[Q] can i get a replacement? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey, i have a mytouch slide bought back in september of 2010, my camera has become a fuzzy mess and wont focus over night and my keyboard has 5 keys not lighting up, i was wondering of t-mobile will send me a replacement or this is not enough problems for a new one.. thanks

Try a store first if it's nearby, or you'll have to pay for the shipping of the replacement through the mail. But you should absolutely be eligible to have it replaced for free, if it isn't water damage and stuff like that.

What if you run on AT&T?
Would T-mobile still replace my phone? It is technically a T-mobile product...

Its expensive to replace whole phone...just the screen
Your only way to get a part would be to buy a broken slide off ebay (with a working screen). Considering the device is so new and all the units are still in warranty you are not likely to find that.
Ya no warranty cuz it is cracked
Right now, iaren't you wishing you purchased the couple dollar a month insurance?

Gone through too many phones, can't have insurance....

[Q]MyTouch 3G Slide - Fixing a Cracked Screen

My phone fell out of my pocket and fell about 5 to 6 feet onto concrete spider webbing my screen...
My question is: is it possible to fix myself?
Other question: I have insurance, but would I be able to upgrade to the MyTouch 4G with the insurance claim and paying the difference of 50$ of the phones cost?

You won't be able to upgrade, the insurance is through Asurion, not T-Mobile, you will get either a refurbed or new one from them. I used them for a Blackberry you get the replacement within a day, you keep everything except the actual phone.

Actually you can get a different phone. The phone just has to be within the same or a lower class of phone, which is determined by price mainly if I remember correctly. There's a chart that spells it all out. Like if I had a vibrant with insurance, and it broke, I would be able to get a mt4g or g2 since they are the same class phone.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
I didn't know that but why would you want a lower class phone? I know I wouldn't cause down from the Slide is not a pretty sight.

What about me being able to replace the glass myself is that possible?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
You could certainly try it yourself, but if you screw it up you'd be out a phone. And it depends on what's wrong, if it's just the digitizer, you can buy one of those on eBay pretty cheaply. But the LCD doesn't have a replacement on the market right now, I know because I have a phone with a broken LCD. The digitizer is the top layer which relays touch, the LCD lies underneath and projects the display.

[Q] G2 Hinge Replacement

Hey guys! Just a quick question for you guys tat have had your G2 replaced by T-mobile because of the loose hinge. I've had my G2 since the very beginning and have never had any problems but recently the hinge has really become a lot looser. If I call T-mobile do they just replace it? Do I need to go by the store and prove it to them also? Thanks for any help in advance
I think you can send it in to HTC, but idk if the TMO warranty covers it... also, there is no promise that the new one will have a good hinge.
sorry, thought i was in another thread. ignore this.
if you have t-mo insurance, they'll send you as many as you want for free shipping.
Tmobile haas put out a statement saying the hinge is not and never was defective. That's just how it is. Unless you use your phone upside down, this should not be an issue.

Warranty exchange process?

Ok so tmobile was called and a warranty exchange will be done. The whole phone including the battery cover and all that were taken to ups to ship to wherever it needs to be. This is much different from when I had my mytouch slide warranty exchange. I used to get the new/refurbished phone first and then have the messed up one shipped back later (back cover of the messed up phone was transfered to the new/refurbished one). Why is it not the same anymore? Is it because its a white galaxy s2? Or has tmobile changed the warranty exchange process?

Only time I've done a warranty exchange was on my Sensation back in August. T-Mobile shipped me the replacement phone and I shipped them mine in that same packaging. Not sure if they have changed things. You may want to call them and ask to make sure. Unless you are doing the warranty through Samsung. They would require you to send in your phone.
Pretty much how it was done with the mytouch slide I'm using now. Maybe its a different process since I've only had the galaxy s2 for 3 days?

That's weird when I bought my g2x I did an exchange like the next day because of reboot issues and I did it like u said they send replacement then u send faulty device I would call and check

Maybe because the white galaxy s2 is limited? When I got the phone it had to be back ordered and it took a whole week to get in stock. Its probably effecting the way warranty exchange works on this phone. I can't contact tmobile myself because my dad is the one who did the warranty exchange for me. I asked him why the exchange is being done that way and according to him, he said tmobile asked him to ship the phone then when they get it, ill get the replacement and I know that's not how it worked when I had other tmobile smartphones exchanged.

If you've only had the phone for 3 days, why not take it back to where you bought it from and exchange it?

It was purchased online, so that was really the only way to do it. It is a warranty exchange (just seems to be a different way than usual), so he did not mess up, I know that for sure cuz I've had phones screw up many times in the past and they were successfully replaced. I'm gonna wait for the replacement to get here hoping it doesn't take too long.
Edit: maybe it wasn't a warranty exchange being done? Could probably be somethin different since it was only 3 days old, who knows haha, whatever I put up here is all I was told.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using Tapatalk
If the phone is only 3 days old, you aren't doing a warranty exchange. You are swapping the phone via the return period. Especially if they had you send the back cover and battery back...warranty exchange never includes the back cover (sometimes the battery ).
So the up side is that you'll get a brand new phone back. Downside is that you have to send yours first, and wait for one to be sent back after.
Thanks! That's most likely what's being done
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using Tapatalk
This is why I always just buy phones in the store. During the return period you just take it in and swap it out on the spot.

The white Galaxy S II isn't offered in stores...
Stores also have 50 dollar restocking fees if they don't find anything wrong with the phone that isn't a known issue or if you try to get a different color or device.

diazjohn is right. your doing a return and getting another new white one... a much better way than them sending you a refurb....

Stock of refurbished ones. When you keep your old back cover, etc, it's a refurbished one that they've put into a new box [labeled or unlabeled]. If it's a REALLY new phone, then they often don't have very many if any refurbished ones in stock so they send out a new one. and eventually.. someone gets yours without a back cover

What store did you go to?
Corporate and Branded Third Party Retailers do not carry the white one.
Technically, the small independent retailers are in charge of buying their own stock, so they could carry it...and I'm not sure of National Retailers/Big Box...
Did you buy the white one or see it displayed on the floor?

[Q] Evo screen replacement question

I love my EVO 4G, but recently it has started to detect an occasional phantom touch in the top of the screen (maybe 2/5 the way down from the top, in a band the size/position of the volume down button). When I run Touch Test (by moonblink) I can clearly see a second, occasionally third, point of contact active in that zone. Needless to say, this is impacting my ability to use the device.
Do I need a new screen digitizer (like this) or do I need some other part. The device is from the original launch, so its well past warranty consideration.
i have used those to replace broken screens and they worked fine.
I'm looking for a reliable vendor to buy a digitizer also. I've been scouring Amazon and the reviews seems kind of mixed.
That makes two of us, idk if I have to replace both or just the screen?
I use to work for Sprint as a technician and a sales rep. If u have the t.e.p. insurance you can have them get you a refurbished phone or replace the screen. You must goto a sprint store with repair center. Only down fall is you might get a phone that's not rooted or they will tell you no. But since its not a physical damage, insurance should cover it. Worth a shot.

I actually ordered three off of Amazon last Thursday. They arrived Monday and I installed one on my phone today. Tested the screen for dead spots and everything seems ok so far. It to me about 2 hours bcuz I was being extra careful. I have to do my daughters also and I can probably do it in under an hour.
