I've got a bit of weird problem on HTC Desire.
I've noticed that whenever I'm using my mobile internet data (Vodafone Aus), I can't actually do any sort of web browsing, but I can use the facebook app, update the weather widget, retrieve email from hotmail + Gmail etc, basically everything that needs internet access except use the browser.
I've tried both the default and Dolphin HD with no luck - Google home page will load but that's only because its in the cache - I can't do any new Google searches etc.
I know the phone can access websites because I can browse the net when I connect to my uni's WiFi, or any other WiFi.
Wondering if there's some kind of mobile internet setting I should be changing that I'm not aware that might solve this?
I know I should call Vodafone and ask them to check if there's somehow a problem on my account on their end but figured I might ask on here first to see if anyone else has had anything like this happen before I do so - just so they don't turn around and tell me its the phone.
(when I went in to set up the plan, the lady specifically told me that they took no responsibility for their services working on a "non Vodafone phone")
Oh and I don't think its worthy to note, but just in case:
ever since I switched to the contract from pre-paid I haven't been able to send international text, despite having roaming activated. Since I switched plans when I got the new phone, I can't actually determine if its the contract, the phone, or both that's not letting me send (but I suspect its Vodafone - something else I need to hassle them about)
Any help would be awesome
Sounds like you don't have some settings. Give Vodafone a ring and see if they can send the correct settings to your phone. They won't take responsibility but they can help you like that since your using their service. If that doesn't work, have a look in the APN settings.

Thanks Meaple, I'll have a go, although Vodafone generally redirects you to their website where you input your phone model and it gives you the APN values you need to put in, which I have done.
Having said that, I can't send MMS with my phone despite having their APN values, so I know the MMS part must be wrong somehow
- I didn't think it could be the APN because the internet isn't completely inaccessible? Is it possible for apps to be able to use the net while the browser can't?
Never mind - Solved my problem.
In my attempt to fix my MMS problem way back, I changed settings around and stupidly added the "MMS Port" and "MMS proxy" as the proxy + port for internet, without realising the actual options for those two were further down.
- Deleted those, and went back and re-did the setup for the MMS as per vodafone instructions, setting up a separate "VF PXT" APN
(in my search for solutions I'd found a post somewhere saying you could combine the information for MMS and internet into 1 APN, and that's what I had done)
Cheers for nudging me to re-check APN settings, Meaple

Hi guys, and great forum.
At the outset mods should feel free to push this is the appropriate forum.
I seem to have fallen in love with the xda orbit/P3300. I run 2 websites and am more and more often away from home these days that my trusty nokia N73 just aint cutting it for web access.
So I have looked about at something more mobile web access tailored and bumped into this. My questions to help me:
I'm currently with Vodafone, not due an upgrade til November. I could buy the phone sim free, unlocked. Having searched the forum I see that it should work when the Voda settings (wap, mms) are entered. Is this correct?
I hear that some folk have been caught out with hefty data charges because the phone always uses gprs constantly. Again, is this right?
This probably isn't suitable for this forum, but if data charges could be an issue, would it be better to go with someone like T-mobile that give unlimited access?
Finally, having read the manual, i'm a little confused with the messaging email set up. Are texts sent immediately when you tap send? Are mms saved until you next go "online" with wap? When i want to pick up emails, can i do as i do now, connect remotely via wap to my BT server and pick up on demand, or will it always automatically do that on connecting to wap.
My apologies for the questions, and hope one of you good folk can help me out.
Thanking you in advance
Mike
Hi MikI,
It doesn't matter what device you use, as long you have access to the wap and mms gatewats, so with you vodaphone sim you should be able to.
Some software once installed (weather apps, etc) can be configured to automatically download new updates and thus incur charges without you knowing it. The phone itself has nothing to do with that.
It's really up to you with what data plan suits you, if you constantly use gprs, then you should know that getting a flatrate plan is the best thing to do, again it depends on your usage.
Yes SMS messages are immediately sent when you tap send. For MMS you can configure it to either connect automatically and send your message immediately once you tap send or to wait once you go online and then send it.
Hope that helps, just my 2 cents.
Cheers.
If your main motivation is mobile web, I would look into getting a UMTS phone..GPRS might not do the trick for your needs.
Hello gang, and thanks for your replies - they are really helpful.
Web access is one of my motivations, but the main ones I have is being able to pick up my emails from the ISP (and going on web if they emails say I have to), and the organiser functions.
Web access is really restricted to things like google searches for numbers etc, if i had to do some serious web browsing it would only be to my sites and I would hope few and far in between.
Now the choice between sim free, or a new contract
Thanks all again, and if anyone can suggest anything i may not be considering or missing about this handset I'd be most grateful.
Hi all
I've just flashed to the latest ax3l ROM (as per sig), but am having trouble getting the Orange connection settings to appear correctly, when re-entering them manually.
I'm using the settings for Orange UK as per those posted by Findus, found half way down this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299023&page=5&highlight=orange+MMS+settings
Basically, I can't get the the the three separate Operator Connections to list separately. Either 2 or all of them will always come under the Modems tab after selecting "Manage existing connections" from the only "My Work Connection" listed on the initial page.
As a result I cannot specify the correct settings under the Proxy tab for each individual connection.
What I think I need to see is all 3 connections listed individually on the initial Connections page, is this correct?
I'm guessing these settings are written for WM5, and I'm missing something obvious here?
Any help hugely appreciated
Dom
try this cab
thanks for the quick reply to my long question, and a cab is certainly easier than tapping it all out
interestingly, the cab doesn't enter all the above connections (only the orange GPRS connection and the MMS server settings), but browsing by GPRS and at least sending MMS now both work fine. I'm guessing that it was ripped from the original Orange ROM?
thanks anyway
i'm on my ppc now, trying to upload two more cabs for you to try
all found by googling this site
sorry, i should have made that clearer - as far as I can see, everything I need is now working corrrectly, from the first cab you originally posted - thank you!
The only thing I've not checked properly yet is receiving MMS, and verifying the ones I sent have been received OK, which I'll get the chance to do later. I was only wondering out of interest why the connections didn't look correct as per the original post, and whether the rest of them were necessary, as all seems OK so far.
Thanks for the other two though, I'll keep them on the card in case things aren't working correctly. TBH, I hadn't thought to search for orange settings as cabs, as I'd been searching for the settings themselves, and didn't realise they were available in cabs.
Might be an idea for a sticky somewhere?
i think the last cab is in a sticky somewhere.
and you're right, a lot of the orange setting are minimal, for example, i don't think they have passwords in their settings etc
sorry, been away for last 2 weeks, and decided to not be fussed about fixing things for a change
it appears i now have no messaging at all, although GPRS works fine. i
Have been through the settings with Orange, and apparently all are OK (although i didn't mention flashed rom)... i also removed a username and password in the MMS settings which had appeared after one of the CABs, like you mention.
does anyone have or know of any screenshots with the relevant settings in the connections pages pictured for WM6 and orange?
this is odd, as i wouldn't have thought norma SMS could be affected by these settings - cannot currently send or receive
if it's just the sms settings (have you checked voicemail?)
check the following
open the 'phone program' go to menu\options\services\
tap 'Voice Mail and Text Messages' then tap 'get settings'
the text number should be
+447973100973
(voice mail
+447973100123)
if these settings are not missing/wrong or doesn't sort it out if it is wrong, then I'm sorry but I don't know the answer
thanks again for your help -I've checked all those as well now, and all seem correct too, although I'm unable to auto downwload the settings to re-confirm them [EDIT - phone is reading settings fdrom network correctly now, but messaging still not working] ...
I'll pull some screenshots of my own settings off, as It's probably easier for others to see errors in my settings, rather than me expect others post theirs
if nothing goes after that, then I suppose it's a ROM issue (maybe burnt inrroectly?) and a reflash and re-install is in order
back from the dead.
thought I'd add the only CAB that seeems to have worked for me, for anyone else searching

all is good now
Hello all!
I recieved a brand new HTC Touch Pro 2 today, and was very excited to have finally got it! However, since getting it - 12 hours ago - I have been trying and failing to set up the e-mail side of things. I use both a normal googlemail account, a POP account through outlook, and three accounts that use google aps (mail) as a host. I have followed this to the 't':
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78886
But still no joy on any of the accounts except the bog standard '@[email protected] account. The phone keeps asking for my password, which I know is correct.
Anyone else have the same problems/have any ideas how to resolve this? Before I throw it against the wall! :-(
Hi
I'm having the exact same problem getting my hotmail account to work. I have a vodafone uk branded phone which I bought on eay but I'm using an O2 sim. I've managed to get everything else working but not the email. It's very depressing. It was dead easy on my trusty Xperia.
Thanks for any help...
e-mails not forwarding
Can anyone shed any light on this?
I don't know if this will help, but for your username try putting "username"@gmail.com instead of just your username. That is what I've had to do in the past and it works fine.
My issue at the moment is i have entered all the details correctly but when i try to do a send receive it says "error synchronising" and then popups up a box which says "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tab settings". Which i have no clue about because its taking me into all the TMobile data connection stuff.
I get this no matter what connection i setup. But the strange thing is when i very first did it, it worked. Every time since then has failed though.
Tried calling T-Mobile or HTC? I don't know if they could help you.
Mine is working with IMAP gmail

Two things I found.
1. Go to Settings, All Settings, Connections Tab, Connections Icon, Advanced, Select Networks. Top box should be set to T-Mobile Internet.
2. Press Edit (Just under the top drop-down), Proxy Settings. I found the default ROM (UK) was set to 149.254.201.132 - not sure if this is a hard coded ROM error, or a Network wizard setup error - either way, untick the "This network uses a proxy server...."
If this was ticked, all should be OK now.
If not, then do call T-Mobile Tech Support.
Good luck !
I had the same problem on my TP2, unbranded byon T-Mobile. Unticking the "This network uses a proxy server" box solved the problem. I had the same problem with my old TyTn2 as well.
Remenber, if you hard reset you will probably have to do this again!! Hopefully this will solve your problem.
I had the same problem with the exact same error message on my 1and1 email account. I found that when usines imap 1and1 block port 25 (to prevent spam) so when setting up the outgoing server address I had to specify another port (got that from 1and1's FAQ's where its buried and simply says that sometimes port 25 is blocked and if it is try using port xxx (can't remember which one). Anyway that worked straight away for me. Unfortunatley Winmob's error messages are pretty useless so good luck in isolating why the problem has occurred - took me two days to work it out.
Cheers
Barney
These are most likely stupid questions for you experts, but it is driving me crazy. I am using the stock AT&T rom that came with the phone.
1) What do I use WiFi or AT&T? I also have a wireless modem setup at my office and at home. Can I connect to these? What is "Mobile Web" for?
2) How do I know what browser I am connecting to? I have Opera and Internet Explorer. Most of the time Opera does not every connect. I have even downloaded Opera 10, but I cannot find it.
1. If both are present, use whatever you want. WiFi can sometimes be faster, so if its available you may prefer WiFi when its available. But ATT's internet will work almost everywhere that has a cell phone signal.
2. I think "Mobile Web" is what the browser shortcut on the HTC interface is named on the stock ATT ROM, if I remember correctly (I'm not running stock on mine, its just called "Internet" on mine). Its just a shortcut to the browser. If you use this tab, it automatically opens to Opera.
The icon for Opera 10 should be in root directory of the Start Menu. If not, use the File Explorer (Start>Tool) and browse for "Opera10.lnk" to find where it was installed to.
PAP or CHAP Authentication?
What is this and what should my setting be? It is in the Advanced Network in the Connections Folder. I am trying to figure out why my Microsoft Mail will not come in automatically anymore. I have been playing around with my phone a lot and may have changed something that I cannot figure out what it was.
Another question is the Microsoft Direct Push - should this be on or off?

I have Opera 9, but have not found anything for Opera 10.
Did you actually install Opera 10, or just download it (somewhat common error)? It will download as a .cab file, which you then have to unpack and install by clicking on it.
If it was installed, it would show up in Remove Programs. Go to Start>Settings>System>Remove Programs, and see if Opera 10 is there.

It should be PAP.
Try not to mess around with too many things, if you don't know what they do (such as seeing the tweak on these forums). You can mess things up pretty badly. Or at least keep track of what the default option was before you change it, so you can change it back. Although if all else fails, you can hard reset (Start>Settings>System>Empty Storage). But you will lose all your data and return the phone to its factory settings.
If you want your email automatically pushed from a MS Exchange server (such as work email) when Direct Push should be on. Where do you see the setting for this?

It is here.
Start>Settings>Connections>Wireless Manager
Ah, yes. That one.
I think that will cause the phone to push MS Exchange emails to your phone whenever they arrive, and cause shortened battery life. Better to just schedule ActiveSync to download your emails periodically (unless you are really that dependent on getting your email instantly). In which case, you can turn this option "off". Or if you don't use any MS Exchange services at all, you can also turn it off.

This is what I had to pay extra for due to having to get the e-mails (for work) when they come in if I am not in my office. The company is paying the bill.
I am able to text images to people and they get them with issues. If anybody sends me one it didn't come thru. There is a link that says download and I get a busy cursor and it never downloads. I have tried clearing the cache and clearing the data for the stock messages app. I have tried using Google messages and the same thing happens. Any ideas how to fix this?

Did you check your APN settings and make sure they are right?
Check the APN setting for your carrier, I've had same problem in the past and it was always a problem with the APN setting.
It was working fine until Friday. I will check the apn and see though
It was working fine until Friday and didn't make any apn changes. I just looked and the settings all are what they should be. Sorry for the double pay. My app didn't refresh properly

Are you using a custom DNS entry or some sort of DNS changer? This can and does on occasion break MMS capabilities. I have had this problem and by disabling the custom entry (or app) MMS returns to normal.
Did you do anything or make any changes to or with the phone at all prior to MMS not working?
You could also contact your provider and see if they have any seevice problems or issues. It is possible that there maybe a problem on the providers end.. either provisioning, account setting or something else.
They also may need to refresh the device on the network, sometimes when things like that happened to me this usually solved it.
Two other things you can try and/or check.
If your roaming or not. Depending on the provider and plan you might not be able to send mms while roaming. Either they do not offer data use while roaming, or else a data limit is in use (and you hit that limit).
Try resetting the network settings. On your phone it would be under settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will rest all the network settings back to default. Only draw back to this is any saved bluetooth devices and WIFI access points will be lost, so you will have to enter them in again.
I had an issue with mms once too and no matter what i did it wouldnt correct itself. Even factory reset. I changed the sim card to a new one and it worked. Dont know why but it worked. If you have an extra one try that.
I had the same exact issue! It started around Oct. 11th. I didn't even know that I was missing images from friends...they thought I was ignoring their texts. This problem was driving me nuts. I had been searching everywhere for answers and can't believe you described the same exact problem.
I'm on an Unlocked N10+ & I flashed the ATT firmware months ago and thought this might have something to do with it. I never owned an Unlocked phone before. Turns out that it was my own user error -->
I hadn't changed any of the APN settings. I was using Pulse SMS, tried Google Android Messages then the stock SMS app. No luck. I reset the network settings around 4 times. I thought this was the fix because it seemed to work for awhile but only with the stock messaging app. New images came in at first & I could only retrieve those older missing photos for the current day. The missing images were all listed as Unknown Caller. Later on in the day, I wasn't receiving images again...in any SMS app.
I was going to restore/reset my phone today but before that I started backing items up and checked my backed up SMS messages and the 2 recent ones said Oct. 31st!!!. WTH!?!
I then went into my Date/Time settings, I toggled the switch on and off again for the Automatic Date and Time. Re-selected my Time Zone and made sure that the Date and Time were accurate. They weren't...
I'm sure that this is where I screwed everything up because I had set my date (a couple of times in the past few weeks) ahead 5 days to see if I'd get the latest software/firmware update. I forgot to switch something back to my usual (and accurate) date & time setting which includes setting my time zone.
So far, this process seemed to work. I'm once again getting SMS/MMS images and videos within Pulse SMS.
