After rooting my new galaxy s3 I'm having some issues with the custom kernel installation. I've tried wiping dalvik and cache after installing rom and then following through with the kernel installation and then repeat the wipe process. Without custom kernel installation the ROM works just fine. The problem I'm having is after kernel installation, the phone will not complete the boot process. It freezes at the "Samsung Galaxy S III" screen and doesn't go any further. Sometimes it makes it to the boot animation for cm10.1. I'm running the 4/10 update for the cm10.1 nightlies. Trying to install the ktoonz kernel for JB 4.2.1 made for the cm 10.1 build. Can't figure out why I'm having issues. Any idea what's wrong?
I believe there are two different types of kernels: those based off of 3.0 and those based on 3.4.
Check the working CM 10.1 kernel. It should start with either 3.0 or 3.4. Make sure the custom kernel you're trying to install is the same. Some kernels haven't been updated to 3.4 yet, and installing the wrong kernel will result in a bootloop.

Thanks a lot. I never would have noticed that. I just upgraded from the Evo 4G this week. Ran it stock since last Saturday. Decided to root today and am still a little new to the jellybean OS.

No worries, this 3.0 vs 3.4 thing just came up about 3 weeks ago and I was just add confused as anyone else about it. Welcome to the d2spr community!

Glad to be a part of it. Its a nice upgrade from the OG evo but I can tell I'll miss some of the qualities of gingerbread.

Installer is out till next build. If you flash this on top of cm9 without doing super wipe, you get all the customization settings of aokp. It can be its own rom or an add on for cm9

Huge thanks to Cyanogen and the rest of the CM team for bringing us JB so quickly!
I've bounced between CM9 nightlies and CM10 previews and CM10 is just as stable (if not more so) then CM9. CM10 is still lacking feature completeness especially with regards to the CM enhancements but its getting there.
Now with official nightlies us flash junkies can get our fixes.

I just saw this too and I am downloading it now to flash it. I have been on the CM9 nightlies for about a week and love it. I have tried a few other TW ROM's but I just keep going back to CM9. Thanks again Cyanogen!!
I got an error when flashing with ROM Manager.. Setup wiz FCs and I have to boot into recovery and load up a rom on the sd card. IDK..

Yes. Gapps has to be flashed every time you update to a new release. Cm team and Google came to an agreement that gapps with not be included in any of their releases due to licensing. So they will never be included.
Does anyone else have an issue waking up the device with the physical home button? Sometimes it takes me 3 or 4 times pressing it to wake it up.

Make sure you have the very latest version of cwm. I have seen that offered as a solution in other threads. If that doesn't work try twrp. It can be installed easily from the goo manager app available from the play store. The CM team seems to prefer cwm but in my expierence twrp has been much more stable.

I flashed with TWRP and it installed fine.
I was having a issue with GMail screen flickering but after I wiped my cache and Davlik it fixed that problem.
Is anyone having an issue with Google Now saying there is no internet connection? Fixed - Just had to reinstall ROM
For those who gets status 7 error, or build prop or whatever, it is usually the recovery. You'll need a D2ATT recovery, such as this http://www.datafilehost.com/download-fed9a267.html
Once you have that recovery installed, wipe data/cache and install CM10 + gapps = profit.
I wonder when they will change the boot animation from cm 9 to say cm10??

Doesnt it depend on wether you do a dirty flash or not? I havent flashed gapps since the 8/08 build and everything is working fine so far
Hmm, any news on a final release of cm9? According to cyanogen, the att s III was planned to make it in. I'd rather have a super stable nostalgic cm9 to fall back on if things go array on the bleeding edge (cm10).

Why is the official cm10 thread (in original development) still showing 8/14 build as the latest if there's a 8/18 build on the cm site?

Hello, I've worked with custom roms and such before, but only stable things. I installed the Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly builds, and I've been updating them every day, through TWRP by just flashing the rom, and gapps. A snapshot was just released, and I was wondering if I just do it the same method, or do I have to do the wipe system and all that when you first install a brand new rom. I'm pretty sure I do it the same way, but I just want to make sure there isn't have to be anything else. Better safe than sorry.
Oh my why are you going through all that trouble CyanogenMod has a built in updater all you do is go to about and then CyanogenMod update I believe it will ask you the frequency to check for updates. Make sure you change the options to nightly builds. The phone will notify you when there's an update, after downloading the phone will update itself and all your apps will still be there so you won't need to flash G apps each time.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
The process to do this is called a "dirty flash" because you are flashing over what you already have without wiping again. Usually if its an updated version of the same rom you dont need to rewipe everything
However, if you come upon this in some other rom (you're updating to a new version of it), make sure that the OP's instructions dont mention a full flash, because the nature of some big updates WILL require you to do a full wipe and then flash
But for this specific case, just do what the guy above me said

It is a more stable build designation. Still not an official release. Think of it as a monthly nightly!

Hi!!
I just wanted to ask if I have to be first root on my note II in order to install CyanogenMod, that's right?
can I install CyanogenMod rom on my note II without being root?
Cheers.

Yes you need root and a custom recovery

Check out www.galaxynote2root.com for all the info you need on rooting, flashing and recovery programs I have heard this rom can be a little unstable but have not yet tried it. I use WanamLite rom and love it, very close to stock with more benefits and very stable

Hi,
Just wanted to ask if cyanogenmod is stable enough for my Note II. I am looking for a stable rom... the closest one to the stock because I would not like to get a stone as phone...
Is WanamLite working properly?
Regards and thanks!
I tested both roms for same time, both very stable. However my opnion is that if you want a rom very similar to stock what is the fun? Nothing new to play around.
I'm using now Moon v8, a lot of features, good battery and no issue so far.

Well, sure - I'll have fun installing a rom and all that stuff but I had an iphone and I got tired saving everything before jailbreaking and then install everything.. when a new version was released the cycle again... so I'd like to have a phone with cyanogenmod o whatever mod rom but I don't want to change rom every time... at least I don't want to save my pictures and do a list of apps to download after installing a new rom because last one was unstable.... you know what I mean? I hate Samsung stock.. but works fine.. I think...
Thanks.

Actually they have been some issues with some of the AOSP roms. example I tried to flash Devil on SlimKat a week back and it got stuck on a boot loop. As per the kernel dev it was due to each rom using different initramfs.

We are just well ahead of the curve on 4.4...and devs need time to catch up on all of the extra mods....g
