[Q] If I go to latest rooted Froyo, can I go back. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this question has probably already been answered but I didn't see it. I am on Damage 3.2.3. If I go to one of the latest rooted 2.2 builds and update radio and wimax, will I be able to go back to a nandroid back up of my 2.1 setup like I did when I went between CM6 and 2.1?

yes you can. I have done this many times with out problems. just back that nand up

That was with the latest OTA update, correct?

Revert back to 1.47.651.1 from 3.26.651.1

I (prematurely) update to the leaked version of the Android 2.2 release. I would like to revert back to 1.47.651.1 so I can install Cyanogen 6 Mod. I am fairly new to working with Android ROMs, but I have tried several things.
1.32.651.1 and .6 RUU's do not work. I get "ERROR [140]: Bootloader Version Error".
1.47.651.1's RUU, refuses to see the phone getting "ERROR [171]: USB Connection Error".
I tried multiple "update.zip" files to no avail. I constantly get "signature verification failed" when I try and revert back to these files (renamed as update.zip):
Supersonic_1.32.651.6_rooted.zip
Supersonic_1.32.651.1_rooted.zip
Evo-Froyo-2.2-Rooted-Stock-Odexed-netarchy-signed.zip
I've also tried PC36IMG.zip and receive a "Main Version Older. Update Failed" error.
Is there any way to revert back to 1.47/1.32.xx or am I stuck on this half-baked version of Android?
quite sure there is no root method for the ota update at the moment.
should have read the post saying to wait for root.
last but not least WRONG SECTION POST THIS IN Q AND A
ROFL 100th one today prob
This belongs in Q&A but...
Did you use the rooted or unrooted OTA update?
If you flashed the rooted version you're screwed until someone roots it.
If you flashed the unrooted version, just reboot into recovery and restore the nandroid I'm certain you made before flashing an updated ROM.
Here's another thread about this problem (also in Development)
Once on 2.2, no root...
If you flashed a rooted version of the latest leak I don't think you should have any problems...
I has Fresh 3.0b2 on my phone (based off of newest OTA, but rooted of course) and I just re-flashed the latest CM6 nightly

Just a heads up, for the sake of confusion. I think you got the rooted and unrooted mixed up....
If you flashed the rooted version, you should be able to restore. If you flashed the UNrooted version, you have to wait for a Root method to be found.
Why flash why are you not doing a nandroid when you flash bell cw ask u and then it restores it just the way it was u know like using ghost on a pc

except that nandroid or not, you flash the UNROOTED OTA you are screwed for now. your nandroid will be there, but it won't be doing much for you if we can't root the new OTA.
Sorry about the wrong section; I was reading under development and I didn't think to switch.
Now just out of plain curiosity, how come the stock RUU will not work? I understand it is a different bootloader version, but doesn't it just install over it?

It doesnt work because HTC is not ****ing retarded. If they allowed it to work, what would be the point of them fixing the exploits that allow root?
The last two OTAs have come with bootloaders that have a concept of a minimum version requirement. It's a method to avoid downgrading. Despite the old OTA being "stock" or "official" or whatever you want to call it, it's a lower version than the minimum your current bootloader requires, meaning it would be a downgrade.
Sorry man, you're gonna have to sit tight while some nice dev bails you out.
Thanks for explaining. I don't mind waiting, I under stood the risks. Only thing is that I didn't quite understand how this part of it worked. Thanks for the explanation.
For science see if this method works:

I'd like to know that as well.
Permission denied when running flash_image through adb.
Does not seem to work on 2.2 FroYo OTA
So if you flashed a rooted rom you can just revert with a NAND backup. Are there any other ways to revert back to a previous version?
Also lets say you go from the currently 2.2 roms back to 1.47, can you then turn around and revert to stock?

If you are rooted, you can do whatever. You can find a zip file of the original rom and just flash it from recovery. I'm not sure if it is possible to downgrade your radios when (I've never tried), but it probably is.

The stock 2.2 rom removes the custom recovery, so you cant use nandroid to revert.

This is why you use the rooted ones posted on XDA.

[Q] can i update to froyo if im rooted

i know it'll not be rooted anymore but will it break if i check for updates and update it
if you want to upgrade then yes you will loose root. it should update no matter what unless you are using a different rom or the leaked version of froyo that went out on july 31st. not to sure about the rom thing
i am using a diffrent rom
fresh evo or something
so how do i update?
well if you can update try going to settings > System Updates > Software Update
but i would definitely read around the site a little to see if it will work. It has been a while since i have flashed a custom rom before.

Why not just flash a rooted froyo rom? Unless u really wana go back to stock don't update to ota through system updates via settings. I would just flash one of the many froyo rooted roms on this site if I were you.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Ya either that or modify the update's hboot.img to the engineering hboot..0.76...the flash the update...finally, flash Su-e-unsecured.zip
Most roms (i am pretty sure FRESH doe) block the update using the settings update. If you go to the stock rooted rom you should be able to update or if you "unroot" first you can then go to the ota update and get official 2.2.
I will say flipz just put out his fresh 3.0 froyo based rom it is working great for me with froyo while keeping root.

fresh 0.5.3 to ota 2.2

hi just wanted to know if i can update to the ota 2.2 from without running to problems?? don't care if im gonna lose root access.
i beleive fresh blocks the OTA so you may have to manually update. if it lets yuo download the ota through the settigns then you should not have any problems.
As a note fresh and many others already have 2.2 roms using the new ota out. if rooted you may want to grab one of those since currently thre is NO WAY to reroot your phone on 2.2

Correct,do not upgrade manually, just flash a 1.47 based rom and then the newest Fresh 3.0.1

NO NOT GO TO THE HTC WEBSITE, just flash any 2.2 based rom
either would be ways of manually updating it. I just ment that you cant get the OTA automatically. So you would want to download either the HTC update (killing root chances) or root and download a rooted stock and flash it giving you the best of both worlds.

Rooting with 2.2.... HELP!!!

So, in that thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743352 there is a rooted OTA Froyo for the EVO, I have two questions about it. 1) do I use the same method as in this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690762
2) can I update from the 3.36.651.3 (leaked build) directly?
Holey F'n Crap....that was literally 4 minutes from when I bumped the NO ROOT ON 2.2 thread. Seriously!!!
You cannot load a ROM unless you are rooted...there is no root for 2.2. No you cannot load a rooted 2.2 ROM over a non rooted version of anything.
Interesting, I was able to load the leaked 2.2 on my stock unrooted EVO.... So is that only possible with the official updates????

Yes.
(....)
From the rooted Froyo link
You might be able to just flash this over the leaked ota, but I advise doing a full wipe before flashing just to be safe.

Does that mean the leaked version that came out a few days before the OTA or a rooted version of the leaked one that came out a few days early???
There are now rooted versions of both. It would mean the rooted version.

[Q] Restore stock Sense 2.2 from Cyanogenmod

I rooted with unrevoked and installed Cyanogenmod 6.0.2. I am having issues with my camera not being found and calls saying they are dropped, but then the person is still on the line. What's the easiest way to return to stock Sense 2.2? I did not do a nandroid backup. Thanks in advance.

Might be an easier way, but section 6 of this guide will return it to stock 2.1 and you're just an OTA away from 2.2.
I never changed the radio image when I rooted and installed cm over stock 2.2. Can I just flash the stock OTA that I downloaded?

Probably. My phone came with stock 2.1, so that's where I focused my research putting me back at. I never looked into the 2.2 OTA image, since I could download it OTA easily and that way I know it hasn't been tampered with.
