[Q] Sense 2.0 vs 3.0 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can someone please help me understand the difference between these two? How does Sense 3.0 fit in with Gingerbread 2.3 or 2.4? Does it?

To the best of my knowledge, Sense and Android versions are independent of each other. For our purposes, there is a very high likelyhood of getting a stock upgrade to Gingerbread on the EVO 4G (some say impending OTA very soon), but a low chance of us ever seeing Sense 3.0.

Pretty sure we won't see an official Sense 3.0 for our phones...but one can hope? Some of the 3.0 stuff looks awesome!

I don't think there is much difference between froyo and gingerbread. The froyo kernel still works on GB roms. I believe sense 3 is a GB based rom. 2.0- 2.1 are made in both varieties but it doesn't seem to add anything by being based on GB versus froyo.
Sense 3.0 seems to be suited for tablet also. There are minor changes to the way it works. The lock screen has shortcuts on it, cosmetic changes and I did notice the music player now can download cover art. Other than that I have not noticed any major enhancements. HTC hub is starting to work but gives me problems when using a different skin.

CDMA Desire Sense 2.x and 3.0

Hello-
I was wondering if any developer would like to try porting a Sense 2.x or Sense 3.0 rom to the CDMA Desire. We don't have a single Sense rom for our phone besides the official sense 1.x RUU. I along with many owners of this phone are begging for someone to port their rom, but we have not received any help. Any time you spend on this is much appreciated and I am sure that plenty of people would be willing to donate.
Thanks!

I would love this as well, but it's not very likely to happen. I believe all the GSM Desire Sense rom's are avaliable due to a dev leak. The CDMA Desire is still only on Froyo for a Sense Kernel.
I'm trying to create an easy guide for CDMA user's since it almost needs it's own forum to make it easier for new users.
It would be nice to see sense 3.0 on our devices. I wonder if there's a way to port gsm rom on cdma device? Maybe someone can give a clue?
There have actually been some recent developments that have made the "possible." I am currently testing a version of Sense 2.1+3.0 that I have ported to the CDMA Desire with coolexe's new kernel. Some stuff isn't quite right yet (no wifi/gps/bluetooth due to kernel issues) and lack of space since I have had to port from the HTC incredible which doesn't have roms that utilize SDEXT like the Desire has to. Long story short, I have Sense 2.1 + some 3.0 elements running on my BravoC, but the data space is low (30mb after fresh install) and I have some other minor issues to work out.
wow, that would be AWESOME! I have been trying every sense 2.5 to runnymede's latest 4.0 sense rom, and have yet to have one go through. this explains it all! con247, that would be awesome man, let us know if you get it working. if you need help testing/finding bugs, i would be more than happy to help

[Q] whats faster, sense 3.5 ROM or official sense 3.0 for htc desire HD 2.3.5 GB?

as the title says
I think 3.5 is nice to see but there are too much Bugs in it because it´s ported.
Official Sense 3 is maybe not such fast but stable.
Sense 3.5 seems to have issues with being able to be ported effectively, yet the UI feels slightly faster, it is a much of a muchness, as it's not really a true test in my opinion. Getting away from the obvious differences in the User Interface given current ROMS, it's pretty much down to Kernals and OC/UV set-up which can differ depending on user, as Devs are great at making their ROMS as efficient as they can.
Both in my opinion are fast, when you compare to how our phones used to be as stock, and really depends on the expectation of an individual, which UI they prefer, and how important a little extra speed really means to day to day running and use of your phone.
sense 3 is much faster than 3.5.......sense 3 of dual core sensation isnt that fast.....

the RS sensation sense 3.5 rom is pretty smooth, but imo, virtuous (2.35) is smoother. It also doesnt f/c as much (and doesnt have apps that cant be used such as mirror[no ffc])
some guys like sense 3.5 just because of the notes widget, facebook chat app, task widget and the rotation animations..!!
Virtuous 2.35 is the best, bug free everything is smoother faster..
Imo sense 3.5 is faster

I am using Sense 3.0 since quite sometime and i do not see any issue related to speed. Its quite fast, yet to try sense 3.5. waiting for bug free version of 3.5
Guyz....i'm a new member of this forum. I use a DHD smart phone; but i'm not smart enough in these issues, i think....
Please help me out about sense 3.5.
Will that work good in my phone? What are the bugs/problems you encountered while using that?
& how can i convert to sense 3.5?
Thanks,
Irfan

Hm.. Flash a sense 3.5 ROM . that the only way
WAIT FOR HTC OTA ? sometime HTC may Disappointed u
sense 3.5 rocks!
i'm quite sure that 3.5 is faster.. e.g. Runnymede with Rosie smoothness patch is fu***** smooth !
Sense 3.0 is fast and stable. I'm using the ARHD 6.1.2 and it's fast, really fast!
Its just a matter of personal choice. Just try both of them ARHD 6.1.2 and Runny 3.0.
Personally i like Sense 3.5 coz it just feels a shade better than 3.0. Primarily there is not much difference between 3.0 or 3.5

[Q] Fastest Sense Rom

As of right now what is currently the fastest/smoothest Sense rom that is still being supported by the dev? Any comments are appreciated
As far as still supported you might be hard to find consitency...
My opinions would be for:
TeeROM 3.0 - developers "final" version
Stock+ 3.01 - Not getting active dev but its by far one of the best Sense roms.
McSense 2.6 - Another solid but non-dev rom
Edit: The likelyhood of finding a sense rom 2.1 or higher that is fast on the incredible is very unlikely. Way to resource needy.

My port of MikG is snappy and trouble free. Of course I could be a little biased. Lol. But seriously. It is the best Sense 2.1 + ROM as far as stability and speed. That's why I ported over the newest version for us. Try it at theMikMik. MikG Incredible forum. I think you'll be pleased.

I'd say any of the Sense 1.0 roms should be fine. If you want one without bloat, or many tweaks, Liberation 3.0 would fit the bill. It's been tested for stability. It is the final version though.
McSense is also a good choice for some theming and tweaks.
I just avoid any rom based off of another phone (port). Including Sense 3.0+
Personally I run a custom cm7 kang that I've stripped down and removed everything I deemed unnecessary. Turned off animations, use Launcher Pro, and it flies faster than any Sense rom.

I would have to go with mikg man, this thing flys !

What parts of sense are you wanting intact? If you're simply looking to stay away from AOSP, my experience with Insensitive Minimalist has been excellent. Very fast and designed to be highly customizable. I like it so much for its stability and compatibility I keep flashing back to my backup of that while I wait on issues to get hammered out of ICS. My other dinc is running Stock+, so if you want a ROM that is mostly stock, its also good. Inc Ultimate looks like its worth a try, but I haven't gotten around to it.
Ultimately, "still in development" is something I don't think applies to any sense Rom at the moment, as most of the really active devs seem to have moved on to other devices.
I flashed MikG and so far I'm loving it How is it with Gingertiny kernel?
I haven't tried them all, but have tried a few of the Sense 3.5 roms - and of course my stock Sense 2 roms - Virtuous Unity, Sense...quite slow and laggy.
Also tried BeatMod Bliss Sense - again same story...slow, laggy.
But just switched from G-Lite 2 (non sense rom( to MikRoms MikRunny 1.0 and for a Sense 3.5 based rom it's FAST. Faster than my original slow Gingerbread ROM, actually!
Add Supercharger script and a SDcard partition and you're flying ;-)
Oh I have a Desire Z, so RAM/speed is a real issue. So impressive that a ROM could run anything about Sense 2 at anything but prehistoric speeds :-D

ICS sense dinc 2 discussion

Will it be worth it for our phone?
We can't even get a smooth sense 3.X ROM running gingerbread
HTC had to make a dual core phone just to run 3.5 run well.
The only legit sense we have is the stock. And that's the sense used last year.
Do you think sense 3/4.X running ICS will even be worth it for the dinc 2?
.........opinions
Not sure what all the fuss is over "smoothness", any rom I've tried, Sense or otherwise, seems to run pretty smooth for me.
Second, any version of sense other than what came on the phone is a hacked port from another phone. If there are any performance issues, I don't think you can necessarily blame the hardware completely. Just the nature of the beast (the beast being a Frankenstein version of android)
Third, even without fully working drivers, the available versions of ICS run pretty darn smooth if you ask me, so I would think an official Sense on official ICS (and all the optimized driver support that comes from being official) would be pretty smooth.
But personally, I really dislike Sense, in all its incarnations, so I'm just waiting for CM9.
Guys, just post in the ICS discussion thread we already have. This is gonna get closed.

Why is Sense 3.0 more stable on Inc S?

Why aren't any of the Sense 3.0 ROMs for the Inc 2 not as stable as the Sense 3.0 official update for the Incredible S?

well for starters have you actually used both phones? if not you dont have personal experience
in any event, sense 3.0 is an official update for that phone...ie their rom was built by htc for that phone
our sense 3 roms were ported from other devices...and honestly? at least in my experience with regular 3.0 and our trinity rom, it runs really well....just the usual issues that plague ports with data cut outs for some people (area and phone dependant) which isnt *that* shocking given most inc2 users are running on cdma networks and the rom was meant for a gsm-only phone
they do use *slightly* different processors...but if anything ours should be better if not equal...so thats not an issue

Why does cyanogenmod work better on the nexus S than the fascinate?
its based on the official software that shipped with the phone
INCS has a sense 3.0 update from htc, we do not.
My friend has an Incredible S running on official Sense 3.0 so I used his to compare with mine running different Sense 3.0 ROMs. And overall I found his to be more stable by using it. The phones use the same processor. I just don't understand why, as they are both running Sense 3.0 and have the same specs.

Well I also mean by the lag as well. Apps take longer to respond and lots of stuff in the menus seem sluggish on the Inc 2 with Sense 3.0, compared to Inc S with Sense 3.0 official from HTC.

what roms also, a lot of devs here have moved on to 3.5, you may be comparing an awesome rom to a relatively unoptimized one
