Sprint Family Locator & GV Integration Problem? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Anybody else unable to locate a phone while Google Voice is integrated with Sprint? My two lines with GV always report "unable to locate" Go into Voice's settings and disable integration and it works great. Third line is always quickly located.
I have searched XDA, Sprint and Google and haven't found even a reference to the issue. Want to make sure it's not something on my end.

Here's my explanation:
Yah know how you can use your housephone/landline (if you have one) or someone else's phone and call yours. For example, if your phone number is: (860) 555-1255?
You use another phone and call your phone at that number, then when your greeting starts you press * and put in your passcode, then GV says "to Place a Call, Press 2". That means that you can call with two different phones, so as of now, the locator gets confused when it sees a Sprint phone and another number...
So basically it's like having two phones with one number, (which with Google Voice it is possible).
The locator gets really confused and doesn't work... Hopefully Sprint will catch up and fix this...
That's my theory.

I wouldn't think that GV would break it because neither the MDN or MIN change. Although I'm familiar with the operation of GV on its own, I'm not sure what changes behind-the-scenes after integration. Hopefully it's just a simple fix.
I'm just surprised that I didn't find any posts or faq dealing with it. One of the reasons for my low post count is I can usually find whatever answer I'm looking for without needing to ask. I'm pretty sure that almost every question has been asked and answered on a forum somewhere.

[Q] Google Voice +1 Dialing issue with select roms

Seems like certain roms have issues with Google Voice. I use Google Voice for my voice mail, and with certain roms, when I go to dial out from Google Voice, whether it be using my GV number or my native Verizon number, a +1 is appended to the phone number and I get an error stating the network is busy.
At the moment, I am using TSM Gingerbang Evolved and it works fine. I get the network issue with Virtuous Unity (is the name right?) and more recently with RunnyDroid. I like some of the features of these other ROMS but cant put my finger on what the common factor is that makes Google Voice cause problems with dialing.
I'd like any assistance at all on this.. I think I may have read elsewhere that there are issues with Sense 3.0 and up with Google Voice, but I cant seem to locate that article now.
Is there no way to properly use Google Voice with higher versions of Sense?
Thanks,
-myk
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Anybody? Are any other users experiencing the same issue? I read a few posts on random forums where some had the same problem, but no resolution other than trying a different ROM. Perhaps I should change my question..
What Sense-based ROMs have you guys used that still works great with Google Voice dialing out from a voicemail?
Seriously? I can't be the only one experiencing this. Anybody at all? Maybe I'm the only one who uses GV.
Sorry man, I don't use it. I read something about having to pay for voicemail using it one time and just stopped

You're not the only one having this issue. I'm experiencing the same problem as well but I just did the work around and edit the number i'm dialing out to delete the + from the number. It's a pain in the butt if you do it all the time but I normally just "send a text" to that number, edit the number, delete the +, copy and paste it into the phone app and dial out from there. A lot of extra steps but it works.
I'm sure someone will get around to figuring out why this is happening
Myk
This bothered me so much over the past few days I finally did some digging and I found a great workaround. It's actually an app on the market. It can edit any number you dial automatically to remove or add whatever it needs to.
Prefixer
By 253°Below
Run the app, Menu>Add Rule>Manual>Outgoing
You can label the title whatever you want.
Make sure the Rule is enabled
Under "When Number Matches" Type this in
\+?[0-9]{7,}
That tells it if a number is at least 7 digits long preceded by a + in the beginning.
During Days>Mon-Sun
From Time> 00:00
To Time> 23:59
Remove Characters
\+[1]
That's it. Try dialing a number from anywhere. Some of my facebook contacts automatically have a +1 in front of them and i'm now able to call without editing the number manually every single time.
THANK YOU!
That was driving me crazy...
thank you very much, this works like a charm and makes ROMs much more usable
Wonder why the devs of these ROMs don't include something like this, as you would think everyone has this problem. It may not be an issue with the built in phone call log, but definitely is if you use Google Voice.
thanks again

[Q] Google voice app not making calls all of a sudden

My google voice number no longer shows up on the caller id of the person I'm calling. When I text someone, it comes in as my gv number, but when I call, my sprint number shows up. My gv number is my business line and I need it to show when I call. I have searched for 2 days for a solution, and I spoke to sprint 3 times with no fix. Google customer support is non-existent, and I actually paid for my gv number. Please please please help...
Sean
Forgot to mention that this only started a few days ago, all of a sudden. I have the phone for 3 months without any problems using google voice and now this. I don't know what changed. I am on Calkulins 2.9.2 rom. It's possible it's related to Google play store being forced on us...
What do you guys think?
Dunno if I'm allowed to bump, but this is really important to me. Please help if you can.
Have you tried disabling google voice through the full website, and then following the procedure to enable it?

I did that three times over the last 4 days. It was working without any difficulties till this past Tuesday or Wednesday, not exactly sure. Don;t know if it's the rom (didnt work on latest blazer, calk's 2.9.2 or TNZ blend EL29(think that's what it's called). Been searching for a fix since. Thanks for responding...
Anyone?

With the amount of questions that pop up, a thread gets lost in a hurry. I figure I gotta bump it if I wanna get some air time.
Help! This is my business number and its throwing a wrench in my business.
If you call from the google voice app and not the phone app, what number does it show? It may be a sprint integration setting.

It doesn't matter if I call from the Google Voice app. I disabled and re-enabled sprint integration 3 times. It doesn't change anything. Thanks for replying

That is strange, somewhat impossible. I would try calling directly from the website and seeing what happens. I would say that you accidentally ported your number to google voice somehow, but it is still showing up right when you text.

I went searching on the google voice forum, there are many people with the same problem that started all of a sudden in the past week. It's obviously a big problem, although since Google has zero customer support who knows if or when they'll fix it.

Google voice number question

Do I have never tried Google voice and I'm confused about what exactly it is to be honest. When I go online to view my Google voice account I haves phone number assigned to me, but if I try to call that number out says unable to complete the call. I have the number associated with my spring line but nothing happens. Am I just misunderstanding Google voice? I was hoping I could use that number for people that I don't care to share my real number with that way I can just turn off Google voice in my phone when I don't want to be reached on that line. Sorry for the run on its late.

Wow, not one person had an answer for me? I guess posting in the Q&A forum wasn't the best place, if I would have posted in general or development I'd have an answer already a day later.

You have two options when you install google voice, you can select next during install to integrate google voice with Sprint. What this will do is you will have the option of either using the google voice # as your actual phone number on the cell phone or you can port your Sprint number and it will replace the google voice # that is assigned.
From what I understand from what you are trying to do, I would make sure that when you install the app, select skip to avoid the Sprint integration. Then your next step would to to sign on voice.google.com and set up a call forwarding. This will enable you to give out your google voice number to people and when it rings it should forward the call to your Sprint phone.
First of all this is the right place to post. Secondly you posted at 2 in the morning, it probably went straight to the second page until now.

No Sprint Google Voice Integration

As far as I can tell, if you have and use this feature regularly, you will not be able to use this feature on this phone unless rooting/romming fixes it. Something samsung has done has broken GVoice on ALL galaxy S3 devices. Some googling reveals that several users have reported issues w/ GS3 (sprint customer or not) and google voice.
Where to from here? Do I pack er up and send it all back to amazon? I'm tempted to. I originally wanted the Evo 4GLTE. I'm sure that works perfectly fine with the sprint feature I use the most. Sigh.
Mind elaborating on what's broken? I have gvoice and have had my s3 for about 3 weeks and while I see some issues, I've still been able to fully use it. Its the number I strictly use for work and so far so good.

The sprint integration allows you to use your main number AS a google voice number. That feature no longer works. :\ What it allowed me to do was to send a text from my device, and view/reply to it from the browser google voice interface.
I've deactivated for now and when I attempt to reactivate I get an error. I'm hoping someone chimes in who's had this problem, but it looks like I must be one of the few who converted over. Ugh
I got the same error, but I kept trying it over and over, and it eventually worked. I had an issue with calls not connecting correctly somewhere in between Google and Sprint, so I would get calls that were completely silent. However, I called Sprint and they completely reprogrammed everything on the back end, and I haven't had the problem since.

I spent many hours and shed tears (almost but not really) last night to no avail. Very very weird. You're right though. It finally worked. What I had to do was completely deactivate, reactivate while signed out on my phone. It's back now. Feels good.
Sorry to bug you guys, carry on.

The Sprint integration also works the other way... allowing you to use an original Google Voice (or even GrandCentral) number AS your Sprint Number.
That's how mine is set up, and I can call, text, receive calls, receive texts just as I did on my original Evo 4G without any issues.
Maybe it's just the one way that is screwed up?
If using GVoice, when you get a new phone, you should deactivate GVoice from the web page before switching your phone.
Switch phone, then reactivate.
Kind of a PITA, and neither Sprint nor Google cover swapping devices.

I used to do the same thing back with my Evo 4G.. but this time when I went to activiate my S3, since the website activation was down, I did so over the phone.
When the rep mentioned she was going to test my phone to see if it receives a call and leave a voicemail, I told her I would have to go to Google first and do the remove/reintegrate dance before she tried , and she said "That's no longer needed on the newer phones". She then called my Gvoice number, gvoicemail picked up and was sent to the Google voice app on the phone just like it should have.
Didn't need to touch a thing, I was quite impressed.
I understand what the op is referring to, I think. With Google voice integrated to your Sprint phone, and selecting gvoice to use your Sprint number as the primary number, you are then unable to:1. use the stock messaging app to receive messages, despite selecting 'use stock messenger' for text messages. All messages are now received thru Google voice widget. 2. You are unable to select 'do not disturb' in this configuration either, which I find unacceptable given the dog**** airline I work for and the harassment we receive on the phone (sorry that's another story). I had to skip the integration portion and use gvoice separate from Sprint so I could retain those features. For those of you who are switching back and forth, integrated and not, I found that it can take up to an hour for the network to catch up. So if you switch one way and want to switch immediately back, you may have to wait.

Sprint is currently experiencing a technical difficulty which prevents new users from integrating their Sprint accounts with Google Voice. Also, users who have disabled the integration cannot re-enable Google Voice/Sprint integration at this time.
Please know that they are hard at work on a solution.

same issues other people are describing. I use my google voice number (not my Sprint number) as the outgoing displayed number. Right now initiating calls from my phone display my sprint number and not my google number. Tried disabling from the web interface and it told me that Sprint was undergoing maintenance. bah.
I just had my SEP changed to the Everything 450 yesterday, and my GV integration stopped working. I went online and tried to reassociate, and I keep getting a back-end failure, and that I need to call Sprint. Is this the same problem that you guys have been experiencing for months? If so, I feel like I am screwed...
yep, had the same prob when I first got my phone about a month ago. When I tried to make a call, my real sprint number would show. I searched through the google voice app to see if I had somehow skipped the settings of "ask everytime I make a call" blah blah, couldnt find it. Then I thought it was something messed up in the new google voice app since I couldnt find my backup (older) google voice app.
I eventually called sprint, and they reprovisioned my phone, and everything was working fine.
I just flashed my phone a few days ago to get root and the freegs3 rom, and now everything is borked again. Which is confusing the hell out of me, because my phone is already reprovisioned, and flashing roms usually do not interfere with such settings. Looks like Im going to have to call sprint again.
I did write down the instructions they gave me the 1st time, but I cant find that either, so much for being organized.
Unable to recieve calls due to Google Voice
So I have a slightly different issue than most have reported. My wifes number would not come through to my phone. Even after multiple reboots and changing all kinds of other settings. I finally deactivated VOICE and she could suddenly call me. The strange thing was it was completely functional for some other numbers to call me, but the wife could not.
Any ideas? Or is Google Voice just pretty much borked across the board for S3 phones right now?
Ok, after flashing a rom, Im having the same probs again. Called Sprint to reprovision, and they told me its an Google Voice outtage, which I know cant be right cause this thread would be flooded. Im convinced the tech isnt techy. After he gave me this ##code, my phone updated profile, and updated prl. Now, my internet isnt working at all, 3g or 4g. He said he would call back in 2 hours, and said the systems should be up no later than 1pm tomorrow. I called to get google voice back working, not to loose more functionality of my phone! This isnt acceptable.
So, any other ideas?
I was getting furious with Sprint over this problem... I believe they finally fixed it when they reset my plan completely. Moved me to ED450 from the broken SEP. I can guarantee you the problem is on Sprint's side, and not Google's.

apologies for my injections and slight angle change. I LOVE google voice but can not really use it (use it with groove ip very nice I might at)
my problem is google voice REFUSES to let me turn off voicemail or greatly extend the "answer time" for voicemail.
when routing gvoice to a landline the "delay" factor is very small to near instant. I have no landlines all cellular and the "delay time" to cellular is simply "HUGE"
long enough that I had had my phone ring "momentarily" and just stop. not even enough time for me to pick it up.
what happens? the delay time is SO LONG from when it "connects" to when my phone actually "rings" that the call is transferred to VOICE-MAIL before I can answer it.
that renders it nearly useless for me. ever since google neutered their voice mail (no custom mp3 messages anymore) I just don;t have a use for it AND I want to get my calls. not have to call them back every time.
SO does anyone know how to either turn off voicemail all together on google voice OR extended the "time" it waits before going to voicemail so my phones have a chance to RING longer IE so I can answer them.?

Google voice verification

My epic 4g touch has lost its meid so I have no text/calling and I never intergrated Google voice with my number. so is there any way to verify my phone number to my google account without receiving the text or call? Or receive the text/call somewhere besides my phone? Any help would be awesome!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Hey bud. You will need a working phone to verify a number. I don't use google voice but I have heard from a couple people who have verified without having a phone for themselves. I don't think there's any trick to it though. Some can get by using a virtual phone # to verify, although I heard GV is cracking down on that. You can borrow a friend's phone if you have a nice friend, or if there are any old fashioned payphones nearby that should work... Sorry for not having a more pleasing answer, but wanted to reply to let you know the options are limited. Good luck.
