[Q] Updating rooted evo 4g - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how do i update my rooted 4g. over the last 2-3 months i guess sprint has release so new updates for software i guess i i am jus wondering if i should update and if so how to i update. oh yeah i rooted using unrevoked 3 i beleive.

1. Update you PRL by flashing a sense rom, select update profile from update, profile only
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 You can update your radios, ect, if you wish. You flash them in recovery, wipe cache and dalvik first though.

They are correct, but I don't think there have been any updates in the past 3 months other than PRLs which can be updated from any Sense ROM.

good find i was wondering the same thing

[Q] can i update to froyo if im rooted

i know it'll not be rooted anymore but will it break if i check for updates and update it
if you want to upgrade then yes you will loose root. it should update no matter what unless you are using a different rom or the leaked version of froyo that went out on july 31st. not to sure about the rom thing
i am using a diffrent rom
fresh evo or something
so how do i update?
well if you can update try going to settings > System Updates > Software Update
but i would definitely read around the site a little to see if it will work. It has been a while since i have flashed a custom rom before.

Why not just flash a rooted froyo rom? Unless u really wana go back to stock don't update to ota through system updates via settings. I would just flash one of the many froyo rooted roms on this site if I were you.

Ya either that or modify the update's hboot.img to the engineering hboot..0.76...the flash the update...finally, flash Su-e-unsecured.zip
Most roms (i am pretty sure FRESH doe) block the update using the settings update. If you go to the stock rooted rom you should be able to update or if you "unroot" first you can then go to the ota update and get official 2.2.
I will say flipz just put out his fresh 3.0 froyo based rom it is working great for me with froyo while keeping root.

[Q] If I go to latest rooted Froyo, can I go back.

I know this question has probably already been answered but I didn't see it. I am on Damage 3.2.3. If I go to one of the latest rooted 2.2 builds and update radio and wimax, will I be able to go back to a nandroid back up of my 2.1 setup like I did when I went between CM6 and 2.1?
yes you can. I have done this many times with out problems. just back that nand up
That was with the latest OTA update, correct?

[Q] OTA update on CM6

okay im confused on the state of my mytouch slid
I flashed CR's 2.1 sense ota rom.
thannn i flashed to CM6 rc 1, than the full release version.
Question is, do i still have the latest OTA goodies?
EDIT: and yes i did do a whole wipe of cache and data.
the only part of the OTA you have is the updated phone rom.
The rest does not apply to a CM6 rom.

NEVER do an OTA update if you are rooted. The link he sent you is for one of the MANY gingerbread roms available. Visit the development section to choose and select a gb rom to flash.
If you take the OTA update you will lose root and no exploit has been found.

Do not downloads any OTA's, always only get updates from the forums & new roms. OTA's, especially the new ones either break root or blocked it after being updated. Just download any new gingerbread rom & flash one of those using RA Recovery, new the clockwork recovery doesnt wipe dalvik cache. Download the new radios,WIMAX, etc as well from the forums, Calkulin has them all posted in the forums. U will not miss that old MYN Rom, i ran that last year when i 1st got my phone...
My opinion, but Gingerbread sucks in comparison to Myn's 2.2.
I had a replacement come in with Gingerbread, and I could hang myself for it.
I wouldn't voluntarily put that garbage on my phone if someone paid me to do so.

Unable to install OTA after rooting Froyo?

So, I got my DInc2 in early July.
The next week, Froyo root AND the OTA Gingerbread update were available, so I decided to root with AlphaRevX, install CWM, and play around with some ROMs, thinking I'd wait until Gingerbread OTA was rootable. I decided I liked GingerSense, and stuck with it.
Until now. I just found out that the OTA update is rootable. No problem, I think, I can just pull it down OTA, right? Nope. I got the android with exclamation point screen. Oh, duh, I tried to install it on top of GingerSense!
OK then, I'll put it back to my stock backup, then pull the OTA update.
Nope. I tried temp rooting into the stock backup, and then re-bloat-ware-ing it since I had frozen some of the crapware. NOPE!
I just want a stock Gingerbread install to rip into.
Is there a noticable difference between GingerSense and the OTA? Should I just stick with GingerSense?
TL;DR
I petition the wise overlords of XDA: I'm running an HTC Droid Incredible 2 on Verizon, rooted from stock Froyo. I have CWM installed, with a GingerSense ROM as my primary as well. I can't for the life of me figure out why the OTA update won't stick, no matter what stunts I pull.

Most likely because you're rooted. I think the ota doesn't work. Install RMKs debloated ROM and update your radio.

I was under the impression that there is a stock recovery check, and no OTA will ever install over a custom recovery.

Yes you are correct. The is exactly the issue that is preventing the OTA from running.
There is no difference if you install the gingersense update and also the firmware update, which updates the touch screen and radio, so just do that, if your missing the Verizon crap that's not in gingersense, download it from market and, bam, you have identical setup as ota, just with root and s off...
