Keep MetroPCS Data Settings? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to upgrade to the latest roms that have EC05 but in doing so, it will screw up my Metro PCS settings, rendering all my Epic's features useless. Anyone else on the same boat?

Sorry on a boat to no where with my Sprint Epic

Bumping this thread.

What settings specifically are you concerned about?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

The Programming Settings that keep My Epic 4G working with Metro PCS.

I guess he is concerned about data and mms for starters.

I'm definitely on the same boat. I got my phone fully flashed with web and mms working but my build number is Samsung Eclair.DG27! Android 2.1-update1 smh.

Curious about this as well

nice to hear I'm not the only one now, too bad nobody has any suggestions..

All my data settings stay the same after flashing even with odin

But are you on an Epic that was custom rom flashed with Metro PCS?

No im not on metro but its the same concept..... I have major data changes and I've used odin many times and flashed many roms and none of those changes mentioned back to default.... Idk what metro data settings would have to do with going back to default......

Well, the "default" settings are programmed to be a SPRINT phone, with Sprint service. MetroPCS is a prepaid service. The Epic 4G was never meant to work with Metro.. so it had to of course firstly have the ESN# on their systems, and from there, it had to be programmed to work like their phone, otherwise, you won't even get a dial-tone. Its not mission impossible, but an Odin doest keep its Metro Settings, I've Odin'd, upgraded to Froyo, and then Nandroid Restored back to my Custom Rom with Metro Service.

Revival of the past
I know I'm ressurrecting an old thread, but I'd like all users of the Epic Community who are on a custom MetroPCS rom to know the following.
Once you go out of the custom rom you paid for, you sacrifice 3g service, internet/mms.
So unless you're roaming like me, i dont reccommend it. Also, as the duce said, your data programmed settings stay retained.
For the most part, if with metropcs, talk and text.
Make sure you Nand Backup your MetroPCS rom and keep that rom backed up and save somewhere besides your phone if you want to go around experimenting on other roms.
As for re-programming your basic talk/text, you'll need to unlock your epic if not unlocked, then cdma or qpst into your device, and use the lastest evdo metro prl you find and flash that.
after that you'll also need to get on the phone with MetroPCS activation support and have them provide you with the MSID (Min) number unless you already know it, so you can enter that in #000000# (or ##MSL#) terminal mode, and it'll ask for your phone number, hit enter, then on MSID enter the appropriate MIN. and there you go, talk/text will be restored in case you really need to reprogram it.

The only place I knew of was in Dallas, TX. They charge 75 bucks, If only I wasn't foolish enough to delete my rom, I could of distributed it on the XDA forums. =(
They have the Ad on craigslist, I do believe they let you ship the phone to them, but I'm not sure, that'd be at their discretion if they do that. I had found it via craigslist, so try searching there under "flash metropcs" call up those ads, and see if they can properly flash an up to date rom with everything working.

Keep MetroPCS Data Settings? Of course its possible
Man, how much are they paying you to spout this crap? With the correct settings you can get all 3g, internet, mms, google play store and all features (except maybe 4g depending on the provider you switch from). You come pretty close to trolling when you tow the company line like that and tell users that they can't do something when they can. I'd be careful about spreading misinformation if I were you. I've modded several phones on metropcs and gotten great results.

[Q] roam hack

Hey, I have a few questions.
1) if someone were to use the roam hack what does it do exactly?
2) can you go on another network like Verizon?
3) is it a bad idea to do something like this?
I'm just curious, and would also like to try roaming on Verizon because I feel they'd give better speed where I live. Any help is much appreciated..
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
there is a roam hack that forces roaming instead of bouncing back and forth.
it is a new phone.apk file.
i THINK it is Calkulin who has it.
check his ROM thread in the development section and ask him for it.
his ROM has it built in i believe.
i will say this is fooked my phone and i had to restore from a NAND backup, but he fixed it and got it working. but it is still flakey somewhat last i tried it.
You don't get unlimited stuff when roaming, right?

Evo Boost Mobile CustomRom Flash

Quick question. I have a evo 4g on boost mobile. Everything works and its also rooted. This was how i purchased the phone. If i decide to flash a custom rom, is it going to bump my current boost settings back to sprint? Or is that only if i update the PRL or the radio? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Sent from my Htc Evo using XDA App
I am not sure, but you can always nandroid the rom ( make a backup) and then restore , but a new rom does not change PRL or RADIO
I actually already did the backup. But that was the answer i was looking for. As long as those arent touched i should be okay.

would be interested to know how it turned out. I looking to get my EVO flashed to Boost Mobile and have questions if you are willing to answer.

To be on the safe side, get APN Backup and Restore, it is free from the market. This will save your APN (access point network), just in case there are any config parameters (like proxy settings) that are needed in boost. The poster above was right though, flashing the device with a new rom will not change your Radio, your PRL, or any of your PST programming parameters.
Good luck.
did u ever try flashing a custom rom? if so what happen?

You can flash a custom rom to your EVO, it wont change any of the parameters already in the phone. On the other hand, if you are able to "update profile" from your EVO there is a slight chance that it will affect that. SLIGHT chance. I have flashed Fresh EVO and Sprint Lovers without a problem the only issue I'm having is not being able to update profile even with Stock rom 2.2. I keep getting error "1012". Aside from that everything works great. Like everyone has said, always make a backup, you can never be to careful.
Cheers and happy flashing.

Sorry guys totally forgot about this thread! I'm on my second EVO and I've flashed SENSE and ASOP roms and have updated everything from the RADIO to the NV, PRI and such. Nothing gets changed with SENSE roms, however being that ASOP roms don't have a EPST, MMS is a hit or miss. Most of the time miss.
A fix for this is to flash a ASOP rom, nandroid backup, flash a SENSE rom and configure EPST and restore the ASOP backup.

It will work, just you will have to reset your mms. Dail ##DATA# and hit edit.

bought a used EVO on Ebay which has been flashed to boost and activated for me by the seller. Everything went perfect I rooted and flashed cyanogenmod as soon as I got home from the Post Office, lol. I would also like to mention that calling with/without google voice works perfect using the native android google voice app. The only thing I am still struggling with is conditional call forwarding and using Google Voice voicemail as the service for when people call my actual cell number. It still works as the voicemail provider when they call my google voice number. Overall I am very happy with Boost and the EVO. $50 unlimited with shrinkage is awesome. And when they say $50 they mean $50. As in 50 dollars and zer0 cents, thats right, no TAX!!!
Bostmobile Rom
Cyanogen 7 (nighties) works like a charm on boost for the EVO.
I wanted to use a Rooted Stock Rom for a change, I've been using Cyanogen 7 nighties for about 8 months with lil to non issues.....GPS locks for navigation, mms works, everything works just fine...I just want to try something new...like the new stock, it looks nice...love the clock/weather gatget...I want to try it out, but I lash the latest Rooted Stock Rom it messes up my mms and I cant get the ##3282# to change the MMS URL. Whats up with that? did the dialer code for DATA change in 2.3.5? or am I doing something wrong?

Using Cyanogen is a bit tricky since it doesn't support those codes. I've heard you had to backup the rom you were using, flash the new rom and recover the backup. That wouldn't over write anything, but would put back your settings you used in the previous rom.
How do I backup all of my flashed Boost mobile settings?
You folks seem to be a very knowledgable crowd, perhaps you can help me with this.
I just purchased an Evo 3d and had it flashed over to boost at my local boost store. Upon picking it up from them he went over a few things, most of which made perfect sense like not updating certain things because it will set me back to sprint but the one thing that did not is he said no hard resets. Problem being most if not every custom rom either automatically or advise you to do a factory reset from custom recovery. How am I supposed to flash my precious cyanogenmod with that hanging over my head lol? So I've been trying to learn how to flash using cdma workshop and qpst so that I can copy/backup all of the already flashed Boost info so that if things go wrong Im good. Also I hear some of the non-SENS based roms require little workarounds to keep data and mms going which also would probably require a copy of the Boost flash info. Things like the AAA shared secret and HA secret etc.
Any insight to this problem would be most appreciated!

Unless they use the Phone EFS Clear option in Odin.
ShinyDude100 goes into a little detail about that option's use in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31140050&postcount=609
Thanks Nikon for acknowledging that, OP, cwm backup your MetroPCS rom, then have fun messing with your phone but don't lose that backup. There are fixes in mms and etc on other phones, a new one may have to be made to get all of your features working correctly. YMMV on metro's 3g working for you, as some cities claim 3g to be blocked in certain cities on flashed phones, I will dig deep into that issue eventually and post a guide sometime on regaining metro's 3g in cities who got blocked. I have a hunch on what could be blocked. Cheers and have fun.

Question... why would you want to use the Phone EFS Clear option in Odin if you want to keep it on the same carrier. People should do their homework on Odin before using. And if anything CDMA Workshop. Connect port read change msn, meid, username, password then write 000000 to unlock. Go on ur epic and input in dialer *#*#8778#*#* or ##8778# go to edit enter 000000 then change everything from there that simple. Save then reboot. Call carrier and say u want to activate or just dial *228 or *#2284 whichever u find better. And there u go

Nexus S 4g flashed to MetroPCS, but I cant activate
I bought a Nexus s 4g that had been previously flashed to Metro PCS. The person just removed their Metro account 5 days ago. When I called 611, it went to the Metro recording..but I tried to call to activate, and they said go to the corporate store to have it unlocked. So I went to the store, and the guy tried to activate it, and put a couple codes and was shaking his head. His advice, " Take this to a store that does flashing and have them do some programming so it can be activated." Do I have to have it re flashed? I sure hope not. Please help!
You should ask in the Nexus S forum.

Guide to Flash to Straight talk using cdma

I have hacked several phones thanks to the help of this group so I wanted to return the favor. I spent about 6 hours doing this and have success (phone, text, and 3g web even using OTA programming with no MEID cloning.).
The first thing you need is to make sure your phone is stock. If your phone is modded get the stock rom from here
http://vivow.pcharpoon.com/roms.html#stock
I have tested this on a rooted phone using the GB rom above. With the latest radio from here
http://vivow.pcharpoon.com/radios.html
Next follow what shef692003 says about using CDMA workshop.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067036&highlight=spc&page=4
Make sure to get your drivers downloaded first. You will have to hunt for cdma workshop yourself.
We need to change the spc code to 000000 you can also change the NAM number to your phone number but this doesn't seem to effect anything. after rebooting your phone dial the straight talk OTA program number *22890.
I will update after testing with AOPK 4.2 rom later. Thank all you guys for the help you have given.
Update after replacing stock rom with jelly bean AOKP
After running all day on AOKP using straight talk and all is well. Cell coverage is the same if not a little better than my wife's stock straight talk phone. Data was 3g and all the phone's features have worked "out of box" so to speak. I hope this helps someone else if they want to flash their Dinc 2 over to straight talk.

EDIT: Also, when I try to call *22809 it tells me "we are unable to program your phone"

Sorry it took so long to get a reply back. My kid fell through some sheet rock and broke his arm so I've been busier than usual.
Are you using the stock rom from Verizon?
I didn't touch the APN settings the only other thing I did was to change the NAM value to my phone number. After doing those two things I was able to complete OTA programming. I had also updated the radio but I think that was after I had finished the OTA programming. I'll check my APN settings when I get a chance, but those where "stock" so to speak.
I want to do this for my brother, he is currently on Verizon. I am assuming that he has to disconnect service from Verizon first then activate Straight Talk?

Not True. You can bring SOME CDMA phone to ST but the incredible 2 is NOT one of them! If you try to activate it using their BYOP program they will take you MEID and after 10 or so minutes tell you that the phone is not compatible with their system. I know I tried. The reason I bought my incredible 2 was for the BYOP program.
Sorry for not replying
I never got an email showing their was a request for info on this thread. This method won't work for sprint phones ,I think, because it uses verizon CDMA settings. It does work as this is how I got my phone on the ST network.

Please pardon me if this sounds dumb, but I am a newbie... I too have a Sprint Note 2. It used to be flashed to boost mobile. Now it's been flashed back to stock sprint ROM using file links and instructions right here in these forums. From what I gather, you want to go back to sprint? It's really simple. You do have the original MEID & Id ETC. right? Should be behind the battery when you remove it. I have successfully got my phone back to STOCK Sprint. It's really easy to do using TWRP and stock Sprint ROM files and DFS (there are others)...But these were the ones (programs) I used.. Read and read some more. Be patient (easier said than done..lol) you'll get it...It CAN be done...

I hope so. lol. The goofball that had it before me flashed it to ntelos and left it on the account not used, but still attached. Actually made it difficult to sell as a ntelos phone, but I have some time today to play around with it today. I was told by sprint it needs a flash back to sprint. Sad part I have no fricken clue who flashed it to begin with it that way
Well first check the sticker underneath the battery. Have you verified it can be brought back tp sprint? If its ok on sprints end using the numbers on the back then you can move further. Let us know so we can direct you.

Everything is correct. It can be activated on sprint. Ive already checked that multiple times
Ok well now you need to write the info from the sticker to the phone. You can use cdma workshop or dfs. Either program will work. You can also look at guides made for boost mobile. You can follow the guide. Instead of a donor phone you use the sticker info. Instead of changing your mmsc to boost you would change it to sprints. Either way get your msl first just in case. Use msl reader from the playstore. If it cannot read it push home. Then go to your dialer and push in ##3282# it will ahow a screen saying view or edit. Push edit. Enter a random 6 digit code. It doesnt matter what it is. It will give an error. Push home and hold it until recent tasks come up. Go to msl reader again and read the code again. It should give it to you this time.

Msl is "000000" I tried some today with no luck. Everything failed in odin. Now i'm searching again, because its either odin mode or "firmware encountered a issue. Recovery from kies and try again. But it doesnt connect to kies. Actually wount connect even before I got started.
Got the phone back on. Still on Ntelos, so now I'm back to searching on how to remove this carriers flash. Nothing I've tried has worked
Hey guys I've got a similar problem. I got a note 2 and I'm wanting to flash it to boost but I haven't been able to read the HA/AAA keys. I did a reset ##786# to remove the old sprint account and downgraded to the LJC radio but I still get the access denied error for Nv_read on 466 and 1192. Also if I call 611 I get Ntelos wireless customer service and I'm kinda lost on what to do.
I didnt feed anyone lies. I have seen it done before. On my last phone. The epic touch 4g. If it doesnt work on this phone then thats too bad. I have never needed to flash a phone to another carrier.

In all fairness I have flashed a E4GT to an MVNO and back.
Google Chris41g's Epic to Boost steps. Follow the steps in there to change back your MEID only.
Flash a stock rooted restore - in this case I'll suggest MC2 rooted restore. This sets proper CSC info.
Turn phone on and ##72786#. Let HFA go through its steps.
LTE I can't say anything on since E4GT didn't have it.
The reason I did this way is because HFA will pull the HA/AAA keys and set the profile back on its own.
You only have to do it manually when flashing to MVNO because you can't use HFA.
Sorry but that's all the details I can mention on this thread - PM with any additional questions.
