Just to confirm, that I have DSP Manager and the CM7 Music player on my SGSII and the audio output difference is Amazing. A lot more bass, louder and even clearer than stock.
if you like your audio, it's highly recommended you do it

I've attached the files that I've tested as working below.
Instructions - Root explorer (Requires root)
copy both the files to your SD Card (DSPmanager.apk and music.apk)
1.Load Root Explorer. Go into System -> apps
2.Scroll down till you see the music player.apk file.
3.Select and hold down until a pop up appears.
4.Select "Rename"". Add .bak to the file, so it reads music player.apk.bak.
5.Select the file again as above, but now select move.
6.Press the back key until you go back to the system root (/) and then go go the SDcard folder.
7.Select Paste. You now have your original player backed up and safe if you wish to revert.
8.Now install the Music.apk.
9.Now install DSPmanager.apk.
Voila!!!
If you prefer ADB, then you know what you're doing i'm sure!
If this post is helpful to you, don't forget to hit the "thanks" button .

I do not have my SGSII yet, but can you tell me how to port the CM Music Player on the SGSII? Where is it to find? I know it's from the CyanogenMod's, but not sure from which ROM you downloaded it of copied it.

Great thanks for the fast reply! I am definitely going to download this when I have the phone, because sound is really important!
Thanks for that version of DSP, the one I had tried earlier didn't work for me, this one does though.

No probs mate. It may have been the fact the stock music player doesn't support it, as it has it's own equalizer which overrides DSP. Howver, this music player does and it has a better display for artists, albums etc.
Awesome.... .
This isn't working for me? moved the file, installed the new one but there is no music icon in applications also it doesn't show up in the app folder with root explorer? copied the original one back, still not showing up in apps? so have no music app now and no way to launch the original music application.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
EDIT: rebooted and now the orginal is back on,
So the files I have in the app folder that relate to the music app are,
MusicHub_U1.apk
MusicPlayer.apk
MusicPlayer.odex
When I move the MusicPlayer.apk and install the Music.apk all there is in that folder even after reboot is,
MusicHub_U1.apk
MusicPlayer.odex
No sign of your Music.apk? even though it says installed ok over system file
You need to move the .odex too and then put music.apk in system/app then click on it to install. If thats done, your good to go.

The problem was I was just installing the app like normal, the dsp one installed but the music one didn't, like you say I had to copy it into the app folder and then install from there.
Works a treat, need to mess with the dsp setting now.
Thanks a bunch mate.
The problem with that is DSP often does not work unless you "wake" the app everytime by launching it.
i find the Player Pro fantastic, but I must say compared the my Desire, the SGS2 music app better in terms of sound quality, but it'a shame this is no shuffle option.
What settings you use in dsp mate?
I've uninstalled DSP, as like the other poster said I think you need to have it running to take effect, but I prefer the music app because of he widget and also the fact that it uses less ram than the stock Samsung one.
Also I've noticed that my phone is using around 20 to 30 mb less ram now the Samsung music app has been replaced even when it's not running the phone is defiantly using a lot less ram now? not sure why? maybe the Samsung apps use a lot of resources as I know my battery life went way up after removing the Social hub.
I'm pleased at the moment anyway, using less ram, widget and a fine music app.
EDIT: my phone is running at 140mb ram used atm, thats down from a average of 190 200mb before the music app was replaced and I haven't stopped anything else, all the same things are running. A bit new to Android so may be it variates a lot but it hasn't gone that low before.
All its done for me is to lose all my album art .
All back as soon as i replace with standard music apk.

Thats very odd....
If your album art was in your music folders, that honestly doesnt make any sense!
If anything, this music app takes advantage of album art more than the default one, as it acts as a background when viewing that particular album.
As for the process having to be running, if thats the case then i imagine this is the same on all CM7 builds.
Firing it up before listening to music seems worth it to gain the audio quality...but each to their own!

Adjusted the audio quality but slight Bass distorted music and nothing else did much .
Must try with my MixZing music player .
Sound quality on stock music and stock headphones i thought very good anyway .

I want to go back to the samsung music player app...I put everything back in its proper place but when I try to install the samsung music player it says that it can't be installed...
Any thoughts on what I can do?
Make sure you've fully un-installed the CM7 music app via manage applications, delete music.apk and re-locate and re-install the stock one.
Works fine on mine when testing for you.

Hey all. First I will say that I am NOT the creator of this app, nor do I have anything to do with its development. I am simply sharing it since I found a topic on it on the general Android app forums on XDA and have come to love it IMMENSELY.
Features:
-FULL 10-band Equalizer
-Preamp
-BEAUTIFUL and RESPONSIVE clean interface
-Swipe support for changing songs with impressive 3D animation
-Support of just about EVERY music format known to man WITH equalizer and preamp support on all
-Folders as PLAYLISTs support
-Pretty widget
-Easy to navigate, FAST
Did I mention that if you use it on a Galaxy S device, it can sound VERY VERY impressive due to the Galaxy S having a really high-end sound chip (either the best or one of the best on the market currently). To boost the volume use it in conjunction with Audioboost based on supercurio's audio fix. You can find Audioboost on the market or somewhere on the XDA forums.

Woah, I love it. Proper playlist recognition as well so now I can use my playlist files again.
Great software, but people throw around "best music player on Android" too often without realising that it may be only be the best for their use.
I prefer WinAmp for my use for a number of reasons:
- I don't use an EQ, the GS has perfect sound reproduction, so its really not neccessary
- folder play is irrelevant to me since I have a properly tagged music collection
- WinAmps widget is better IMO, and lockscreen widget control is nice
- PowerAmp lacks LastFM scrobbling
(WinAmp also supports playlists, which is indeed nice, hopefully one of these two will support browsing/playing by Genre soon, but for the meantime I have playlists for each genre as a workaround)
Thanks for recomending PowerAmp!
Top player very easy to use and nice interface, i had to look for a new one as Player Pro started giving me lagging headaches, too bad i cant refund now
+1 if it can be used to equalize ringtone as well~~~
nice, but still prefer winamp because of one thing: playlist sync.
i don't wanna have to make my playlists on my phone. i'd rather make them on my pc and sync them to my phone.
hope the dev integrates that function, and i'll switch.
installed the app to check it out and it's reading the playlists from the music i synchronized with winamp. looks like i'm switching after all.
Song lyrics
Is there (or will be) any built-in function to search lyrics?
Alternatively, how can I display lyrics file (.lrc) into the application?
Great application, anyway.
This app is specifically listed as supporting WMA files, but it does not Does anyone know of a good music player that actually plays wma files?
new build available with lots more features added including more widgets, lockscreen widget, skip control from wired mic button etc....
New build 113 definitely is nice.
too bad this version will expire in a couple of weeks.
And strange, most (but not all) of the album arts (I named them AlbumArt.jpg) are not showing on the play screen in this built. build 68 worked just fine.
anyone got similar experience?
any solutions?
i already tried "clear albumart cache and reload media"
Sound @ max realy sucks bigtime, really don't get it i didn't even use a EQ but the basses where destroyed and even if i turned down my carradio the basses still sucked so the phone just destroys it... (3 days ago, uninstalled immidiatly because i ain't gonna listen to **** )... It almost looks like the sound @ max in powerAMP is equell to 200% the loudness of stock player. really annoying!
Wil try i later on maybe it was a bug but i got it and my roommate with his Desire had it to
The app is very nice, with the right settings it gives a great sound quality.
jaapschaap - you have to adjust to Bass Tone it gives too much bass, try my settings, but don`t change the volume from the app button, it has a bug, when you touch it it increases the bass tone to max although the bass tone button stays in the same place, you have to touch the tone button in order to restore it.

Grumble grumble, doesn't the DAC inside the galaxy s have a hardware EQ? Is there any software available that actually uses it, not just software EQ?
Its supposed to be a five band parametric, if my memory serves me correctly.
I am using powerAMP to listen music. When i want to change next song with my bluetooth earphones, Musicplayerpro appears and both of the two players begin to play. if i uninstall musicplayerpro it is okay but i want to keep both players in my phone.
When I reconnect my headset the app automatically launches, Is there a way to prevent this ? I dont want unecessary applications launching automatically and wasting resources/battery

Find the option in Musicplayerpro to turn headset controls on/off and turn it off. With Android it appears that you have to turn headset controls off for all music players except the one you want active otherwise you'll get the behavior you described.

The only options we have there is pause when disconnected or resume when disconnect, theres no option that says dont auto launch the app.
Build 204 (available in Market) has the option to "Resume on Headset Connect".
I love MIUI, and the ROM is incredible, but I cannot beat Cyanogen's battery life and smoothness, so I had to go back. Currently running 7.1 RC1, but the one thing I loved about MIUI was their music player. Is there a way to flash just the music player onto CM7?
Save this to your SD card then browse to it using the file explorer program of your choice and install.. This player is my favorite as well Enjoy!
By the way.. this is a custom blue theme to this player.. I'll post the normal black version below.

You have to push it to /system/app. The blue one is probably signed.
How old is that APK? Because a few weeks ago, MIUI added an equalizer to their player. If this one doesn't have an equalizer, let me know, and I'll post the newest one for you.

I actually pulled that one from the latest 1.71 rom. The problem is most likely permissions. You will probably have to copy it to System\Apps and overwrite the existing one.. Then long press on it and make sure it has all selected except the bottom middle.. Like this:

After that reboot and you should be good.
I agree on the music player. I've been using it on every ROM I've had in place of the stock player since lie, February.
But I've been using the oldest one, so I'd be grateful for an updated version!

If you use Root Explorer, don't forget to mount r/o before you do this
EDIT: Using the black one, copied to sd card, uninstalled the old MIUI PLayer, rebooted, then used root explorer to copy to system/apps/, changed permissions, rebooted, got a FC when I tried to open it....

When you're playing a song, tap the album art, and you should see a box with an orange line in the top center below the time slider. Just tap it, and the equalizer options will pop up.
Edit: pic for clarity. Ignore the album art. The song playing is definitely not on a "Now" album. The player downloaded it before I remembered to turn off the Download Album Art toggle, and every time I delete it, it comes back. I can't find the source image.

1.MIUI Gallery and Camera
I just tested the MIUI Gallery and Camera in the cyanogenmod forum found here.Found out they work on our phone too.The camera has some cool options.
So I made a cwm flashable zip for our device. I hope it is useful.
Bugs-Camera force closes on choosing color effect.
HOW TO APPLY-
Download the cwm flashable zip.
Install the flashable zip directly via cwm manager or by cwm recovery mode choosing install from zip option.
2.MIUI Music Player
I also found the latest miui music player here courtsey droiduniverse.
Consegregate had posted an older modded version of the player here
The newer one has some more features and is more responsive and also works on all devices. So I decided to share it in case anyone finds it useful. Here is the link

Damn ... if it had also incorporated that into the music player .. then it could have become the the best music player for ace as it comes really close to the galaxy S player .... alas ... but i think it doesnt incorporate due to the fact that is made for MIUI ROM ... in which it automatically becomes the system player to control the headset .. aneways .. is there any blog over which i can suggest this change to the developer ????

Thanks for the DSP Manager links! I have been using Equalizer for months but decided to test DSP manager now, and it really rocks! I like that it is a system app as well and that it works for all players. I use Spotify, Google Music, and Pocket Casts, so I need an equalizer that works for several music players. Equalizer would sometimes not work perfectly, but DSP Manager seems solid!
Dsp all the way. I used to use power amp and never cared much for dsp but the Apollo / dsp combo is fantastic.

I do however keep the EQ turned off. The Klipsch S4 sound great with the GNex set flat.

i use volume+ and it's working fine on my GN.
wow looks like im the only person thus far that uses Equalizer your missing out
DSP manger FTW
Surprised volume + isn't on this list. It makes the speaker sound way better and twice as loud. But if I was to pick from op's list I would say equalizer.
I personally get better sound using poweramp. And I love the player because it actually shows the right album art.

Hi phone_user,
I agree 100%,Volume+ in first then Equalizer since it's on the list
And probably it's ridiculous but Volume+:75Ko/Equalizer:2,1M... and more RAM used just for a sound app(ok more features than Volume+ like widgets).
But since this thread is not a comparo between Volume+ and....I choose Equalizer.
You should have done a poll
I don't really use a music effects app, because honestly I don't know what their potential is... never really played around. But does it make that much of a difference (i.e. better music quality)? If so, which app and settings do you recommend? Screenies w/ setup please.

It does help quite a bit. I notice the stock audio sounds so flat and dull... with equalizer I up the treble and bass cuz it also lacks the thump I like. I listen to a lot of metal and sub genres of that...(metalcore, Hardcore, etc) so the higher treble sounds nice. Here is where my equalizer is at. The treble is a tad high but you can always lower it to your liking. I have the same "v" shape on my laptop with beats audio.

I am posting the link because BigSplit is an awesome Dev and his work gets overlooked because he is on the EVO Shift (my old device). He added "tab visibility" to the settings of Apollo. Check it out:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2151415
And don't forget to thank BigSplit!

Very cool, I can't wait to see what else he does with it... I've always thought Apollo could use some revamping.

Oh snap:thumbup:
Latest version works with themes. The black theme looks amazing! Also if you have the walkman installed with clear bass equalizer and you install this Apollo, when you select equalizer in apollomod it goes straight to the walkman equalizer and it actually works!
Apollomod plus clear bass equalizer equals PERFECTION!

+1, the best music app for AOSP in my opinion. Thanks BigSplit.
Btw this also works with TW not just aosp. You have to use the version without the visualizer but it works great.

Sweet, the only qualm I have with Apollo (no fault of BigSplit) and actually every AOSP music app.. is the lack of .aac support. The only music players that I have come across that play all my music are the stock TouchWiz and stock Sense music players... half my music is compressed into .aac format. Maybe I should suck it up and buy a 32gb and switch everything back into .mp3, but I don't want to... it's a pain in the arse to convert that many files.
Ahh yeah that's understandable. I'm old school and just a few months ago finally got around to taking my giant CD case and ripping it all to mp3's. Not even familiar with other audio formats. My external SD is dedicated to music storage.
I'd like to actually switch to the cloud thing but sprint is so bad here that streaming my music is next to impossible.

You could try this when you get a bigger SD.

Same here with the external sd for music only(basically, I keep a couple nands on there just in case). Ditto to the music cloud too, never would work for me, my main music time is driving. aac format is about 1/3 to 1/4 the size of an mp3 (depending on the song), which equals more music on my sd, I've got 10 gbs of music on there now (and it's compressed). I need to go back and rip all my cds again (I haven't used them in so long, maybe I can just pull the mp3s that way instead of reconverting)... computer crashed and I lost everything (really long story)... I use MediaCoder on the computer, lots faster... I use the app if I just wanna do one. Pretty cool the stuff you can do. You can turn a pdf into an e-book! Switch video formats, really cool stuff once you learn how it works. I never knew there were so many file formats... it's crazy.
