefully this may help someone else who thinks their phone is bricked.

Absolute unbelievable!!!
Now I'm thankful but maybe even more frustrated
This worked!!!!!
After an hour on the phone with Google support (I obviously knew more than they did) ..... Worse yet with an RMA device in hand ...... My phone is back up and running!!
Now... Should I send the reburbed RMA back or the original phone back? Lol
Awesome glad it worked. Im not sure if this is some sort of issue with the hardware that will eventually happen again, or just a weird software fluke thats over with for good. Its been about a week so far and all is well. I cancled the return and kept it.

The DINC! What a great device and learning tool that was! :good::good:
Thread cleaned. Keep it civil.
The lack of respect needs to stop. All users know there will be risks when doing anything to a phone post bootloader unlock.
