[Q] Stuck in endless Bootloop - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi There!
I was using MIUI and noticed my battery life draining quickly, Like, charge it to 100, then restart, then it would just restart with a 13% charge. So I reverted to an old backup that I had based off of the stock sense. Still had the battery problem. So I went into recovery and hit "clear storage" and that sent me into an infinite boot loop. Ah!! lol. I can't even get to recovery. It's only flashing the incredible screen, or if I hold down on the volume, it flickers recovery but I cna't actually do anything, because it's flickering on and off.
Any idea how to fix this?
lol
Thanks!!

Hopefully your situation doesn't turn out as badly as mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115276
I would suggest this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12828082#post12828082
But, be cautious.

Thanks for the reply! I took it over the verizon store and they are sending a replacement. They really don't ask a lot of questions with total equipment coverage, lol. I'll bookmark those thread though in case it happens again!

You're sending it on rooted?
Sent from my DROID2 using Tapatalk

I don't really have a choice. What are they going to do, charge me for it?

I was getting bootloops that wouldn't let me past hboot so i couldn't unroot. Took it to a friend that works at a verizon call center. Asked his friend in the refurb dept and he told me if they cant flash their software they'll check for root 100% of the time and charge you. So i did asurion.
I know i know "my friends brothers uncles roommates ex girlfriends dad said.. " but he's always been right before. Not worth a $300 fee

Yeah. $299. I ordered both an asurion replacement and CLNR. Sent the CLNR back without opening and kept the Brand New INC2 from insurance.
Sent from my DROID2 using Tapatalk

DAMN, how much did it cost for the asurion replacement? I have the same problem, I can't even get to hboot, the screen just flashes repeatedly when I try to turn it on.

Do you happen to know how I can get my phone back to non rooted status without being able to boot it(bootloops).

If I did I would still have my Inc1. I loved that phone.
So no I dont. Best bet is to get the Inc 2 and either sell it or wait for the root which should be coming soon

[Q] Stock Inc Frequent Rebooting

Hello everyone,
I have just bought a Droid Incredible off of ebay. The seller said it was in mint condition and that there were no problems at all. When it arrived, it was in perfect condition. However, upon activating the phone, it would not stay on for more than 10 minutes. It just keeps rebooting itself. Also, while it is up, it does not always maintain a signal, and then it usually reboots a couple minutes after that.
It is not rooted, all of it is stock. I have been trying to find an answer for this problem all over the internet but to no avail.
I have read that where this phone is from (North Carolina) there was a lot of people with the same problem as this one.
It is the amoled version, hboot .92 and the baseband is the most recent at 2.15.00.7.28
I have tried factory resets, battery pulls, new battery, reflashing the RUU. I am at a complete loss.
Any help would be great, because I want to love this phone. I am sick of my slow Eris and this was my solution.
Thanks so much in advanced.
After some troubleshooting, I have noticed that it only occurs when the 3G service is turned on.
Any thoughts?
Have you tried a different radio?

I'm not sure what the problem is. FYI, that's not a bootloop. A bootloop is when the phone continuously boots, but never all the way to be usable, such as to the quietly brilliant screen and then starts again.
Also, I would bring it in to Verizon. See if they'll replace it.

I totally agree. If its not rooted and you've had Verizon for a bit they really should help you out. Honestly Verizon has always worked with me and been very helpful.

I tried flashing some of the leaked ones in HBOOT, but they wouldn't load. Can you point me in the direction of where I can find how to properly do this?

I tried, but I bought it from a third party, and they immediately ignored me/ tried to talk me into a thunderbolt. I guess my 10 years of Verizon isn't good enough.

Check over on incredibleforums for the radios. Wont let me post the link :/
Try bumping to an older one or the new leaked one. Not sure if those will screw with an amoled tho, can someone else clarify?

I posted over there too. But actually, I am now starting to rethink that it is the 3G radios. I could've sworn this was a software issue, but it just rebooted on me while I had 3G turned off.
I guess this ebay seller really did lie to me. Well thanks for your help guys, I don't know if I should bother trying to fix this. I guess I should just hope for the seller to respond. Its been almost a week...
Same exact thing is happening to my buddy's phone. I rooted it and put CM7 on it and it was still rebooting.
I had to turn S-ON back on and downgrade back to stock so he can return it to Verizon.

This is exactly what is happening to me right now. It lets me "touch the android to begin," then it reboots. I bought it off ebay and it was an unused cpo. Looks like I'll have to return it. Hey, since I bought it from somebody off ebay, should I worry about turning S-ON and going stock??

You only have to turn S-ON and go stock if you're returning it to Verizon.
http://www.incredibleforum.com/foru...s/5723-how-get-back-complete-stock-s-off.html
That's the guide I used. Works perfectly. Order of operations is:
0) make sure sd card is formatted to FAT32
1) check your radio version
2) downgrade radio if necessary
3) flash s-on
4) install RRU through HBOOT

I can't even successfully root/s-off the phone. It reboots while its being rooted (and not the reboots that are supposed to occur) and it fails.
I have tried everything. I used to be adamant that it was a software issue, but after yesterday, I am beginning to think that it might just be hardware.
Anyone have any experience with getting their money back from ebay/paypal?
But seriously guys, I can't thank you enough for all of your ideas and help. I really appreciate it. Hopefully I can join you guys with the Droid Incredible one day.
PayPal is pretty good about protecting the buyer, as long as it hasn't been too long since the transaction. I would contact the seller and inform him of the problem, then contact PayPal and explain the situation.

I've contacted the seller the day I received it, asking for a refund. I then also contacted the seller two days later. A day after that, still not hearing anything, I opened an eBay case. Now eBay tells me I must wait until the 6th to escalate the case any further.
This is such a hassle, I just want my money back. Part of me wants to just get a HTC Flyer and just tether my Eris to it.

My inc did the same thing. After about ten tries I got it to root (mine too rebooted during the process before it was supposed to). But no rom, kernal, or anything else stopped the reboots. My seller said to return it for a full refund.
Ebay is pretty good at taking care of you. Last year I bought a phone and the seller bailed on me. About a week after I opened a case I had a full refund in my paypal account. Good luck!

Screen going out so soon?

I think my screen may be going out on my DINC2. Every once in a while the screen with to completely black for a split second then return to normal. Any idea what may cause this? I have tinkered with the brightness settings already. Also I am unrooted, s on, GB.

I have only had my DINC2 a short time 2-3 weeks. It doesn't do it often though. Should I go to a Verizon store and get it replaced now or wait and see if it gets worse before I take it in? I would imagine that a rep would like to see the issue with the screen, but like I said it doesn't happen very often.

This would be a defect as it should not be happening. The first month is the best time to get stuff like this taken care of because it's easier to get it done at a store. I don't know how returns work now, but they use to require doing it over the phone, which means a longer wait to get it replaced. Plus, waiting to see if it gets worse may result in it just dying one day.
True ill go to a VZW store today after work.
Sent from my DINC2 in Yuma, AZ
I went to VZW and they are Becker to see if any updates were available and they applied the minor update for GB that was recently released and said if the problem persists to come back. That was yesterday. The screen has only done it once so i think I'm going to go back to VZW and see what else they can do.

This. Even if it does it once, because this is a problem with a hardware connection, not software.

Leaving My INC2

So the charging port on my INC2 finally went yesterday and I am now relying on the extra batteries they gave me when I had the phone replaced for various other issues to get me through until 3 PM tomorrow (16 hours). I called Verizon and they told me they'd send out a new INC 2, however they are no longer in stock, so they are sending me a FREE Incredible 4G, and LETTING ME KEEP MY UNLIMITED DATA. So guys, if you are looking for a 4g phone and trying to keep your unlimited data, now is the time to have a phone issue. After about an hour of describing the problem with my phone and all the things I had tried to fix it (different charging cords, different batteries, different outlets, etc.) they offered me the new phone and told me they wouldn't put me through the hassle of doing all the resets.
I have a few questions for you guys before I leave. 1) Do I have to return to stock before I return the phone and if so, does anyone have a link to (in their opinion) the easiest set of instructions to return to full stock, S-ON and unrooted? 2) I, for some reason, have no data access, nor do I have Wi-Fi (I'm on a campus with an oddly protected Wi-Fi, would be a lot of trouble to set it up), so could somebody upload the .apk for an app that I can use to backup and restore my text messages and picture messages? Most only do text messages, but I'd like to backup both, so if you know of any off the top of your head, either let me know and I'll hunt, or upload them if they're easily available to you. 3) I'd like to thank all of the devs that made this phone usable over the past year or two. I've been a lurker for the most part, but love the work you guys do and hope you guys keep it up with whatever phone you move on to.
Just return the phone to stock no need to go back to s-on, I've heard some people talking about sending their phones back in and they'll take it as long as it's running stock firmware

Power button broke.. insurance help!

Okay so I was on the couch watching the thunder game the other night and my phone just started boot looping... i thought something was wrong with the rom "chemistry v6" so I tried going into recovery.. well itd start up for a second and I couldnt select anything fast enough before it would reboot. Then I noticed if i kept clicking the power button itd stay booted for awhile.. then kick off... well I pulled the power button off... now the phone stays booted... soon as I put power button back in the boot loop starts.... So im guessing I should take it back to sprint.. I pay the 10$ insurance fee every month... But im rooted and the flash counter... what should I do before taking it up there! thanks!
Not a damn thing, take it up there and act stupid.

Good advice here. If the tech wants to be a **** he will quickly see your rooted apps (SU, TB, etc.) and deny your insurance coverage while also noting your account with the fact that you have voided the warrenty as well as the terms of your insurance. Put it back to stock and tell them to fix it! Acting dumb helps if they start asking questions so not bad advice there either.

Hard Bricked My SIII

I hard bricked my SIII the other day and the phone us completely dead. When I plug it into a computer I hear the connection sound and the disconnection sound and when my battery is taken out the LED lights up red and goes away in about a minute. Can't get into recovery or download mode. I called Samsung and they said they will flash it to stock for free. My phone was rooted. Does anyone know if they will be able to find out if my phone was rooted considering the thing is completely dead?

If you cannot get into any mode they will more than likely just jtag it into download and flash a factory image.
To answer your question, no they wont. I did the same thing and TEP with Sprint and got a brand new phone in box the next day. No charge to me and they never came back even though it was rooted.

Thanks guys!! The SIII is a truly awesome phone and I am actually going crazy because after using that phone for so long, every other phone just sucks and doesn't compare to that of the SIII. Yeah, it is quicker to TEP the phone and get a new one the next day, but it's also much more expensive ($150 vs. $60). Which one is "better" really depends on your situation. If you have the money and can't wait for a repair (due to work, family, etc), the $150 deductible (and one-day turnaround) is a great option. If money is tight (as it is for a lot of us), the 10 days is much more palatable than the extra $90.
To each his own, I say.
