The Desire Z was my first ever android phone after coming from iPhones (2G>3G>3GS>DZ) and it's definitely won me over iOS (aside from the appstore, but the android market is exploding). After switching around phones, I want to find one that will satisfy me for a long period of time, and right now it's between the Desire Z or Desire HD.
To the people who have both a Desire Z and a Desire HD/Inspire, which do you prefer/which do you think is the better phone in general? Disregard anything stock, and assume the most you could do with both of them rooted. (Define them on terms of everything: Dev support, development, screen size, screen display, battery, performance, general feel/use, etc).
Off-topic question, but if anyone knows, is it possible to use THD apps on the Desire Z? (ie. Fruit Ninja THD)
If it ain't got a kb it ain't better than the dz! Ill never own another "bar" style device, depends on personal preference but I looooove having a full kb. (Fat fingers)

I have the DZ, brother has the DHD.
Personally, they're both the same phone. Only differences:
DHD: 4.3" screen, last-gen 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, Al unibody chassis, dual LED flash, 8MP camera
DZ: 3.7" screen, current-gen 800MHz Snapdragon CPU, physical keyboard, single LED flash, 5MP camera, dedicated camera button
Of the two, I would get the DZ. The CPU is more efficient, the 3.7" screen isn't too big but isn't too small. Physical keyboard ensures that you have 100% screenspace for whatever you are looking at rather than having the Onscreen keyboard take up 50%+ screen space when typing. Despite having a single LED flash and a 5MP camera, it easily compares with the DHD's dual flash and 8MP stills.
If you have the older firmware, both are very easy to root. Once you have root and custom rom's on them, they're essentially the same phone save for the physical keyboard. That would be the deciding factor in choosing IMO.
Have fun!
Oh the DHD uses last gen snapdragon? Was under the impression that they were both 2nd gen. That pretty much decides it then LOL, thanks. Hows the dev on the DHD compared to DZ?

yep, the DHD uses the last-gen Snapdragon CPU. That's why it's stock clocked at 1GHz while the DZ is clocked at 800MHz and it still keeps up while being power efficient.
I don't hang around the DHD section too much, but my brother seems to be happy with them. But then again, what kind of Dev is not helpful or nice on XDA? haha

Wrong. The CPU on the Desire HD is the same generation CPU as the Vision, using the same 45 nm process (the "older" Snapdragons use 65 nm). And both use the same Adreno 205 GPU. I can't find any benchmarks comparing the 2, but my money would (obviously) be on the DHD being faster. Not sure if its as overclockable as the Vision, though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)
Since the OP is an iPhone user for a few generations, I'd say he probably won't care about the hardware keyboard. And personally, with Swype, I've found myself using the hardware kb less and less. For my next phone I will very possibly go without the hardware kb. And that's coming from a formerly stubborn hardware kb proponent, this being my 3rd smartphone with one. Personally, I find myself typing just as fast (maybe even faster) using Swype, without the hassle of having to open the keyboard and turn the phone sideways. Not to mention the weight and thickness savings you get by ditching the keyboard.
Add in the faster CPU, and larger screen, and I would tend to lean toward the Desire HD, myself. There are a couple other minor considerations, like I read some reviews mentioning the volume rocker on the DHD felt cheaper, and the speaker is supposedly a bit better on the Vision. But these seem like minor quibbles, overall.
It all comes down to personal preference in the end, of course. Try to play around with both, if you can. Its mostly about the form factor. Whichever one feels better, is the one for you.
I can't get my hands on a DHD to play around with, which is why I'm asking fellow XDA members for their opinions. Having a keyboard doesnt bother me, it's nice to have one, but I wouldn't be hindered if I didn't have one. The deciding factors are pretty much which phone will last me longer in the long run. Which would hypothetically be supported longer by devs, which would be better for general use (call quality, performance, etc), and which would physically last longer (I would assume the DHD would last longer, though, since it doesn't have a hinge). I've also read that the battery life on the DHD is horrible, is this true?
Can't speak personally on the DHD. But comments I've read say you can typically get a full day using the "usual" Android battery saving tips (turn down screen brightness, turn off WiFi when not in area of a WiFi network, turn off GPS when not in use, etc.). Charging overnight is pretty much par for the course with any smartphone nowadays, with any moderate use. Of course, it all depends on how you use your phone. A larger screen will mean shorter battery life. But with the right amount of tweaking of the settings, you should be fine.
In theory, a phone with a slide/hinged keyboard would be easier to break. More moving parts means more things that can possibly fail, with failure of the ribbon cable between the screen and keyboard being a somewhat occasional point of failure for slider/hinge type phones. But this is my 3rd HTC phone with a hinge/slider. My Tilt2/Rhodium is 1.5 years old, and my Tilt/Kaiser is 3.5 years old, and they are both in good shape. HTC builds these phones pretty well. Take decent care of it, and it should last a while.

I have a GSM Hero with Android 1.6 and I'm thinking about buying a Desire with 2.1. I don't like flashing roms because there's always little bugs and things so I just prefer the stock ones. The price I'm getting on the Desire is $600 US brand new. The money isn't really an issue but I'm trying to decide if spending it is justifiable or if I'd just be wasting money on something that's basically the same as what I already have. What do you all think?
here look for your self,
The good: Epic customizability; well-designed home screen widgets with live updates; easy-to-use keyboard; convenient Android Market for apps; multitouch capability; Flash support; 3.5-millimeter headphone jack; Facebook integration.
The bad: Sluggish at times; Flash video is dodgy; no easy way to back up and restore; button and menu overkill.
The bottom line: If you can stand the Hero's occasional sluggishness, it's a fantastic smartphone packed with great features. We like its distinctive looks, and its innovative user interface brings Android much closer to being as fun and good-looking as the iPhone OS, while being far more customizable. Occasional lag and Android's rough edges mean it's not quite an iPhone killer, but it's definitely fighting in the same class.
HTC Desire
Previously known as the HTC Bravo, the Desire is essentially the Nexus One with HTC Sense. The sleek smartphone offers all the same specs as the N1, including a 3.7-inch AMOLED multitouch screen, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and Android 2.1, but utilizes HTC's Sense user experience rather than the standard Android skin.
This means you now get access to HTC's widgets, including some new ones like a revamped widget that shows a list view of all your mail instead of just one message. The Agenda widget also now displays your whole agenda on the screen, and like the HTC HD2, you get a weather widget right on the home screen that automatically displays the current conditions based on your location.
There are also some hidden goodies as well. In the browser, you can now do a long-press over some text to bring up a selection bar. This allows you to select a word that you can then look up in the dictionary or in Wikipedia. You can also select a whole paragraph to send to Google Translate to, well, translate. One other notable change is the optical joystick (a One & Co contribution) that replaces the trackball.
That's quite a predicament...
I wouldn't give up on your Hero just yet. It's still very capable and can probably do everything the current crop of devices can.
I would hold out until the next generation of devices. Why? What I'm about to say is known to induce drooling, so be prepared...
Dual-core 1.2 Ghz CPU
How sexy would that be? On a phone!
That being said, I wouldn't mind another Desire owner in the community!

Dual-core 1.2 Ghz CPU Oh i can not wait, hope HTC makes a 4.3 super amoled devices with 1gb ram and 512 nand memory that would be a sweet phone
1. Depends on the price.
2. Hero can now be officially upgraded to 2.1
3. I jumped from a G1 to a Desire. Payed 380 euros for it (unlocked, unbranded). Worth EVERY cent.
* superb screen (large, responsive, high resolution, great colors)
* very (VERY) speedy
* nice looking, great build quality (2 months old, not a single scratch, looks like new, not using any protection)
Bottom line: the Desire is a superb device, probably the best HTC has ever made, but if I had a Hero I would wait for the next one (slide keyboard?!). Problem is we don't know if there would be one this year. Tough decision.

If you're in the US make sure your network supports the Desire's. Some people have complained as they never checked and they get stuck with 2G only!
I was having a original Hero before my Desire and I must say the Desire is 10000 nicer and feels at least 1000 times as fast!
Much clearer screen, bigger and with that easier to handle it.
Only negative is the battery which is as weak as the hero's.
At the end of the day, I would always change the hero against the desire again
NO! Dont buy it!
I had a Hero as well. And I got a desire. And the desire is much much nicer imho.
The better screen in combination with the speed is well worth the upgrade.
If however, you don't need the speed you can always wait for the next flagship Android device from HTC. And start saving money already
But not for a moment did I ever regret getting the desire after my hero.
My Desire is currently in some 'repairs' because of the pinkish screen (I thought let's just send it to HTC and see what happens), but I'm back at my hero now and really miss the desire!
Oh... how I miss the speed and screen. And how do I NOT miss the trackball that works on its own

Hi All,
I'm from Malaysia, here we pretty much dont have contracts, thus we are free to buy our own unlocked mobiles, albeit at retail prices.
Anyway, i've been using the hero for a year now, and am thinking of upgrading. I have narrowed it down to either a Desire, Nexus One or Samsung I9000 Galaxy.
Both the Desire and Galaxy are officially available here, but the Nexus One isn't (i'd have to go for grey imports - thus warranty becomes a problem). Leaving the nexus out, im left with the desire and galaxy, both have almost the same price, but i've been browsing the galaxy forum and it seems there are lags (with lag fixes)? Hardware wise, the galaxy is more powerful (but is it that noticeable?), but what i want is a mobile with very active and broad range of rom development, the desire wins in this case over the galaxy.
Will it be worth it and wise to get a desire now, since the desire HD is going to be released soon? I for one find the HD's screen too big for me. What i want is a phone that i would be able to use for at least a year+, and one that has active rom development (which is why i choose the hero a year back).
I've been looking at the spec sheet and the HD has only certain advantages over the Desire, namely better GPU (adreno 205 vs 200 on the desire), fab process (45nm vs 65nm for the desire) which should translate to lower power consumption but the behemoth of a display on the HD would consume more power, a better camera (8mp vs 5mp - with such small sensors, whats the difference anyways?), and slightly extra ram. Oh, and of course the screen size difference.
That being said, i'd like to know from you desire owners is it worth upgrading to a desire from a hero now? And also, whats the battery life on the stock desire?
Maybe the Desire Z is better for you?
I've recently upgraded from Hero to Desire and i can assure you it definetely worth the money. IMO Hero's hardware is insufficient to support its software, making the phone lagging most of the times. Desire's 1ghz processor + extra RAM makes the phone work fluently - almost as an iphone. Also desire has a much better camera and a much better screen in matters of brightness and resolution. Body design is also better, phone is thinner and construction sturdier. The battery life isn't as good as on the Hero (lasts 3-4 days vs 1-2 days on the Desire).

Maybe i forgot to mention that i am not looking for a phone with physical qwerty keyboard. The reason behind this: It has a slider which has mechanical moving parts and is more prone to damage. I've had too many problems with flips/sliders right from the days of Motorola Startac, my last slider being a nokia n96, which flex cable gave away twice, so i kinda have a phobia towards anything but candybars .
I also want a 'best bang for buck' device, and both the desire/galaxy s are in that category. I could only imagine the retail price of the desire hd and z when they are launched here.

Have you tried any of the roms which undervolts the proc? To be honest, the price of an iphone 4 isnt that too far away, just slightly higher than the desire here, but then again, i just cant explain why, but i cant see myself using an iphone ever. i practically hate it..

I am not suggesting that the iphone is an overall better phone... it's just that motion and scrolling are better as it uses a dedicated GPU. If i was to buy a phone i would again go for the Desire. It also costs almost half the price of the iphone.

As the title says which one? Presently, I have the incredible rooted and enjoying it very much. I upgraded my daughters phone to the droid x. This is her first smartphone and she's always been used to smaller phones. She commented that the x was big for her, so I said that I "might consider" trading if she wanted. But, I just don't know. I value opinions on this site, and rooted my phone with the help of people on this site. In fact, I quit looking at other forums because the help here has always been on target. So, come on and give me your opinions. Thanks
My co-worker has one...Seems very big and clunky to me. The actual buttons on the bottom make it feel outdated and the Moto Blur interface or whatever it's called seems a little slow in some respects. I know a lot of people don't like Sense but its way better than the Moto interface.
I almost picked the Droid X over the Incredible a couple weeks ago. But all I had to do was look at that washed-out screen on my friend's X and that made my choice a lot easier. The Incredible's screen, whether it's the AMOLED or SLCD (mine is SLCD), is simply amazing!

Astute reply - Goos3y.
Yet the elephant in the room not being mentioned is that the X isn't really fully rooted.
As such, there's only so much modding/tweaking that can be done, unlike the Dinc, which is fully unlocked, and flush with mods/tweaks at the most base levels possible.
Good point. I was going to mention that but I got the impression there wasn't going to be much modding done on the phone anyway.

IMO the only reason why people look at the Droid X is because of the huge screen.
Now 3.7 inches is not too small either..it's still above average. It's bigger than the low and mid-range Android phones. It's bigger than an iphone (3.5) and it's a hell of a lot bigger than my old storm (3.25).
The incredible's screen is far superior (especially the AMOLED imo). I'd rather have ridiculously dark blacks and vibrant colors just to sacrifice some time out in the sun which is going to make any phone look like crap anyways, even though it's worse on the incredible. The incredible's SLCD is better than the DX's screen as well. The DX just looks washed out and ugly if you've been using an incredible for a long time.
Despite what people say the RSS is very similar for both, I've done some side-by-side tests, the HTC just has problems reported the bars correctly.
The droid x is UGLY. Extra lips, old fashioned buttons, IMO it's an horrendous phone. The EVO is what a 4.3 inch phone should look like.
Also like others have mentioned the Inc is "hackable". With regards to the DX you can root it and that's about it. Any of the custom ROMs for it (I think there's like one?) are slow and not full replacement obviously.
Out of the box, the incredible is MUCH smoother than the DX's "fake motoblur".
Other than the ability to resize widgets..Sense > motoblur
Hardware specs are almost equal. 512 RAM, 8MP camera, 720p recording. Everyone thinks the OMAP 1 Ghz was going to be faster than the 1 Ghz snapdragon but from the benchmarks I've seen they're about the same or if anything the QSD8650 is faster. Please show me some benchmarks if you want to say that TI's implementation is better than Qualcomm's.
In almost every category the incredible beats the DX. EXCEPT in screen size, which could be either a pro or con considering the DX is, imo a poor implementation of 4.3 inches.
Not going to defend the DX per se, but I will say the physical buttons are actually better. (anyone who is playing a game and swipes too low on the screen only to be bumped out of the game because they hit one of the capacitive buttons will agree) The hdmi output is a nice bonus and the screen size is very nice for movies.
I personally like my amoled screen on the dinc... but that is rather subjective I think. Not everyone likes "real" black. ;-)
Having said all that... my biggest gripe on the DX (and my wife's D2, which is the same UI and proc) is the motoBlur-ish UI. Dispise some of the quirky and illogical changes from stock and loath the buried-menu concept with some settings they have. (completely an m$ trait that should not be on these phones) The occasional lag is (by my observation) from the proc clocking down so low on idle. (I've measured below 300 mhz on many occasions) It takes a split second to ramp up where the dinc on stock kernel (and most custom) does not clock so low and so "feels" faster. I've seen the same lag on dinc kernels that clock that low, I just think sense is not as 'heavy' and so is not as pronounced.
Just food for thought on anyone still considering between these phones. Having been in the bowels of the dinc and both the newer moto phones I think it really comes down to moto's vs. htc's custom android... if you root and flash to stock android then the hardware is the only thing you're worried about, but if not... IMO htc/sense is king for UI.
Hi,
There was a lot of talk that HTC Desire suffers from overheating and random rebooting problems. Even worse, when they get their phone "repaired" after warranty service it still suffers from same problems, people needed to resend theirs Desire few times until its fixed. Well im planning to buy Desire but i wouldnt want those problems, in fact i pay quite a big price. One guy in this forum said that only two first motherboard revisions had that problem, but newer revisions no longer has this problem, altough i know a person who bought HTC Desire in late December, 2010, and well she said that her Desire sometimes gets hot somewhere in the bottom and reboots, but that doesnt happen often so thats not a problem for her. So seriously, what is the problem? If i will buy HTC Desire now is there a chance that i will have same problems? Or i should skip that phone and go straight to Desire HD or Desire S?
Thanks for answers
I'd go for desire s. Love my desire, but lack of space is really starting to annoy me. Had my mobo replaced few months ago, no reboots yet. Desire s is not MUCH better phone, but it looks like all the bad points with original desire have been rectified.

Well i would think the same, but we are still not sure about Desire S. How many problems will it have? Perhaps it will also have showstoppers? In fact i believe that Desire S in no way would have as rich selection of Roms as the original Desire or even Desire HD. Just because i dont think its gonna be popular enough, so no people will use that phone - no contribution they could do. Other than that i really like that phone from what ive seen, its even better than Desire, but its price is a bit too big imo for now, perhaps it will become cheaper after it will be released...
I don't know about the overheating problems. I got my Desire July last year and had no issues with it at all. I don't know about you but I would prob get Desire S, purely because it is newer. I doubt their would be any issues at all but if your still not 100% sure what to do, just wait a couple of months and see if there are any complaints about the Desire S. It probably wouldn't be as popular as the original Desire, but I reckon there will be a fair few devs out there that would do the work.
If you want to by pass all these issues with the Desire I recommend getting the HTC Evo 4G. It never over-heats nor has random reboots. Just for a little more cash it is well worth price.
You know what's crap about 4G? We don't have it in the UK.
Well im in Europe and it doesnt support cdma phones so Evo is no go for me. Today our local shop announced that Desire S will be available at early april with a price of 448 euros. The price isnt that bad, and in fact that after the phone gets in the shop and if you wait for a few weeks the price always drops by 30 euros, so it will be even better. In fact that original Desire has price of 405 euro, so i dont think i should get old one and probably will head straight to Desire S, but ill wait to ensure Desire s has no problems for about a month.

Im not going to go deep into dual core discussion, but you dont know what are you talking about. Current android versions doesnt even support dual cores, even when it will support it dual core cpu will gain zero performance boost in most operations, just because dual core 1ghz doesnt mean 2ghz. And seeing latest nvidia news makes me laugh, the quad core mobile cpus is just an absurd. Even on pc theres actually no programs or even video games which uses more than two cores (except for compiling and video decoding which most of you dont use), so why would we need quad core cpu on phone? The atrix users already have random rebooting issues, while snapdragon's second gen cpu doesnt have any problems at all. And from the hands on it actually feels that atrix, optimus 2x or even galaxy s2 have slight lag when switching through homescreens, but HTC phones are 100% smooth. So judging about phone's performance by looking at the specs is just silly.

Actually i know that current android dont support multi core and i also know that 1gh dual core are not 2ghz..thanks anyway
..But android 2.4 will support multi core procesors..so if u want a phone thinking for a long period, then in my opinion that is a good choice..
"so why would we need quad core cpu on phone?" if u really think this, buy a nokia 6600
u must think in future purpose, this just my opinion...if u like buy a phone every year and have money for that, then do it..i had 3 phones in the last 8 years..every time i choice a phone to have for a long time..
sorry for my english
Android 2.4 is gingerbread for every other device apart from the nexus one and nexus s and a couple more phones. 2.4 does not support gingerbread either.

If all ppl thought like you we would still go on horseback and there won't be any cars, planes and so on
In technical terms it is NEVER relevant if we really "NEED" it, because the important thing to evolve is to think "is it possible to do"!
Definitely quad core cpus is innovation, but its just an absurd because currently even pcs dont really use more than two cores for average user. If quad cores doesnt have anything useful for pcs how could they be useful to smartphone? Sorry but blindly following whats new is just stupid. Everything has boundaries. Why nobody makes pcs with 12 cores or even more now? Because it could be totally useless so pcs now dont get anything new because its already full featured and theres nothing you can add. The same story is with smart phones, why would you need it? Are you planning to compile applications with your phone? As some people say: Talk loud, repeat that few times and people will believe it. Im not going to be victim of adverts. Everyone chooses what they like, i choose HTC just because its reliable, smooth software, not like crappy LG or Samsung which has good hardware but poor software. In fact in day to day operations dual core phones like galaxy s2 or optimus 2x felt even laggier than HTC devices. Just because their software is crap.

Definitely quad core cpus is innovation, but its just an absurd because currently even pcs dont really use more than two cores for average user. between Apple and HTC, I'd say HTC is laggier & I have both.
I have near zero faith in LG & Samsung in software fixes. I'd rather go for Nokia for reliable hardware
HTC Desire is laggy as hell for me when I was using unrooted froyo so best not to judge a phone by it's cover. (Laggy as in really sluggish performance in terms of web browsing/certain gaming lag not to mention hot as -)

You should have seriously checked your apps. All of the reviewers say that HTC Desire is super smooth (at least compared to other android handsets). While definitely its not as smooth as iphone, it gives me user power. Theres only one device which runs ios so ios is optimized for that iphone, while in comparison there are hundreds of android devices and optimizing android for every device is unpractical, so thats why android devices dont work as smooth as iphone. The reason im not choosing Iphone is the limitations and restrictions it has. Im a geek, and i want geekish phone.
Btw are you still in 2003? Forget Nokia's hardware, now its the same as others, i own few Nokias and their build quality isnt better than Samsung. New nokias are unstable and weak like all other manufacturers and thats natural because the more complex phone is the more fragile it is.
Possible Fix for Overheating HTC Desire
Hi!
I have a HTC Desire with the AMOLED-Screen, which is said to be way better than the SLCD. I did a lot of research using Google and various forums, but did not find a real fix for my overheating phone: everytime i did more than just listen to music, my phone rebooted over and over again. It did get hot in the commonly described areas (around the microSDHC and SIM-Card and the little black square), and i had to rip off the battery to make it stop. I was really annoyed since i read that i would get a replacement without the AMOLED-Screen, that is why i decided to do some testing on my own. I found out, that i had less trouble with higher workload when i enhanced cooling by putting it in the fridge for example. (Other things like changing the microSDHC did not solve the problem for me.) When it comes to computers overheating, you clean them and have a look at the thermal grease between the chips and the coolers - and that is what i decided to do to my phone. On the inside of the battery cover, there is some metal-like shield in the lower area. I guess it is there for heat dissipation - but maybe it did not have proper contact. As i did not want to clutter the phone with thermal paste, i ordered a pad on ebay (for about 2€), cut it into smaller pieces and attached it to the parts that are known to become hot (see above). Then i attached my phone to the charger and ran a lot of apps, that would usually make my phone crash (Music Player, Skype, Internet Browsing at the same time). The back of the phone grew hotter and hotter (and was, in the end, a lot hotter than anything i have encountered over the last few month with my crashing phone), but it was stable!
So, if you are annoyed with your overheating HTC Desire: This might be a fix for you:
Buy a thermal pad (as it is used for CPUs, GPUs or Chipsets, mine was about 0,5mm thick) and attach it to the metal parts over SIM and microSDHC as well as the tiny black square and the area to the left of it. Mount the battery cover and enjoy!
Hope i could help
Terminator
I also posted this in another thread, but it might be a bit easier to find that way.
EDIT: Turns out, the "fix" only delays the reboot-loop. It appears a lot more stable, yet it did still annoy me. Yesterday i handed it in for a replacement.
Guys (Gals?),
are you really satisfied? I mean, as in *REALLY* ?
I find the One V great mostly because of its form factor. Not too small, but still usable with a single hand. I call that more luxury than a quad-core 4.7" SUPER-DUPER display!
Also I find the display is pretty pleasing in its quality. Reading an eBook is like on a e-ink display. Completley silent on my eyes.
However, I find, that HTC should have added a bit more to it. I would say, the HTC One S would be it for me, but who wants a Smartphone without an SD card slot? I enjoy the idea of keeping my MP3 collection on a few SD cards and exchanging them as I want between my phone and laptop. The tablet stays at home, so I can serve it from the file-server.
So, to come to topic:
* More RAM!!! 1GB would've been nice!
* More internal storage: 6GB. Makes it simple to have some stuff internally stored. I did not yet try it, but having more SD cards rotating, it would mean, that I need to install those apps onto all SD cards. Not sure if this works, though. So, 6 GB or 8 GB internal.
* more sensors! Would love to use all the apps of SmartTools (measure space, volume, metal detector, etc.)
* CD coming with stock firmware and flash utility for all three OS
* HTCSync for OS X!
* more modern, faster CPU, though, this is my smallest grief
For me this one would've been perfect had it kept the same size as the HTC Legend. As it is now it's only near perfect. Specs are more than good enough for what I need & use. It's got an excellent GPS receiver, the display has an amazing viewing angle and Android runs really smoothly.
1GB RAM, Snapdragon S3 instead of the S2. It's no question that the RAM & CPU are the weakest parts of this phone.
The lack of a compass is bizarre too.
Actually I'm pretty happy with the phone, considering it's price.
If I wanted it improved, I would say...
1GB RAM
1080p video recording.
That's it. I'm fine with the storage- there's an sd card slot anyway.
My only real gripe with the One V is the really outdated processor, I'm fine with the amount of RAM/app storage since I don't install much anyways, I'm mostly a texter/internet browser - even a downclocked S3 dual-core would make this phone that much better, and probably wouldn't affect battery at all, since it would be downclocked, and the 2nd core would shut down during periods of low activity (I see other phones do this with dual/quad-core CPUs)
i wanted a 4inch screen and atleast 750mb ram
512 is less to handle sense

As a virgin Mobile user, I see it like this: the one v is a lower end phone, but certainly not the worst choice for vm. For power users, the evo v is the higher end option.
That being said, I love this phone, and it's a big step up from my Optimus V.

The CPU is downclocked in this phone as is, but I agree, that a snapdragon S3 would have been a better choice, it could have affect the price tag tough, maybe this was the main point.
Should have been dual core processor, SLCD display, Gorilla Glass, and full sense.

The gorilla glass argument is still not solved. Wiki says it isn't, HTC says it is.

Yes. Because Wiki sometimes refers to book.

With the HTC One V, you get what you pay for
I did a lot of research before buying this phone so I'm glad someone made this thread. First off, I'm a virgin mobile USA customer. Thats means PrimoC CDMA phone.
I settled on this phone because it is small. It's exactly what I was looking for in terms of size and price. When the iPhone was announced for VM I was pretty much sold on it. Completely ignored that it was gunna cost me $650. But the day the iPhone was available for purchase, something wonderful happened...they released the One V, without any forewarning or presale announcement. I originally had doubts about the iPhone for my complete satisfaction and love for the Android platform, as well as the price, and my detest for Apple products' rigid user interface and paltry customization abilities. I mean, one button? No thanks. But the size and power of the iPhone had me drooling, now that it was available on a prepaid plan. I also had my eye on the Evo V that VM has available because of its powerful specs (1.2 GHz dual core processor is lightning fast) but turned me off because of its size. This (meaning the One V) is the only android phone I could find with a screen less than 4 inches and a 1 GHz processor on any carrier (except, I think the myTouch which is on TMobile and not that much better, at least not enough to convince me to leave VM). That being said, the One V's size is the real reason its hardware is so limited. Theres a reason the One X and One s are bigger than this phone. The larger processors are physically larger and with other equipment (e.g. sensors, etc.) on top of that it makes it impossible to fit a phone with those specs into the One V's 3.7" display, solid aluminum unibody frame.
I've tried out the Evo V and if an extra $100 isnt a breaking point for u on what phone you'll buy, and you don't mind a larger phone definitely go with that. But if you want a small frame that feels really good to hold with one hand(talking almost exactly the same outline as the iPhone, but lighter), beautiful display (not exactly iPhone's Retina display or Evo's huge 4.3" 540x460, but still sufficiently beautiful), great sound from both the speaker and headphones, good GPS, the One V is a good choice. It is able to handle multi tasking very well with ICS and now thanks to jmz, you can even get jellybean. The development people have already done with this phone should be enough to sell you on it.
In summation, I think people who would complain about the One V should just get an Evo and shut up. If you can't realize and accept that the One V's size is what has limited its hardware then go for a bigger, more expensive phone and get all the hardware you want. If you wanna be able to detect metal with ur phone you prob should be looking at power user type phones (Galaxy, Droid, or Evo maybe) not the HTC One line which was basically created, and marketed to sell for the beats audio, like those HP laptops. The One X and One S have big processors because theyre supposed to be at the mid-high end for the contract phone companies, which means they sell for twice as much as the One V w/o a contract. The One V is meant to be a prepaid, less expensive option and therefore is smaller, meaning therefore it has smaller, and less numerous hardwares.
You know that the one v was announced months before it's release right?
Maybe it wasnt announced to come to VM?

It was announced at the same time as the evo v. Lol
So... nobody really missing more sensors? I mean doing stuff like sensing a water tube or an electrical wire under the wall when drilling a hole, measuring the height you're at when jogging uphill, these are all great things to have. Prices for chips are so extremely low these days, one easily could have an ergonomical phone, that simply replaces a hundred tools.
I want it all in my hands
Well, if that's stuff that you look for in a phone, then buy the phone that fits your needs. Personally, I prefer the lack of excess crap I'd never use.
That answer was just as unfriendly as your avatar and nickname and all but constructive. No need to make other people feel bad, just because your life seems to be at a sad state.
Maybe you are aware of the fact, that it is not easy to get a Smartphone, that does all what one wants. Otherwise you would not have opened this thread.
