The CityID trial on my phone expired. I don't want to subscribe, so I'm looking for a replacement. Is there one that exists that:
1. Has its own database and does NOT need a data connection.
2. Also logs the city into Call History like City ID did?
I know a free one has been posted on XDA, but I believe it requires a data connection and only displays the city/state while the phone is ringing, but doesn't go into call history.
The one your thinking of that was posted here is city caller ID, I don't know of any others like cityID.

Hello all,
I was wondering if there is a fix for SGS i9000 for Rogers/Fido name display. I get the name correctly on my phone while the number is ringing, however, when I answer or don't pickup the call, I just get the number.
Thank you
i don't follow...
when i miss i call i get the normal SMS from 8888 telling me that i missed a call from such and such from the phone number that phoned me
and in the phone call log, i see the little red arrow that i missed a call with the name and phone number of the contact
if it was not a contact then it just shows the phone number (which is normal of all previous cell phones i've used)
so... what exactly is not working for you?
I don't have that feature that would send me an SMS with the name and number. I just have a "Name Display and Caller number" feature. On FIDO supported phones any person that calls, even if that person is not in the contact list, his/her name would display. On my phone, SGS i9000M, Name Display works only while the phone is ringing....

that is correct
this is how it works normally on any cell phone that i've had with Fido
only displays the name when it's ringing
it doesn't save the name, it never did for any of my previous cell phones
that's only for people that are not on your contact list
And I guess the question was if there is a way to have the name not only the number in the call log after the call is completed. Is there a fix for this? Thx

well there is nothing to FIX because it's not broken
the "Advanced Caller ID" the one that shows you the callers name even though it is not in your contact list, is a network feature
not a phone feature
the build in phone feature will match the caller ID from the network provided number to your contact list then show you the caller name, if it's not in your contact list you will just get the number
that is standard on all phones with caller ID
the trick that the network uses, is that they tag the name of the person calling you along the caller ID number
older phones wouldn't even display the name
newer phones will show the name, but not be able to do anything with it, it just displays it that's all
the build in software on most phones are only designed to save the caller ID number, no extra stuff tagging along.
translation you will need a Developer to come up with a new software to be able to save both the caller ID + the extra strings attached
Just to confirm my old nokia n97 did save the name in missed calls.

I see what you mean, on some phones when someone calls you and you do not have the persons contact saved the following happens:
1. Name is displayed along with the number while ringing.
2. When you look up the phone log the name is in there and when you save the contact it already has the name typed in for you.
On the Galaxy S number 2 does not happen. I dont know how to change it to make it work however, I am interested.
A new software will be required to do that, none of my previous phone had that feature
time to hire an android developer to make and app to do that

I have the same features with Fido and i found it to be annoying that it wouldnt show the callers name(not on my contacts) in missed calls. If its important they can call again lol.
Off-Topic:
I am about to purchase the Captivate from Rogers(finally its out...) but im with Fido, what im wondering is it possible to unlock the phone with the unlock/unfreeze guide located in the dev section. I just dont want to create a new thread for one question
PS. It didnt allow me to post the link to the guide because i just joined, sorry for the trouble lol.
I would appreciate if someone can post a fix for this issue. I'll throw in some money for a fix
Me too!

if you guys really want this feature implemented you'll have to put up a bounty to hire a developer to make an app for that

Come on Samsung or XDA!!!
Any update...any luck on this?

Is there a true caller ID app? one that show's who is calling if the person is not in your contacts? Like the old land lines used to show if you had caller ID service.
There's a few in the market like white pages, Mr numbers, etc. Just search caller id. There won't be any free ones (that I know of) so be ready to pay a little bit of money for true caller id services.
I also think such an app would only work while you're on 4G or WiFi. I believe they basically do a quick search on the net, and if you're not connected to 4G or WiFi, you don't have a data connection while your phone is ringing.
I've never understood why the name feature of landline caller ID wasn't carried over to cell phones.

you should try TrueCaller. Get the apk file by visiting truecaller.com from your phone´s browser
Try "death to unknown callers" by addafix in the market, its free and will automatically search the white and yellow pages to display listed numbers when they call. It also offers a feature to block certain numbers. Great app, works great for my EVO (rooted) but not on my fiancees EVO (uprooted). But it doesn't need superuser permissions so I'm not sure why it doesn't work for her.

After installing it ask ur permission for all ur contacts
& that way you are sending updateing all the people
in ur contacts to there site
Thats why its not legal on Google market i guess

Thanks for your feedback about this. For now, i have decide not to install TrueCaller. Instead i have installed WhosCall, which is available directly from google play.
Anybody else unable to locate a phone while Google Voice is integrated with Sprint? My two lines with GV always report "unable to locate" Go into Voice's settings and disable integration and it works great. Third line is always quickly located.
I have searched XDA, Sprint and Google and haven't found even a reference to the issue. Want to make sure it's not something on my end.

Here's my explanation:
Yah know how you can use your housephone/landline (if you have one) or someone else's phone and call yours. For example, if your phone number is: (860) 555-1255?
You use another phone and call your phone at that number, then when your greeting starts you press * and put in your passcode, then GV says "to Place a Call, Press 2". That means that you can call with two different phones, so as of now, the locator gets confused when it sees a Sprint phone and another number...
So basically it's like having two phones with one number, (which with Google Voice it is possible).
The locator gets really confused and doesn't work... Hopefully Sprint will catch up and fix this...
That's my theory.

I wouldn't think that GV would break it because neither the MDN or MIN change. Although I'm familiar with the operation of GV on its own, I'm not sure what changes behind-the-scenes after integration. Hopefully it's just a simple fix.
I'm just surprised that I didn't find any posts or faq dealing with it. One of the reasons for my low post count is I can usually find whatever answer I'm looking for without needing to ask. I'm pretty sure that almost every question has been asked and answered on a forum somewhere.

Is anyone having issues with their S III not displaying caller id on T-mobile?
After the bloatware subscription T Mobile Caller Id ran out it seems like most calls I receive now show no caller id info. I wonder if this a problem tied to that app, or something different.
Caller ID as in someone that's not on your contacts? Cause, that's a service you have to subscribe to I think. Otherwise...all my Gmail contacts show up when they call.
Called ID should be working fine but I believe you only get 7 days for free, I got rid of it cause I feel the app is just wasting my battery

Even if it is someone in my contacts, it still says unknown.

My caller id worked 2 times tops during my 7 day trial. One came with the name and the other unknown. Do I want to subscribe? That's a no brainer.

I'm running a rooted (mostly stock) rom and the tmobile subscription caller id is not there as an option on my phone. Therefore, I have never set it up. I have, however, noticed half a dozen people or so that are in my contacts that still show up as unknown when they call. If I call them once from my phone, it appears that my phone recognizes them the next time they call. What a pain. I've heard of several people having the same or similar issues. Hope they patch this stupid bug.
NO CID on T-Mobile
Caller ID stopped for me yesterday. I am not talking about the bloatware CID w/subscription. My work cell that is most definitely in my address book, is showing as "Unknown." Strange thing about this is that while on WiFi calling, if I call my work cell 1st, it will show the contact info. Calling 1st on the cellular network does not work. I am on hold with a CSR that is really trying but no success yet. She had me pull the battery and SIM. WTF?!?!?!
I did a search and could not find anything.
Just a quick question.
My bro has a S3 from Rojerks. He got rid of the Caller ID option from his plan because they charge to much for it. So now when anyone calls it shows UNKNOWN.
So we are wondering, is there some sort of hack or program (root?) that will show the name and number from his Contact list when someone calls?
I ask because whenever someone texts him the name and number show, so how can it show there and not when someone calls?
Is there a way to get the name and number to show just from his contact list only w/o the service from Rojerks?
Short and simple answer is no.
If you don't have caller id rogers masks the incoming callers making all callers display as unknown using computer sofware.
When your receiving a text message, the message by default requires a sender and receiver address or it cannot be sent/received. Otherwise you'd be getting texts from unknowns numbers with no way of replying.
BTW, if suggest try talking to the rogers retensions department (call 611 and go Thur the menus until you get to the cancel your services) the agents may offer you a better deals then other agents or going in person at any rogers dealer locations. Try googling "rogers retenison plans" and you'll find alot more information about what I'm talking about.
Personally I pay $45 a month after tax for unlimited everything (Canada wide LD, texting and what not) + 5GB of data.
Anyways I hope I answered your questions.
Cheers
