All app stores are like this. There will always be a high crap:quality ratio. You think there are 300,000 quality, must-have apps in the Apple app store? I'd say wp7 is doing quite well so far, and you are seeing a pretty large spike in quality and official apps from larger dev's/corporations coming lately.
I guess WP7 still has a lot of high quality apps in comparison to iPhone and Android.
iPhone has of course more apps, but they also have way more crap apps, for example the "lite" versions. This also increased their number of apps because for iOS there are 2 verions (lite and pro) of many apps whereas in WP7 many apps offer a demo and only get counted once. I'm not saying that WP7 has better apps, but the average quality is probably higher.
Android has of course no one regulating the Marketplace at all (or almost). This means all kinds of crazy and senseless apps or wallpapers etc. can be uploaded and ruin the marketplace.
EDIT: BTW now there are over 15,500 apps in the marketplace. If I am not mistaken neither iOS nor Android had such growth rates in the beginning.
Well there are no pro audio apps on wp7 and will not be before mango. The api's dont cut it at the moment. It will become much much better, and the quality can go up when the new api's drop and the apps can start to compare to IOS or outclass them. But we will all need mango first.

But Agree one thing, Microsoft should consider about "cleaning" the Marketplace a little bit.

Can you make some better ones?
15.000 apps:
7.500 tip calculators
4.500 stopwatch
2.950 timers
50 other BS apps
....
0 Google Maps
0 Turn by Turn navigation app
0 Swype or other alternative keyboard
Great
(just kidding... But to me the most important apps, notably turn to turn, are definitely missing)
One thing I am well qualified to comment on and have clearly experienced is the games on each system. I find myself playing WP7 games much more than iOS or Android games. Currently iOS has the best racing games. Real Racing 1 & 2 are so much like Gran Turismo on the Playstation and just complete super high quality. But WP7 has the best all-around games. If it wasn't for Angry Birds on Android, I would hardly be playing any games on it. The best racer for WP7 that I've seen is Need for Speed: Undercover.
MS can do WP7 a favor by continuing to dev more and more XBOX titles to WP7. Most of the games I play on WP7 are in the XBOX Live category. I hate online gaming, but they don't require being online to play. I just play them normally.

There are some really nice and high quality apps on the marketplace.
Of course, there are many ****ty apps but like I said earlier, the average quality and the good app to bad app ratio in Windows Phone Marketplace is higher than in iTunes app store and way way higher than for Android.

Yeah, but we don't have any good IM app, we don't have Kik, WhatsApp, Pingchat, Skype, MSN, GTalk. Yeah yeah, we have "Messenger by Myowa". Wow! A platform made by Microsoft, announced one year ago, that took 3 years to be "ready" to chase iPhone, and no one inside MS thought about doing a crap but oficial client. Just like Facebook. Crap. But oficial. That matters.
Flory do the work. But not the homework. Kik is coming. Skype.. well.. let's talk about this 6 months from now. WhatsApp just after new API.
And before I buy WP7 I asked here if it was worth it. Everyone said "oh, we have few apps, but good apps." "we don't have quantity, but we do have quality".
Am I missing anything?
Because I don't see any really good app here. Every single one that I tried takes forever to load and refresh, and it is laggy. And yes, I'm at NoDo. Wich really give a boost to all apps.
I'll stop here. And I'll not even talk about Push Notifications, because that will make I have a heart attack.
But, indeed, even with all this problems.. I love it. It WILL BE the best mobile OS soon, with Mango. Right now, it's just a baby.
Fim for Facebook chat
Jabbertalk for Jabber/ICQ/MSN/FacebookChat
Messenger by Myowa for MSN
All of them work as they should, including push and tile notifications - I don't know what's supposed to be missing (Except a real ICQ client).
But hey, maybe i'm not using Instant messaging right - i'm just sending and receiving text messages - What else would you expect an im client to do?
I want them to be fast, and reliable. I spent 2 hours testing the hell of my push notifications with Flory. I wasn't receiving nothing when it comes about push. Just when i opened the app.
The first real instant messaging app, IM+, should be coming fairly soon.

I am getting sick of all this complaining. This is a vital time when MS needs support. We need to be more like Apple users in supporting our company. The apathetic nature of MS users makes me sick. Sometimes I feel like I am the only MS user who actively goes out and spreads good word about MS. User of MS products just go along happily using it but never actually spread the word like Apple fans do. That's why Apple is so succesful and MS is not in the mobile sector. The only time they come out of the woodwork is to complain.
See the whole windows home server and drive extender saga. Where were these people when Apple was bashing MS left and right? Nowhere. Now that they remove DE, they are screaming murder saying MS had the best product they've ever owned. Well perhaps you should have spread the word then.
So this thread is so say WE SUPPORT YOU, MS! You have a done a great job. Who else is with me?
Gas up the bus and round up the cheerleaders. We are going cross country!
I love WP7 but I am yet to support them by buying a handset. I suspect that will change soon.

If product good, support good, sales after services good.
The customer's will come, because the they are not stupid.
I own HD7 and I see it doesn't have many thing that made it to be a good phone (just "phone") right now.
MS need to be pull many feature quickly but as we see.. 5 month ago we have nothing, but bugs are still with us.
(ex. I can't use mic when I use headphone, so every time somebody call me in, I must to be pull out the headphones jack before received the call, It's not funny.)
Customer will choose the best thing for them so, M$ must to be more a good boy.
I like M$ but I not sure to support them in the feature again,
because I didn't got the money for free.

Haha, I couldn't help but notice you posted this from a Captivate. I own one as well and I had bought a WP7 device last week to switch back and forth as I please because I want to support MS in the mobile community, but WP7 does nothing for me. The Netflix streaming was about it, but once that hits android then it wont matter. WP7 is smooth and rarely lags, but I feel so restricted when I use it and I have my Captivate sitting next to me. I don't know if you have got into flashing custom roms for the Captivate, but if you haven't flash Andromeda 1.2. Easily competes with the fastest of phones on the market today and everything works perfectly. But now that I'm done with my sales pitch, if MS brings an improvement to WP7 then I will be trying it out as soon as I can, but what me and my brother liked about Windows phones in the past is that they were virtually limitless to the tweaks you could make. Granted not as fast or smooth, no matter what facade is on top, but if you wanted to do something then most likely you could. WP7 just feels crippled, that's just my opinion though.
Sent from my Andromeda Captivate
though WP7 currently lack some features that we are used to using (copy/paste, multi-tasking etc.)im loving my WP7 powered HD7.
another thing that i love (and it makes me excited too) are the upcoming updates. come to think of it, MS will be bringing us C&P in a few weeks. and after a few months itll bring us Multi tasking in which the other platforms took a long time for them to deliver. its just that, MS should pull something extra ordinary that will differentiate their platform against the others. im sure ms is already conceptualizing things that will separate wp7 amongs the rest.
Good work with the camera feature, the Metro UI, social network integration and HUBS!
i love WP7
loving chix & vixens as well...
What about the landscape keyboard? Is there ever going to be a fix to take up the whole screen width? I'm sure going from an iPhone or something with a smaller screen its fine, but I'm use to the beautiful SAMOLED screen on the Captivate having a full width keyboard. In portrait mode its on par with the Captivates portrait keyboard, but I simply can't type on the landscape one. Maybe I should have got the Quantum...

Mod Edit; It is against the rules to try and direct users to another (competitive) site.
I appreciate that your intentions were good though
I've always been the first to support Microsoft but they really do need to start showing their consumers some love.
i have been MS supporter for a long time and with WP7 microsoft has done it, this OS works without softreset, do not have few things right now but i know it will be having all those options soon...
i got my HD7 end oct and i am glad i got it.... i love the cloud, love the UI, love the speed, smoothness, simplcity, integration with facebook.....
i was wondering how it will be like when i lose sync with outlook, but it did not come up after i moved my contacts to my windows live account.
guys, WP7 is a good OS and if you dont like it there are other options, the only thing i dont get it is ppl *****ing about WP7 when they knew what they will be getting and they bought it and now all the *****ing..

another reason i love ms and wp7 (this is too much exciting)
IE9 coming to WP7 (later this year )
To the OP, just want to let you know something.Firstly, you say we have to be like Apple supporter and support M$.I can tell you that most Iphone users are not Apple fanboy.this is due to the product problem.
we are complaining is because the product is not good.IMO, M$ is on the wrong direction now, they have to plan and develop WP7 better,better....still a long way to go.what I see now is WP7 is just like SYMBIAN,full of bugs, but it just equipped with a better presentation.
I'm feeling pretty pity now, let's think about the updates and what we are waiting??mango and NO-DO,the feature these updates bring to us,is just some necessary and basic function and not mind-blowing.
I'm kind of tired of frequent lag and crash on marketplace, excessive noise in picture, slow app loading on my mozart.
what I said here is on a non-M$ fanboy stand point.
I will support MS back, but only when:
- They will deliver their updates,
- They will stop their unacceptable US-centric services, and provide decent services also to European customers. Which means they fix Bing Maps which is a shame,
- They will remove most of their silly WP7 restrictions and limitations,
- They will give all the APIs to the third party developers (GPS, compass, camera, etc.),
- They finally listen to their customers.
At the moment they are not fully commited to the satisfaction of their clients... Sorry.
And God knows how loyal we are....
if you have to ask...
people to support a multi billion dollar company, the company is doing something wrong.
don't blame apple or google or rim for this one. nothing to do with them at all.
I would imagine if ms actually released a full fledged update that brought it up to featureset, this thread wouldn't be needed. also, naming your first update after your competitions is just lame. nodo ? really, that's just sad.

Erm remember when iPhone first came out without MMS, multitasking, copypaste, etc. The Apple supporters were backing Apple by saying that they didn't need multitasking, that copy paste on mobile devices was useless and why use MMS when we have emails.
That's the kind of support I am talking about. MS users on the other hand just complain and complain.

Complete utter BULL****. Fine, I'll give them some of those "Xs" but the App Store thing, along with not having a single X on Android, having it's solution through third party to everything. It's like they just grabbed WP7 and rammed it from behind. All these lies, and XBox integration, like what, going to xbox.com?!

That just looks like someone has listed all of Android's features and compared two platforms to it and ignored the benefits of the other two systems. A terrible piece of advertising and in no way is it objective.
To be honest, feature-wise Android has everything. so it's a good place to start for comparison isn't it?
I think it shows how much WP7 has to do to catch up!
Think, with most of the features of android and the metro UI, WP7 could be king

that example actually works against you since Obama is doing everything Bush did except a lot more (which Android does do everything WP7 does plus more).
It took the same time of idiotic zealot mentality to support Bush's terrible policy of inflating our currency, ruining our economy, and his unconstitutional military operations as it does to support Obama inflating our economy beyond belief, driving our economy down faster than ever, and sending more troops than Bush did to invade foreign nations unconstitutionally. Either way Android (obama in your metaphor) "does" more than Bush (WP7)
If you blindly support either you're a fool, just like blindingly claiming that either Android, iOS, or WP7 are the ne plus ultra as far as mobile operating systems are concerned. The informed and reasonable mind will opine more sanely.
The fact is that Android and iOS have more features and do more than WP7. There is no orchestrated effort by the media or retailers to vilify WP7, this is the result of the OS being brand new. It is growing pains, don't worry about it that will change.

Just because the chart is old doesn't make it right. It's like me going around claiming iPhone doesn't have copy paste or Macs mouse have only one button.
Xbox Live on any other plattform misses the main features. Gamerscore and crossplattform games like Full House Poker (and next week fable coin golf and more to come). So Xbox Live on Android and iPhone is useless for any xbox player.
Of course the biggest point -> Lag in interface not present. This comparision is total crap.

Bump - I'd like this app, or a built in 'send contact' option in the OS.
WhatsAPP -Kik (similar to whatsapp) is coming in the next few weeks supposedly. But would also be nice to see WhatsAPP. I imagine we will start to see more of the 3rd party messengers come Mango, which is when we will see some decent IM clients as well.
Fring - These will likely also come with Mango which gives full camera API support to dev's.
Layer - was shown at MIX11 by Joe Belfiore, and is coming this Fall with Mango's necessary API's (as will pretty much all other augmented reality apps).
Paypal - sure why not.
Word Lens - sure why not
Lose IT - don't use any of these types, but sure why not!
Around ME - Around Me, Urban Spoon ect would be nice additions. There are some pretty decent ones already in the marketplace, but I'd like to see some more.
what would you guys like to see ??? - mostly an official Google Voice app (or one that functions like an official one would.....Mango API's should allow this to happen pretty quickly).
most of the other things I wanted are coming with Mango as described above (augmented reality apps, IM/3rd party messegers, skype/fring ect) so other than just seeing more quality apps, I want MS to add features. I'm eagerly awaiting their announcement of the "Consumer" side of the Mango features.

Lol... Agree.
Also, on the Kik thing...
Kik has been Kicked (pun intended) off of Blackberry, and it doesn't have nearly as many users as WhatsApp has. It requires yet another account creation in addition to downloading the app. WhatsApp goes by phone numbers.
WhatsApp works on Android, iOS, Blackberry, and Symbian.
Sorry, but anyone who does a lot of communication on their smartphones know that Kik is no suitable replacement for WhatsApp.
I don't even consider it an alternative.
What we need is something like Trillian for WP7, not Kik...
The OP also failed to mention Skype and Pandora. (Well I guess it was his list, I was going by the thread title )

On what? I was answering the guys post, and responded to his list. That was it.
What an odd question. What am I doing until Mango? Not IM'ing? Not using Layar? Same thing as everybody else? It just happens that almost everything he listed is coming, and we know when its coming.
Other than apps Mango is going to allow (WhatsApp will probably come as well) I don't think we will be 'missing' many apps. I just want added functionality in the OS.

It seems as though this community thinks you need to be able to "do" something with the phone every day rather than just use it... I guess this comes from the flashing of ROMs and such... You guys are so accustomed to the WM days where we HAD to "do" something every day to make the phone usable... I'm going to agree here and say I'm going to "use" my phone, I'm going to continue texting, taking pictures, emailing, fbing, tweeting, 4sqing...etc

Would still prefer Trillian... At least from my experiences with IM+ in the past... I hope they can prove me wrong this time though.

The only thing we'd like to do is install an app, but unfortunately those apps are impossible to install on our phones becaue they're impossible to implement.
This has nothing to do with Windows Mobile. I came to WP7 from Android, and if you read my posts in the Vibrant forum you'd know that I've never touched my phone in the way you seem to infer.
I have never modded any of my WM or Android devices. It's not my thing.
This OS isn't subpar because people want to mod them. It's subpar because it was designed as a subpar Feature Phone OS with good hardware while they finished the other half over the next year.
And now we'll probably have to sit on it even longer while Microsoft gives Nokia a cookie.
I dunno why you're going on and on about the WM/Android Modding crutch.
The OS just does not cut it compared to Android and iOS even if you're never modded your phone - ever, on any other platform you've used.
You paid $500 for a phone to wait a year for it to become as usable as a mid-ranged Android or Blackberry Curve? I sure as hell didn't, nor should I have been expected to do so...
It's not our fault the OS is in the shape its in, and has failed to impress anyone but a few fanbois here and there. It's Microsoft's fault.
Also, if you glance over my post history you'll see that I am equally vicious towards Android, iOS, and Blackberry as I am towards WP7. Trying to pawn me off as some Anti-Microsoft fanboi in this forum is quite hillarious... I am loyal to no platform, and equally critical of all of them. It only happens that this one is worse than the others.
Many of the criticism here can be found anywhere on the internet, even in formal reviews and unboxings. It's no mystery that this OS is both unfinished and if to be considered an actual smartphone OS (instead of a feature phone), Beta-quality.
And to the person after you, IM+ is inferior to Trillian in almost every possible way.
Also, the HD7 is a worse PHONE than the Vibrant, so even if I were willing to shut up and just deal with the OS' shortcomings, there is still that issue. The radio (or perhaps the radio firmware) is terrible and call quality and reception is not good. The external speakers are even worse than the cell radio.
I'll continue using my Vibrant to do half the **** you said you'll continue doing because it's a superior user experience. Push Notifications and Updates are simply superior on Android and there are things that are impossible to do on WP7 like emailing or MMSing videos.
But like I said, if you use your phone like a feature phone this OS no doubt seems very polished and "innovative."

This goes on about your arrogance and apparent self created worth in this forum. Who says everything I say is directed towards you? Did I say "Hey N8ter...." - Not to mention, the phone is usable enough for me... You're also comparing a mature OS, to one in its infancy... But this is part of the double standard here... Not to mention, the HD7 is a superior device to any Vibrant I've ever touched, sorry that your experience is different.
Phone is usable enough for me, I just wish some of you would quit trying to convince me differently. Getting out of the topic of this post, you guys even go into the topics labeled "I Love My WP7" and try to spew your venom... Which is where it gets rather annoying tbh, this is a WP forum, I don't constantly want to hear the same 4-5 users ***** about it...
You, and a select other few, also seem to hold your opinions as fact, and the second somebody successfully refutes an argument you have, you attack it even harder.. Regardless of how ridiculous your point is... You become upset when somebody enjoys the experience.
Not going to entertain you today.

I see there is a new RDP client that works with Windows RDP. It's by Topperware and is called Remote Desktop, which is the same name as a existing VNC client in the Marketplace. It seems to connect just fine but the connection times out after a minute in the trial version, so I couldn't play around with it much.
I suspect it is using some sort of redirection to a server somewhere. You can't use a internal IP assigned by your router but must use your external internet IP.

It'll be a full on war for sure. The Marketplace will explode overnight as devs can target Win8 and WP8 without too much work on their end. This will nullify the 'app count' argument when comparing platforms. Instead we can focus on the overall experience with using the platform when comparing iOS and Android.
Personally I like the approach Microsoft has been taking with their products lately, it'll be fun to see them integrate the experience deeper and share it across their products.
Great time to be a tech fan!
I agree. This is the first time i've felt proud to support Microsoft since Gates left.
Everything is shaping up nicely.. The one ecosystem idea is brilliant. PC, Phone, Entertainment (next gen xbox), and tablets.

One Eco-System that Microsoft is trying to show people.
Windows PC - Windows Phone - XBOX - Windows Tablet - Zune (possible Microsoft Music now)
i think if they make not more customizations possible for the customers apollo will be in the dark with 1-2% marketshare like wp7. another point is that the features are good but what is the killer argument to use windows apollo? windows is fast, modern and so on but it isnt worlds better im comparison with other handyos.

1) the war has been over for a little while, trenches filled in, grass is growing, birds chirping....
2) there's reason to believe this could happen, I would imagine with current market share assumptions developers will focus completely on the desktop apps.
3) there are a lot of "ifs" here still. Will 8 be another vista ? How hard will m$ have to push to get people out of windows7 ? Will anyone care "there's a phone too!" ?
4) Right now, today, this should be advertised like crazy. Not leaks, not 12 second clips from a presentation, full on, corporate themed, blackberry-attention-grabbing, no-fuzzy-gates-and-seinfeld-bs, advertising. Every day they aren't spending $500,000 on marketing is a waste.
5) its been here for a few years, tell m$, wake them up !

I was so excited by Samsabri's post, but yours was a reality-pill. It is true that Windows 8 should be advertised like crazy.
i think everyone is getting a head of themselves here...
apollo is not going to solve any of the problems with the current wp7 platform's popularity. none of the features listed are really anything the average consumer looks at when buying a new device. wp7's current major downfall, is the developers themselves. the apps are just plain crap. a developer just tosses and app together to a semi-functional state, then puts it on the market. look at the basic apps that work great on ALL platforms except wp7. twitter, facebook, angry birds, spotify, pandora, these are the most popular apps on mobile devices. twitter, doesn't work. facebook, doesn't work. angrybids works, but you don't get seasons, rio, etc. spotify, doesn't work. pandora, non-existent.
the updates with apollo are not going to fix any of these problems. will they make your wp7 experience better? overall, yes. but again, it's not going to provide users with the basic app foundation that users are looking for.
oh, and where in the apollo update is a maps update? great... something else that's really holding wp7 down will not get fixed. we will just need to purchase windows 8, and pay $2+ per app in the marketplace for apps that don't really work that well.
You do realize that we don't know much at all about what Apollo will bring, right?

That is very well said.
It's about the quality of the experience, not things like supporting resolutions.
I mean yes, that's a handicap, but they're still miles behind. The win8 tablet released in October?? Didn't the iPad come out in 2009? I love this platform, but they're so late to the party, it's like they're arriving the next morning when everyone's already long gone.
One day tech people will realize the truth: Tech does not sell Tech.
That is why the iPhone consistently outsells the best selling Android phone in all its highly customizable, multicore, lte, bells and whistles glory. Working well beats bells and whistles anyday.
All WP7 needs is to open more APIs, get more apps, and OEMs push out more phones and they are in the race.
appolo will stacks up really well, right behind ios5 and a mile behind android 4. wp8 might get the market blooming steadily. the bad news is, apollo will be mile behind ios6 and year from the next android.

I was thinking the same way, when the developers from the big company don't really care about the apps for Windows Phone, (even XDA, don't blame me, just look at the Premium Apps, it hasn't been updated forever) .
Just because the marketshare of Windows Phone isn't big, and hey, Developers are people trying to make money too , right? And They sell apps, and of course, they want to sell their best product at the crowd .
Unless Microsoft can turn this around first, and now with Nokia, i hope we can have something better, when people now actually put Windows Phone in their list of choice. (Windows Mobile was completely ignored) .
So no matter what, i am gonna stick with Windows Phone for now.

So Gingerbread is miles ahead of Froyo, and ICS is miles ahead of Gingergread? I bet even most Android people would say no.
iOS 5 I may be inclined to give you as being far ahead of 4.3 because of the camera from lock, notification bar, pseudo-widgets, and it brought Siri. But look how many borrowed ideas that had.
Windows Phone will be miles behind Android in sales, phone offering, specs, and apps.
Windows Phone will be miles behind iOS in sales and apps.
Android will be miles behind iOS in sales per device.
What this tells me is if the Lumia series could land in the US with a big carrier at the right time in its development cycle (Apollo) it will be the second most popular phone after the iPhone. More popular than a Galaxy S phone. Honestly, Android has alot of issues. Apple suits. Oracle suits.

you honestly think consumers care that apple, google, and microsoft are suing each other when they, the consumer, goes to buy a phone ? do sales numbers reflect your belief in proportion to lawsuit wins/losses or some other metric ?
please, before you delusion yourself any further, do this:
conduct a post-sales survey of people walking out of bestbuy (or your favorite retailer) with the following three questions.
1) did you base your purchase on current lawyers' success, or the shiny screen ?
2) would you please name the last three court decisions which re-affirmed you were purchasing the right shiny device today ?
3) who one the superbowl, and which phone did you buy ?
i can guarantee you if you sample 100 random (as random as bestbuy customers walking out of the store on a sunny day are anyway) customers, they will not be able to answer questions number one and two. Number 3 will be a two part answer, so it will reallllllly trip of some folks, and likely take a few minutes. bring your lunch !
while there was some humor involved, hopefully you will see the grounding of the questions in reality and how the majority of people not only do not know the answers, but do not care.
****
also-
you mentioned that the lumia may/could land the second place in sales behind the iphone. if you really believe this, you don't need to conduct the survey above. just whistle louder and the voices will go away.
Android is getting Instagram "soon".

Rumoured to be in the works. Would be out sooner if the api was public.
Fingers crossed.
As someone who has not used Instagram and has no in depth knowledge about I am unable to see why this is so popular.
What is the appeal of this software? Are the filters amazing? Is picture sharing really easy? Instagram social network the place to be?
As a windows phone user I can easily take pictures and apply filters using somethng like pictures lab app, and upload to facebook or twitter.
Would anyone care to explain to me what aspect of Instagram makes it such a hot app?

As it usually is, it's not the filters in the software or how powerful it is, but how big the community surrounding it is.
Instagram has a massive community and therein lies the appeal.
You see similar phenoma very often. Even if you have a superior product, if you don't have the userbase you won't beat the inferior one as long as there's a social aspect.

In that case this app really is a non event for me. Hopefully Microsoft doesn't spend too much money trying to convince these flavor of the week social networks to make WP7 apps.
now that its on android after iOS, one on this platform seems possible and good though I haven't used this app on iphone much.
Though these apps do no good after a few initial usages, but they go a long way in helping people make decisions. People would be more willing to buy Windows Phone if they get these apps on here too (though there are many alternatives available)

Instagram also has tons of filters. Thats one of the main reasons why so many people use it. It has a ton of good and great filters built into the app. It's better than any other similar app, that's why more people use it than any of the competitors. People were buying iPhones just because apps like Instagram aren't available on competing platforms.
Microsoft's 1.6% stake in Facebook didn't force Facebook to create an Official WP7 Facebook or Facebook Messages app. Why would it change for Instagram. Instagram is even harder because like G+ it doesn't have a public API (Facebook and Twitter do).
Not saying they wouldn't cut a deal, just saying that 1.6% stake is not going to be the backbone or reason for such a deal...
Most WP7 devices don't have cameras good enough to do Instagram justice anyways. I'm willing to bet part of the reason they waited so long to go to Android is because the OEMs there only somewhat recently really started putting a big emphasis on camera quality - something Apple has been doing since the 3GS.
The Titan II has a better camera than the Lumia devices (not just in MP, but in output as well), so no NOkia won't be some mystical reason for them to port it over), and since Facebook owns them now it won't be as easy to pay them off to port it.

My only argument is that people download instagram because their friend /friends "liked" it on facebook. I can't recall anyone making a fuss about filters in the past.
Yep I'm using InstaCam and liking photos etc but I'd still like to share my own photos. I don't understand why everyone is so uptight about it, I'd just like WP7 to be up there alongside Android and iOS and for that to happen you need their most in demand apps. I understand we won't all use them, there may be alternatives or they're downright fads or silly BUT the sheep on the street, not XDA users, love popular apps and if they see something they like isn't on WinPho well, that may just rule them out of buying one.
I'm not too fussed about the filter thing but I don't use Flickr, I feel that's a bit pro for me lol, I'm not interested in wading through people's albums on FB or the ****e on Twitter so Instagram kinda looked interesting to me. Follow a few friends or randoms who take cool pictures and share a few yourself, bit of fun - why not

what surprises me is the immediate value assigned (assumed?) an application has. facebook paid a billion for it, no doubt to datamine and resell to whomever is the highest bidder.... your information.
doesn't really matter to me. there have been hosting/sharing servers for a long time.
