Warning about Airave + Galaxy S3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Well now on the Galaxy S3, instead of the text spam commonly know thanks to the Airave garbage connection booster, there is now major text hold back! Usually texts say no sent and spam on most phones with the Airave, but with the S3, you can send texts out perfectly fine, only issue is that the airave will hold your messages your phone is trying to receive anywhere from 30 minutes to 12 HOURS. was texting at 1AM and didnt get my texts until 1PM. I remained only within my house that day with in range of the Airave.
I AM SUGGESTING THAT ALL S3 OWERS WHO ALSO OWN AN AIRAVE, WATCH OUT FOR YOUR PHONE ALL OF A SUDEN GETTING A LACK OF TEXTS/GOING QUIET.
After restarting the Airave, it could take 15-30 minutes, possibly more to receive your texts. Sadly im stuck with the worthless thing on because i have no connection at my house. Im required to keep it on if i want to use my phone for calls and text. >_>
Also, does anyone know a fix?

You could try and ask for a newer model, if they have one. If not, ask for a replacment, you might be paying a fee every month, unless you were able to get out of it like I did. But remember, if you ever are able to stop using it, and they see that, they will charge you. They do give you a certain amount of time to send it back.

That's kind of odd.. U might need a new model or something. I have one at my house I got a few months ago and the thing has worked beautifully for me

do you have the original Airave or the 3g airvana unit?

OP, just got my Airave yesterday and it seems to be working. I did have to call Tech support for a setup issue. I mentioned to him that I read that there is a problem with the Airave and text messaging. He told me that the problem can be resolved by calling them and they can "clear" something thus resolving the issue. I hope this helps.

The fix for me was to unplug the airave. Lol.

I can confirm op statement...had this issue number of times already and the latest got me in trouble with the gf.tech support did a reset on their end and is working ok now....previously had the epic that worked super....tech support said it's a known issue and that a software patch is in the works

I had the original Airave and then got an Airvana when they came out. I have had this same issue on the Airvana with my Evo3D, my S2 and my S3. Happened with the S3 Monday night. Airave tech support has been telling me it's a known issue and a software update is coming for the Airvana since January. What they had me to do fix it is hold the reset button in for 30 seconds and then let go. Supposedly that makes it completely reset and it will pick up any new software updates from Sprint. Doesn't happen very often, maybe 4-5 times this year so far, but it is very annoying. At least the other day I knew there was a problem since I had been texting with 3 people and stopped getting replies. Other times I didn't know until I left the house and got 50+ texts. I have the original Airave still sitting here, I should go back to that since it never caused my any issues. The Airvana has been lots of issues and I don't need the 3G on it since I use wifi in the house anyway.

Theres a newer Airave out, 2.5, that I just updated to, and haven't had an issue at all, knock on wood.

don't mean to hijack the thread but do you mean you updated your existing airave's software?...or you got a new unit sent to you? if you updated the software....how?
To the OP...i have 2 GS3's and both work fine on my airave (text&talk)..my Airave is about a year old...

New airave, it's a 3rd gen I believe, Airave 2.5. Little smaller than the 2.0. Not too sure what the difference is, but I had the original airave, then got 2 airvana's from Sprint (for some ridiculous reason) although neither worked well so I stuck with the original one. I called recently because of crappy service (and to see if there was anything new that might work better) and they sent me the 2.5. Check which one you have, IIRC the 2.0 states 2.0 on it and the 2.5 notes 2.5.

wow...thanks man..I must have an original because it doesn't say either..just airvana on the left side(front) and sprint on the right side (front)...hmmm

New model or not it's garbage =p and if you haven't had any issues yet it's probably because you don't catch it as its doing it. Tech support says they can fix it but it lasts only a week or so then back

While I do appreciate your opinion, this is the third airave I've had (been using them for the past 4+ years) and although I did have issues with the second one so I reverted to the original (which worked fine just didn't have data), I've had the latest for over 2 weeks and haven't had one issue. I have 5 lines that connect to it and as I work from a home office, have the airave sitting on my desk and use my phone throughout the day and night to text, make calls, etc, I can tell you that I highly doubt I haven't caught it doing whatever it is it's not supposed to do. But as I appreciate and respect your opinion, I will watch it to make sure it doesn't misbehave :fingers-crossed:
Also, you can contact the airave tech support directly via email and they'll call you back almost immediately. I would recommend it to see if a different tech (assuming the tech you spoke with was actually airave tech and not phone tech support). Their email address direct to their dept is [email protected].

No its a new airave. On the unit itself it will say "Airave 2.5".

Might want to check your Sprint bill online. Click Show Details And Explanation of Charges under Sprint surcharges and it will say administration fee, that's the fee for the airave. The rep told me there is no way to have this removed due to the system not being smart enough to decipher that it should not be charged so he credited me $50. Worked for me.

I have an airrave and had a messaging issue when I first got my phone, I would get messages anywhere from 1 - 12 hours later, sometimes the same message 3 or 4 times. I thought it could be the airrave, but found out it was the "network vision" updates that were going on. After a week I didnt have any issues. My texts, etc. work fine now.

I also have an Airave and can confirm this problem

I was talking to a rep a few weeks back and they metioned that there was a firmware update specifically designed to address the texting issue with newer phones (aka S3) and the airrave units.
I have a Gen 2 I guess, not newest 2.5 unit but the one before it.
It works 'mostly' fine. I say mostly, because in order for the Airrave unit to work properly it MUST be outside of any firewalls/routers, as the first thing on your ISP's connection.
I'm a network guy so this normally I'd say 'bull****' to, however I tried everything, including a DMZ which should have worked perfectly fine... however for some reason after about a week or so, it would always fail.
I went through 3 units before a tech realized it was not set up per 'spec' and since moving it outside of the router it works fine. (I did try several routers of different makes and several dumb 'switches' as well). The only thing I can think of is that the system on sprints end tries to ping the device and notices an extra hop or something and messes it up.
Since moving it outside the ONLY issue I have with the unit is that it's internal router won't fully send traffic until the device itself has sync'd up with Sprint servers. This means if the power goes out, even for a moment, that I have to wait up to 30 min as the airrave device reinitializes itself. Stupid design imo.. the router should be independent of the transmitter, but oh well, now it's on a rather robust backup battery that can last several hours
My advice to the OP is talk to Sprint and have them verify you're on the newest firmware for your device as well as making sure it's set up properly outside of a network/firewall setup.

I never went through the router and have never had issues. I don't know why the directions don't say to just install it that way anyways.

airave error sending text and drop calls

so i was having trouble sending/receiving text and calls drops, at first i thought it was the rom, flashed different roms modems and nothing would help i even went back stock and the problem was still there , so, i placed a phone call with my epic and my evo and after like 20 or 30 seconds the call just drop on both, so i figured if it happen on both lines it must be the airave , i unplugged it and made a test call and send few sms and ,bingo! it all works great now, i have not yet called sprint but, just wanted to share it incase someone with an airave might be or will have this issue..
btw, the airave seems to be working fine all light were ok, full bars on my cell too ..
Same here, mines been unplugged for a few weeks now. I been meaning to call Sprint to send that pos back.
i chatted with them and was told no issues around my area, i told him that seems like tower around my house were fine since i could text and call fine long as i am away from the airave, they dont seem to have a clue what the problem is...
I had the same problem this morning - full bars, could place calls but they'd drop, couldn't send/receive texts, but it seems to be fixed now. For what it's worth, I'm in San Diego, 92124. I tried restarting the Airave, router, and modem, and none of that did a thing. Left for a while and when I came back, everything's working fine.

It does that, did it with the go evo too, and the evo 3d as well.
There is an outage with the airave service. It started yesterday and is affecting all areas. Most should be back up and running now.
For those with airrave problems do the following:
Step 1: Remove battery from device
Step 2: Place battery and device on top of airrave (make sure device still has the battery door removed and screen is up)
Step 3: Press reset button on the back of the airrave
Step 4: Once all the lights are solid green on your airrave again you are done and your device is now setup to work with your airrave.
(These directions are right from Sprint)
Let me know if it works for you (it actually did for me, although I'm not sure why)
I'm sure the Sprint rep was laughing at you when they told you to do this.. lol

most sprint reps dont know even step one of this procedure i can tell you now, i tend to see the issue being because of updated ip addresses, which needs a restart, that procedure does help sometimes, hopefully its just network vision going into effect.. meh
I realize that makes ZERO sense, but it was like midnight and i had just got my E4GT and this is what finally got it to work (this was months ago...). Prior to this it did nothing at my house cause signal sucks here...

I just switched today from the Evo3D to the E4TG and have an Airvana, the 2nd model airave. I can make and receive calls, receive texts. Sending texts does not work without unplugging the airave, they just keep failing. I called support and the guy told me it's a known issue with some phones and no ETA on solution. I said guess I should switch back to my phone that was working fine then and he said "If you need to use your phone to communicate then I would switch back." No I bought my phone to use as a paperweight not to communicate dumbass.
Talked to another lady after I reset my airave and she said it was installing new firmware and even told me when it was done (lights were all solid about 10 seconds later so she must have actually been looking at it like she said.) She then told me many phones can't send texts and they don't know why. I see the mobile light flash when it tries to send just like it did with my last several phones but then fails. Love this phone but with the airave unplugged I can send texts but wont be able to make/receive calls. With it plugged in I can have calls, but not send texts. I work from home and my work phone is Sprint so have to have it plugged in. Can't really figure out why the hell it would work with some phones and not others since it shouldn't matter what phone is being used on it.
Same problem, after 15 mins on the phone with Sprint, the rep found some paperwork indicating that it is a known issue and an update is forthcoming. No indication as to ETA however. For reference, an iPhone 4s and an EVO 4G has the same issue at my house. I use Google Voice so I can not confirm the issue with the E4GT.
Yea no need to get too upset guys its a know issue and I know it sucks. I just pull the power, send txt then all is well afterwards

That would be great for me if I barely sent any texts. With the amount of texts I go through, I would just have to leave it unplugged
Yup, I.got an airave too because of horrible service around my.house. Not only dOes airave cause texting issUes, but it sends duplicate, triplicates of teXts and I get multiple copies of texts as well, some like days old. Sprints network seems worse now than before they started 'upgrades'

The thing that fixes it for me is using roam control and tossing the POS airrave in the trash.
have you guys done a hard reset of your airrave?; That is get a paperclip, and hold the reset hole in for at least 30 seconds, then release..It will take awhile for it to come back, but, anytime I have had an issue with it, that fixes it.
I have zero issues with my airrave, both for texts and for calls, so it can work properly for you...
Does anyone having this issue have the original white Samsung Airave with the blue lights? I upgraded to the Airvana when those came out in the fall of 2010. When I had the white Samsung one, I never had an issue with the duplicate texts or any other issues that I had with the Airvana right out of the box. Just wondering if maybe getting the original Airave again would work. Main difference is that one did not do 3g data (only 1x) but not a big deal as I use wifi at home.

Yea actually did that twice last night and Sprint said it loaded new firmware but still the same issue persists. Going to mess with it some more today though.
I have changed nothing today and so far I have sent about 25 texts with no problems where yesterday I could not even send 1. Making phone calls was never an issue, receiving was an occasional problem, but so far that appears to be working too.
well, knowing how pathetic Sprints network has been for the last few months, I guess anything is possible!
glad things are working for you; lets hope it stays that way!

Sprint wants to look at my phone..

I am currently running a modified rom (calkulins). I called them regarding terrible reception in my apartment (0-1 bars with dropped calls) in hope of getting an airave. They wanted me to bring my phone into a store to get it checked out. Should i restore it to stock rom before i bring it in?

What do YOU think YOU should do since it YOUR phone... Lets be honest here do you really need to ask that question? Jus Sayin!
I was just wondering since i couldnt find a thread on it via this forum or google. I wasnt sure if they would check if i was running a custom rom.
Do a Nandroid backup and then restore to pure EL29. They would almost certainly tell you the problem was caused by the custom Rom. Once they determine the phone is fine you can restore back to your everyday setup and get your airrave
Thanks. I'll do that. Just have to find that tiny usb device to reset my counter.
No... with Sprint (at least for the majority) there is no reason to worry about software on your device. Chances are they will just open it up check for water damage and check to see if the antenna is messed up.
I can't say this is the case for all stores. I know the store I work for does not care along with the majority of stores surrounding. If they feel its a software issue they will just do a hard reset on the device to see if it solves the issue.
If you were sending it in to Sprint vs at a store then I would say it would be different.
Maybe also use a USB jig to reset the download count to be on the safe side also.
Idk what their issue is, I got an airave for free when i *****ed about my service and did it all via phone, no store visit. And yes my service sucked even on stock.

Can this work even if u have the prefect reception i just wanna get an airwave just to say i have one lol
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I called sprint a month ago and told them I had been having reception issues for months and they offered me an airave right away for free. I would try calling back and asking them to send you one. It improves reception but doesnt always connect plus you have to run a long wire for the gps to connect. you would think with technology it would be more sophisticated but for free and better reception it works.
Ask for retentions department.
Sprint Care is able to see the number of dropped calls. If you are indeed dropping calls, just tell them that you should not have to drive to a store to verify what they should already be able to see.
my reception at the house has been junk recently - 4 bars to 0 and calls are getting dropped. I haven't updated the modem, but I did update my PRL today and the signal has been strong since then.
Yeah I ordered an airave last fall through customer service (*2) and they sent it right away after I told them about my reception problems. You should try and call again because there is no reason why you should take it to the sprint store.
or hell, just call and tell them you already went and they said it was fine haha. but yeah, its weird that there asking you to send it in to a store if you called customer service....unless you called a store?

My bad but I guess I just don't see the need to start a thread about should I reset my phone to take back to Sprint. I understand what he wants to do but lets be honest... Safest thing in this situation is cover all your bases and just reset to stock take it in let them look at it and then root when you get back home. Honestly rooting is not hard on this phone and unrooting is just as easy....
So my form of helping was to not have threads like this for questions that honestly are just common sense...
@OP - I meant nothing negative to you directly and I apologize for all the sensitive people who don't like what I said....
Good luck on your AirRave I have one and its well worth it for free
Thanks for the help everyone. I contacted sprint again and re-explained my situation. They informed me that one of their towers has been down since November, which is strange because the lady I spoke to before said there was no reports regarding that. I am still skeptical and still no airave.
No harm done playya. It was more of a frustration since i work at a hospital and need to know if I have to come in early for a post-operation evaluation. I've had instances when phone calls/texts don't come through, so i would have to wake up at 3-4AM, reboot my phone, drive a mile away, and see if i get a text/voicemail. My friend who has sprint and visited me had the same issue. I'm very close to changing my service.
It's been 2 weeks in, about 10 calls to sprint with a drop call almost every time, and they still haven't resolved this issue. They've scheduled callbacks but haven't received one yet. During my drop calls, half the time the reps don't bother calling back.
They keep saying that the "down tower" is fixed and close my ticket, then when i call saying that my signal is unchanged, there is another outtage. I hope this is worth their hassle, because there's going to be 10 lines transfered (3 on mine and 7 on my extended family.)
Sorry for my rant, but this has been frustrating.
Next time you call explain the situation and past history and politely insist that the rep open a network CTMS ticket.

Couple of questions for those of you with an Airrave.

So I'm moving to a new apartment in a couple of weeks, and the area is notorious for having crappy sprint coverage. Being as that I'm a 3rd party retailer for sprint, my rep set me up with a free airrave, no questions asked.
MY question is, does the Airrave have some sort of password protection so that i won't have 5 neighbors constantly using my Airrave? I know it works through my internet, so I don't want to have a bunch of people slowing down my internet.
Also, I was reading about an issue with text messaging with the airrave. Does anyone know if they fixed the problem yet?

The Airrave has made a tremendous difference for my coverage at home-- I live 35 flights in the sky here in Chicago and prior to the Airrave there were some places in my condo unit that I got full signal strength and other places within the unit that I got no signal; with the Airrave I am full strength and no longer need to worry about missed calls/texts due to my phone being in one of the dead zones in my unit.
I don't have password protection enabled on the Airrave (my Wi-Fi & broadband is PW protected) and haven't noticed a negative impact on my web speeds due to the potential of other's accessing Airrave. I would be happy to see if PW protection makes a difference if you'd like me to test it out.
As far as the sending of texts issue-- yes on RARE occasions w/the E4GT on wi-fi (which is connected to Airrave) I will get a Failed message when trying to send a text (surprisingly NO issues receiving texts, I even get texts at the same time I am getting Failed to Send notifications). My solutions, both which have worked consistently: 1) Disconnect the E4GT from wi-fi and try to resend 2) If that doesn't work reboot and try to resend.
Hope that helps
There is a way to lock it down so only you could use it.. and possibly any other lines on your acct. However when i asked sprint about it they either didnt want to hassle with it or it really doesnt matter because they didnt want me to lockit down.. either way it has a certain range which can be extended.. i think 800ft then can be extendended to a certain amt of feet. Rarely does it have issues and the only thing they make you do is reset everything. The speeds are still 3g speeds but where you have no service it works perfectly.. i use the antennae and have it close to the ceiling (i have two floors) and of course practically in thw window which is needed to maintain a good gps lock.. other than that, cant complain about something your using free of charge. There is also the time i wanted the gs2.. and what would ya know, my airrave was elig for a full upgrade ;-). So got the sgs2, did esn chng with my line, switched airrave back, sold the og epic.. win/win situation!

I got my airrave in late November and hated it.
The unit caused my phone to constantly think that it was in Tulsa, OK (when in fact I live just north of Oklahoma City, OK) - which was pretty annoying as trying to get the weather or GPS navigation was pretty useless until I got out of the airrave's range.
Then I did some testing and found out that in fact I was missing a rare amount of incoming text messages - like perhaps 1 in 20 or so.
I hate missing any message so that combined with the GPS issue was enough to make me discontinue using the airrave. Fortunately by then some of the better modems for our device had been released which made it to where I didn't need the airrave just to get reliable service at home anymore. I still occasionally miss a call because it takes so long for the phone to receive notification of the call, but I'd rather miss a call than a text message, as voicemail ALWAYS goes through, whereas a missed text message just goes off into the ether.
I came to this thread hoping to see if the problems had been solved yet, but I figured I should share my issues as well. Also I tried a ton of stuff to get the airrave to work properly even with some really knowledgable sprint techs and nothing worked - there was supposed to be an update out "sometime 2012" though so not sure if that's been pushed yet or not.
Edit: Oh also, I wanted to mention that yes you can lock down the unit to only respond to your phone number(s) pretty easily. Thing has a HUGE range as well so it has that going for it. Oh and it's not a big deal for me but do keep in mind your bill will go up by $1.50 a month for that stupid "administration fee" - but you can work it to get a free upgrade out of the line sometimes so you can make it worth it for you.
Hope this helps!
The only time I needed it was when I had the evo3d, I had no signal in my house. Since I had it I've had the texting bug, it been unplugged in my kitchen for the past 3 months.
I have had the Airvana with no issues with the Evo and then Evo3D. Got my E4TG and had texting issues for the first day, then I was fine for a few months. Starting last Thursday, I can no longer receive texts from Sprint or any carrier, I can send fine. I reset the Airave at least 15 times and still the same issue. Sprint says that's just the way the Airavana model works and sometimes it has text problems. They can't explain why it worked fine for months and then just stopped. I am going to hook up my original Samsung Airave that only did 1x data and see if it still happens. I use wifi at home so no need for the Airvana 3G data, especially if I am going to have more texting issues.
I've had my airave since October 2011 and it's made a HUGE difference in service. I live in an area that the Sprint coverage map says has great voice and full 3G, but in actuality I can barely get 1 bar anywhere in my neighborhood, data is deplorable and, often I was roaming in my own apartment. Because of this I had to argue through 3 CS reps before they just gave me one without trying to charge the $120. I do not have it locked down to my number, and i have not noticed any issues with my internet speed - Netflix works flawlessly on my laptop and through my bluray. I have noticed that my phone will sometimes not switch over once in range and I have to toggle airplane mode to straighten it out. Frustrating, but rare.
I would like to know how one of the the previous posters was able to finagle an upgrade out of the Airave line though.

my airrave is awesome .. i had to ***** to like 3 people to get it free with no monthly payment but i finally got it . but when i leave my house i dont get the reception .. even like in my driveway so unless your in an apartment building with thin walls i dont think the reception would even reach anyone elses place
I love mine. You finally get some decent 3g speeds. I don't think you have to worry about locking it though. The range isn't that far and you have to also take into account that not everyone has a sprint phone. Plus it doesn't effect my computer speeds at home. We can have Netflix going on two computers and i can talk on the phone with no hiccups.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Where I currently live, I have decent coverage, but I wanted to have it before I moved. I REALLY hope I don't have any text issues, because that would really irritate me. As far as admin fees, I doubt I'll be charged anything. Being as that I'm a store manager, every fee so far has been waived. It also meant I was able to get my E4GT for $50 the day it came out.
I have the texting issue... they have reset the air rave continuously, replaced it twice... and it still base the same problem. Doesn't matter if I am connected to wifi or not.

The Epic 4G Touch forum, as well as the XDA site is rife with complaints about the Airave. I had it and I had the problem with handing off calls once I left its range but my kids had tons of problems with text messages queuing up. Others swear by it.
Just remember: You have to return it or they will charge you for the device. Not hard but when I returned mine they tried to charge me. I think it was $250. I kept my tracking number tho so no problem... Except for one more 30 minute to Sprint.
Do not, I repeat do not lock the airrave down so only you can use it.
This results in anyone else trying to use a sprint phone within the airraves coverage not able to get service at all.

And yet if you don't lock it down you allow anybody with Sprint service to use your internet... unlimited... unknowingly... Yeah, the last thing I want is for my wacked out neighbor downloading kiddie porn through my internet connection.

[Q] [HELP] Galaxy SIII not ringing 30-40% of time-sometimes auto answers in VM!!!

** UPDATE: Both of these problems (ringing, auto-answer @ VM) have been reproduced on my wife's phone as well... that's 3 SGIII's.
Got this phone on black Friday and am on my 2nd one already (Same exact probs with both). I have had at least 10 phones with Sprint at my current address/location (Richmond, VA) and have never had service or call issues until the GSIII. Had HTC Evo 3d before this, HTC EVO, HTC Touch, Touch Pro, Sanyo 6400, etc, etc...
I am able to reproduce a 25-35% missed call rate in which the caller goes to VM (after ringing and ringing) and my phone does not ring or notify me that a call has been missed... no indication other than a VM appears a few seconds (or minute) later... if a VM was even left.
I consistently have a 3-4 bar (84-87dBm) signal quality/strength.. and even 5 or 6 bars at times while at my location.
The next problem is that on at least 4 separate occasions a caller has called my phone, it never rings like explained above, but this time the caller hears 2-4 rings and it sounds like I pick up and answer... the caller can hear my side.. my mic.. but I have no idea they are even calling. After they are done screaming or talking at me.. I get a Voicemail of them doing so. This is the 2nd phone that is doing this, mind you.
I have searched and searched for this problem with no good results:
I HAVE DISABLED ALL AUTO ANSWER FEATURES, S Voice, and shaking gestures.. all of that. I also DO NOT use a headset in which most auto-answer threads revolve around. In short, it hasn't helped.
Both phones were stock with the Sprint OTA. Android 4.1.1, Kernel 3.0.31-329968.
I have been to the Sprint store multiple times in which they couldn't reproduce the problems.. but I was armed with a video of the call failures.. so they swapped me out to my 2nd SGSIII that hasn't performed any better. I have also been on Sprint Support chat 4-5 times now in which my network area is OKAY and have been through 3 or four factory resets and/or reprograms (Ya, I saved the MSL!) and the problems persist. Sprint is going to be sending me an Airave, but that doesn't provide any comfort that the problems will not happen in other places. Maybe a new ROM can help? Has anyone seen or reported these problems? What are the chances of having 2 bad phones exhibiting the same problem?
While this phone certainly made me cream my pants at first, now that we are married, it's like a bad hangover or something. Might have to switch back to HTC products.. never had a prob with them. This is my first posting, but I have been browsing and ROMing with XDA-Dev for like 5-6 years without an account.. it's the first thing that I can't find an answer for!
EDIT: Forgot to say that I don't have a bunch of crap installed other than the normal trusted GAPPS (No GVoice) and similar.. I'm privy to the crap out there.
Update PRL and profile, if it doesn't work ask for an airave from sprint.

Ya, updated PRL and Profile many times and had it pushed OTA by Sprint while on support chat. Have an airave coming, but going to be sending it back.. it is not isolated to my home.. so I don't need this kind of thing to happen at anytime, anywhere. I am going to be threatening with a FCC and BBB complaint citing privacy concerns to cancel my service without an ETF tomorrow morning in person at the Sprint Store. On my phone, and my wifes phone, known and unkown callers are being given a one-way "line of communication" to our phones without our knowledge instead of being directed to VM. This part of service is purely on Sprints side and has nothing to do with the phone. I suspected there were problems on my other phone before the GSIII but couldn't ever prove it and was quite a bit more sporadic than it is now. Now I have video of it happening 6 times on two different phones within a 20 minute period. Unacceptable. Off to Verizon I go after over 10 years with Sprint.

I'm having the same problem with my gs3,and my wife's gs2. Happens anywhere. No rhyme or reason. It also started happening to ore members of my family. Did everything you did. Sprint has no idea,or at least is denying any wide spread problems. Any updates or is your phone still doing this?

[Q] Charged for Malfunctioning Airave?

Has anyone been charged by Sprint for their Airave when it malfunctions? We got a free Airave a year ago due to our poor in house signal. It worked fine until about 3 weeks ago, and lights started flashing. We following tech support's instructions and they finally said it was malfunctioning and that they would send us a new one. When we got the new one (it only took about 3 days) we were to package the old one back up in the same box and send it via UPS back to them. Well, everything was fine until our last bill which showed we were being charged $125 for an Airave "Damaged Beyond Repair." Several calls have not resolved this issue as of now, but they are saying it the warehouse classified it this way, due to corrosion.

One supervisor said it was probably corrosion or liquid damage, but the waiver request came back denied without an explaination, only that it was DBR and she wouldn't or couldn't say what of the 5 items my device was classified for.

UPDATE: A call back from a different tech we talked to upchanneled the issue to his manager and that person made a decision that the charge was "unjustifiable" and gave us a $125 credit. The whole thing was weird, but now I won't going to Verizon over it after all.

Thanks for the update, put "SOLVED" in the thread title. Sucks that you had issues, Sprint reps have usually been very nice when I call, but then theres always the one a** that has to mess it up.
I would've replied to this, but I dont even have an Airave haha

Not sure if you're a new user to the Airave or not but I figured I had better share this.
Oct. 2011 my wife and I switched carriers from a local carrier to Sprint, against my better judgement. I was a long time loyal Sprint customer from 1991-2002 until the digital switch. When we signed up this time we both got the Nexus S 4g. Thank God, because the only thing that saved us was the ability to use Google Talk over Wi-Fi throughout the next period of time.
I was working out of town 5 days a week and home on weekends at the time and from October to December Sprint nearly ruined my marriage and effectually ruined my good name and the state of my account standing because they simply could not get the two devices to communicate properly. We were experiencing things like missed calls, missed texts, no notifications of either, if missed call left a voicemail we would not be notified, texts would arrive 12+ hours after they were sent and Sprint decided we needed to implement an Airave in BOTH locations to improve reception. Unfortunately getting my roommate while working to cooperate with Sprint was virtually impossible, in hindsight, I'm glad he didn't.
Sprint never disclosed that every call going through the Airave was actually changed to an Airave usage minute that came off our then small plan because we were enjoying the unlimited mobile to any mobile minutes. It didn't matter if you were calling a mobile or a Sprint mobile even... every minute through an Airave ate away at your plan minutes. Our $169.00 bill became over $1000.00 in far less than a month. The use of it did decrease our connection issues but throughout the course of troubleshooting with support, executive services and engineers we determined the reason it helped is because the Airave had a single, hardwired MSID that all calls through it used that matched the cellular number that it was assigned. Because it isn't a mobile device it's MSID didn't have to differ from it's mobile number.
Sprint reluctantly refunded the majority of the excess charges, added the unlimited calling feature to the Airave and credited us for it's addition throughout the remainder of our contract and promised not to charge us an early term fee should we decide to take our service elsewhere. From October through April 2012 each my wife and I received 2 replacement NS4G's in spite of the fact that we asked to try something different back on October 10th and was REFUSED believe it or not because of HOW our order was placed. It was a web order that required an instore reservation and for some reason the store cancelled the web order and placed an entirely new order now requiring a deposit where my web order did not. In less than a week of receiving our 3rd NSG4 each, in March of 2012 we both knew the devices still weren't working and with the help of a couple engineers within Sprint, not only did we find the problem we also determined that Sprint was unwilling to admit it and certainly unwilling to address it or repair it.
In our area, our devices have their cellular number and an MSID that differs from it. When I would place a call to my wife, my MSID would receive it's necessary approval from the DSLAM but then the DSLAM proceeded to record a second, different MSID that it randomly assigned to me, her or our communication as you would have it depending on who was initiating the call. Then when the equipment handed off the approved network communication to the receiving end, the second fictitious MSID was handed off and not the originating MSID and because it had no actual communication associated with it, it would simply not notify the receiving party of any call, text or voicemail whatsoever. Not only that, but when the receiving DSLAM received the communication, it recorded a third, altogether different MSID through some dynamic assignment I would assume.
Starting in Feb or Mar Sprint then decided we needed to try new numbers with new devices which was this 3rd NS4G, assuring us both that neither of us would lose our original number since we ported them in, never receiving the benefit of the $125.00 port in credit they claimed we received back in December. All I remembered was a $400.00 bill in December 2011. We tried it and they found even with the new numbers the same MSID issue was going on which prompted the next decision they made which included different devices.
Sprint finally decided to try different devices sending us both used Galaxy S II E4GT's that we were told would be new. By this time, I was no longer working out of town and because we were no longer away from each other and I wasn't using my phone near as much the trouble wasn't seen as often so when we got the new devices it was almost like the issue was non existent. However, the several times I did travel the issue resurfaced immediately. I video taped the opening of the "NEW" devices because they both showed up in a FedEx bubble pack flexible envelope in tiny little boxes with batteries free floating in the envelop in their own plastic bags. No chargers, no headsets, no documentation, no disk with drivers, and no retail box. Both phones had cosmetic damages that appeared to be scuffs. Nicks in the plastic cases on the edge near the glass display and when we registered them on Samsung dotcom, I was sure to use the live representative to do so to make sure it was all documented. We were assured by Samsung that we wouldn't have any trouble receiving warranty service for a year.
Still experiencing the issue with different devices, new numbers and actively engaged engineers calling us to test services we thought for sure they would finally get the issue resolved. Then the time came to put our numbers back where they belong as promised and somehow miraculously Sprint not only lost my number but they continued to hold it hostage until December 2012 when the VP of Consumer Credit was finally forced to send me a "loaner" phone with my original number on it. She agreed to create us a new account with only our two original numbers on it sour current account wouldn't make us look like credit derelicts to any representatives we talked to for any service or support but instead of honoring her agreement, less than a week later, just following Christmas, we receive a letter from Sprint Legal Department telling us we had 30 days to find another carrier since they were deciding to exercise their right to terminate our contract.
Executive services left us hanging, none of our service ever worked as expected, our bill was never repaired virtually none of their representatives were completely honest or knowledgeable and on top of all that, their executives were equally dishonest and frankly I feel damaged irreparably because that period of time I will never get back, I felt like a project manager for them every step of the way because expected call backs would almost never occur and I was constantly prodding someone to do their job in a timely fashion. Over the course of 16 months I spent over 400 hours on the phone with someone from Sprint and we shall see if the Legal department makes good on, not only repairing the account's final status or if they will decide rather to leave the account until it can be written off rather than crediting the account as it should be...
I am monitoring the reporting at the different bureaus very closely right now because if I see any notice of any delinquency I am prepared to take this even further because I am almost certain I will have no problem finding a lawyer in a defamation of character law suit.
I hope your charges don't get nearly as bad as mine did.
Good Luck.
OH, and P.S. This is for Sprint, when I finally complete the project I've been working on I am certain you, like all the other carriers and ISP's, will be interested in utilizing it's functionality because it, if as effective as I think it will be, will reduce network congestion by over 90% by changing the way transferred data is perceived by routing and switching equipment along the path. Don't think you will receive any consideration whatsoever.
I just had the same issue. Took 4 calls to get a new unit, and once I did I thought I was OK. Well my bill showing 300 plus owed said another. Called sprint, guy said it was because I had an innactive unit that I was being charged for it. As last long ad I sent it back I would not be charged, per the rep. It has been a week since I sent it back and still looking for the charge to be removed.

WOW! I was going to put [SOLVED] in this post header, but maybe I won't now after some of the other comments that had unresolved issues. Very similar. No call backs...I had to call back each day they told me a call was scheduled (and none came). But for the work of one young service rep named James, who IS a concerned and valuable agent, I would have been stuck with that charge and as of today probably would have been a Verizon customer. Note, he missed a call back due to a family emergency. My wife wrote Mr Hesse a 2 page letter (no idea if he will get it) describing this poor situation, but praising the work of young James and his manager in keeping us.
On the subject of the minutes being used by Airave, I haven't noticed that because we have land lines and don't run up cell minutes at home, but I'll be watching that now because I was unaware of that.
