Hey all. First I will say that I am NOT the creator of this app, nor do I have anything to do with its development. I am simply sharing it since I found a topic on it on the general Android app forums on XDA and have come to love it IMMENSELY.
Features:
-FULL 10-band Equalizer
-Preamp
-BEAUTIFUL and RESPONSIVE clean interface
-Swipe support for changing songs with impressive 3D animation
-Support of just about EVERY music format known to man WITH equalizer and preamp support on all
-Folders as PLAYLISTs support
-Pretty widget
-Easy to navigate, FAST
Did I mention that if you use it on a Galaxy S device, it can sound VERY VERY impressive due to the Galaxy S having a really high-end sound chip (either the best or one of the best on the market currently). To boost the volume use it in conjunction with Audioboost based on supercurio's audio fix. You can find Audioboost on the market or somewhere on the XDA forums.

Woah, I love it. Proper playlist recognition as well so now I can use my playlist files again.
Great software, but people throw around "best music player on Android" too often without realising that it may be only be the best for their use.
I prefer WinAmp for my use for a number of reasons:
- I don't use an EQ, the GS has perfect sound reproduction, so its really not neccessary
- folder play is irrelevant to me since I have a properly tagged music collection
- WinAmps widget is better IMO, and lockscreen widget control is nice
- PowerAmp lacks LastFM scrobbling
(WinAmp also supports playlists, which is indeed nice, hopefully one of these two will support browsing/playing by Genre soon, but for the meantime I have playlists for each genre as a workaround)
Thanks for recomending PowerAmp!
Top player very easy to use and nice interface, i had to look for a new one as Player Pro started giving me lagging headaches, too bad i cant refund now
+1 if it can be used to equalize ringtone as well~~~
nice, but still prefer winamp because of one thing: playlist sync.
i don't wanna have to make my playlists on my phone. i'd rather make them on my pc and sync them to my phone.
hope the dev integrates that function, and i'll switch.
installed the app to check it out and it's reading the playlists from the music i synchronized with winamp. looks like i'm switching after all.
Song lyrics
Is there (or will be) any built-in function to search lyrics?
Alternatively, how can I display lyrics file (.lrc) into the application?
Great application, anyway.
This app is specifically listed as supporting WMA files, but it does not Does anyone know of a good music player that actually plays wma files?
new build available with lots more features added including more widgets, lockscreen widget, skip control from wired mic button etc....
New build 113 definitely is nice.
too bad this version will expire in a couple of weeks.
And strange, most (but not all) of the album arts (I named them AlbumArt.jpg) are not showing on the play screen in this built. build 68 worked just fine.
anyone got similar experience?
any solutions?
i already tried "clear albumart cache and reload media"
Sound @ max realy sucks bigtime, really don't get it i didn't even use a EQ but the basses where destroyed and even if i turned down my carradio the basses still sucked so the phone just destroys it... (3 days ago, uninstalled immidiatly because i ain't gonna listen to **** )... It almost looks like the sound @ max in powerAMP is equell to 200% the loudness of stock player. really annoying!
Wil try i later on maybe it was a bug but i got it and my roommate with his Desire had it to
The app is very nice, with the right settings it gives a great sound quality.
jaapschaap - you have to adjust to Bass Tone it gives too much bass, try my settings, but don`t change the volume from the app button, it has a bug, when you touch it it increases the bass tone to max although the bass tone button stays in the same place, you have to touch the tone button in order to restore it.

Lol that's crazy nut true i quess I will try later because i like an EQ and the resume on mini-jack connect...
Hope the bug will be fixed soon!
Thanks for the info...
Grumble grumble, doesn't the DAC inside the galaxy s have a hardware EQ? Is there any software available that actually uses it, not just software EQ?
Its supposed to be a five band parametric, if my memory serves me correctly.
I am using powerAMP to listen music. When i want to change next song with my bluetooth earphones, Musicplayerpro appears and both of the two players begin to play. if i uninstall musicplayerpro it is okay but i want to keep both players in my phone.
When I reconnect my headset the app automatically launches, Is there a way to prevent this ? I dont want unecessary applications launching automatically and wasting resources/battery

I believe you can change that in the settings for PowerAMP (under Headset Options).

Find the option in Musicplayerpro to turn headset controls on/off and turn it off. With Android it appears that you have to turn headset controls off for all music players except the one you want active otherwise you'll get the behavior you described.

The only options we have there is pause when disconnected or resume when disconnect, theres no option that says dont auto launch the app.
Build 204 (available in Market) has the option to "Resume on Headset Connect".

I've just bought the fab iTech BlueBAND set of bluetooth headphones, and have got them working with my JAM with the new BT stack plugin.
The quality is a bit dodgy though...
I know the popup message says it's streaming at 192Kb/s, but while most of my songs are encoded at 160Kb/s (which sounds relatively great on wired headphones), the higher frequencies in particular have a lot of static-like distortion through the headset. It's not unlistenable, but not really that good either. It is digital after all! So I'd expect it to either play perfectly or cut out completely.
Does anyone know if there are any reg settings to fix this? Or does anyone else use the same or other headsets and experience distortion?
Please let me know,
Cheers,
Joe
Your issue is not limited to the phone, it appears to be an input clipping issue with the BT A2DP input. It's touchy.
Right now, I'm listening to 192kbps mp3s out of my computer with a Macsense BT-100 (Class 2, v1.2, USB2.0) running the BlueSoleil 1.6 BT stack, and a pair of the new Moto HT820s, and I get that "crunchy" high end like you're describing (or at least what I think you're describing). The only way I've found to correct this, is to lower the actual input to the BT. Not sure how you can go about that with your setup offhand, but with Windows it's just tweaking the Wave volume down a little bit.
Hope this info has been of some usage to you or anyone else having this issue. Oh and I was having the issue with the HT820s and a co-worker's Bluetake BT009x (Another Class 2, v1.2, USB2.0). Again, resolution was turning down the Wave on them, and I was all set to go.
Just a fun off-topic sidenote: The HT820s with a BT adapter running the BlueSoleil stack, allows control of winamp's next track, previous track, pause, and play functions using the right earpeice's multifunction and skip buttons.
EDIT: Wave @ 50% and the crunchy sound is gone except where expected with clipping from far far too much audio being mashed together.
Thanks for your idea, looks like we need to just find a way to lower the output volume from the streaming software to the headset.
Does anyone know if this is possible through a regedit or anything?
I'm also looking for a program that will toggle the 'stream audio to bluetooth headset' in the stack extension. Then I could create a shortcut to it for wisbar desktop like with the CicleBT program.
I'm aware that viJay has made software that does this for WM5 but not for the magician's cambridge A2DP extension.
Hope that made sense!
Send me over a copy of the software/stack and I'll try to look into it, if you've got it at hand.
V
Good news...
I switched BT adapters, I got my ISSC adapter in the mail today and have been putzing around with it at work and at home, and found this out. It works great, has great distance (I got 30m out of it with a wall between myself and it, and it's only marked for 10, while the CSR adapter that I had before was marked at 20, and couldn't even go that far without breaking up to almost nothing in line of sight.), and isn't crunchy with the high-end on the audio! Maybe you can check your XDA and see what chipset it uses, and possibly opt for an ISSC based one instead of CSR-based? Better yet, i'm going to start a new thread asking people to post up the chipsets in their XDAs and other BT devices so I can compile a list of chipsets and how well they work with certain data-intensive protocols such as A2DP and File Transfer.
More info: CSR stands for Cambride Silicon Radio, and ISSC stands for Integrated System Solution Corp.
That's interesting!
I've managed to get about 15m distance with line of sight between my Jam and iTech headset, but only about 8m with walls and floor between them.
I suppose this tells us that it's either the chipset itself or the coding of the stack that is affecting the quality/volume and causing the clipping.
As I use Wisbar Desktop I didn't like permanently having the notification icon displayed so i renamed the btAVPgui (cant remember exact name of the exe) in the windows directory to get rid of that popup interface. Now I just turn the streaming on and off in bluetooth settings. Hopefully vijay will find a way to create a shortcut for that!
I'll be looking at it ASAP - still updating old stuff though, but I'm working on some very funky new stuff too, and Mrs Vijay555 is limiting me to 30 mins a night (programming, not other stuff!)
V
Cool, thanks.
I have some programming knowledge so if there's any pointers you could give me to figure it out myself, please pm me!
Those cold walks to college every morning are much more fun if I don't have to take my gloves off to get my music playing!
joehood:
What does the screen look like? You said there's a bubble in the bar at the top?
Frankly, the easiest way to tap it would be to use a Mort script. I have one set up to control the volume - just emulate a click on the top bar, eg (180,5) will approximately hit the volume icon (from memory only!). Set this up with a shortcut, and to quote futurama, "Pow".
Forgive the old screenshot, I'm at work:

Icon in claunch near bottom left will click the volume icon and permit use of the dpad to control the volume. No screen taps required.
Could you do the same for your bluetooth?
Either way, a programatic solution would be nicest, but hard work, no doubt. But I'll try to investigate.

OK I have the exe that creates that popup notification with the button to enable or disable A2DP streaming depending on its current status. Is there any way I can find out how it's changing the status? I've looked for a registry setting but couldn't find anything. Where else would the setting be stored?
I am amazing I am amazing...............etc
Woohoo!
I've done it!
It was a regkey after all. Found it by looking through the .unload file that CSR create in the windows dir.
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev
Then 'streamOn' is obviously activating streaming
'automute' self-explanitory
and I'm guessing showConnStatus controls the status notification.
Now... is there an easy way to create a programe which toggles the registry value? Please let me know how to programme changing DWORD values.
joehood: these things aren't usualy just a registry entry, but certainly could be.
I think mortscript can change registry entries. Try that first, and if it does or doesn't work, we can consider writing an app to do the switching if necessary.
V
I just got home and wasn't thinking when i wrote the first post, now to edit it and make myself look a lot smarter.
On windows, there is default support for .REG files that integrate into the registry and make changes on the fly based on the contents of the file.
Example:
Filename: ShowConn.reg
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev]
streamOn=DWORD:00000001
automute=DWORD:00000001
showConnStatus=DWORD:00000001
When this is run, it should set streamOn to on, automute on, and show connection status to on. Make another like this with the name HideConn.reg and change showConnStatus=DWORD:00000001 to DWORD:00000000 and that should turn it off. Just run whichever one, keep them in a folder and keep a shortcut, have fun switchin.
Of course! haha
I did write a little mortscript file for it last night anyway, this one toggles it on or off, but doesn't change the show connection status or automute values. Personally I hide the notifications icon in wisbar because it was permanently there before. I'm using btp_audio_ui again to confirm that files are streaming, but currently have no way of telling the status of A2DP without trying to make a sound.
I didn't bother putting the automute function in because I leave it on permanently, no need to have both sound sources really.
I'm getting VS2005 so I can have a play, will try to design a bluetooth manager program which has large fancy buttons for turning on/off the most useful functions.
The more we can get these things performing like real phones the better!
Next step: to find out how to play WMV audio through A2DP!
joehood: are the registry changes dynamic? Ie, when you incorporate your defined registry settings, the streaming/mute etc happens immediately?
V
yep!
Cool. I guess I can build them into VJVolubilis as well if you want.
If you've got a bunch of them together, PM them over.
V
Can anyone send me a bt stack with stereo support, recived my plantronics 590a today. Thanks
Oy...
Get BlueSoleil, make a new thread or search the forums next time though. I'm almost ready with my thread I hope to get Stickied with info on the software and chipsets for bluetooth.
So what you are sayin is that BlueSoleil works with WM5 to get stereo or what?
It seems that I've found the perfect combination of eq settings to help improve sound quality. The issues most face with the standard music player configuration is having to put up with tinny sounds and a flat soundstage which simply put - degrades your sound! And most become oblivious to the low quality sound over time. How horrible! But with a few changes sound can be clearer and after applying these tweaks, you will certainly hear the difference. With a few settings taken from here and there at xda and blended together and tweaked, my music played via the galaxy s2 really does now sound alot better.. A result of a clearer low end, no apparent distortion at max volume (and oh boy is it louder, thanks to volume+) , a more apparent seperation between the mid ranges/highs.. For once there's a distinction in the music and the separation of sounds can be heard rather than the usual muffle. I've tested this combination of apps/settings with both high quality flac files and 256kbps mp3s and it certainly brings out the colour in each song. I produce/compose film/trance music so I'd like to think I've a good ear.
Right, where do I begin.?
You will need 3 apps - Power amp, Equalizer and Volume +, installed to begin. Each application is free. The purpose of each app is as follows.
Poweramp - A top music player with eq functionality
Equalizer - To further enhance eq levels
Volume+ - To give the sound more legroom and boost sound levels
Power amp - http://market.android.com/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Equalizer - http://market.android.com/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.equalizer
Volume + - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=645858&d=1309854453
Simply apply the settings as shown in the below screenshots.. Follow exactly for best result.
Poweramp -

}
Equalizer -
Volume+ -
If you find the highs a tad too sharp, drop the treble slightly in Poweramp.
To achieve a deeper bass, in volume+, set the bass to +5 but try not to go much higher as the sound quality will impair.
To higher the volume use Poweramp and higher the amp slider by a tiny amount and to avoid distortion do not let it go past the midway mark.
Drop the 8k slider down in poweramp to help reduce the sharp frequencies, which can hurt the ears sometimes running at a high volume. If using external speakers rather than headphones, these settings may push the sound to distortion, so be sure to set volume+ to external speaker mode for best possible effect.
Currently using Volume+ may lead to fc's when making a call, even though the fc occurs, the effect of Volume+ should still be active, currently theres no workaround as i'm aware.
If you believe you've found an even better combination of settings then please share! Just remember to post which earphones/headphones you're using.
Update : download "audioboost sgs2" from the market and set the desired volume level to around "82" for a cleaner amplified sound, this works better than volume+ for most people.
Please give feedback whether or not these settings work well with your headset.
.. Edited..

good job. Sound good now. Since my Shure headphones are capable of making deep base and mid base, i increased the Bass in Poweramp to the 3 o'clock position instead of your at 12 o'clock, and Also 5+ in bass in Volume+
Bass UGH UGH UGH .

Wow, nice guide, now my phone sound better then before!!
I like the effect this combination gives.
BUT I have major issue with Volume+ and not sure whats the reason for it. It crashes once I plug in my headset.
using PowerAMP + Eq + VolumePlus
it looks like a conflict between Equalizer and Volume+
anyone having similar issues?
yeah, it happen to me too, but mine was when i am dialing someone and when its connected then the error will appear(happen once in a while) but i just press the force close its still able to connect but its not a major problem for me as its still work its just annoying

Untick Resume/Pause on headset disconnection/connection in Poweramp headset options.
Already tested it - pausing or resuming setting off doesnt affect it. Another thing is volume+ will crash when changing settings while the Eqalizer preset is enabled. Preset disabled - everything works fine...

Tweaks work great thanks! Not quite as nice as my Galaxy Tab with Voodoo but SGS2 sounds definitely less flat and less muddy. Volume+ doesn't seem to actually do anything though to sound quality so I might just ditch that.
this setting wont work nice when i plug in an external Bose speakers... Bose speakers suck with builtin preamp and low bass output power. I changed to "external speaker" preset in the equalizer and it works great!
Hi,
testing now
I find Volume+ does not make a big diff
Having a good sound is not an easy one on that device,
Thank you for sharing your findings
I used to configure only PowerAmp - my best music player ever !
Adding a little tast of "equalizer" seems to provide something better
Will continue listening an see

Thanks for the DSP Manager links! I have been using Equalizer for months but decided to test DSP manager now, and it really rocks! I like that it is a system app as well and that it works for all players. I use Spotify, Google Music, and Pocket Casts, so I need an equalizer that works for several music players. Equalizer would sometimes not work perfectly, but DSP Manager seems solid!
Dsp all the way. I used to use power amp and never cared much for dsp but the Apollo / dsp combo is fantastic.

i use volume+ and it's working fine on my GN.

DSP manger FTW
Surprised volume + isn't on this list. It makes the speaker sound way better and twice as loud. But if I was to pick from op's list I would say equalizer.
I personally get better sound using poweramp. And I love the player because it actually shows the right album art.

Hi phone_user,
I agree 100%,Volume+ in first then Equalizer since it's on the list
And probably it's ridiculous but Volume+:75Ko/Equalizer:2,1M... and more RAM used just for a sound app(ok more features than Volume+ like widgets).
But since this thread is not a comparo between Volume+ and....I choose Equalizer.
You should have done a poll
I don't really use a music effects app, because honestly I don't know what their potential is... never really played around. But does it make that much of a difference (i.e. better music quality)? If so, which app and settings do you recommend? Screenies w/ setup please.

It does help quite a bit. I notice the stock audio sounds so flat and dull... with equalizer I up the treble and bass cuz it also lacks the thump I like. I listen to a lot of metal and sub genres of that...(metalcore, Hardcore, etc) so the higher treble sounds nice. Here is where my equalizer is at. The treble is a tad high but you can always lower it to your liking. I have the same "v" shape on my laptop with beats audio.

Just wondering which streaming service you guys are using on this phone and why. I have had GPM for years, I was expecting it to be a little smoother and better integrated into the Android ecosystem at this point. The app still feels clunky.
That being said, I was wondering what you all were using on this phone.

GPM over Spotify due to integration of the Google ecosystem. I feel GPM plays more variety per station versus Spotify whereas Pandora plays most variety.
I personally use Pandora, especially when it's the grandfather of music streaming that was formulated by the Music Genome Project.
I have Spotify Premium. Gave GPM a shot and didn't like it much in comparison to Spotify.
I prefer the Spotify app better, but the ad-free YouTube is why I subscribed to GPM

Just wondering which streaming service you guys are using on this phone and why. I have had GPM for years, I was expecting it to be a little smoother and better integrated into the Android ecosystem at this point. The app still feels clunky.
That being said, I was wondering what you all were using on this phone.

GPM is going away. So I would not put any effort into it if you are not already on it. Which I am. It's all going YouTube Music and our playlists won't transfer.
I'm a Spotify premium user and I love his audio quality

I find that Spotify is best for discovering new music. It makes really great suggestions based on your listening history. I've found a few bands I really love now because of it. I tried GPM for a bit, but it is clunky and doesn't really suggest what I'm into. The playlists aren't nearly as good either imo.

It is not going away until all of us who are on GPM are migrated over to YouTube music. We lose no functionality and it'll be business as usual.
I much prefer spotfiy overall. Weirdly enough the sound is a bit louder through GPM, not necessarily better. I find the UI a bit annoying and clunky on GPM. each time I try it I always end up back on Spotify
Spotify
I like GPM's ability to upload music but it seems clunky and I find artist discovery much better. As for Apple Music, it too has music upload and even lyrics support but I hate the UI and it crashed too often for my liking.
I feel that spotify is the better application. The search algorithms are spot on and new unknown music is way better.
That being said I am on-board with GPM for the previously stated integrations and YT Premium.

You can make the sound a little louder for Spotify in its settings.

Google Play Music because I was an early adopter for $8 and got grandfathered into YouTube Red now Premium. Plus being able to upload my own collection, especially DJ mix CDs, was a nice plus.

I use GPM since I started using it first + I also get no-ads youtube. That is a very important thing for me.
but, on the other hand, Spotify had better music quality. I tested same tracks on both Spotify and GPM. Spotify was much better.
And Spotify had more tracks that I listened to! For example, there is no Hotel California on GPM!

I had an ad free 3 month trial for YouTube and must say I really liked having it. There's a magisk module that unlocks it without a monthly premium
I think I'm sticking with GPM for now only because I've got the grandfather 7.99, and I've put so much into all my playlists and things, although the second they switch over to that YouTube crap, I'm moving to Spotify I think.
I agree it's a better interface.
I like Spotify even though it was a little more expensive than GPM when I signed up. There are a couple of things I think Spotify has to improve, at least for my preferences. Their shuffle mode is very weak. There is a lot of discussion on their forums about this for a couple of years now but no change. Also they are a bit behind the times on the number of devices that can stream at once.
I'm in the process of evaluating GPM (incl youtube premium trail), like it so far.
Spotify is usable but i have a few issues with it and dubbed it Stopify, it just stops playing at random occurrences, at home, in the car,... but not just on my pixel 2xl (oreo/pie), also my wife's Sony xz2 (oreo).
The only problem I have with GPM (and is actually not a GPM issue) is that i can't cast directly to my Bose soundtouch 300 soundbar, it doesn't support Google Cast, all my inputs are occupied, work around: turn on the tv and play via chromecast.
Best feature of GPM I think is the personalisation of the smart playlists, and mostly comes to the ability to down- or up-vote a track
Does anyone face issues with low volume or lack of audio quality when using android auto?
I mean sound is ok, but its not as loud as other devices i used with AA.
I have tried the internal equalizer and dolby atmos, it helps a little but still not the same.
I have also tried the app EqualizerFX and so far seems better but not 100%.
Do you use any other method or app for this.
I am on the brink of rooting and going for Viper, but thats my last resort
i use poweramp pro ... it boost volume and bass for my buds - works a treat and it downloads the album art and instantly adds it to the track - quite nice

Yep poweramp pro works like a treat for local files.
but do still run into the issue for streaming apps like Spotify, GoogleMusic or Tidal
Have you upted the Bluetooth setting to loud.
In the media playback mode goto setting / sound setup/volume setup/Bluetooth audio.
Makes a huge difference on mine when using amazon music etc......

that doesnt exsist on the A70 - not mine anyway
Try developer options/disable absolute volume (on) then increase volume via phone and also the bluetooth device volume up button

No, it's not on the phone. It's in the Head unit settings....
I ended up rooting and using V4A, sound is full and sounding nice now. (although now with root i have google pay issues - but i guess i use audio more often than gpay)
On stock no matter what i tried the sound was just dull.

1. Bluetooth on the phone has its own volume setting, I hope you pressed that volume up button on the phone, then said "OK" to earpiercing warning, and then pressed volume button up again until you reached max
2. Dullness of sound cannot be cured with any settings on the phone - in Bluetooth original data just streamed to the car (being compressed/decompressed along the way)
3. You can still play with audio setting to affect headphone jack quality - it helped me.

yes i know that.and yes that was basically the first thing i did.
and btw this issue with Android auto is not to do with bluetooth or jack.. it uses usb dac to stream auto and control to the AA interface.
anyways, as said Viper4Android sorted my issue, as it processes audio differently to the stock audio processing.
same as poweramp, has its own audio processing, also for usb dac

Try going into Developer options and change Bluetooth codec to SBC
(This worked for me)
