[Q] Lotus Traveler with Gingerbread - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My only hold up to updating to rooted Gingerbread is that Lotus Traveler does not seem to work with it (running 8.5.2); I had to flash back to Froyo because I need work e-mail. Has anyone been able to get their Notes data to sync with their Gingerbread EVO via Traveler? Thanks!

Hadn't tried to load it since going to GB, but will try and report back.

Tried it and it installs fine, but not able to sync or open Mail.

That is my experience too. Co-worker has a Droid X with GB and Traveler works fine. I flashed a nonsense ROM and it worked. So . . . seems to be a Sense issue. Anyone have any great ideas about what GB Sense would do to block communication with a remote server that Froyo Sense did not?

Not positive about this, but I think Traveler uses Activesync and you can use Touchdown to get your Notes mail.

I am running CM7 and having no issues using traveler. Sync options are set to 1 hour for non peak and 15 minutes for peak.
The only thing is that lotus traveler security installs itself as a device administrator
Settings/Location&Security/Select Device Administrators
I deselected that option, now each time i manually click the "mail" program (not when i open / read email) I get a reminder "activate device administrator" which i just hit "cancel" to.
A bit scary, grants access to:
Erase all data - Erase the phones data without warning by performing a factory data reset
Change the screen-unlock password - change the screen-unlock password
Set Password Rules - control the length and the characters allowed in screen - unlock passwords
Monitor screen unlock attempts - Monitor the number of incorrect passwords entered when unlocking the screen and lock the phone or erase all the phones data if too many incorrect passwords are entered
Lock the screen - control how and when the screen locks.
Probably fine- i just dont trust my company enough to give them this sort of access.
But yeah, I have been running it for over a month with no issues.
EDIT - I should add- traveler version 8.5.2 FP2

I had no problems running traveler with cm7, but our admin pushed out some security policies that required having to use a pin to unlock my phone. I uninstalled and haven't used it since. I don't miss it at all because I'm absolutely LOVING the new Lotus Launcher 2 (in the market)... it now syncs your notes calendar to your gmail calendar so I can finally get meeting alerts on my phone... which is the only reason I was even interested in traveler.

I just remembered.. when I upgraded from froyo to cm7, I did have to uninstall/reinstall traveler before it worked. Did you try that? I know for sure clearing cache/data did not help.. and my admin said that he had to do the same when he upgraded his phone.

I was able to get Traveler working with CM7 and Beck's nonsense GB ROM, but not rooted stock GB or Myn's Synergy - which is why I believe it is a Sense issue. Which is odd because Traveler works fine on Froyo Sense; but I do not know what changes HTC makes for Sense.
I am hoping to figure this out because Sense ROMs run more smoothly on my phone, and I really really really really want to ditch the BlackBerry permanently and really really really don't want to switch to an iPhone (my company's only two officially supported devices).
The intrusive permissions are a necessary evil in my biz.

I did, thanks - also ran "fix permissions" just in case. It seems to be a Sense/Nonsense issue. My Droid X co-worker (nonsense, obviously) is having no trouble running Traveler with GB.

My company's only supported and company issued device is the blackberry, I have a blackberry curve 9300 sitting on my kitchen counter at home with the calls forwarded to my android. My only issue is when coworkers send BBM's (black berry messenger) I am sometimes left out of the loop since there is no way to forward those along to my android. I love the keyboard and battery life on the blackberry, aside from that its such a weak device for anything beyond a standard phone call.
So far, traveler has freed me from the shackles of the 'berry.

As a follow-up, in case anyone wonders, I ended up going with Deck's GB AOSP ROM. It is fast, clean, mod-able, and everything works (including Traveler). I am happy to give up Sense if it means I can also give up the BlackBerry!

I am glad I came across this thread. I just started at a new job and they use Lotus notes. I don't want another Crackberry as I hate carrying two phones and my company only recently stated that we can use Traveller on Android phones. They wanted us to buy and use iPhones but I have talked my boss into getting a Nexus S for himself and I am getting the Evo.

Good to know. Work can just reach me on the POS crackberry they just got me. BB Torch. It's OK, but after a year of being on Android, it is light years behind the user experience Android is.

I am stock 2.3.3 GB running Lotus Traveler 8.5.2 with no issues.
I did have to uninstall and reinstall to get it to work after the GB upgrade.

I tried to run it on MikG (ran fine on MikFroyo) but after a successful install, it will not perform the initial sync and kicks out an Error 32. Tried install and reinstall but no luck. Really would like to get this running because I hate having to turn on my PC just to check where my next meeting is.

I had the same error until I switched to nonSense. I am convinced rooted GB Sense is the culprit.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

Anyone find more info on this? For those of us who want to stick with GB Sense do we just have to wait for a Traveler update? Been searching the developerWorks forums and I don't even see this mentioned any where...

Is there any one who take a look at this problem ?

You may have to switch to an aosp rom to get it to function. One of my colleagues had the same issue with sense roms- workaround was to switch to aosp (cm7)

Need some suggestions for my Tilt 2

I'm 25, a business guy (though I use my phone for personal use only) and have been looking over the forums for the best way to get the most use out of my phone. Right now I've just got the stock rom with only a couple of cabs installed. I've got my e-mail set up on it (though I have some issues with the send/receive not occurring when it's supposed to) and installed a few games. What I really want to be able to do with my phone is web surfing. There's some website I like to frequent.. a lot.. but it seems with the stock settings the internet is pretty slow. I do a lot of texting and e-mail replies as well. A few free games here and there would be nice too. I'm in a pretty stable 3G area, don't have any bluetooth devices hooked up nor do I use the wi-fi (haven't found a reason to use this really yet)
Looking through the forums I've gotten somewhat overloaded as to what I should get for my phone in terms of performance enhancements. Any suggestions to help with the above would be great.
note: I've never messed with my phone's registry or have flashed a rom, but would be willing to do so if the information could be provided.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Demonic, welcome.
I'll break it down based on what you need and where you can find it.
E-mails:
I really really really like seven beta for e-mails. I've posted the CAB here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634213
Internet:
TP2 has a feature called push internet, basically you can set websites to be automatically updated so the next load will be much faster. Browse to the internet tab in sense and set up the websites you frequent most often. I've heard it wastes battery life so I do not use it.
In terms of internet speed, I actually think we aren't full 3g on TP2 network. Here are the specs of the TP2 and a phone with full 3g. As you can see under data the tp2 is not the fastest available device:
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/HTC-Touch-Pro2-CDMA-phone-p_3710.html
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Palm-Pixi-Plus-phone-p_4308.html
its the same for all carriers btw.
Flashing rom/registry
Based on the overview you have given I would say registry tweaks and flashing a custom ROM isn't needed, although I love Mighty Mikes 6.5 much better than VZWs.
If you have more detailed questions feel free to PM me.
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm downloading seven now and will give that a shot!
forgot to give you all my fun links....check these out for games etc:

Thanks for those links. I installed Seven and love the push feature that it gives for my e-mail. It works like a charm, however there's an issue I'm running into. It seems that in order for Seven to work it needs to stay running constantly, and it won't let me close it. I'm also now having issues closing any other app that I run by holding down the "X". Between these two issues, and my phone not going into sleep mode as much as it should be my battery is already down to 30% (and it's not even 5pm yet =/)

I've heard push internet can really tax on the phones battery life, not sure if you are using that feature though.
Seven works perfectly fine for me having it running all day...I went a full 24 hours and was at 30%, I have 4 e-mail accounts synced through Seven.
Do you know what your phone RAM idles at? Try downloading and installing SSK TP2 Dynamic Resource proxy, it may help out with some of your problems.
I'm not sure what the closing issue is...could just be that your phone is using too much RAM, which the SSK cab should fix.
SPB mobile shell 3.5 is the best program for nonROM Cookers. Here is the link. Download the trial and PM me.
I use it the backup and various other things I found on here.
The SMS notification is a major annoyance so download the cab to disable it.
After you use your phone for a while- trust me, XDA will become a favorite to find tweaks to make your phone seem new again.
Demonic, based on the fact that you like to use the internet a lot I would highly recommend moving to a cooked rom when you feel comfortable. At&t doesn't open up the phones true potential with their "stock" rom. It's locked to 3G and a cooked rom will activate HSDPA which will double or triple 3G speeds. I can sustain download speeds over 2000kbps. Also the whole phone will be much more responsive.
There's a bit of reading needed and a learning curve but I'm sure you can handle it. I'd never even knew what flashing was in the fall of 08' and a year later I had flash my Fuze at least a 500 times. I've had the Tilt2 since Nov and it's been flashed over 50 times already
Here's a link to get started.
Flashing your First GSM Rhodium Rom (For Noobs)
After reading that if you have any questions ask them here and if it's not me here 1st I'm sure you'll still find all the help you need. There's a lot on talented people here on xda.
BTW, SPB Mobile Shell:
http://www.spb.com/products/mobileshell/
Its a great product with many intuitive features...for me it required a restart everyday though....which wasn't acceptable.
So now I'm having some issues with Seven... I have a good 3G signal, have restarted the phone multiple times, but it will only stay connect for a short time. When I go into the Seven settings I'm seeing a yellow broken symbol for the connection. I have to manually refresh all the data for the e-mail account in order for it to update. Some times it works great, others.. not so much.

What ROM's would you recommend for faster internet usage? Do they drastically change the appearance of the phone and/or do they inhibit some of the features?

No, most ROMs will be fairly similar, with minor visual changes, some feature changes, and different programs installed by default (usually the chefs favorite programs)

With Seven, make sure you don't have quite time on. In seven, hit the Menu soft key (bottom right) and click general settings. Then click the quiet time option and set the hours you do not wish to receive messages.
I think if you paid for the old version of Mobile Shell you can get the new version as well, try e-mailing one of the devs over there to help you out.

I have all of the quiet times turned off except for when roaming or low battery. When I unplugged my phone from the charger this morning it updated my e-mails like it normally does. I checked my phone again around 9:30 and the Seven settings said that it was last connected at 8:30 this morning and showed the "not connected" symbol. I had to manually refresh all data in order for it to re-connect.
If your mailserver supports IMAP I would try Schedhandler made by Camro on these forums it does IMAP IDLE great and doesn't hardly use any battery.
So I noticed Seven losing the connection again today. I then went to my connection settings and attempted to disable Data Connection. When I attempt to do this it automatically connects again. When I then go back to Seven it shows that it's trying to re-establish a connection and MAY connect.
Does anyone know why my e-mail will sometimes stay connected and then drop off irregularly?
@dalavar
I've tried many different settings (POP3 and IMAP4) using the basic MMS functions with windows 6.5 but have had issues receiving e-mails on a regular update basis. I had the same isssue with 6.1. Some times e-mails will work properly, other times I have to reboot my phone, or pray for my e-mails to receive. Even after doing a Send/Receive I still won't get e-mails on my phone at times.
I'm using sbcglobal for my e-mail, but if this keeps up I'm thinking of switching back to hotmail or gmail =/

Actually, I'm really surprised no one's been able to do a registry hack in terms of the HSDPA function.
And yeah, I agree...there's some really good chef's with cooked ROMs that blow the Death Star's crap and crippleware laden ROM to "Hades in a Longaberger". Unfortunately I've not had my phone 30 days yet, so I'm a little hesitant to flash yet. (even though I flashed my Kaiser/Tilt quite regularly once it was out of warranty)
As soon as the 30 days expire though...you bet it's gonna get flashed.

Go to your browser and type "about:config".
Find your connections and up them, the stock is like 4 connections and 6 max. I changed them both to 128 and change the page update delay to 0.

See if another email provider has this problem. I currently am connecting to the following and have experienced no errors since install:
Exchange Server
Y! Mail
gmail
POP3
Seems to be sbc related as both seven and your normal mail have issues connecting.
Sorry for the late response. SchedHandler seems to handle misconfigured or poorly configured IMAP servers very well you might want to give it a shot on your SBC account. And the author of the program is very active and makes changes sometimes daily.

Android ID

So I got a touch Pro 2 today from work and running klinux on it just fine on first attempt, now my question is, Is there any way to "spoof" and android ID to the device to use the android market and certain apps that look for an ID?
I tried searching the thread before posting but couldnt come up with any results.
you need a gmail acct. thats what market uses. of course i had an android phone once and set everything up.. you should be able to do the same here considering its android os.

u need to create google gmail account. Im running any and every app. I even confirmed apps that need to be rooted works fine on this build with nothing extra to be done. I guess our version of Android OS is already rooted(same thing as Jailbrake or anything unlocking your phone) to run unapproved apps. a good one to look for is Barnacle Wifi Tether app on Marketplace.
Hmm thats odd I did create a gmail account when I did the initial setup can check my email but market still crashes on startup
That's a known bug with the sense build.
Hmm okay so I switched over to the aosp build and stikk have the same issue. Okay so I don't have this unlockdd and currently its not activated on my account, trying to run it over wifi. I'm noticing this one won't activate in a sense over wifi so I'm waiting for my unlock code and hopefully I can do it over edge on tmo. I thought this would work over wifi

Sprite Backup 2.1 killed my HTC Sense widgets

Hi all,
I received a new Desire (and man, do I luuuurve it! ) and need to transfer everything from the "old" one (well, 2 weeks old) and couldn't find a free app that would backup everything ok. I used to have Sprite Backup on my previous HTCs courtesy of O2, and it always did a brilliant job. So I purchased the paid-for version on the Market, currently 2.0 which didn't work at all on the Desire, as reported in some comments.
What a useless bunch they are. I contacted them about a week ago and they confessed 2.0 doesn't work with the Desire, but they think they have a fix and sent me a 2.1 alpha (yes, alpha). They were right in part, the backup worked seamlessly. But then when I tried to restore the data on the new phone, Sprite Backup force-closed on the System Settings restore and I lost everything that was on the 7 home screens, and the HTC Sense widgets are simply gone for good. Trying to restore any item (System Settings, Contacts, Messages etc.) usually ends up either in force close or fail + bug report, and when it doesn't it says it was successful but actually restored nothing at all...
I've been trying to contact Sprite Software ever since, last time was 2 days ago, but they're not replying to me any more. Now I want my money back, I shouldn't have to pay for a service I never got, not mentioning the trouble and hours trying to fix my backup. Eventually I purchased MyBackup Pro which did a brilliant job at it, even though it doesn't backup the Home screens and my Sense widgets are still missing as they're not listed in my installed apps because they came as standard.
So sorry to go about it the long way, but I write for 2 reasons:
- For one, do not give your money to Sprite, at least not until they fix this problem and boost up their support service.
- And most importantly, how do I get my widgets back? Since they come as standard, they're not on the Market or anywhere else I looked. Or could I maybe factory-reset the phone and restore again but this time with MyBackup Pro? I was afraid that it might mess up the T-Mobile settings like it did on my old Polaris with O2, they could never fix the MMS settings after that (not that I receive that many anyway).
Help and advice much appreciated, thanks a lot in advance (well thanks NOT Sprite Software!). Happy Desiring all.
Jay
I experienced something similar with spirit, I simply factory reset the handset and it was fine.
That worked fine! No issues at all, even all the T-Mobile stuff was still there. Got my widgets back, I'm even shocked how good the hard reset is compared to WinMo, it's so stress-free that I could even imagine trying out a few custom ROMs without having to worry about getting it back in order if it goes wrong.
So happy I switched to Android, but I still haven't found a good backup app for the Desire. Sprite still ignoring me...

mybackup pro is perfect
I believe I was the one who first reported that 2.0 wouldn't work on the Desire 3 weeks ago. They originally asked me to download spritediagnostics from the Market, run it as soon as 2.0 crashed and email them the generated crash log. I did this and a few days later they sent me the 2.1Alpha. This worked on my Desire but wiped my HTC Sense widgets same as you. I reported the problem to them but had to Hard Reset to get them back. I can't say I've had the same poor customer service problems though as they've always responded very quickly even been helpful.
Anyhow, it took me days to get my phone back to how I like it so I'll not be using Sprite Backup again until they sort out the Sense widgets problem - there's no benefit to it over HTC's own on board backup.

232603 are you talking about the language support? wouldn't see any reason it wouldn't be supported in the future if it isn't already.

Bypass Google Accounts? Or alternatively set it up over a wireless network.
Howdy,
I have been watching the Android development for the Fuze with quite some interest for a while now, and it has made leaps and bounds over the past several months to the point where I decided to try it out.
It successfully booted into Android; however, I have data access to my phone disabled. This seems to cause the Google accounts set up to fail and causes some sort of infinite loop where it keeps asking to set up my account
Is there A) any way to bypass the Google Account set up and set it up later or B) jump on a wireless network (or alternatively jump to shell)?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Hi, i've been using xandroid since last month and everything is running OK except the battery is draining and charging quickly (1-2 hours) which is pretty unusual for normal usage or charging.
What I've noticed that this can also happened even in sleep mode. Did there is any way to preserve battery power? Usually it can stand up to 8 hour on WM6.5 (gps, data connection on).
I am using HTC Touch Pro (RAPHAEL).
Anyway it was the greatest effort you have put to make this device running Android

It is truly a problem when you only get a couple of hours of usage and even on sleep mode. There must be something you're using that keeping the device awake. To test what happening you can use adb logcat and it will let you know which process is kept on running or you can start a new build and test every app individually. Its a lengthly process but in the end if will help you and allow you to achieve greater battery life in the long run.
remap hard keys? my hard keys on the front bottom of the phone don't seem to work other than directional. Is there a way to make them work for back and menu? or remap some keyboard key to back and menu?
i changed the wall paper and then got into the endless xdaandroind logo boot screen. WTF ???? lost everything because of a wall paper from the ROM gallery which suppose to be ok.
A couple of questions about 2.2:
1. Is there anyway we can get slide to answer back?
2. Has 3d been activated on this build?

ROM has no effect on Android, that we've found.
Sounds like you didn't copy the startup.txt... Did you follow all the directions?

i changed the wall paper and then got into the endless xdaandroind logo boot screen. WTF ???? lost everything because of a wall paper from the ROM gallery which suppose to be ok.

Yep there are definitely some stability issues and will create an infinite loop. Until we get the builds more stable these issues will be present

Isn't slide to answer default? Otherwise we'll implement it in future builds
And yes 3d is activated in this build. From the very beginning of 2.2 and recently back into 2.1

remap hard keys? my hard keys on the front bottom of the phone don't seem to work other than directional. Is there a way to make them work for back and menu? or remap some keyboard key to back and menu?

First of all which device are you using and type?
This sounds like a very strange behavior and making a layout like this would be kind of useless. Does those buttons work in winmo?
yahoo issues?
ok guys weird problem. not sure if anyone else has it.
i use mail.yahoo.com at work. it has the chat feature. i use it to send text and msg's while at my desk.
i've noticed that since i've started using froyo, whenever my phone boots up or comes out of deepsleep, i get signed out of my yahoo chat with a message that i've been signed in somewhere else.
now i have no messenger on my device. i have yahoo mail through the stock android email app along with my gmail and exchange mail. i also have a yahoo news widget.
i have had my g/f send me a message after i am kicked out. on her messenger it lists me as mobile. i have never received a message from her on my device.
any ideas on this?

[Q] Droid Incredible Newb Question

As we all know the stock ROM that verizon pushes to our phone has a new annoying feature. When u connect the phone to the PC it makes a virtual CDROM drive. Ever since that got created on my phone it has caused me nothing but headaches. Namely that it causes my optical (DVDRW) drive tray to cycle open and closed. I thought that once I rooted my phone and installed a custom ROM that would go away. Sadly this is not the case. how do I get my phone to stop creating this virtual drive? Im assuming there is something in the ROM that can be changed to stop this. Now I know there is usually a CDROM.ISO file that exists in the stock HTC ROM and if u remove/rename that the drive wont show up in My Computer. My question is why does the HTC Android Phone USB device still appear on my system? Is there a way to prevent my phone from doing this? I am really tired of having my drive tray open and close for hours on end. I have taken to disabling the DVDRW in the device manager to get it to stop. I want to avoid doing that. Please help.
Nobody has any ideas??
Well I have some news. After I posted here on a whim I decided to send a support email to HTC. And they responded with some nifty instructions.
1. dial ##7764726
2. hit call
3. Type password 000000 (thats 6 zeros)
4. hit feature settings
5. choose cdrom
6. click disable
7. hit menu then commit modifications (it will say no item changed)
I tried the above instructions but I did not get any password box. It actually called the number. Maybe this only works if you are on the stock ROM? Anybody have any ideas about this?
The tip that they gave you won't stop it from showing up as a CD-ROM Drive. All that does it prevents that prompt for VZW driver installation. Any ROM based on the stock ROM (Virtuous, Skyraider, Redemption, etc.) will have this CD-ROM drive show up, though most of those ROMs have the driver issue disabled by default.
Switching to an AOSP ROM (like Cyanogen(mod)) will get rid of it.
I tried the HTC tip from within the stock rom and it does show up.
Why is it that this was never removed from any of the roms based on the stock rom?
I have tried Cyanogenmod and it restarts on me at the wierdest times.I can not even be doing anything with it. And poof it will restart. Dunno why either.
Rooted, yes? SwiFTP from market, no USB cable necessary.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yes its rooted. Thats how i got cyanogenmod flashed enuf to know its restarting for no reason. Seeing as my 2yo lost the wall charger adaptor somewhere in the house its the only way I have of charging my phone. its also how I put my audio books and music on my phone. The amount of data moving across is more than what a wireless connection should transfer. Its alot faster with a direct connection. Besides, Doubletwist airsync is not worth the money.

Because they can't. It's part of the framework now.

CM6 or CM7? CM6 is stable. Minor bugs, but reboots shouldn't be noticeably more than stock. On stock, I'd get maybe one reboot per week. On CM6, about the same.
CM7 is considered in an alpha state right now. It's going through nightly builds. Each build adds a feature or two, and then the next build is meant to add in another feature or two, while fixing bugs that came up from the last build's feature introduction. We may not see a release candidate for at least another month due to the fact that their remaining feature list to be implemented is still rather long.
Bottom line is, if you're slamming CM7 for stability, well, that's to be expected. It's not even officially in beta yet. The sad thing is, it's more stable than all but the grade-A ROMs out there today.
No CM7 for me. I live and breath with my phone to use something that is still being developed. I had flashed the following flavors of ROM:
Incredibly Re-Engineered rebooted 4 times in a matter of 8 hours.
Cyanogenmod 6 stable rebooted twice in the same time period.
I flashed nothing else to the phone except the radio which is 2.15.00.11.19. I did the radio b4 I even got around to flashing the rom and never had a single issue with it. Wanted to make sure nothing was gonna go south b4 moving on. Had the radio flashed for over a week and never had to restart my phone once. Im just trying to find something other than the stock rom.
I like the cyanogen rom cause it has the vanilla interface. Thats the first thing I flashed. Only part I didnt like about it was the camera interface. Felt like I had less control over settings. Also there are no ability to do wide screen pics from what I have been able to figure out. i like that ability. Hence the switch to the Reingineered. Was happy with it for the most part. Felt snappier than the stock interface only had a problem hitting the button for the phone cause it was so blasted small on the screen. Kept fat fingering the home and menu buttons below the screen. I want something stable and doesnt lose any of the features I have on the stock rom. I know thats asking alot but one can hope.
UD?
Maybe try UltimateDroid v 2.5?
Lots of features you describe - I run it w/ InvisibleK's #18 kernel, haven't been happier.
Plus, no annoying popups when connecting USB
I do know that Skyraider sense 3.5 has the CD-ROM feature removed. That rom is based off of sense if you like that kind of stuff( I know I do)
So basically all that will show up in device manager (if you have Skyraider rom) will be the mass storage device(s): SD and internal. No cd-rom device detected from phone. If I remember correctly, I think the developer created a script that removed that from his rom.
Ill give it a whirl
