[Q] How can I downgrade from a CM7 nightly build? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.
Well, I love Cyanogenmod, and a few weeks ago, I bought ROM Manager Premium, and decided to try out the nightly builds. I'm already up to Nightly 105 I think. They're not as unstable as I thought they would be.
I searched the CM7 Nightly thread for HTC Vision, and I found out a lot of people are having issues downgrading, mostly when they try to flash a ROM that's on 2.2 like Virtuous. Most of them are saying that the recovery says "Installation Aborted (bad)" or something?
Well, how can I downgrade from 2.3.4 without incurring any of these issues?
I'm just asking this in case I need to downgrade for whatever reason.

Changing to a froyo Rom from a gingerbread Rom is no longer an issue as long as you are using the latest recovery.

Really?
Then why is it that some people are reporting issues about these things?

To be honest I can't see why you would want to go back to 2.2 anyway. We have loads of good gingerbread roms, virtuous included. If you haven't all ready try virtuous unity, It's very stable for a first release.

From what I remember reading in the changelog of RM, that problem was fixed; remember though, it is recommended to do a full wipe when jumping between versions like that.

Cm 6 on inc with slcd

I can flash any Rom but cm 6... I've tried diff recoveries etc... I tried the new clockwork fix koush released and nothing has worked... someone heeeelp!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
It just stays on the white HTC screen after install
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Same thing happened to me with Skyraider 3.3 because I tried to flash a different kernel at the same time. So flash a stock kernel or one of koush's custom ones. Then reflash CM6.
Also you should've wiped data & cache before you flashed any new ROM.
I always wipe etc when flaming a Rom... do you have the slcd?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
i tried that...and same result...im thinking its a framework issue..but i dont know exactly..really frustrating tho!..someone help lol
Some people were running into this issue with ShadowROM and I think the conclusion they came to was that they had different drivers.
is there any way to fix that?
i know i cant be the only person with an SLCD screen running into this issue
If it is indeed a driver issue, you could always build the rom yourself and pull the drivers directly from your phone. That is of course assuming that HTC didn't rename the drivers

That is beyond me to do... lol

CM6 is not built for use with the SLCD version of the Incredible; refer to the full update guide for the Inc in their wiki.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808972
The maker of shadowrom has the SLCD INc now, i'm sure if he gets a fix. He'll share the info with CM sourse
Having the same problem. I'm thinking of attempting to flash the N1 CM6 then flash the IncDoes N1 port update over it. Should fix the problem being that the N1 runs and slcd display and has no issues. I'll post back and let you know the outcome. Before i go through all that though, does anybody know if they added support for the slcd in any of the nightlys?
Its actually a kernel issue...flash the rom then flash an aosp kernel and it will work...where is that n1 port?

I have tried king klick and koush kernels after installing shadow rom and com....dosnt work...shadowrom says its slcd driver issue....have you gotten it to work personally?

I ask in the ShadowROM IRC channel last night and they told me the same thing: SLCD driver issue. Since one of their devs now has an SLC Dinc they are working on fixing the problem...hopefully soon.
Yeah CM6 doesn't play too nice with the SLCD.
I have the SLCD and I am running Virtuous 3.1 with custom kernel and the IncRevo theme.
Couldn't be happier!

Is the procedure: flash rom, gapps, kernel then reboot? Can you share link to the kernel? It is not in the Incredible section at Cyanogen webpage.

I tried a KK kernel supplied by the guys at ShadowROM but that didn't work, so curious to try with the Koush kernel mentioned above.

There is no best ROM, it's subjective. Find one you like the look of and give it a go, don't like it, try another.
I understand m8 but I'm kinda new to all this flashing custom Rom stuff and just want a stable and fast Rom that does everything the stock 2.2 does and more with the g1 only cm was available through Rom manager so just used that where the desire has a lot of options lol

If you want sense you should either go for a SenseHD rom, or a MoDaCo one.
If you want stock Android, I would recommend CyanogenMod!
You know you don't need to download and flash roms solely through ROM Manager?
My advice is just to look at the ROM forum and download the one with the most hits, it's popular for a reason. There are really only two different types of ROM, Sense and the stock Android bundled usually with ADW.Launcher. It's not like WM where there are a plethora of different mods and registry changes, at least not in my limited experience.
I agree just neva been this spoilt for choice

have you updated to Froyo yet? As far as I know, they are just 2.2 Froyo radios. So if you have updated to 2.2 chances are you don't need to update. (Double check with the radio thing, I am an Android newbie as well so I am not 100% sure.)
As for the kernel, as far as I know you don't need to update this either.
For Sense roms I strongly suggest LeeDroid, and Desire HD roms I'd go for RCMixHD (Camera still not working yet, but it should be fixed soon), non Sense roms, go for OpenDesire, Cyanogen or MIUI
Agreed, if you want to try something refreshingly different, try MIUI.
Still ain't a clue which one to try lol
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
well try Leedroid first, then MIUI for non-sense, and see if you are attracted to sense or not

Also try CyanogenMod or OpenDesire to see if you like Stock Android.
There is no harm in trying different roms and switching if you want!
I've used cm 6 before Ive not flashed roms without using Rom manager and leeroid isn't available through that there's only a small section like cm, defrost nd others
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
IT's not too hard
1. Download Leedroid rom from their minisite's dropbox folder.
2. copy file onto your sd card
3. reboot into recovery
Important part!!
DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!
i. select backup/restore
ii. select backup and let it rip
iii. return to menu
4. select flash .zip
5. find the leedroid rom & select it
Cheers for help just one more question once I've flashed a custom Rom if I ever wanted to return to stock how would I go about doing it

[Q] When do you think the first gingerbread roms will be out for the Evo?

Just wondering if anyone knew or had any educated guesses as to when the first android 2.3 based roms would be available. And also how well do you think they will run?
From the lack of nightlies these past few days, I'm willing to bet we'll be seeing Gingerbread on Cyanogen soon.
That would be cool. Im very excited. Jusy started flashing roms a couple days ago. I used Cyanogen but I had trouble finding the market in it to dl apps, otherwise it seemed very fast and stable. Im currently using Myn's rom I hope he puts out a 2.3 version soon.
sent from my evo 4G using the xda app
If you had trouble finding the Market in Cyanogen, you must not have flashed the GAPPS zip file after you flashed the rom. You have to flash both to have market access.
There are already gingerbread roms in the development section. At least one is fairly close to being a daily driver.
I will have to try out the Cyanogen mod again and flash the GAPPS zip file, I didnt know about that, thanks a lot for the help.

[Q] how to root htc desire z in cyanogenmod 10

hello..
i have started using cyanogenmod 10..and my phone is rooted also..
it wass working fine but from last one day..superuser is not working..and when i open any application which requires permision to access..
the message is displayed IT works only with Rooted phones please help..me!!!
Now what to do too root the device??
By installing cm10 realize you are rooted. There is an issue with some builds that broke superuser, go to the thread you downloaded cm10 from and look for the fix or flash a different build/rom that doesn't have this issue

So can you suggest me the best rom of cm or others?
There are many to choose from and best is objective
For now try out mimicry and make a nandroid back up and then try others to find what suits your needs

Try reflashing the ROM and see if that fixes that.

Custom kernel installation issues...

After rooting my new galaxy s3 I'm having some issues with the custom kernel installation. I've tried wiping dalvik and cache after installing rom and then following through with the kernel installation and then repeat the wipe process. Without custom kernel installation the ROM works just fine. The problem I'm having is after kernel installation, the phone will not complete the boot process. It freezes at the "Samsung Galaxy S III" screen and doesn't go any further. Sometimes it makes it to the boot animation for cm10.1. I'm running the 4/10 update for the cm10.1 nightlies. Trying to install the ktoonz kernel for JB 4.2.1 made for the cm 10.1 build. Can't figure out why I'm having issues. Any idea what's wrong?
I believe there are two different types of kernels: those based off of 3.0 and those based on 3.4.
Check the working CM 10.1 kernel. It should start with either 3.0 or 3.4. Make sure the custom kernel you're trying to install is the same. Some kernels haven't been updated to 3.4 yet, and installing the wrong kernel will result in a bootloop.

Thanks a lot. I never would have noticed that. I just upgraded from the Evo 4G this week. Ran it stock since last Saturday. Decided to root today and am still a little new to the jellybean OS.

No worries, this 3.0 vs 3.4 thing just came up about 3 weeks ago and I was just add confused as anyone else about it. Welcome to the d2spr community!

Glad to be a part of it. Its a nice upgrade from the OG evo but I can tell I'll miss some of the qualities of gingerbread.
