Help! Bricked phone! - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I tried installing the new frozen rom and it wasnt booting after like 15 minutes. So I just pulled the battery and did a nandroid backup from my stock rom because I just rooted yesterday. But after the nandroid the rom just goes back into recovery every time i restart it. Even after a battery pull it does the same thing.
Please help!

when all else fails, odin back to stock.

Did you have an EXT4 nandroid backup as well?

Sponged...not bricked. You cannot restore a full RFS nandroid on an EXT4 file system. You should use Titanium to back up apps and data. You can use the nandroid to restore data only in the advanced section. You can also try restoring the nand of beforeExt4 or whatever it is called.

Maybe this could help you restore your phone back to its old glory.

What version of Clockwork is it from? Before 3.0.2.5 the kernel was not backed up so you have the corrupt kernel still after the restore. Restore your nandroid and flash another kernel before booting like Genocide and see if that helps.

What is with everyone saying there phone is bricked? A brick means no recovery and no download mode. Use odin or heimdall to flash a tar. Or try to flash something else from recovery

In a boot loop. Am I screwed?

I've been running Baked Snack for a while now. Recently my phone started shutting off for no apparent reason. Long story short, I have a nandroid backup stored. I made it with RA recovery. I decided to try some other ROM's and I had to flash Clockwork Recovery to add them through CM. When another one started shutting down on me, I decided to go back to my nandroid. Problem is it won't read it on Clockwork. It's there, but it won't restore. I can't get the phone to stay on for more than a second or two without rebooting right now so I can't get RA recovery back on the phone. I can get to recovery but I can't get Clockwork to read my nandroid backup that I made with RA recovery.
Is there anything I can do?
just flash a new rom and call it a day
use fast boot,]change back to RA recove, and flash NAND back.
But it its not a horrible loss to just flash another rom. May I suggest Frost rom, as someone who came from BS to Frost, I think you may enjoy it. I base that off of nothing but those two factors.
you do realize this is not where you ask questions right?

Just flash myn's 2.2 rls3, it will fix your bootloops, and if you don't have 4g in your area it will enable it.
n00b giving advice (probably worthless...)

I imagine the easiest thing to do would be to use an RUU to reflash the whole thing. Then you can put RA Recovery back on and use your Nandroid to restore your system. I've already had to do that once, but I'm a total Android n00b.
mmmmm bootloops, yummy!
do a wipe/factory reset in clockwork, that will fix ur phone
its fixed my bootloops more than I feel comfortable admitting

If you really want to go back to your old backup, then here's the easy way to get your RA back.... rename this to PC36IMG.zip and place it on the root of your SD Card and boot into bootloader mode.
AmonRa Recovery via PC36IMG.zip

Guys I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for this. I didn't know.
I can't flash a new ROM. I can't get the phone to stay on long enough to do anything with it. I've tried wiping everything. I actually flashed the only ROM on my sdcard - Baked 1.8. It boots and stays on for a second and then crashes again. How to I get another ROM on my SD card. The only place I can get the phone to stay on is in recovery.
Alright, after letting it sit off for about an hour I can get it to stay on long enough to do work.
Sorry for posting in wrong place. Mods please move or remove.
Oh boy... still shutting down. I think my phone is fkd.
I was able to - after flashing BS 1.8 and clean wipe - download and install CM. I'm going to let the phone sit another hour and then hope to get on long enough to flash a new ROM. I don't have much hope though. The one I originally was switching to was Cyan 6.0 and it was shutting down a second after booting. I think it's my phone.

Trying to restore a backup with clockwork mod recovery

hello I just replaced a broken EVO and now that it is rooted I am trying to restore my old backup from my previous evo.. I am having a problem though
I go through all the normal process to restore a backup and everything works fine the super user permission pops up and the phone reboots but instead of rebooting directly into the reboot session it just boots me into the clockwork mod recovery recovery menu.. when i select the folder the recovery files are located in it shows up blank.. what am I doing wrong here? In the past when I selected to restore a backup from inside the os it just rebooted and started restoring automatically.. I feel like an extra step has now been added and I dont know what it is?
I should also not that while I do not know if it is related or not when I try to restore the backup from the nandroid section of the recovery menu it hangs on checking md5 sums and then says error while flashing boot image!
mind you this is on 2 separate backups I created in the past with clockwork mod recovery
It's probably not a good idea to use an old nandroid backup on a new phone. Think of how kernels run well on some EVO phones and not others. Your current phone might even be one of the EVOs with new hardware.
Sent from my HTC EVO using XDA app
ok but can I still get all my apps and data back?
it would be terrible to lose all of that
and now to make matters even worse my phone is stuck on an endless loop on clockwork mod recovery I every time I select reboot system now instead of it booting into the stock rooted rom it just reloads the clockwork mod recovery menu.. what gives?
yeah, not good to load a backup from a different phone. This has been documented as happening. Just reflash whatever rom you want then radios then kernel. Sorry but if you didn't use a backup prog I thinkyou will have to manually restore apps. You may want to try titanium backup, solves the problem, use it and follow the backup instructions in Titanium backup wiki on their web site and you should be good to go next time.
Did you try a battery pull and reboot?

Nandroid backups are phone specific, you can't move them from phone to phone. You probably hosed your RSA keys which means your 4g may be broke. If I were you I would try to flash a stock rom and then reroot if needed. If that gets you out of the bootloop your in. You maybe visiting a Sprint store for a replacement phone again.
guys I could really use some help here please!
I went back to the stock rooted rom today.. all day I was adding apps making changes restarting the phone no problems.. I finally get my phone set up how I like it so I decided it was a great time to make a backup so I open clockwork mod recovery and select backup it gives me the superuser permissions prompt and restarts.. instead of starting the backup automatically it sends me directly to the clockwork mod recovery menu and now it will not load the phone's OS at all just reboot after reboot into clockwork mod recovery this is a 1 day old evo what is going on here!!??

Hey that exact thing happened to me. it happened the first time i ever loaded anything on my phone. I freaked out. Turned out the Clockword mod recovery I had must have had something wrong. I went back into the part where you load the CWM from the computer. My phone is different than yours so I cant be sure but you go into bootloader by pressing stuff, its where the logo stays there the whole time. then you flash the CWM again. and then reload the operating system and stuff. should work but just redo the CWM again. Hope it works out for you. Hope thats what it is for you too.

Stuck at Checking MD5 Sums

I'm still some what newby, as much as I don't like to admit it..
I'm not sure what I've done wrong.. I went to restore and clicked on the last file I backed up.. Yet, I'm stuck at checking md5 sums. How long does this usually take? I'm at about 15 minutes of waiting. Is this normal?
It should normally go pretty quickly. Did you edit anything in your backup before you tried to restore it?
Sent from my phone with the geebees
Nope, I didn't change anything.
I've tried from both Clockwork and from Rom Manager. No luck either way.

I didn't wipe anything. I'm assuming that's where I messed up?
I've been following http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...nandroid-backup-and-clockworkmod-rom-manager/
If that gives you an idea what's I've been doing.
Try that, than report back. use Amo-Ra.

It's telling me before I back up I have to have ClockworkMod Recovery installed before continuing.
On the very top of rom manager, flash ClockworkMod Recovery , than do the amo-ra.
Let me ask this. Do I even need to flash to my stock rom before I flash to a new rom? Currently I'm on Fresh. I want to flash to Vael. Is it required to restore?
No. just make sure to do a nandroid back with Amo-ra and make sure to back up your Wimax image with it. Before flashing do at least wipe everything twice. Data, cach, dalvic.

ndroid backup help!!

hey guys
need help..i rooted my desire using unrevoked3
and then did ndroid backup( dont know wat to do now) screen is not responding and phone is not even rebooting!!!
right now stuck..
help me guys...
...
hi,
sorry for your problem with that.
i flashed my handy ´bout 40 times and never had issues with nandroid not responding.
how ever, ... i fi understand right, the nandroid backup is a "backup" which means it reads the data out of the phones nand and stores it on the micro Sdhc card.
i think that it should be no problem to remove the battery and put it right back in the phone. but i am not 100% sure if any damage on the phone could happen if you interrupt the nandroid backup. maybe lost of data of the sd card could occur.
Hope that you ll get a better answer soon from another member
Good Luck
Boot into recovery and restore the backup. It happens quite often after your first backup.

hey mike..
i have got clockwork mod recovery 2.5.7 (unrevoked3) and whenever i try to do ndroid backup the screen goes blank ( or something like that)
how do we know the backup has been finished ;?
The screen shouldn't go blank.
What happens when you choose restore in clockworkmod? Does it give you any backups to choose from?

thnx to "rastaman-fb" from android-forums
1st of all doing a backup using rom manager or clockwork after rooting causes a boot loop. its easy to fix. just restore your nandroid backup you made that caused the boot loop in the first place
go to recovery (voldown + power) use volume rocker to select recovery and press power to boot to recovery
go into backup and restore and restore the backup

I had the same problem with my HTC EVO 4G using clockwork recovery 5.0.2.2. Phone is rooted, but still has the default ROM.
I ran a backup and my screen went black. I waited for a while, but then I forced my phone to reboot by yanking the battery and my phone DID actually recover on its own.
I tried running the backup one more time and found that the backup was actually taking place. I could see the progress text if I held the phone in just the right lighting. I waited for about 5 more minutes and my phone rebooted, completing the backup successfully.
So long story short, if your screen goes black, just be patient and wait...it may just be running silent.

[Q] Soft-bricked ><

So I soft bricked my phone... wasn't thinking and nandroid back to gingerbread from calkulin's ICS, then tried flashing CWM EL26 over it. Rebooted and I can't get back to recovery or download mode.
I'll try turning it on, see the samsung boot logo for two seconds and then it'll turn right back off.
What can I do? Thanks.
Update: Got into CWM... whew
To go back to gb, you need to install gb based cwm recovery first something like Rogue el29 recovery kernel and don't wait until reboot. During the reboot, go into recovery mode and restore your nandroid.
(Before restoring nandroid backup, format all is recommended)
One more important thing is, be sure that your nandroid backup is correct (md5 checksum).

I'd be careful with the nandroid using CWM from ICS to GB, that's how I (and a few other people) hard bricked the phone with the early ICS leaks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495
If you're going back to GB I'd recommend using on of sfhub's One-Click ROM's!!
Just Odin back to EL29 with a full restore from Sfhub then install cwm from the autosticky root and restore your nand there, don't even touch the cwm included with ICS builds they are they're to flash things that don't require any wipes of any kind. People have been installing GB cwm through Odin then restoring from there but that is not a good idea and if you brick then don't say I didn't warn you.
