[Q] Update?! - Defy General

Evening all.
Just now I decided to plug my phone into MSU and see if there was anything for me. I do this on a daily basis in the hope Moto might have FINALLY released Froyo for my Defy.
To my surprise MSU reported that THERE IS an update available, but I didn't happen to notice what exactly the update was. Of course I accepted, as I just assumed it would finally be this illusive Froyo.
It all took about 10 minutes to update, however my phone is still reporting firmware version 2.1-update1 wtf? Forever hopeful I then proceeded to the BBC/radio1 website and discovered the stock browser was attempting (badly) to play what I believe was a Flash video on the main page.
My network is T-mobile UK. Can anyone help me figure out exactly what update I have received please?
Much thanks!
(oh and Quarx while I am here... if you read this... thank-you so much for all your hard work on the CM7 port. I am yet to try it, but I am very tempted!)

Just tried to update my defy but no update found.

Well I know something happened. I suppose it could just be an incremental update. It's even plausible that Flash Lite attempted to play the Flash video (badly) on the BBC radio 1 website.
I really thought Froyo had finally arrived!

I had a look on the Moto Software Update site yesterday and it was still showing an update for eclair to version 2.51 for t-mobile, vodaphone and unbranded.

problem! update hasnt actually updated phone

hey
I have an orange phone which a while ago i flashed with a generic rom and rooted. because of this i was unable to install the OTA so i did a manual upgrade to this rom:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
This installed fine (it seems), but as i am on orange, when i rebooted the phone it was network locked. I read that flashing an older radio solved this problem so i went and flashed this radio:
update-bravo-radio-32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11-signed.zip
This now makes my phone boot and work fine with no lock, HOWEVER, the software version still says it is on 1.15.405.4 and not the updated version!!!!
I have tried testing one of the bugs that was fixed in the new ota (i sms'd myself from skype and it still says it was sent by a facebook contact) and so that fix clearly wasnt present and the upgrade just hasnt seemd to work. Can anyone shed any light on this? could it have anything to do with what is installed on my phone during step 1 of the root? the root package i am using is called r5-desire-root-alt
Thanks for anyone who can help on this
Rooting the phone puts the 1.15.405.4 ROM back on your device, if you want 1.21 you'll have to then buy an unlock code to free up the device...
There is an update ZIP in the ROM dev forum which updates the system but leaves the radio alone so might wanna try that...
thanks for this, but the only update i have been able to find in the dev forum is the one on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
but there is a note at the top saying they all contain radio updates
do you have a link to one without the radio update?
Didn't look hard did you??

thank you sooo much, this has finally sorted out my problem

[Q] Question about OTA update?????

First off I am a noob with the android environment! I was one of the people that used the "leaked" version .3 of froyo 2.2. I was out of town the past week or so and I turned my phone on this morning and it says there is a system update to Android 2.2 and its the .6 version. So my question is should I update my phone? Again I already have the .3 version on my phone.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Since there is no root method for either version yet and this update will fix some known bugs with the .3 release, I don't see how it could hurt. You still won't be able to root as of yet. Sounds like a win.

The only possible catch is if somebody found an exploit for .3 that was fixed in .6, in which case you would have been able to root if you hadn't updated. Unlikely, as most devs are probably looking through the .6 code anyway.
Thanks for the info fellas!

2.2 came to wifes phone thia morning but not mine

The long awaited froyo update came to my wifes stock phone this morning but mine not yet. i installed the earlie release and then used odin to flash back to the stock 2.1 but I didnt get the update, is it being staggered released? or is it because i efed with my phone. can someone link me to where i can download it and not wait for sprint if thats the problem. I cant wait to see if the bugs were really worked out on my wifes phone but that is hours. away. I hope i am the first to post this news
I recived the ota by doing a hard reset. If you don't want to do that then samsung actually posted the download on their page.

Do you mean the update that is from sept 16? WTF? I am only 2 weeks behind on readin in the forums so is this new or old news. Is this the earlie release that crashed my gps and had bug city or is it stable? Well I hope its new and the devs can make a real rom flashable from clockwork pre rooted . How did you do a hard reset?
This is a new update. Not one from September. And the initial roll-out started last night and goes through Thursday. You may have not gotten it because you are later on the list than your wife. Or it may be because you effed with your phone. You need to be on di18 to get the update.
well than i have 3 choices, do the samsung method, wait, or try the doexed through clockwork. can anyone tell me of all three which one is best? i am on DI 18 by the way.
The updates ROLL out to random phones... No one knows the pattern. You could get it later today; or be the last one to get it.

I used the Samsung method following these instructions and had NO issues at all. I didn't care whether I had to reinstall my apps from the market, it was quick and painless. Phone seems to work great! GPS locked almost instantly, Flash already installed with the update.
If you use this method make sure you remove the battery TWICE, per the instructions.

Foreign, pohne works but now for the 2.3.6 update

Hey guys,
I live in the Netherlands and bought the captivate glide as soon it was simlock free. The problem I am now facing though is getting the 2.3.6 update. While checking for the OTA update via the phone, it does see the update, but can't download it due to 'connecting issues' (since the update is on an AT&T server and the phone being in the Netherlands on a different provider, that does make sense).
Now, how or where can I get a hold of the OTA update to put on the phone via the pc? I saw somewhere on XDA forums that someone put it online, but it was removed from the fileshareing site.
I'm not into rooting the phone at the moment, though I might be in the future. Overclocking won't be necessary either since it's really fast, so I'd rather not put other kernels or roms on it.
Who can help me?
It is being discussed here

Apprently people (including myself) are not able to update to 2.3.6 when not on AT&T network..

What if I installed ICS leak and then official ICS released?

Hey guys.
I am thinking about installing ICS leak but what if official ICS release afterward?
The OS will be exactly same so I do not need to do anything?
or I still need to upgrade or something to be an official version?
if so, there is no problem while upgrading? (leak -> official) no crash?
Thank you!
In my opinion, it could be a problem. I seriously doubt the official release will use an exe file to update the phone, like the leak used. Therefore, the official updating process through OTA or the LG Support Tool might not work.
Of course people will say you just have to unbrick it to the stock V10f ROM. Problem is, when I did that, the OTA update process nor the LG Support Tool would update my phone. Something broke it. I even unrooted it, but no dice. I kept getting a notice for an OTA update, but the install would always fail at 2%. When I used the support tool that I got straight from the LG website, it kept telling me my phone was up to date.
Fortunately I was still in my 30 day trial and I was having hardware issues with it (normal temps of 110°F and basically no battery life). I only installed the leak in the hopes that it would fix it, but it didn't. Even going back to V10f didn't help. My new phone runs great, so I'm waiting for the official ROM.
You guys know any plan for the official?
The official for Korean Nitro was already released in this month.
