Windows Phone Device Manager - Crap - Windows Phone 7 General

I thought all the hype they were spreading about this was that it replaces Chevron and unlocks in a different way.... then when it comes out like all apps from this gimp.... it does nothing of the sort and you still need Chevron unlock to use it.... peice of crap.

Troll much?

First, this was/is not supposed to replace Chevron. Secondly, it's free. Thirdly, if you have complaints, I believe they have a forum?
We get it, you're disappointed. Now, you get the developers, who put a serious effort in this tool and try to respect that.

I dont think that is very respectful to the developer that has put a lot of time and effort into this application.
If you dont like it, then just dont use it, but stop moaning about other people's work which they provide for free to everyone, as it will discourage them from providing great software.
I think the program is really good as it provides a lot of features and im sure a lot of other people feel the same way.

it originally was going to have a lock/unlocker in it, but at MS request he removed it.

Maybe document yourself before posting crap statements.

Thread will be closed soon,I think....
thanks to OP,Forum moderators are busy everyday to clean these crap threads...
stop posting carp and learn to read before post.

Schaps has worked hard on this app which was stated would have the unlock tool removed on his website months ago, maybe if you had read first you could have avoided getting drilled here. As for your statement of all his apps being crap, i would contest that also, touch explorer and regedit have been very useful for the advanced user. Windows phone device manager is awesome if only for the file transfer functions.
By the way i'm no Schaps fan.....i got ripped off with his FPSce app back in the Kaiser days so i wouldn't donate again, but lets face it WPDM rocks.

Have Microsoft been nagging xda-developers.com recently to stop with the cooking? Yet another thing that makes Android look more promising (are you listening, Microsoft?)
But that having been said, you gotta admit the policies here with respect to "warez" are borderline at best anyway. For example, I can't post a cab that would install voice command, but I can post a ROM that has it. I can't post a crack or a keygen for any number of apps, but I can post a ROM containing cracked copies...so well done that the end user doesn't even know he's running cracked software.
A lot of the time, we speak out of both sides of our mouths as a community here. I think some nagging and some C&D letters shouldn't surprise anyone.
omg. beartard is back!
Are they still harassing xda? I noticed this petition is from 1 1/2 years ago. I remember signing this last year, should I sign again? or does it only count once?
BOOOM
I will blow my dash up if they try to stop roms o and welcome back beartard

Well put man, after i read your post i decided to check out the price of some of the stuff on rom and stuff i have borrowed(cough) just for fun and it does cost a pretty penny for this stuff. I almost started feeling bad then i remembered wasting 50.00 on 2 programs that sucked, all better now lol. Either way the dash is becoming a thing of the past with all this fancy stuff coming out and we all have 6.1 anyways so if they took it away would it really matter? I have it downloaded on comp and on disk so im good to go haha

With Symbian going Open Source you would think they would play nice with those loyal to the MS Mobile platform.

WM6.1 ROMs recommmanded in the sticky thread contain unlicensed software !?

I just downloaded and flashed the following rom:
Kavana’s 6.1 ROM
And I found there were many unlicensed software in it. Does xda-developer forum support cracking, pirate warz?
If not so, why you guys accept those roms and even recommand them?
If so, forgive me.
were they full versions or did you have to input the correct serial or whatever it is that you use to register it?
I don't need to input serial number. They're fully functional, but they're cracked versions.

well, the 6.1 itself is not legal, why should the rest of it be! Isnt this like complaining that my Corporate Edition XP Pro came with pirated Office 2007?

I agree with the original poster. Why do people see this thread as a joke or useless? Using wm6.1 on our devices is one thing (wm6.1 is not available commercially for the average consumer to buy, so no loss is being incurred by M$.... anyway its a long discussion which has already been beaten to death on the forums), however pirating other developers out of the income from apps that they actually depend on.... well, it should certainly not be done in ROMs posted on the forum.
Chandy, do you have a list of softwares on these ROMs which are pirated? (I'm using the same ROM as well, but dont know which ones are pirated. I guess Resco Explorer is one.. what else?)
OMG you seriously figured out a way to defend stealing WM6.1 yet not the supporting software? Kudos to you
Personally I never use the software included, I like vanilla roms. But wow

Wake up smell the coffe realize how long ROM developers take to make ROMs, stop sit back and don't complain as you could really spoil the brew....
This isn't to say that i'm not grateful for the ROM developers... Their (your) efforts have made my wizard and excalibur both a joy to use. However if it can be done without using cracked software, why not? I mean, why not pick total command in place of resco explorer?
If the chef has the recipe and the ingredients required are owned by said chef should he not be able to serve his pie according to the recipe? lolz

I have removed the 6.1 ROM. At least the following software are pirated:
1. Resco Explorer and Registry Editor
2. Orneta Calc
3. CeleTask
4. Orneta Notepad
I think xda-developers forum does not support pirated software officially. I read several posts here telling people don't request warez and serial numbers. That is reason for which I asked the question.
Adding pirated software in cooked rom is a very bad idea because I have no way to remove them. We also don't know if they contain virus, backdoors, or something harmful.

First of all, you need to do a bit of reading if you think that any software included by trusted ROM developers is going to contain a virus or harmful content. These ROMs would already have been removed if they contained such material, considering they go through vigorous testing by us end users.
Secondly, if the ROM developer purchased the software in the first place, they have the right to use it so long as the EULA (if included) does not state it cannot be redistributed without permission. Without an EULA stating this(most applications do not come with one) the developer is free to use it as he wishes since he has purchased a license for it.
That being said, live with the ROM, or flash back to your carrier's slow and less useful WM6.
I find it hard to believe that Resco would be stupid enough not to have the owner agree to the EULA. The point is, if someone went to the trouble of going to each of the developer's pages and see if they have you agree to an EULA with the installation, would these softwares be removed from the cooked roms? Frankly, piracy is an issue, and we really shouldn't be so lax with it.

Looking for help to hack WP7; as an alternative to ChevronWP7

I'm looking for people who are experienced phone hackers to start a new community project; as an alternative to ChevronWP7, which no longer works on the 'NoDo' update, and it seems that the ChevronWP7 team was either sold out, or encountered legal trouble. The need for a new hacking team is clearly visible. We need an alternative to ChevronWP7! Anyone with me?

True, but looking at this problem from a business stance; why would Microsoft want to allow homebrew development on their platform, and how do we know that they will honor their word? There hasn't been a single post from the ChevronWP7 team since January, and Microsoft hasn't mentioned a word about it since then either. How can we be sure that Microsoft hasn't used a "legal muscle", and settled the legal matters behind the scenes, while keeping it secret to the public?

as far as group chevron is still working
and I still talk to chris and rafael (less of him) on twitter frequently. Chevron team is not hard to find and generally pretty talkative and helpful. Microsoft seems to understand the power that homebrew does have on development and while we don't know specifically the plans of it, I think by not taking an apple, google, or sony stance, it will only benefit them.
As far as the conspiracy theory, chevron members are still working so don't worry

That's good to know
chevron has been compromised
sure microsoft plays nice, the best they can do is accept that such things as piracy and homebrew exist. and thats what they did.
i mean cmon, they gave them guys tshirts.
did they offer them jobs? why are these guys not working for the dev team already if they have not done something big and special.
as far as i know the chevron unlock was a rather simple hack.
they used the official developer unlock application
wiresharked the data which is send to and from ms when u unlock the phone.
they noticed that the unlock is done by some simple registry entry
you then spoof the ms dev server and send the reg strings to your phone.
and bang, phone was unlocked...
now i dont know how they got the certificate which is needed.
maybe we need a new one.
did anyone actually try to install the old certificate on the nodo ?
i just wonder, will the official developer unlock for $99 allow me to side-load apps? i really want them LG Apps back!
but hey, do you really think microsoft will allow homebrew or better said, side-loading?
you homebrew already with the sdk if you registered
and side-loading? will be called piracy sooner or later
Unreliable
With all due respect, and they did break new ground, this application did not have the bugs worked out. Just read through the hundreds of posts on their site and you will find that half the posters had communications issues and could not unlock, and the devs do not appear to have a handle on the issues nor were they responsive to those issues. This app needs lots of work before it can be considered usable for the vast majority of people who would want to use it. Rework it completely would be my suggestion.
being realistic even users were having issues legitimately registering their devices with windows phone developer...even the sprint arrive has that same issue...
All you need to do is to find a new way to edit the registry keys. LG phones can do this natively. WP7 unlocks are by far the easiest of any device OS.

So.. Who is all excited for Chevron labs?

For those that find it too annoying to go back to 7004 and use chevron unlock all the way to mango.. Who's excited that Chevron labs opens in a few weeks? 9 bucks gets you infinite unlocks for ONE phone, and keeps your warranty intact.
As an avid homebrew lover, and windows phone fan. I'm pretty hyped to get to unlock my phone for cheap and not have to pay 100 to get it done.
Even interop will work? Registry editor?
no interop
kinda pointless for certain devs imo, but i'm not a dev, so i won't know
Ithink you should not worry about interop unlock, it will come, I am excited about chevronwp7's next release.

Yeah I'm not a dev either, but I do love the homebrew scene.
We've waited a long time for this. I'm interested in what this can do without forking over $99 on an annual basis. The only drawback that I can see using someone elses homebrew is the 'user beware' clauses, some apps may even have adverse effects. Looking forward to testing some simple apps of my own on the device.
It won't let you use a lot of the current homebrew apps, but it should make things like emulators feasible.
Questions
Ok guys, I have an HTC HD7 and it's now half bricked ( When I go to bootloader, I only have one line and I can't flash the phone anymore, but mango still working without issue).
I would like to know if it will be possible with Chevron Labs to unlock the phone even if it's half bricked or fix it so that I can flash the phone or deploy xap file?
Thanks in advance....

Chevron: An official way to install apps that are not available in the Marketplace (homebrew apps) and follow the same development rules with all the other apps inside the Marketplace.
It is mostly designed for amateur developers and enthusiasts to test their apps, so, it's not a big deal for the rest of us.
You seemed to miss the point of it.
It's not about "unlocking" a phone, it's about providing access to developers (like myself) to the phone without having to rely on the emulator.
It also means applications that we develop, can be transported to the phone and used at our leisure.
The Homebrew Scene is a different thing all together, less to do with actual development and more to do with hacking.
And finally, complaining that you have to pay for something is pretty childish. How do you think you are able to write on this forum, people have to pay for stuff, there are bills etc, I know as a lone developer this can be hard work and I would like to think that I can make some money for my efforts (But then you probably think all applications on the Marketplace should be entirely free?)

No worries dude, wasn't having a go at you, just wanted to clarify that point.
I also love and support the homebrew scene because there are no limits and the hackers are always finding new ways around things and importantly, "unlocking" ways to do things.
Excited??
How can I be excited about something that does not work:
Cannot buy tokens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very long waiting time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
very disappointing

Dont you think Chevron was a Big Failure?

Well , I'm sorry to say this but I seriously feel that Chevron was/is a utter failure on the face of WP7 community.
As a WinPhone7 User I expected Chevron to
1. Unlock to install as many apps from Marketplace.
2. Unlock /Activate my Phone to enable it to use with Marketplace.
But at the end it turned out that,
He released it as a Subscription tool with payment, (Although I agree that the infrastructure to unlocking costed the developer). But selling up you service to Microsoft in turn spoiled the little meaning .
Atleast not making the process or idea behind the hack open source after going broke with the earlier idea really hampers or insults the xda team.
Learn from iOS hackers who released Cydia,Cinject,Redsnow,Absynth. you can find it opensourced and its legal.

What are you talking about? You can install any Marketplace app but of course you should pay for the apps first!
Chevron was designed for developers, who are not students and can't afford $99 annual subscription (but definitely not for regular users who want to pirate and sideload apps).
P.S. BTW, it's completely wrong forum, you should "cry" in General, not in "Development and Hacking"
You are completely lost man. LOL
What the f** are you talking about?
Moved to General...
Chevron unlocking was intended for developers and not hacking or pirating software. The only reason Microsoft agreed to it was to try and get people that were on the fence or located in countries that the marketplace didn't support to start developing for WP. In that regard, it was a failure and shut down because people used the service for something it was never intended for.

Spot on.
If you were using Chevron simply so you could pirate apps, you're doing it wrong. As an RD mentioned above, what it was designed for and what it ended up being used for (in some cases) are two different things.
