I just received the new prl (about a wk ago, not sure which one but I have a corporate discount) and ever since then it has come up as roaming when I am near my airrave. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem and if there are any fixes for it. I have reset my airrave but it didn't affect anything.
I have an Airave, but when I try updating my PRL, it goes through the motions and when it is done i am still on 60676. So I cannot say if i have this problem.

Same here...60676.
Here is Airave phone number 866-556-7310
Thanks for the airrave #. I'll be sure to call them as soon I have a few hour free.

LOL...they are not as bad as normal customer care. But they might be able to register the prl number and reset your airave. What PRL # is it?

That's funny, it notified me of a new prl updated and I guess I am still on 60676. Weird, now I am curious why I am roaming on the airrave...because it must not be caused by the prl update.

Because they sent the Airave a software update that screwed up 50% of them.

I called airave tech and after several techs got someone who could help. Profile, prl, reprogram, hard reset, bs, bs ,bs, and now they're sending me a different model airave. Apparently the samsung model I have is not compatible with some android devices (worked until a wk. ago). I just posted so if others have issues...
On a side note, why do they always suggest hard reset first, like it's a magical answer? Most non-xda users lack nandroid backups for bullsh*t like that. Rant over. I will report back if I have further issues with the upgraded airave.

It's in their Idiot's guide to Customer Service....same as cable, cell phone, TV services...etc.
So I got my new airrave today installed it and called them to get it working and I am still roaming! WTF! Other phones in the house see it fine and Tasker recognizes it in my profiles but I have that damn little roaming triangle over my signal bars. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it.

So through my searching, signal strength ranges from -50dbm (Excellent) to -110dbm (Poor)
I am constantly seeing numbers in the -80dbm range, indicating I have rather poor signal strength.
The fact that I am less than a quarter mile from a known tower confuses me. I would figure being that close I should have great strength, but I dont.
Is there anything I can do to help this, or.. why is this happening?
I'm sure you have already, but you never know...
Do you update your PRL? That sometimes can help. Also have you flashed the latest radio update? Which ROM are you using?

I am running SalvageMod.
PRL is 60677. I am not sure of anything else.
I am thinking of flashing all the lasest radios and such this evening.
When I was running Sprint Lovers, my PRI was the latest 1.90.xx.xx and Baseband was the latest 2.15.xx.xx as far as I know.
Hmm.. honestly I'm not sure what else to think of. I must say tho, I have never tried SalvageMod.. but I do realize that some ROMs have HORRIBLE 3G speeds, as others work fairly well. Not sure why that is tho. I'm running MikFroYo 4.6, and my 3G is pretty decent.
-80 dbm is actually not *that* bad at all. It's not great, but it's not terrible either. Performance degradation usually starts to happen in the lower -80's (closer to -90) dbm.
You need to remember, the db measurement is done on a logarithmic scale, not linear. A change of 10db is equivalent to a 100x change in power. Read here if you want to learn more - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DBm
Yeah 80 isn't that bad try being on 99 when you get in the house lol. Glad I moved recently.
I get horrible signal in my house. My bedroom I drop calls even. I was hoping this thread had some solutions. Lol I have tried a few roms radios ect .... many combos too.

There really isn't a permanent solution unless you relocate or call sprint and ***** about your ****ty service until they send you an "airave" unit for your home. At my old place the signal was terrible so I qualified to get a free airave and it boosted my signal from -99 to -65 which was awesome(also gives you 3G). Its just a mini cell tower that runs off your internet just in case you didn't know what it was. Good luck
You need to go through retentions to get the airave for free.

Free? Yeah but they add a line to your account, that's exactly what they told me.
I told them I didn't want to add a line, I just wanted them to fix whatever was going on.
They credited my acct. $50
Took a couple days of talking to CS but it wasen't hard at all.
I only spoke with 1 person and they took care of it I'm not sure if it was retentions. I have 2 lines on my account there isnt a 3rd line for my airave! They gave me the box for free and they airave fee is like 5 bucks a month I believe but they waive it so idk.
Maybe this will help!

You're right, after I activated the airave, a second phone # did show up on my account. However, the way it was explained, if/when I terminate my service with sprint, I need to return the airave back, or be charged $100 or $200 for the device. The device and plan that it's on is not subject to any etf or other fees. I was told assigning a number to the device is the only way they can link the device to my account. If I had a data card, it too would have a number assigned to it.
What is the issue of having this virtual line added to your account?

Makes sense -- my MiFi (previously USB 3G) has a phone number assigned to it. I think it really has to do with the Sprint provisioning system being phone-centric. Any devices would likely need a phone number to fit properly in their system.

Little Help
So I rooted my sprint HTC EVO 4G a few months ago and just flashed the MikG v.2.55 ROM - all good. However, my voice signal reception went from 2-3 bars down to no service at all and my 3G connection is only 1X. I tried updating my "profile" and PRL, no help. Any suggestions on how to increase my signal strength? Do I need to update my "radios" - no idea what those are but I have read a few articles that indicate this might be the problem.
Hardware Version: 004
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense: 2.1
Software: 2.55
Kernal: 2.6.35.10-g6fe11b3-dirty
[email protected] PoonSense
2.3.3-1
Baseband: 2.15.00.0808
Build: MikG - Sense 2.1 + 3.0
PRI: 2.15_003
PRL:60681
Thanks in advance.
You may want to check if you are actuually connected to the tower you think you are. I have seen similar issues where the closest tower is not the one I am connected to. I use open signal maps on phone, to check, it also helps me tell where for line of sight I can go in house for best reception.

I am currently running a modified rom (calkulins). I called them regarding terrible reception in my apartment (0-1 bars with dropped calls) in hope of getting an airave. They wanted me to bring my phone into a store to get it checked out. Should i restore it to stock rom before i bring it in?

What do YOU think YOU should do since it YOUR phone... Lets be honest here do you really need to ask that question? Jus Sayin!
I was just wondering since i couldnt find a thread on it via this forum or google. I wasnt sure if they would check if i was running a custom rom.
Do a Nandroid backup and then restore to pure EL29. They would almost certainly tell you the problem was caused by the custom Rom. Once they determine the phone is fine you can restore back to your everyday setup and get your airrave
Thanks. I'll do that. Just have to find that tiny usb device to reset my counter.
No... with Sprint (at least for the majority) there is no reason to worry about software on your device. Chances are they will just open it up check for water damage and check to see if the antenna is messed up.
I can't say this is the case for all stores. I know the store I work for does not care along with the majority of stores surrounding. If they feel its a software issue they will just do a hard reset on the device to see if it solves the issue.
If you were sending it in to Sprint vs at a store then I would say it would be different.
Maybe also use a USB jig to reset the download count to be on the safe side also.
Idk what their issue is, I got an airave for free when i *****ed about my service and did it all via phone, no store visit. And yes my service sucked even on stock.

I called sprint a month ago and told them I had been having reception issues for months and they offered me an airave right away for free. I would try calling back and asking them to send you one. It improves reception but doesnt always connect plus you have to run a long wire for the gps to connect. you would think with technology it would be more sophisticated but for free and better reception it works.
Ask for retentions department.
Sprint Care is able to see the number of dropped calls. If you are indeed dropping calls, just tell them that you should not have to drive to a store to verify what they should already be able to see.
my reception at the house has been junk recently - 4 bars to 0 and calls are getting dropped. I haven't updated the modem, but I did update my PRL today and the signal has been strong since then.
Yeah I ordered an airave last fall through customer service (*2) and they sent it right away after I told them about my reception problems. You should try and call again because there is no reason why you should take it to the sprint store.
or hell, just call and tell them you already went and they said it was fine haha. but yeah, its weird that there asking you to send it in to a store if you called customer service....unless you called a store?

My bad but I guess I just don't see the need to start a thread about should I reset my phone to take back to Sprint. I understand what he wants to do but lets be honest... Safest thing in this situation is cover all your bases and just reset to stock take it in let them look at it and then root when you get back home. Honestly rooting is not hard on this phone and unrooting is just as easy....
So my form of helping was to not have threads like this for questions that honestly are just common sense...
@OP - I meant nothing negative to you directly and I apologize for all the sensitive people who don't like what I said....
Good luck on your AirRave I have one and its well worth it for free
Thanks for the help everyone. I contacted sprint again and re-explained my situation. They informed me that one of their towers has been down since November, which is strange because the lady I spoke to before said there was no reports regarding that. I am still skeptical and still no airave.
No harm done playya. It was more of a frustration since i work at a hospital and need to know if I have to come in early for a post-operation evaluation. I've had instances when phone calls/texts don't come through, so i would have to wake up at 3-4AM, reboot my phone, drive a mile away, and see if i get a text/voicemail. My friend who has sprint and visited me had the same issue. I'm very close to changing my service.
It's been 2 weeks in, about 10 calls to sprint with a drop call almost every time, and they still haven't resolved this issue. They've scheduled callbacks but haven't received one yet. During my drop calls, half the time the reps don't bother calling back.
They keep saying that the "down tower" is fixed and close my ticket, then when i call saying that my signal is unchanged, there is another outtage. I hope this is worth their hassle, because there's going to be 10 lines transfered (3 on mine and 7 on my extended family.)
Sorry for my rant, but this has been frustrating.
Next time you call explain the situation and past history and politely insist that the rep open a network CTMS ticket.
So a few weeks ago I have to call VZW because others were not receiving the majority of the SMS and mms messages I sent. A day later they called and said it had been fixed and it shown happen again. Well now its about two weeks later and its happening again. I really don't feel like being on the phone for hours again repeating the same thing over and over. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? I really am tempted to just switch carriers even if I lose unlimited data. I feel like the ETF should be waived since I'm not receiving the service I should be.

I have the opposite experience...
I have a Femtocell here at the house and when ever I send a text while I'm at home it actually gets sent two or three times. Annoying. I'm just grateful I haven't texted anyone by mistake with NSFW comments.
maybe try using google voice for a while? it uses data to send texts and since you have unlimited data you should give it a go until verizon fixes things and make sure to call them to get credit for that too
Did you try getting a new SIM? Does it only occur in a single area? Have you tried different phones/ROMS/kernels/radios?

It occurs everywhere I go haven't been able to pinpoint a single area. I was 50 miles from home last time it happened and they "fixed" it but it still happens here and at home. Haven't tried a new SIM cause I figured that would be the next step. I don't have another LTE phone to try and if I go back to my Fascinate my unlimited data plan will be removed from my account. It initially happened on Liquid 1.3 but before I called them I went back to complete stock 4.0.2 and radios and it was happening multiple times as I was talking to her on the phone.
Good luck getting out of your ETF after one tech support call.

I love VZW, I guess it all depends on where you live. I had a similar horrible experience with At&t (who I hate): long story short, I received multiples of every text for months. Not just a few, but 20-100 of every text, and I couldn't send/receive any others while it was happening. I spent 20+ hours on the phone with them and went through 3 sim cards before I left their lame asses for VZW and never looked back. They did wave my ETF, but it was very well documented over a looooong period of time I was having the issues and everything I/we tried to make it work. I swear thats the short story lol. I seriously doubt they would have waved it had I just defaulted the contract after the first call. But I agree with you, its worth paying the ETF to get the service you need! I am just surprised you are having problems with VZW since all my friends and I LOVE them - they are the ONLY carrier to have reception/data everywhere in north Alabama.

Same here except that I had the bad experiences with Sprint and came to VZW.
IMHO I think most of the network problems right now are due to upgrades. Seems like wherever they are rolling out LTE there are problems during the process.
Moral of the story is that for any 2 random carriers X and Y, you'll always be able to find someone who's pissed off at X and moved to Y, then someone who had a bad experience at Y and moved to X. There are so many variables you really can't paint two situations the same.

I would agree with the upgrade statement, I was told they were upgrading several towers in my area. However, it certainly wasn't to LTE. At&t has mostly Edge data in my area and the towers were being upgraded to 3G - or so I was told.

Are you running 4.0.4 and are you also having trouble receiving texts / you receive multiple text messages all at once? That would be a 4.0.4 issue, as well as sometimes missing calls from people / getting voicemails with no indication of an actual call. Going back to 4.0.3 unfortunately fixed these issues for me.

This is true. But I think in any given geographical area there is a clear "better" carrier. At least I know there is a clear winner in my area, and I was one of the last of my group of friends to switch - I was holding out on the GSM networks to step their game up, but they failed to.
i was having MMS issues here. The issue was fixed when I manually entered the APN configuration (im using Go SMS which allows you to change these in Settings > MMS Settings > APN Configuration).
For verizon, just add "H T T P : / /mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms" to MMSC setting.
(remove the spaces)
Well now on the Galaxy S3, instead of the text spam commonly know thanks to the Airave garbage connection booster, there is now major text hold back! Usually texts say no sent and spam on most phones with the Airave, but with the S3, you can send texts out perfectly fine, only issue is that the airave will hold your messages your phone is trying to receive anywhere from 30 minutes to 12 HOURS. was texting at 1AM and didnt get my texts until 1PM. I remained only within my house that day with in range of the Airave.
I AM SUGGESTING THAT ALL S3 OWERS WHO ALSO OWN AN AIRAVE, WATCH OUT FOR YOUR PHONE ALL OF A SUDEN GETTING A LACK OF TEXTS/GOING QUIET.
After restarting the Airave, it could take 15-30 minutes, possibly more to receive your texts. Sadly im stuck with the worthless thing on because i have no connection at my house. Im required to keep it on if i want to use my phone for calls and text. >_>
Also, does anyone know a fix?
You could try and ask for a newer model, if they have one. If not, ask for a replacment, you might be paying a fee every month, unless you were able to get out of it like I did. But remember, if you ever are able to stop using it, and they see that, they will charge you. They do give you a certain amount of time to send it back.
That's kind of odd.. U might need a new model or something. I have one at my house I got a few months ago and the thing has worked beautifully for me

OP, just got my Airave yesterday and it seems to be working. I did have to call Tech support for a setup issue. I mentioned to him that I read that there is a problem with the Airave and text messaging. He told me that the problem can be resolved by calling them and they can "clear" something thus resolving the issue. I hope this helps.
The fix for me was to unplug the airave. Lol.
I can confirm op statement...had this issue number of times already and the latest got me in trouble with the gf.tech support did a reset on their end and is working ok now....previously had the epic that worked super....tech support said it's a known issue and that a software patch is in the works

I had the original Airave and then got an Airvana when they came out. I have had this same issue on the Airvana with my Evo3D, my S2 and my S3. Happened with the S3 Monday night. Airave tech support has been telling me it's a known issue and a software update is coming for the Airvana since January. What they had me to do fix it is hold the reset button in for 30 seconds and then let go. Supposedly that makes it completely reset and it will pick up any new software updates from Sprint. Doesn't happen very often, maybe 4-5 times this year so far, but it is very annoying. At least the other day I knew there was a problem since I had been texting with 3 people and stopped getting replies. Other times I didn't know until I left the house and got 50+ texts. I have the original Airave still sitting here, I should go back to that since it never caused my any issues. The Airvana has been lots of issues and I don't need the 3G on it since I use wifi in the house anyway.
Theres a newer Airave out, 2.5, that I just updated to, and haven't had an issue at all, knock on wood.

New airave, it's a 3rd gen I believe, Airave 2.5. Little smaller than the 2.0. Not too sure what the difference is, but I had the original airave, then got 2 airvana's from Sprint (for some ridiculous reason) although neither worked well so I stuck with the original one. I called recently because of crappy service (and to see if there was anything new that might work better) and they sent me the 2.5. Check which one you have, IIRC the 2.0 states 2.0 on it and the 2.5 notes 2.5.
wow...thanks man..I must have an original because it doesn't say either..just airvana on the left side(front) and sprint on the right side (front)...hmmm
New model or not it's garbage =p and if you haven't had any issues yet it's probably because you don't catch it as its doing it. Tech support says they can fix it but it lasts only a week or so then back

While I do appreciate your opinion, this is the third airave I've had (been using them for the past 4+ years) and although I did have issues with the second one so I reverted to the original (which worked fine just didn't have data), I've had the latest for over 2 weeks and haven't had one issue. I have 5 lines that connect to it and as I work from a home office, have the airave sitting on my desk and use my phone throughout the day and night to text, make calls, etc, I can tell you that I highly doubt I haven't caught it doing whatever it is it's not supposed to do. But as I appreciate and respect your opinion, I will watch it to make sure it doesn't misbehave :fingers-crossed:
Also, you can contact the airave tech support directly via email and they'll call you back almost immediately. I would recommend it to see if a different tech (assuming the tech you spoke with was actually airave tech and not phone tech support). Their email address direct to their dept is [email protected].

don't mean to hijack the thread but do you mean you updated your existing airave's software?...or you got a new unit sent to you? if you updated the software....how?
To the OP...i have 2 GS3's and both work fine on my airave (text&talk)..my Airave is about a year old...

No its a new airave. On the unit itself it will say "Airave 2.5".

You could try and ask for a newer model, if they have one. If not, ask for a replacment, you might be paying a fee every month, unless you were able to get out of it like I did. But remember, if you ever are able to stop using it, and they see that, they will charge you. They do give you a certain amount of time to send it back.

Might want to check your Sprint bill online. Click Show Details And Explanation of Charges under Sprint surcharges and it will say administration fee, that's the fee for the airave. The rep told me there is no way to have this removed due to the system not being smart enough to decipher that it should not be charged so he credited me $50. Worked for me.
I have an airrave and had a messaging issue when I first got my phone, I would get messages anywhere from 1 - 12 hours later, sometimes the same message 3 or 4 times. I thought it could be the airrave, but found out it was the "network vision" updates that were going on. After a week I didnt have any issues. My texts, etc. work fine now.
I also have an Airave and can confirm this problem
I was talking to a rep a few weeks back and they metioned that there was a firmware update specifically designed to address the texting issue with newer phones (aka S3) and the airrave units.
I have a Gen 2 I guess, not newest 2.5 unit but the one before it.
It works 'mostly' fine. I say mostly, because in order for the Airrave unit to work properly it MUST be outside of any firewalls/routers, as the first thing on your ISP's connection.
I'm a network guy so this normally I'd say 'bull****' to, however I tried everything, including a DMZ which should have worked perfectly fine... however for some reason after about a week or so, it would always fail.
I went through 3 units before a tech realized it was not set up per 'spec' and since moving it outside of the router it works fine. (I did try several routers of different makes and several dumb 'switches' as well). The only thing I can think of is that the system on sprints end tries to ping the device and notices an extra hop or something and messes it up.
Since moving it outside the ONLY issue I have with the unit is that it's internal router won't fully send traffic until the device itself has sync'd up with Sprint servers. This means if the power goes out, even for a moment, that I have to wait up to 30 min as the airrave device reinitializes itself. Stupid design imo.. the router should be independent of the transmitter, but oh well, now it's on a rather robust backup battery that can last several hours
My advice to the OP is talk to Sprint and have them verify you're on the newest firmware for your device as well as making sure it's set up properly outside of a network/firewall setup.

I never went through the router and have never had issues. I don't know why the directions don't say to just install it that way anyways.
So I noticed a couple minutes ago my service completely went out, I live in Lancaster ca could these be some signs of 4g lte?

I have been going through the same thing in the Washington DC area. I am notified that I have 3g coverage but when I try to use it, there is absolutely no connectivity. After spending MANY hours on the line with the customer service people at Sprint (trying to update profile, trying to update PRL, them resetting everything on their end, etc.....) I was told that the area I was in was going through the Vision upgrade. While this made me happy, what they told me was that it could be up to a month before normal service was properly restored. They are taking down the older motorola towers and putting up new samsung towers.
I would recommend that you get in touch with them so they can note it on your account that you are having connectivity issues. I was told (and I have it in writing) that they will go back and adjust the account in arrears to reflect the amount of time you had issues with their service.
I've been having problems with coverage in the Louisville KY area as well. I called Sprint and reported it. I wish it was LTE lol.

Well hopefully when they finally flip the almighty switch it will be worth the headache and pain of dealing with LoS......until then, I just get in touch with them every day to make sure they will adjust my account properly and eagerly await the arrival of LTE speeds!!!!
I think they r working on lte in Miami finally. Lately my phone goes in and out of roaming in known sprint areas....
Here's hoping.

I log into my Sprint account and use the Chat feature to just mention that I wanted to have my account updated that as of today I am still experiencing LoS issues and ask that they make a note on my account so that when they have finished the work in my area and restored my service, I will get properly compensated for the lost time of service. I do this via the online chat because I can not only save my chats as PDF but they also will e-mail me a copy of the chats. I have everything that is discussed in writing so if they try to say well sir we weren't notified of this issue I can tell them that they most certainly were and they had better made the appropriate adjustments!!
