I just unrooted my phone back to stock because I'm thinking about taking it Back to Sprint to see if I can get a replacement for it, since my WiMax stopped working.. How will Sprint be able to tell if my phone has been rooted or not? By files on the memory card or something in the phone itself? Also, do I need the insurance plan to get a replacement? Hoping to get some answers from people with experience in taking back their Evo, after losing their RSA keys..
Thanks for your time.
I would say the super user application but I honestly don't know.
from my EVO using XDA app.
The SuperUser whitelist app in the market?
If you have unrooted back to stock they won't be able to tell. They won't look at your sdcard, but if you are worried about it back everything on it up to your PC and then wipe it before going in. About the insurance thing, if you have TEP all repairs or exchanges are free, if not it will cost you $35 unless it is a lost or stolen, water or physical damage or something like that then you will need insurance or pay full retail.
Okay, so without the TEP, it'll cost me $35 to exchange it at a Sprint location?

Correct sir.
Just make sure you turned you S back to S-On and flashed back to a stock RUU. So boot into your hboot and check to top for that S-On. Make sure you clean up your SD card just in case too, would be suspicious if they look and they see an rom zips or rooted app folder lol

The RUU won't turn the hboot back to s-on. You have to flash the unrevoked s-on zip and then run the RUU to fully unroot your phone.
So I've got a dilemma.. Like, I wanna go get a new phone, so I can have 4g back.. But I'm going over what I actually ever used 4g with in the first place.. It's not like downloading or streaming music over 3g is dial-up slow or anything.. And downloading apps from the market doesn't take forever either..
So this is kind of an unofficial poll..
Should I take my phone back and get it replaced by Sprint, and then root it, make sure to back up my WiMax Keys, and run the sweet CM6.1.2 with 4g?
OR
Just root my current phone again and cruise along on 3g?
Like I said, I hardly use my phone for anything other than taking pictures, or listening to music.. And thus far, I haven't noticed a quality decrease using Audiogalaxy over 3g..
So guys, what should I do?

Wrong!
You have 1 year warranty no reason to pay anything.

Then that settles it.. I'm re-rooting my phone tonight, and rocking out with some CM6.1.2.. I might even try some others, like the MIUI.. I have noticed some stellar battery life with the newest stock update, though.. Of course, that could be because my 4g isn't always on anymore.

I think losing your RSA keys itself is a clue you were rooted. If you have a tech who knows what to look for, they'll know. If you're lucky, you'll get a tech who doesn't know what to look for, but my understanding is that if they diagnose it as missing keys, that's a problem that isn't happening to people who aren't rooted.

4G's very nice to have available. Can you live without it? Sure. But you are paying extra for it (despite what Sprint tries to say). Also think about the resale value of the phone, if that's something you care about.
I'm technically not paying for 4g(employee line).. So I'm not worried about that.. My main concern was someone finding out after the fact, and trying to bill me for the full amount of the phone.. Plus, I can always save up for one from Craigslist, or eBay.. Or just wait for the next big, awesome phone to come from Sprint.. I will say this, I like the feel of the Evo Shift, but it's still an inferior phone, even if it does have 4g.

Well, if the reason his 4g isnt working is because he messed up his keys while trying to root or flash, the warranty wont cover that.
What is this root in which you speak of? That's not why I lost 4g.. Not at alllllllll.. *shifty eyes*
for all you 4g haters, try 4g again. i use it constantly. it covers about 1/3rd of my daily car circle through the city. i say get your keys back!
btw, you forgot to back them up didnt u
I definitely got mine backed up, on my phone, computer, external, AND dropbox! LOL!

Flash a different radio.
Just letting you know if you hold your phones like that, most of the phones drop signal to like 1 bar.

Ive flashed over 10 different radios and this still happens. I dont know where else to turn?

I wonder if your phone is defective -- perhaps the antenna is not connected properly ?
Baseband Version
12.28h.60.140fU_26.06.02.27_M
Mod version
CyanogenMod-7.0.2-vision
Yes my phone does experience a drop in signal when I hold it at the bottom but the only way I can lose all the bars is if I hold the phone in the most awkward way possible, completely covering the bottom. 2 out of 4 bars realistically doesn't hurt me unless I happen to walk pass something with shielding, which might cause me to lose all my bars (For example: walking by the microwave in my kitchen while holding the bottom of the phone might cause a dropped call.) How often am I going to be walking by a microwave? lol
If it matters much, I'm in NYC so the only way I can not get service is if I go underground into the subway or something. If you're in a place with a weaker signal, it could be possible that covering the bottom of the phone puts you on the fence in terms of signal strength
As a side note though, when holding the phone in landscape without the keyboard open, my left hand completely knocks out the wifi signal since the wifi antenna is on the top of the phone. It makes me rage sometimes when trying to watch streaming video lol.

agreed.. i get the wifi issue but doesn't bother me.. my phone doesn't drop when i hold it.. anyways. i just tried.. but i am next to a window and have full bars.. regardless of how i hold it. its probably a defective phone honestly..
Whenever I slide the keyboard open red appears on the status bar and blue and ride lines corrupt the scree, it only happens when i slide the keyboard, what should I do? Please help
Factory reset???

try a reflashing/new rom see if its a software problem 1st i would say
Well I'm sort of a noob to android, I had the G1 in the summer but didn't root it then I went to iPhone now to my G2, so I'm rooted so I'm not sure that's a good idea? I'm not sure. But I looked around and they said it could be a probelm with the cable that connects the keyboard and screen, I don't have warranty as I bought this from a guy on craigslist, would they still fix/exchange it if i called it in?
You have a warranty and don't really want to learn the how to of flashing and fixing your device yourself? Then you should probably unroot and send it in
Sent from my SilverBullet 'HTCDesireZ running CM7'
No I don't have warranty, should I just try to unroot and send it in and see what happens?
No warranty=you paying for repairs. Nah, you should try fixing it yourself first. Did you try a factory reset? And if your positive it a cord or ribbon, Have you ever taken apart a phone before?
Sent from my SilverBullet 'HTCDesireZ running CM7'
Well I'm only 16 so I don't have much expierence in that
Okay, what about a factory reset? Sometimes that can solve all sorts of problems
Sent from my SilverBullet 'HTCDesireZ running CM7'
Is that safe even though I'm rooted? Any special steps I have to proceed with?
Yeah, perfectly safe. Just go to settings and then privacy. It's the last option on the list. Be warned tho, it does erase all the info on your phone, so it's like brand new. So back up anything you want to keep (The reset doesn't touch the SD card tho)

I'm rooted, have a custom rom, and overclocked, so with that in mind, your saying just go ahead and back it up, factory reset it then I would have to re root it?

Haha, yeah, you are supposed to tell those kind of things in the op. Anyways. It won't unroot your device, I'm not sure, but I don't think it will change your rom, and overclocking doesn't matter. So I would do it without worrying if I was you

Lol well like I said man I'm new to all of this, but I'm just gonna wait until Monday when I have computer access just incase, ill let you know how it works out, but anyways thanks man
Aight, good luck with it

Only thing i want to throw in is that i think your being TOO cautious. With the procedures your being told to do, there is next to no chance in hell that your gonna mess anything up. Just trust the people helping you that they know what they are doing, cause usually they do. Our phones are not THAT easy to brick.
its not that i dont trust them im just new to all of this, not android phones but rooting them and such so im just making sure. and deliriousDroid im doing it right now so ill let you know what happens when im done!
Aight. Not sure if it will fix the problem, but it's worth a try
Sent from my SilverBullet 'HTCDesireZ running CM7'
damn it didnt fix it :/ so im guessing since i dont have warranty im screwed ?
Unless you know somebody who is good at repairing phones. It will cost you otherwise.

Hi i just brought some sitcker signal boosters. just wondering does anyone use them or know the best place to stick them??? just trying keep my signal up
those are a gimmick, sorry And can't do anything about it because they often say "results vary and are not guaranteed".
They don't work. You might as well stick'em on your fridge.

If you want to fix your signal, clean the metal strips on the battery and microSD/SIM covers. If they still have black look on them, call HTC and say that your covers are broken because you couldn't get them off without breaking and they will send free replacements.
Ahh really good to no about calling htc but mine are fine. just when i go away to my caravan signal is abit weak and sometimes drops still i have them on the way so going give them a try haha
Also is lower the dBm the better the signal right???
When i first got this phone the gps would always take a while to lock on to satellites and even when it did, it wouldnt be very accurate. It hasnt been working at all for months but i really dont care since i dont use the gps. Ive been running Blazer Rom 4.1 and even went back to stock el29 and it still wont work. Ive tried all the gps fix apps and they do nothing.
Even though i dont really use the gps i was wondering if sprint will replace it since its a hardware problem. The screen has a few scratches and a small crack at the top of the screen and i would like to get the white version but i wouldnt mind if they gave me a black one.
Do you guys think they would replace it?
Probably not.

As per my little lady, who works for Sprint - You will call in, they'll do basic trouble shooting. If that's a no fix, they'll send you to a service repair store, they'll try. If they cant fix, you'll get a refurbished replacement. If you don't have insurance, you'll pay 35 in fees.
Look up your closest service repair store on sprint and avoid the call in.
Hope this helps.

+1, It does not seem like a valid reason to replace the phone.
I did. It all depends on how nice the employees are really.
It burns when I Tapatalk...
Depends on how big the crack is. If its bigger than an inch or spiderwebbbed no way but if its just a small crack a good tech should replace it BC I remember when I first got my e4gt and my GPS didn't work for caput

Yeah the crack is smaller than an inch. It's right under the speaker grill but it's like 2 small lines. Not really noticeable. Hopefully they'll replace it

I strongly disagree. If the GPS doesn't work, then the phone is defective. It would most likely be replaced with a refurbished phone though.
Try clearing your NVRAM and reactivating your phone with sprint on stock EL29. If you can't get a lock or even see a single satellite on GPS test, then I'd guess that the GPS antenna is defective.
Wasn't this a general issue with the e4gt? Mine was the same way, however, ever since I started flashing roms it usually picks up faster. On el29 it never would for me.
