Dont need to worry about running out of power anymore! - Xperia Arc Accessories

I bought the same kind of thing for my X10 and loved always having a spare battery on hand. So I got a package for the Arc as well.
I gave the batteries the full charge/discharge cycle and they perform just as good as the original battery Also comes with a USB port and an extra Micro USB cord.

Pictured: Original Battery on left, aftermarket one on right. The external charger plugs directly into the wall and has a usb port and cable(which charges the Arc fine).
Got it from eBay and it was very affordable.
And... yes I watermarked the image so some douche doesn't steal the image to use

It looks nice, so you get two batteries and a charger. nice what was the price if it?

I got it for just $9.98 US + $2.99 for shipping. Cheap IMO, but they have more auctions. It came with a free capacitive pen thing, but I don't care for it.

That is quite cheap. How are you finding the batteries though? Usually cheaper ones usually only have around 80% of their specified rating.
On an unrelated note, last night I actually found out what the word "douche" means. Quite funny

They seem to last just as long, if the capacity is less. It is not noticeable. No worries though... I got a spare!

If that.
There's also the potential problem of them not being manufactured with the same quality control etc, so being more at risk of swelling, bursting, over-heating and generally destroying your phone in some sort of horrible burn-y acid-y way...

Ye, I wouldnt be able to put in a battery like that in my beloved Arc.

I just hate turning off the phone to change the battery.. Imagine the phone can run without a battery for some seconds
larger batteries are better, but you can't find original larger batteries so you have to depend on 3rd party makers...
I'm thinking about Mugen Power batteries now thought they don't have Arc compatible batteries yet... the nice thing about these is they provide larger capacity ( and also bigger size ) but they also make the back cover that can hold the new bigger batteries and they make a lot of them for variety of phones... just take a look at their site !
http://www.mugen-power-batteries.com/

I've looked at Mugen before.
If they release a larger battery for the Arc with a cover that basically fills in the concavity (ie makes the back flat), I will have to give serious consideration to it - if it's a reasonable bump in capacity that is.
If the replacement back were to bulge though, I would rather have shorter battery life and a slinkier phone though...

Well, there are crappy ones and good ones. I have used them (aftermarket) in my X10 without any problems whatsoever, so if you don't trust them then don't buy them. Don't whine and complain about something if you have not used it yourself.
I know what happens if you plug your device by USB all the time, it will break! When it happens to you, you will start a thread to complain about it and I will be here laughing

with all my devices ive purchased a cheap hongchong battery charger with spare chinese battery's. Originally the batteries are as good but after time they dwindle, thats fine though they cost bugger all.
Ive never had issues with swelling, overheating etc but I do not have a habit of overcharging things.
Ive used these style batteries in my diamond,hd2,g1,magic,n1,desire and soon the play.

Yep, 10 bucks is not very much. You can buy batteries alone for even less

If I want a second battery I'll go for original batteries... but I hate changing the battery ( infact I hate turning off the phone then turning it on again, and what I hate more is adding another battery to what I'm already carrying !! )
that's why I prefer larger batteries, sadly SE and most other manufacturers don't offer these, specially SE for the Arc as I know SE response will be ( larger battery will be larger physically and this will require modifying the back cover to be larger and this will destroy the design of Arc !! ).. I'm okay if that battery will just make the back cover flat, I can live with that... but I can't live with carrying another battery and the hassle of changing the battery...

Each to they're own I guess the one minute to change battery and reboot far outweighs having to place the phone on a charger.. I don't carry a spare its just if I'm at work its 4 pm and my battery is low I don't care because one minute after I'm home its 100% again...

Well my experience with 3rd party batteries is they perform well in the beginning but their life time is significant less than originals.
By the way the watermark doesn't stop people from using your picture. Yeah, but such a large watermark takes time to remove. Removing it and reposting my image gives me all the proof I need of malicious intent. That would allow me to sue the violators ass off. I have caught people before and claimed damages from them, copyright law is on my side because I have that watermark on there in the first place

For $10 that's a really good deal, even if they only last a couple of months

[Tut/DIY] USB solar panel charger with internal backup battery

As an electrical DIY noob, I decided to build myself a decent solar charger for my HD2.
Having a renewable energy source for your mobile device is surely useful and cool, yet if you want to buy "ready" solutions, either you need to be ready to spend a lot of money for decent setups, or spend very little to get useless boxes that are not as half good as an additional spare battery, which maybe is cheaper than that.
A solar charger is only as powerful as the solar panel it's built around, and the few-dollars chargers you can buy from China off ebay have very small solar cells that are capable of outputs that range from 20mA to 70mA... what's that good for, if my HD2 drains little more than 100mA while reading manga, about 130mA while listening to MP3 with wired headphones, and little less than 300mA while watching Frasier, and that at the lower backlight settings, too (or with display turned off while listening to music).
A good solar charger should be able to sustain the working device, charge the device's battery, and also charge its own internal backup battery, all at the same time (as long as there's enough light around), so that when sunlight isn't available anymore, both batteries are as full as possible to keep you working.
We are looking for a multihundred mA output for that.
So I bought a 700mA 5V panel and built my own charger, this is what it looks like:

And this is the step-by-step guide to make something that looks the most like it:
How to build a solar panel charger with Li-Ion battery backup and USB output
Enjoy, and give ideas/suggestions if you feel like it!
..small but important point : never ever apply a soldering iron to an lion battery, this can be highly dangerous....use some kind of holder instead.
Yeah I kind of suspected that while doing it, yet I survived to tell the story
I learned not to do that mainly because it's too dam hard to have the surfaces tinned, so if there is the risk of an explosion as well, all the more reasons to avoid it
That is awesome - and you make it look so simple. I must have a go at this. I think a trip to maplin's is called for.
Electronics is not my stuff so here we go with the silly questions:
What's the battery for? Is this so that you can use the HD2 whilst it is charging? Could you just find a solar panel with a bigger current rating (as long as it's not too big)?
I am failing with the PCB - is there anything by default that we could pick up in a Maplin or a Radio Shack etc? Do we need one board or two? How do they connect? How do we hide them.
I'm sure I'll have more questions.
lol quite some enquiries you got there
The battery is to "save" the excess energy that's too much for the phone. The HD2 is not at all likely to drain more than 400mA at any time during use, so all the rest of the available power will be sent to the internal battery, which will save even more energy to give it back during the night. It's sort of a battery pack this way.
If you go on ebay and buy a "protected" 18650 battery, you probably won't need the PCB at all, since you can attach it to the solar panel output directly... anyway, no need to buy the PCB, this is thought as a low budget project, you must have lying somewhere a desktop charger for 3.7V batteries that you don't use, just take the PCB out of it, they are all good.
You're unlikely to find 5V solar panel rating higher than 700mA, I got mine off a chinese seller on ebay. You don't really need it anyway, 700mA is already overpowered for a smartphone.
Need Help with this project
I need help with this project. For the pcb can i use the pcb from a phone charger ? take apart the charger and use what's inside? because they normally give out 5v and charge li-ion batterys. if not can someone recommend something which i can open which will have a decent pcb such as a ipod charger for example.
Also can someone recommend somthing which i can open up which will have a li-on battery 3.7v with 3000mah or more.
Also i dont understand the part which you short the usb wires. how do you do that?
does anyone one have any feedback if they have already made this on how to improve it in anyway?
This is nice, i must build one for my self.
Outstanding, ephestione!
How much did you pay for the stuff you used=?
I just paied for solar panel and battery (maybe around 17USD, cannot remember, prices are higher now ), the rest I scavenged from old stuff
Nice work man, I always like DIY-work

May I add to this that any connections should be rock solid as sparks can cause havoc with electronic equipment.
Lovely job, well done It is over a year old now, are you still using it?
Thank you all for appreciations
This guide has become the new star of my blog, after my 12-year-old guide on how to synch DivX subtitles
Actually, and I can be totally honest, I NEVER used it! I mean, apart from testing it, it's been sitting on my desk for ages. I made it for hiking purposes, but I never hike, so I suppose I actually made it just for the sake of having fun.
In the meantime, the battery died of unrecoverable discharge, since I left it alone for months, and is now dead, so I took it out and have a plain solar panel with diode and USB port
But it's comforting to know that I can use it as a emergency charger, just in case
Excellent!
No need then to work out how much money you have saved annually
You started with a loss and it went downhill from there.
Thanks for your honest reply and good luck on your next project
Ahah, can I still be honest? Even knowing how it ended, if I were to go back in time I would still buy that solar panel and build this project. Hell, knowing how much prices rose since then, I would buy TWO of the same panels
Dude thats actually a pretty nice setup. I have seen those panels on ebay before but most of them are really undersized / underpowered. Cool
Yup, no point in investing your time into the building if you don't have a decent panel, the results won't repay themselves

LOL I meant how is the galaxy note? Unless you ARE talking about it
ahhh, that was an OT question after all
No I wasn't talking about it
Anyway, as anything new, after being so confident with something you've been attached to for a couple of years, it took some adjusting. Not to the size, that was the easiest thing to get used to, now the HD2 looks too small.
I mean the software; being accustomed to CyanogenMod means you're going to feel weird in touchwiz'ed android; and the battery. 2500mAh is double the 1230mAh of the HD2, I'd expect way better than what it achieves, and I have no background services, ever, not counting the 30 minutes of wifi scheduled in the morning to get new emails (I have no data plan).
But I'm all into big displays, so I cannot dislike this toy, overall I am happy to have bought it!

[BATTERY][unboxing/review] Anker 1900Mah

Hey, My first unboxing/review so tell me if I have missed something, The batteries are here For 2 of them, along with a wall charger with a USB port on, for £16 (Used to be £12) And on it's own for £8 here, There will be hopefully alot of pictures and info through out, and currently I don't know how well they perform as I have only had 'em a couple hours, or if that they are actually 1900Mah, I'll take of the whit bit later and find out, however, 2 batteries for £16 with a wall charger and a year warranty, I'm not going to complain
All the pics were taken with my SGSII and I have re-sized them, Hopefully they are not to small but I didn't want them to be huge, Also sory for any blur, I don't have the steadiest hand in the world
First the box, Starting right from the beginning here if anyone cares, Very simplistic, cardboard and says Made in China on the top, nothing too special.

Inside the box, Packed neatly.
What's in the box, the 2 batteries, charger and UK adapter (You'll see why later)
The charging unit, Which has (I think, Never been, there) a USA Plug built in, which...
Flips out to look like this.
The UK plug on it, (It slides right on)
Anddd,, Where the battery goes.
The battery (Both sides) With all the info on, Looks and feels high quality.
With the battery in.
Some of the instruction booklet (If you can read it)
It whilst charging, The light is actually nicer in person and more pink (Also fit's the original battery.. Obviously )
It fully charged/not charging, Blue/Purple light (again looks brighter and nicer in person)
Some comparison photo's between the Stock and Anker battery.
And that's all, I'll post how well it performs asap, But to be fair im going to give it the 3 recharge cycles as stated in the manual, Then compare it to the original.
Thanks for reading
great looking forward to the test results
wondering though how come some anker can put 1900mah in a battery the same sized as samsung and samsung cant do such thing as a default? hmm

I guess it's to save money on Samsung's half, But I'm not too sure either.
Intresting!

I'm curious too. My cheap Chinese battery's say their 1800mAh and is more like 1300-1400mAh which was no surprise at the time because its easy to print whatever on the sticker without proper testing. See here for proper testing http://translate.googleusercontent....h.html&usg=ALkJrhje4iAnKMYySrm1MUK2mZPX9GLr8Q and a few more batteries http://translate.google.com/transla...e/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-2-3500-mah-2430mah.html
The charger is identical to the one I got with my ebay batteries. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270758612241&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123
If you can't tell I'm a little sceptical about the 1900mAh claim but you never know. So I have also clicked subscribe
As soon as you tell me how it works, I'm buying it in the states. This one looks very promising. Is it the same size as the original? Thanks.
same size as the original, however as far as I can tell its ever so slightly thicker and heavier but not noticeable, also it seems promosing : D I've been trying to drain and I'm still at 16 percent, where as my stock would have easily died by now

You think I should cancel my order that I just placed?
i have had this for 2 weeks. Pretty good. Does the job. no overheating issues.
After the first 5 charge cycles the batteries take about 6 hours to charge in the dock, which is fine because trickle charging is good. And having 2 spare batteries, you can leave one on charge and have 1 spare with you.
Battery life increase....nothing spectacular , someone that knows how to test it should comment. I am interested to know the findings
Sorry but that battery didnt work. Already tested and the stock battery is more better. Just let the battery drain to 5% and you will see.
If these are in fact the same as the 1800mAh (1300-1400mAh) then they are actually expensive compared to them The charger is definitely inflated in price for just a different sticker.
so is this brand a good brand??
Damn well thanks for the info guys, 1400mah it is then,
I haven't done any lab tests but its feels the same as stock battery to me on day to day usage.
I bought from the brand because they have excellent reviews on htc sensation, people report 20% extra battery. check amazon reviews

The Mugen Power 1950mah battery is a GO!

I am posting this for my good friend ecooce. His words below.
"So some of you may know I now have an Epic Touch, and I just want to say I will be creating for both soon if all goes well.
I just wanted to show off the new Mugen 1950mah battery (which also fits the original Epic, actually a pertect fit). This thing is everything it says it is and better if you ask me. The numbers dont lie, I use my phone all day. I work 3rd shift which is the absolute worst on ones personal life, I may sleep 3 hours at a time just to try and do things on a normal time, its hard to explain. Anyways, I used the phone all day and taxed it several times with games, a movie, and some youtube. Screen was at about 40% brightness, auto rotate, no auto brightness. The ROM is old and built on Caulkins 1.5. I plan on doing all updates to 2.3.6 and may release soon.

And a side note to the OG Epic owners, I really miss interacting with everyone, we had some fun times, and I dont think any other phone forum will be the same for me ever. We had some real high moments, and people, even SINN I miss, I have to say. Other phones may get leaks, and have inside info, but no one did it like we did. I just wanted to say I miss you guys "
To be honest, how much could an extra 8% of battery do? I can he wrong here but I don't see how that is worth $45 (please feel free to prove me wrong)
If I was helpful, give thanks

I agree, I easily get 4+ hours of screen on time with the stock battery. Hell I used it yesterday including an hour of NHL live and still went to bed with 35% left after 14 hours.
I've had the Mugen battery for over a week now. It adds about an hour to a full charge. It actually weighs a couple grams less than the stock Samsung battery. Yes, it's pricier than some of the batteries on eBay but I've had good luck with Mugen batteries in the past. Shipping speed was okay considering it had to cross a large pond and I had to sign for it at the post office which is pretty secure. Overall I'm a happy customer.
That screenshot isn't all that impressive, honestly... about matches what the others are saying here. Doesn't look remotely worth the money; the E4GT just does too good a job already.

Actually, it IS 8.3333% more. 108.3333% more would mean 208.33333%.
On the other hand, if you said "This battery is 108.33333% of the original battery", that would be correct. "More" is saying you are adding that percentage to the original percentage (100%).
I was looking on amazon and found some extended batteries I might give a try.
One by Samsung that's 2000 mAh

There's another one by Seidio....3200 mAh...This one does require a new back cover because the battery is fat. The back cover comes with the battery. Similar to the bigger extended batteries for the Evo 4G and Evo 3D

I'd never do one of those Seidio giant batteries, personally.
Fundamentally, the ET4G has a slim, lightweight, upscale design - that sort of thing would ruin it entirely. "If you had to", that's one thing... but that would be a hell of a lot of use for a phone that already has good battery life.
I love the idea of a drop-in replacement battery like that Chichitec one though, or even the Mugen one.
The Chichitec one seems like a good deal. The Mugen one... not such a good deal. Part of me wants to say "you get what you pay for", but I've been around the block a few times. There's great deals to be had on these accessories, the OEM's have such obnoxious markups on them that when the Chinese manufacturers sell them direct, the real prices come out.
I suspect the real deal here is that Mugen's prices are simply close to OEM prices. Anyone use those Chichitec batteries? Reviews on Amazon were all positive.
I have anker 1800 that was made for the og epic. works just as good as stock. it's not 2000, but its also not $40 (its 20 for 2)

maybe its just "new phone" usage IE using it a lot. I got an extended battery (3950mah) and WOW what a difference. I can get through a whole day now (usually)
I keep hearing wow amazing battery life and wondering what I am doing wrong gonna try that new low power usage rom soon.
besides battery life the phone is the cat's meow. freaking love it.
This is Ksmullins, posting this for a team member. Just an update on what the battery can do with an Epic Touch.

Im still masterdebating over the Mugen 1950 ... or the 3800 ...

Those Chichitec batteries do look tempting.
I found some chatter at the EVO 3D thread on their Chichitec version that seems positive:

[OFFICIAL THREAD] Anker battery 1900mah

Hello there.
Im new here but i saw that there are a lot of posts about those batteries but there is no main thread to explain\share\review information about this batteries.
so I thought we need this one.
What is ANKER? Anker is a brand of batteries Fantasia Trading LLC company known more as a U.S. laptopmate
They have a website? Yes, [link will be here later]
What is special about the battery? The ANKER batteries reach a volume of 1900MAH Unlike the original Samsung battery [1650MAH], as of this moment is the most powerful battery-sized or enlarged with same size as original.
There is also a battery of 1750, does not interest most of us when the 1900
Okay, and how long a battery that adds me? It adds about 20%, of course it depends on the use
Do I need a new cover? No, the battery is the same size as the original so that it fits your device without the new cover
Is safe to use? Nothing is certain in this life, but so far everyone who has this battery was pleased ...
I heard about the guy that blew a battery ... has a documented case of a guy on XDA generic charger used to charge the battery outside the device, if you use an external charger use only original ANKER
Must use external charger? No, the battery is loaded in the device excellent with the original samsung charger.
OK, so where I buy it? The battery is not available for sale in all countries directly, but you can check\buy it from the manufacturer's EBAY or AMAZON store
What are most recommended initial charging? Recommended to 3 ~ 4 full discharge cycles (0% -100%) before starting to use a normal battery
more Q&A to come
reserved/reserved
I got this battery 2 months now and is really decent (i paid 11euros all included). With medium usage and 100 apps on my phone it's enough for one day. 50 apps and low usage with wifi on all day i get 50% by the time i go to bed.
Is this one really better than the stock battery? and is it works?

Well it having an extra 250mah will give it about 20% extra juice. And yes it does work.
Have a good day.

The reason I asked is because other brands on ebay claims the same but from what I've seen the other says they actually worse than Sam's original one and just fake.
it seems Anker is the only one on ebay which is works good?
Thanks

No this one is actually better. Not 20% but about 15%. It keeps me running for on day with medium to heavy usage.
It is a good battery at a good price. However, I have noticed that sometimes when my battery drops to <15%, the phone will just turn off right away without discharging all the way to 0%. Other than that it's worth the money.
I have had nothing but trouble since I bought mine. Bought froma reputable Ebay dealer.
Random freeze ups, phone would just die.
Tried multiple ROMS/Multiple kernels. Always thought it HAD to be something I was running, but when I went back to factory , my phone was stable again.
It's quite a drawn out story, but long story short, Im curious if I got a dud or if they all have a similar flaw?!?
No problems here. As other users wrote... it's not actually a 20% improvement but it is an improvement. I think that my battery is about 10% better but that's based on my average usage and observations.
Sounds like yours is a dud. I got two (had them shipped back home, then family shipped them to me since ebay seller didn't ship to Korea) and they work very well in my Korean SII, lasts longer than my stock batteries now.
are there any over heating problems with this battery?
Just brought this battery from Amazon for £10.99 will post update when I have got it and used it for awhile. Seems like a good bargain for the extra juice and the fact that it is the same size as original battery seems great
i am using it and i am fu**ing love it indeed

hi there you say everyone is happy that bought the battery -- iam not
mine lasted for 2 minutes before blowing up , iam not the only user that has had this either
if you read the amazon reviews for the sensation anker battery and the sgs2 anker battery other people have had them blow up as well
you say to only charge them in an offical anker charger but 90% of the places that sell them sell them with a cheap chinese charger and you havent shown any pictures of the genuine charger or anything which is a bit useless -- for those wanting to know it is white and has black writting that says ''anker'' the cheap chinese chargers are black and crap
also laptop me or whoever they are didnt give a monkeys about the battery blowing up and when i emailed them they didnt respond -- great customer services that
iam sorry but for £16 you can buy a genuine samsung battery with a bigger mah rating that can als be charged in an offical samsung desktop charger why risk house fires etc with an exploding battery and dodgy chinese charger
i wouldnt recomend the anker battery to my worst enemy let alone a forum full of sgs2 users looking for a bigger battery
a quick google of ''anker exploding battery'' will bring you back quite a few hits of other users and exploding batterys one guy had one explode in his phone

thats my battery after 2 minutes in the charger and here is the thread that i posted in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19695771&postcount=5
also why another thread on anker batterys?? we already have a few in this section already running what makes this an offical one?? is the op laptopme pushing their batterys or something??
I got two of these batteries and one charged off the ebay.. I'm using it for more than 20 days and it is working quite good. would say the battery lasting at least %10 to %20 more than the stock battery and I'm loving it
Thanks

[Official Poll] Mugen extended internal battery

We all know that the battery on Google N5 is not *that* battery, so it would be great if an extended battery for our devices came out.
Mugen Power said that we are likely to get it somehow. They are concerned on a fact: internal battery on N5 means no more warranty. Anyway they want to see how many of us are interested in this, so that they will evaluate the possibility of doing this...

Does it mean, that I'll need to open up my Nexus 5 and exchange the battery? Does anyone have a good link to somewhere on how to change a battery inside Nexus 5?
It will be great
Looking forward to that ...

Main issue would be there are tons of stuff on the back cover - antenna for Wifi, GPS, NFC etc, and the vibrator. A bigger battery that has useful capacity increase will be bigger and will need a new back cover, so it not going to be cheap to replicate all those features unlike the back of a S4 that is all plastic.
Using their S4 battery as an example, the version that is the same physical size give 6% capacity increase - 2750mAh v.s. 2600 mAh. Same increase for an N5 don't seem worthwhile to me unless the old one is dying and I am looking for an replacement.

On youtube search "Nexus 5 complete tear down, Charging port fix, Cracked Screen Repair "
Here, it takes 2 minutes
Wow. Yes. I would absolutely buy this IF:
The kit cost less than $70
Comes with a quality replacement back (read: not a cheap one)
Comes with a quality case (again, not a cheap rubbery one)
Most importantly: Keeps the phone slim!
That last one is crucial. I don't want a fat phone. A 3000mAh battery would be worth it to me and shouldn't feasibly add that much bulk.

Your points are good but... I meant a battery that doesn't need any replacement case/back, just a extended battery of the same size. I would buy it even to gain 300 mAh

I think what you're asking for is probably impossible without losing some type of functionality like NFC (if NFC is integrated into internal batteries like it is external batteries for many phones).
You can't just magically make more room for a bigger battery, and I'm sure the technology the battery in the N5 is based on is standard for consumer phones (probably lion or li-poly).
I'm sure if you could have easily shoved a bigger battery into the Nexus 5's chassis they would have. I imagine the G2 has a bigger battery because of a different internal layout and different chassis.

Honestly I don't really know how theese kind of things work. Aren't manufacturer able to optimize (just a little bit, of course) capacity/space rate?
I think yes, but they keep away from doing this because of marketing and so on...
What ever they come out with it has to be better then the nexus 4 case that they made as well as the one zero lemon made

count me in for one. :good:
If it's possible to get a battery with substantial gains and still allow the stock cover to be used, I'd be very interested.
I'm just skeptical that's possible.

Any idea if they could keep the back cover and add in a 4 side extension between the front and the back to make room for the battery?
Yes Mugen! Please do this
